I'm one of those 50%. I started on a Ninja 300. Excellent bike, incredibly easy to ride and handle, and so light it was awesome in canyons... until the highway. Any highway above 70 mph was terrifying on that thing since it was blown around so easily and had a budget suspension. I stepped up to a ZX-6R briefly, and then to a Ninja 1000 and I'm done. The Ninja 1000 is an amazing all-around street bike and does everything well. I am not a brand loyalist in most things, but I'm a Ninja guy for life.
I think it depends on weight, because when a had a Ninja 300 (it was my first bike as well), mine topped out at 114 miles per hour on the highway. I bought the KRT edition in 2015 and I was about 155 pounds then. It could get up to speed, BUT it was super slow to accelerate.
I started on a XR100 as a kid. My first road bike was a Ninja500r. Twin cylinder 499cc. It wasn't a rocket but I learned where my limits were and how to go fast with control. I now ride a 2007 ZZR600 which is a 2002 ZX6R Ninja. Kawasaki's and Japanese engineering will always be respected and special to me.
Started on a KLR-250 and found my way onto a Ninja Z1000. Got used to goosing some tight corners into full throttling corners and giving 'er a heavy right hand. I won't go back to at least a liter bike with some work done to it until I beef it.

Really would've liked to see them talk about the gentleman's agreement here, as it's basically the reason the Japanese manufacturers stopped chasing the title of "fastest"
In Germany the gentlemens agreement ( from the late 70s to the 90s) was "Not more than 74kw". Therefore all Motorbikes where sold limited only (and for a few bugs you could buy the de-limiter-package afterwards). Another german agreement (strict until end of the 90s, currently softend - the buyer has to sign for unlimited version) - All faster cars are limited to a max speed of 250km/h (155mph) .
I rented ALL sorts of super bikes in Thailand, but fell in love with the Honda Super Blackbird. SO much more comfortable, stable...etc than the liter bikes. Soooo, a few years later I bought and a 2001 fuel injected Honda Super Blackbird. It came black OEM but had bee converted to Red using crappy Asian fiberglass body kit. The tank had a very good re paint however in the correct code. With (MANY!) bolt ons and a tune and other mods, the bike was ridiculously fast. It would pull forever and stay rock stable on the $1,100 custom Penske rear shock I commissioned. Five way adjustable. Once I had it tuned, that bike would handle any kind of pavement with ease, compliance, stability and comfort. The single BEST mod I did for that bike was that very expensive Penske rear shock. Night and day. The stock shock wallowed like a water buffalo. Didnt even need to touch the forks which is what most people did. The stock rear shock was utter crap. Penske I designed was able to raise the back by 6mm, making the steering much more precise while still staying very stable. I raised the handle bar geometry a bit. New wave type front rotors, EBC aggressive brake pads. A lot of things came out of UK and Germany where the Blackbird was much more popular than in the USA. I changed one tooth on the front sprocket and gained considerable acceleration while reducing my top speed down to 'only" 170mph. It did not affect cruising comfort at all like when you change the ratio on a car. New custom seat from England, and a high tech windshield (had an adjustable airfoil that worked so well for 6'4" me)from Germany made the bike a true international ride.. Best bike I ever owned....after 3K in mods and 100+ hours of work. I added HID lights, and under tray and even modified the clutch (per the forums) to be completely linear and NOT grabby. I installed an upgraded, higher psi fuel regulator. Actually an OEM Honda part from a 2003 Blackbird. Everything I did was quite an improvement. All new VERY EXPENSIVE ABS OEM body kit from Honda. Worth every penny. Red...flawless red. Best paint job I ever saw from an OEM part. I never damaged it, thank God. New headers, pipes and a Dyna box with a custom tune. I maybe added 12rwhp. I could have spent less and had a Hayabusa, but the Honda Super Blackbird XXX was a taller bike and fit my 6'4" body better. And it was SEXY looking, especially with pipes and a custom under tray in the rear. Sold it for pennies on the dollar before I killed myself. My right knee just was too painful riding ANY sport bike. I now can only ride a bile with forward controls. Oh well. I will remember my Super Blackbird with great fondness.
Fyi, Kawasaki even offered the ninja in 150cc version, but majorly in southeast asian market equipped with 150cc 2 stroke engine made to a Super KIPS (Kawasaki Integrated Power Valve System) which later development from KIS (Kawasaki Integrated System).
I stopped at an 06 636 and haven't wanted to upgrade. Love this bike

@@migueljardim8177 that's with an unrestricted ECU
In Germany the gentlemens agreement ( from the late 70s to the 90s) was "Not more than 74kw". Therefore all Motorbikes where sold limited only (and for a few bugs you could buy the de-limiter-package afterwards).
Another german agreement (strict until end of the 90s, currently softend - the buyer has to sign for unlimited version) - All faster cars are limited to a max speed of 250km/h (155mph) .
300kmh speedos became 280kmh speedos with 2 extra lines..
