The story about the name coming from the unveiling is often repeated, but actually according to Gandini (in the article "Not Just Bulls: the Creator Tells Us the Story Behind the Name Countach") they had a profiler on the team who made the locks and did other little jobs and who used that swear often; Gandini joked that they should use that as the name, other people liked it, and the joke name became the real name.

The drivetrain packaging between the Miura and Countach was a little more nuanced. Because the v12 in the Miura was transverse, the gearbox was mounted inside the engine crankcase for packaging. This raises the engine higher in the chassis than it normally would’ve be, which is bad for Center of Gravity. By putting the gearbox in front of the engine in the Countach, both the engine and gearbox can be lower in the chassis which lowers the CG which is good for handling and safety,

Ferruccio Lamborghini sold the car company because he was in debt with the tractor company, wich were split (and the second one was not an LLC) - it wasn't in debt with the tractor company also for poor management, but because they had a massive delivery in Bolivia that didn't happen because of a sudden insurrection. The 25th Anniversary Countach in Silver was on my wall as a kid. I first discovered the car in Need For Speed 3: Hot Pursuit. There was a slideshow that had "Monster" by Rom Di Prisco playing in the background. I was absolutely captivated. It's still my #1 dream car, but prices are soaring. A black LP 5000 QV just sold for over half a million near me. I'd like to think I could afford one someday if I play my cards right, but at this point, the closest a lot of kids from my generation will get were those fantastic hero shot posters we all drooled over. It's the car that kickstarted my love for everything automotive.
Great video, man. But there's one thing: minute 7:20, Lamborghini was an excellent business man and his car company was doin' great. In the late 60s, the Bolivian government ordered 5000 Lamborghini tractors and the company went into debt to produce them quickly. Meanwhile, there was a coup d'état in Bolivia and the tractors remained unsold. In order not to go bankrupt, Ferruccio was forced to sell the car branch of his company.
I need the editor or whoever to know that the flying car graphic with the shark mouth or whatever was The greatest thing! The float and timing was just great and so cool in the background while James preached the good word of the greatest car he's ever seen

More frequent up to speed please 🤗🤗😍😍
every Thursday!
I recently watched a documentary about this machine, specifically the one used in the Cannonball Run movie. It was awesome!
That documentary is nuts amazing

Walter Wolf was an absolute dude. I once watched him eat a whole apple - stalk, pips, core and everything...
he wasn’t lying about the aerodynamics. the countach drag coef. is 0.42
the astrovan is 0.38
Ferruccio Lamborghini sold the car company because he was in debt with the tractor company, wich were split (and the second one was not an LLC) - it wasn't in debt with the tractor company also for poor management, but because they had a massive delivery in Bolivia that didn't happen because of a sudden insurrection. He was described as temperamental, but he was not a bad businessman.
The Countach is one of my all time fav cars, just looks so clean.

Absolutely magnificent machine, an icon of great engineering
The open scenes to The Cannonball Run.... OH THE SONG OF THAT SCREAMING COUNTACH STILL GIVES ME GOOSEBUMPS... no really I just watched the first 4 minutes of the movie again! Great episode!
Yes I bought a countach poster and choose your own adventure books at the school book fair in the 1980s. I also bought my dad gifts at the school Santas workshop that he never used
Just taking a minute to say I really appreciate the beautiful and hilarious editing bits. 😁
Oh god its such a fine tractor :O
Rocky didn't drive a Testarossa in that scene, he drove a Lamborghini Jalpa, basically the entry-level Lambo of the time.
Entry level Lambo. 😂
Reminds me of a scene in a movie I can't remember;
An everyday girl gets picked up in a Bentley for something or other and is wowed by it.
She asks the driver if it's a Rolls Royce.
He tells her it's a Bentley and she says, _"Oh. That must be a discount Rolls."_
The driver just smirks. 😂
The Countach got me into cars. Although my taste in cars changed to classic American, I still thank the Countach for introducing me into the auto world.
That wasn't a Testarossa in Rocky IV. That was a Lamborghini Jalpa.
The Countach lead the way for the hyper cars we have today
I fell in love with the car ever since I saw it in Twisted Metal and NFS3: Hot Pursuit on the PS1 and incidently NFS3 also made me love the Diablo and the Lamboghini brand.
Before I’ve even started to watch this video, you guys already had my like. It was fun to see that the was the first sentence of the episode 😆 Amazing content, as usual!
Its sleek, unique and 80's vibe wedge shape design would never been forgotten as a big leap in automotive history
James mt brother from another mother I've been saying this for years as a 30 year tow truck vet and a absolutely certified professional car psycho, this is the story that Lamborghini should lean on with there current status in the supercar world. Preach my brother!! We need to talk I've got ideas!! And the ability to produce crazy content!! Ijs!!
*Countach looks like a Fricking SPACESHIP 🚀!!!*

