From this historical archive, we are able to witness an ACCOMPLISHED MARTIAL ARTIST-Karate-ka. Matsui Shokei's kicking technic is masterful. Watch how he has achieved a fine balance in his body, the very smooth pivot, speed and accuracy. Master Matsui has demonstrated Karate in it's finest, his demonstration here serve as a supreme example for all those who are serious about learning martial art technic. His kicking is super. My most respect to Master Matsui.
It is an honor to see footage of those who train as a lifestyle. Whether one would like to call this classical karate or functional, or both. This shows that you can reach high levels in whatever you put your mind to. It is applicable in anything in life.
From this video we can see that Master Matsui have perfected " jodan-mawashigeri ". He trained both legs to be extraordinarily flexible, forceful, speedy and accurate, so that the technic have become integral part of his reflex... it had become his instinct. Unquestionably an accomplished KARATE-KA, A GREAT MARTIAL ARTIST UNPARALLELED IN IT'S CLASS OR PROBABLY WITH OTHER SCHOOLS OF MARTIAL ART. My salute to this very gifted artist and the MASTER OF KARATE. Osu !!
I am not a Kyokushin guy, my experience goes to Shotokan karate (3rd Dan), kickboxing (trainner), taekwondo and muay thai. Excuse me for being so ignorant in this subjet, but, even for me, it is quite obvious...this guy is a genious !! Flawless technnique, impresive speed and unrivaled power. I am truly overwhelmed. This is the real, pure Karate spirit....Osu !!! :D
this is a great video about shokei matsui...great fighter ever...good representation of kyoukushin karate...being a kohai, for me its very hard to beat him...great fighting skills...kyokushin forever...kyokushin for life...osu
i've done taekwondo before now i just started kyokushin!!! big differece alot more techniques!! in taekwondo i never found that much of spiritual power!!! Kyokushin is a great kind of sport!!! Osu
Add KM, judo and escrima to that list (1dan in KM,1 kyu in shotokan and TKD, 3rd in judo) and you get my list of experience. And, ofc, i agree whole-heartedly with you. Great spirit, great min. Osu!
Awesome, same age as me and he is soooooo far beyond anything I could hope to attain, but an inspiration, going for my Kyokushin Sandan which would be a doodle if I was half as good as Kancho. OSU!
There is no doubt he is talented and a great karateka. The only problem I have with him is his humility and I am not the only one that thinks this. Perhaps Sosai gave him this title because of his fighting prowess and it would splinter the Kyokushin world so we would spread to the 4 corners of the earth? Perhaps one day, we will all reunite once again under one style instead of many splintered groups? OSU!
Thought I'd let you know Nabil - part of your highlight appeared in ufc 162 on GSP's head coach phone - thought it was pretty cool, Matsui was on there as well meeting george thought I'd let you know, osu!
Yeah...but..we do kempo sparring also..we can participate in all kinds of contests even something similar to judo in the kempo federation ...K1 system etc :)..that's the great thing..we chose
Matsui's fighting way is different to all kyokushinkai fighter... In my opinion and thought, he actually have balance of yin and yang. That's mean he has master it. He is the greatest karateka. but i am sure he is the best fighter in the world...
Yeah I thought this way and my sensei said the same, but from what I've read personally from Kuristina Oyama most of the accusations regarding Matsui Kancho sadly seem to be true for the most part - its logical as well that Sosai would want his family to be part of his honbu & they were before his death & he'd probably want them to get financial benefit from his business like they did when he was alive, but under Matsui they got nothing, they also won a huge court case against him as well.
In the majority of those sparring matches the opponents were hardly fighting back in fear of offending their Senior Instructor. Unfortunately this is a major reason why so many instructors have such inflated ego's.
Oh..and for those who would say what right does he have to correct Gekisai dai , I can tell you that besides having that kata in the Goju-ryu curriculum after his martial arts experience he can watch youtube etc and know what he's talking about. Did I mention how cool this video is? :D
@cb7pwn, You should check out Georges St. Pierre. Not only is has he been the UFC's Welterweight King for the past 6 years, he's one of the most prolific Mixed Martial Artists of our day. Although he's become famous for his wrestling abilities, his background is rooted in Kyokushin Karate. He engages in, "modern day fights," a few times a year, and his next one will be in November 16 against a tough competitor- Johnny Hendricks. It's an exciting stylistic fight so be sure to tune in!
No-one can deny how great a martial artist or karateka he is, undoubtedly one of the best technical kyokushin fighters to ever grace knockdown but an asshole of a human being if he really did all the things that he's been accused of to the honbu & family of Sosai Oyama. I really don't understand why stuff like is monopolised by Karate - soo much backstabbing, politics, betrayal etc etc - really ironic since Karate is meant to build character - don't understand what is going wrong...
my friend he is but don't forget he never defeated Andy Hug when he fight him so now that Andy is dead we will never know.........and Andy was Oyama's student too........so?who would be a greater champion?
...I think the proof is there regarding Matsui but people don't want to believe it because he is such a great karateka, including me. I think that was one of the reasons Loek Hollander & some European dojo's broke away too - even though they said it for political purpose. It's sad to see, everyone backstabbing each other because of money - what happened to the budo in Kyokushin Karate? Something must have gone wrong in Sosai's teachings if soo many backstabbing & betrayal anyway osu...
not from the hip. Hikite I think it's spelled. I specifically asked my sensei about that. I asked him how should i keep my arm in hikite and he told me that as straight and as high as possible. The hit should come perpendicular to wherever or whatever you are hitting. Basically in hikite the arm should be held parallel to the floor. Each to his own I presume. Whatever works. I'm not giving advice here by the way. :)

