Had a crack at this, don't need to remove drive shaft, don't drain gear box, just undo the drive shaft coupler and it moves enough to remove the top bolt on the sump bracket and the sump bolts.... drop exhaust to allow easy removal and fitting of the sump once prepped. Saves a lot of messing around indeed.. thx for this video. I would not have attempted it. it gave some great tips... patience is the key with this job..
Got oil seal on my Astra 2.0 CDTI replaced by Harvey's, Hill top West Bromwich. £230.00 including oil change, oil filter and new sump gasket. They had to remove the drive shaft. There were no cut outs in the flywheel or the sump, so they had to undo the gearbox to make enough room for access to the 2 sump bolts.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video, it made me realise i will unfortunately be paying someone else to do this job. (got a leak) Illness and age. I hate getting old , haha. Take care
You can actually do it without undoing the driveshaft or splitting the bottom ball joint ect. If you undo the tree bolts around the driver's side driveshaft intermediate bearing next to the inboard CV joint and split the bearing out of the bracket, it allows you to knock the whole driveshaft outwards towards the wheel slightly, this then gives you the room needed to remove that last bolt that holds the bracket to the engine. One thing to note though, on the later cars (post 2014 IIRC) you cannot access the two sump bolts behind the flywheel from underneath as there's no indexing slot in the flywheel anymore. This means the flywheel must be removed which is a major pita if you don't have garage facilities! This process involves dropping the gearbox, removing both driveshafts and lowering the subframe a tad! Has to be said, these are really well designed cars🤔🤷♂️🤬!
@@jonyr1TT Cheers, it was very handy to see your video before attempting this job. It's really helpful that people like yourself post these videos! Thanks 👍
sorry my friend can you give me some info I have an opel insignia with automatic 4x4 gearbox it's a little more difficult to pull the sump down there's little space near the differential how can it be done?
I have an Astra J 2.0 litre CDTI. I believe i have the same engine. I am getting a low oil pressure warning when i start the car in the mornings. Stays on for approx 20 seconds before the warning stops. Is this an indication that the oil seal needs replacing?
@@jonyr1TT I can confirm it is the same engine. Engine is an A20DTH. It has 75000 miles on the clock, 2013 model. My Turbo started making noises last week. Bearings had worn out. I have replaced the Turbo cartridge myself. I am now wondering if the low oil pressure brought about the demise of the Turbo, but i don't know how long a Turbo is expected to last.
Sorry everything in this video was a first time for me. But yes i have another video on replacing the seal and i did disconnect the driveshaft but left it in place
There was a bit of a leak around the strainer tube O ring but that's not the main reason for removing the Sump these insignias have a common fault. All will be revealed in the next insignia video. 👍 cheers.
Pig of a job on a drive..the flexi will pop off its just extremely tight to the subframe and always remove the dipstick as it can get trapped when re assembling

Yes its not cheap but worth having it done if you've got the spare cash 💰👍
Is that the oil seal that causes the oil low pressure - stop engine alarm? If it is thats a great price!!
Yes it is. 👍

Glad to help. I'm 63 this year don't think I'd be doing it again. 👍

If its the same engine I would say yes. DO NOT DRIVE IT get it sorted ASAP.

nice one
is this the same process for replacing a oil pickup seal ? Also is it true that the driveshaft does not have to be removed ? thanks'

are you doing the oil pump seal?
you've got it buddy..
Hi matey, I can just see the 2 hidden bolts on mine, when you turned your crank did you get a clear passage past the fly wheel.
Hi Kevin. Yes make sure you turn the engine very slowly its easy to miss the right sports. Mine was a 09 SRI. Best of luck fella 👍
Hi. Do you know the drive shaft/wheel nut torque setting on these? Just did mine and not sure. Thanks
No, sorry it's a old video I sold this car a couple of years ago. 👍
Did the 2 bolts on sump gearbox drop out
Yes they did 👍
When you refitted the sump did you remove the engine mount to jack the engine/gearbox higher ?
No I didn't I only needed a couple of milometers
Why is my sump getting very hot it scorches the grass many thanks
My first guess would be the main bearings might be dry and getting very hot.
@@jonyr1TT many thanks i will get it sorted thanks
👍
Any chance you could do mine Johnny
No thank you 🔨🔩🔧
Brother you need to speak up when you are talking good video mind
Ok sorry and thanks for the interaction.
Was it leaking Johnny?

Failed pickup seal causes low pressure and catastrophic engine failure
