Sushiho kata
it is truly mesmerizing although some people gave negative comments about it , because they want it to look tense , for those people , you should know before you comment that this is the man who puts the outlines of a good kata performance.

Fun video. I like how you can hear everything -- his footwork, the snap of his gi. Seems like he holds his breath a lot; is that so?
People don't realize it's harder to do something with precision and technique than it is to do something fast. This was really good.

I love his speed when performing this form. for some reason people think you need to try and go unreasonably fast, but this looks strong and functional
i am amazed by his balance.... he is always steady through the whole routine....amazing....

@ahmednabil actually he is holding his breath but only for the execution of the techniques..many great masters believe that you can generate more power by retaining the breath in the tandem when executing a technique. the exhale comes after. its like holding your breath to lift something heavy..more power!! breathing through the teeth or exhaling during a technique is not the only way..

I agree, this is a good performance of the form. However, Oyama did write a book about the kata, including Sushiho. This form is described in Advanced Karate written by Oyama and published by Japan Publications. Copies are expensive, and hard to find, but they're out there.

some of these arguments are ridiculous, and I laugh at anybody who gives matsui's performance a thumbs down -- do you think you can do better?! Oyama himself allowed the kata to change (I wouldn't necessarily say "evolve" either) over the years, and although he set out to standardise them, he never wrote a book on them, so there is no "gospel" for everyone to follow. Fair enough too, as the kyokushin kata are nothing like the original kata from which they are derived.

@H0useMouse Okay. Verry nice comment. I like what you said alot. Please work hard to make that reality. Remember to practice the Kyokushin with heart and honor means honesty too and when so many groups steal everything from the Sosai's familia it is not honorable.

Very intresting. I'm just about to learn sushiho and we (IFK) do several passages quite different. I'm wondering if there was something lost or forgotten by Hanshi Steve Arneil or if it's simply another interpretation.

@wei461101 How long were you uchi deshi for? That is cool. Do you Shihan Quinn in Australia. He was uchi deshi for a few months then too. Also Wasn't Kancho Matsui there then too?

@H0useMouse Exactly. The 'deviations' not original, not necessary, or they are not helpful. No need to change these things. Deviations just for sake of it, just so they say they are different and avoid being responsible. Like you say, new members don't know difference. There stuck. Best to do is train and try to connect with Sosai's Honbu dojo in time. The sempais are the ones who don't pass truth on. I like your words. Ossu!

Sosai didn't do it that way. Little differences.
I remember that Kancho Matsushima is still doing it the "original" way...
IKO Matsui has made a lot of changes from the original katas and syllabus
@H0useMouse No insult intended but if you take as an insult, why? Members of Matsushima have lots of ways to find out there organization is not part of Sosai or the Honbu. They just self-made and have no justification for exist. I read on forum where Matsushima lied verry big time to Honbu and make promises then backed down. It is not to do with the members of the branchs becoz sometime they know nothing, But instructors have duty to know truth about where they send there money too.

Well, he said himself he no longer likes doing karate and for him IKO is just way to make money for his business. He leaves karate up to Gorai now.
sushiho, even better tha. gojushiho that I trained for years in shotokan because shoshiho is seen more realistic in bunkai than gojushiho. Don't blame me. Blame that JKA instructors who are not seriius in developing gojushiho bunkai
Sold his loyalty to Sosai and Kyokushin for money. For him the karate organization is just a way to make money. I predict he will leave karate alltogether within 10 years and pass the organization to someone else. NOW he just takes money and takes money.

So did Matsushima. He is not connected at all to Sosai's karate now. Matsushima even added new kata!! That is not doing the original way.

Matsui unnecessarily changed the kata, who created the Mas Oyama. According to me a form which retains Arneil is most appropriate and reflects the original. Even Oyama signed under the book, which he created Arneil. Matsui and the rest some of the masters want to show what kind they are not good and they changed kata. I don't like "new"=worse katas.