Another fine example of Sosai's art. My students watch these videos and get so excited about Kyokushin.
I've watched several Kyukushin fighters, no matter how dominate they were they never made it look this effortlessly.
Страхотен боец и страхотна музика за клипчето.Матцуи е един от идолите ми!
Great fighter and great music for the video.Matsui is one of my Idols!
It is an honor to see footage of those who train as a lifestyle. Whether one would like to call this classical karate or functional, or both. This shows that you can reach high levels in whatever you put your mind to. It is applicable in anything in life.
His leg control is amazing, makes me appreciate kyokushin more, thanks!

the kicks looks so effortless, yet it knocks people out lol
I also believe Matsui was the best technician of all of Sosai Oyama's original students, and yes the greatest karateka in the last 25 years.

Kancho is GOD !!!!!!!!!!
Arigatou! Oss!
Godlike!
i still don't understand how he manages to sweep so easily... like if they were weighless or faking it...
amazing
He is a good fighter.
Matsui's fighting way is different to all kyokushinkai fighter... In my opinion and thought, he actually have balance of yin and yang. That's mean he has master it. He is the greatest karateka. but i am sure he is the best fighter in the world...
Me too!

u could see similar kicking tehnique in k1 used by Glaube Feitosa. Annyway awesome tehnique. OSU !

mmarzec. Did you uppload that movie when Oyama was kicking in the honbu dojo? It has dissapered.

ohhh una bestia
Kyokushin Rules-The Best!!!! OSU!
i think bjj is a more complex sport and i think you have to understand it to enjoy watching it, whereas this is impressive no matter what u know
at the begining when he broke those boards, what the hell was that blu light that emitted from his hand, or was that a camera flash?
Great video my friend,
track details after some searching:
Title: Blackout
Artist: Novadriver
Album: Deeper High
Cheers
Anyone seen that Oyama kicking in honbu dojo vid? It has dissapered.
Oh wow. Boot to the head. A lot. :o

@ahmednabil i'd say kenji midori is in the league of his own too
my friend he is but don't forget he never defeated Andy Hug when he fight him so now that Andy is dead we will never know.........and Andy was Oyama's student too........so?who would be a greater champion?
They are not Taekwondo kicks...as stated in the video, they are Jodan Mawashi Geris...the signature Kyokushin Kick....
@catro80 no, he ever defeated andy hug.. but of course not by knock out....
tell that to top k1 fighters, and also andrews Nakahara
@tzarmu Yes, it looks pretty effective! Looks like only 19 people have succeeded in this challenge, is that still true?