That’s so brave of her.
James, 🤟 this was without a doubt one of your most epic episodes. Period. Pure genius, both for its info and comedic value. Bravo man bravo 🎉
I will proudly admit that I was one of those young boys that picked up a Countach poster at the schoolastic book fair 💪🏻, I also had a scale model I made and painted yellow that I still have. Best looking car ever IMO
But did you get a goosebumps book too?
@@cujotwentysix7519 hells yes I did
This car is so awesome you have a full up to speed for it
Edit: why did you forget the new countach
The Countach is the best and coolest car ever made. No question ask. No one built a that looked so awesome ever again. 🤘
There was a Countach, as well as the lesser known Jalpa in Rocky IV.

Can we get an up to speed on Gulf? I wanna learn more about them they seem pretty iconic
Love the show, love that Lamborghine-Mashine! Thanks a lot! How about an Up to Speed on the Opel Manta/Calibra?
doubt it since it never sold in the US and that's Donut Media's prime market so..
That being said, I personally LOVE them, especially the Calibra!
I guess because of my age my first love was the Diablo....DO ONE ON THE DIABLO!!!!👍
I learned something new, didnt know thats what Countach meant. absolute legend.
Day 286 of asking Donut to bring old B2B back
I rly miss those episodes ngl cuz it was my favorite series on donut
Bring ‘em back
how's that working out for you?
It is wrong to say that Ferrari 365 bb and Testarossa's had a boxer engine, it has a v engine that was flat and so it has different firing order and crankshaft than a boxer equivalent would have had.
How can a V engine be flat?
@@crybaby1363 v angle is increased to 180 degrees, but for more info just look it up
@@sandrios lol
you should go learn some geometry
flat 12 is different than a V12
@@RoverWaters yes but it is not boxer engine, it works on same principle as V engine, flat v has the same type of crankshaft as V, and boxer has different

That was a Lamborghini Jalpa in Rocky IV (with Robert Tepper's "No Easy Way Out" in the background), not a Testarossa.
PLEASE DO AN UP TO SPEED FOR THE NEW COUNTACH! I honestly thought you would’ve mentioned it in this video
rocky had a jalpa, not a countach

❤I love this video at large but starting the YEAR with a GREAT INVESTMENT should be the wisest thing every individual should do. I will advice everybody who is into crypto to stick with ETH and BTC as much as you can guys.If everyone sells when it starts to fall, which at one point it will, the dream maybe lost because of it being too volatile for companies to get behind.

The opening minutes of Cannonball Run, with the V12 screaming under Ray Steven's crooning, is my go to feelgood RUclips Clip . . . Probably watched it 100x.
Never once have I been interested in cars, then I saw the lambo countach at a car meetup with my grandad and its still the only car I've ever loved to this day
I was born in the middle 70’s grown up and the 80’s and YES that scene in cannonball run did changed the face of of earth forever , if you were a kid in the 80’s you would’ve seen the Lamborghini poster in almost every 80’s kids room ! Absolutely 80’s icon
One of my favorite cars ever because of how crazy it looks!
Pretty much the best episode of all time
I need the editor or whoever to know that the flying car graphic with the shark mouth or whatever was The greatest thing! The float and timing was just great and so cool in the background while James preached the good word of the greatest car he's ever seen
This guy is very good at his job. Respect.
I'm surprised that you didn't mention the fact it has pop up headlight
