    Thanks so much for taking the time to do this video! It’s cost me £55 quid and a couple of hours work, instead of around 200 quid to fully service my car for life now! 👍

    Thanks for this. I done a full service on my gf's Insignia B (first time I've changed a fuel filter), but she jumped in it straight after and engine started for a second or 2 then cut out! She looked at me with a look that would melt iron, I think she loves her car more than me. Anyway, this video saved me, turned the ignition on and off about 15 times without the engine, and eventually started hearing some strange noises from back near the fuel filter, bit like the noise when someone is milking a cow into a bucket! After that car started up but stuttered a bit. Took it for a spin and after that it has been fine! So thanks for that, I appreciate it.

    Done my first ever service yesterday after watching this, thanks!
    Sump nut rounded off and garage didn’t want to crack it in case the sump itself cracked so had to use an oil extractor to get it out through the dip stick hole. Not ideal but it’s done.
    Felt like a proper bloke 😁

    I always give this a quick watch before I service my insignia. One tip I have found is the large Toblerone tube makes a great drain for the filter housing with one side cut along the length to make a channel. Done my for the last time as it's now up for sale to be replaced by a camper.

    This is really great. I've had a 2011 Saab Z19DTR which is really similar for three years now and only with the last service did I decide to do all by myself. Took a lot of digging on the internet to find out where everything was, but once you do it, it's really simple the next time. This kind of videos really help build up confidence to do this kind of stuff yourself, highly appreciate it. And once you know how to do it, you just wish you'd done it sooner because it's a huge saving not having to take your car done by someone else.

    I'm about to start servicing. I doubt the garage I was using was doing it all. I always had to chase them to stamp the book, and it was always main service - never interim. So it was always more expensive. I did disks and brake shoes all round the car last week, now following this to fully service this coming Monday along with drop links and rear nearside spring in prep for MOT. (I have a 2014 Insignia, had it 10 years). Thanks lot mate, even at 5 years - this is gold! Subbed 🙂

      I do have a video replacing the rear springs for the insignia.
      It's a shame I don't have cars to work on now hence no videos. Saying that tho I am about to fit new coil overs on my bmw 420 so I might video that.
      If you have any issues or get stuck drop a comment on this video hopefully I see it pretty quickly

Looking through the Haynes Manual I have and online, is the engine management light on as there is too much oxygen in the system that the sensors are picking up and will clear/remove the engine management light if you continue to drive the car?

    Had my car serviced at a garage but the oil is still black so not so sure if they did it or not. I have insignia 2010, I did read sometimes the oil can still go black after a service is this true? I’ll be checking the air filter to see if they have replaced that wish I watched your vid first. After first drive I had a message saying oil pressure warning turn off engine so did that turned it back on and didn’t have the warning but did notice after looking under the bonnet that they had even disconnected the radiator fan and not plugged it back in. Not even sure why it was disconnected. Any advice?

    • @Thediycarchannel
      @Thediycarchannel  3 года назад +1

      Oil can look black after a change. But not jet black normally like a bronze sort of colour. If you did like 100 miles then had a look it could seem black but if you checked it straight after it should look pretty clean.
      No idea why fan was unplugged that's odd.
      I would also be suspicious like you.
      Hope this helps thanks Dave

      @@Thediycarchannel the reason it went in was because the car went into limp mode and rac guy said only fault that came up was the exhaust temp sensor was high. So took it to garage and they replaced the sensor did a flush of the dpf as said it may not if regenerated if faulty sensor so had it serviced as well. I checked the oil after a drive as I had oil pressure low come up turn off engine message but that went after I switched it on again. Also had abs and anti skid lights come on a couple of times since it being serviced and two new tyers

    Hi please can you tell me why my insignia 2011 always loses the oil cap, I always tighten it but it always comes loose and enough oil is escaping from there.
    Secondly, under the cabinet driver's side. After switching the engine off, there's this sound like long bip sound that slowly goes off.
    The last. In the air system or hydraulic system, there's also sound like gas out of a cow. But only sometimes not always.
    I want to be sure of what it's going on before I will go to mechanic. Sometimes it can be something that doesn't need a repair hope. Thanks

    One question I forgot to ask, did you jack up just one side of the vehicle or both sides to get underneath. If just one side, will this allow complete drainage of the oil from the sump? Thanks.

    • @Thediycarchannel

      Both due to engine cover underneath and you need it quite high to fold it back

    Hi, at the end of your video (13min 30 secs) you are re-pressurising the fuel system by turning the ignition on and off ? - Does that mean the fuel pump is electric ?? Also what size is the OIL filter cover ? - I know you said the fuel filter was 36mm - But what size is the oil cover ??? it looks a bit smaller ? possibly a 34?

    • @Thediycarchannel

    Nice video. Thanks for making it. I am trying to do a fuel filter change but the garage that did it last has put the nut on way too tight - stupidly tight, and I can't undo it. I am using a 36mm socket and wrench. The fuel filter is housed on the tank and there have been reports that people have actually cracked the plastic housing bracket and tank trying to change the fuel filter when it has been put on too tight. I have tried WD40 on the mating surface of the housing but so far I can't get it undone. The other way is to unclip the fuel housing unit from the car entirely and try to unscrew it on the workbench but this seems a very big job with all that fuel. Any thoughts? Thanks once again.

    Hi I've bought a 2010 insignia. I know it needs a service but I was wondering if you know what could be causing the car to struggle starting. It takes a lot of effort for the car to turn over. Could it be a blockage. Because once its started it's fine. But it's really Russian roulette getting her started it can be a real strain kn the battery. Any advice would be gratefully received.
    Nigel from ireland

    • @Thediycarchannel
      @Thediycarchannel  3 года назад

      Could be a few issues Nigel will list them below
      .Lazy battery not putting the amps out.
      Lazy starter motor or faulty .
      Pressure building in the engine due to blocked breathers , or maybe injector seals gone.
      Blocked exhaust system i.e dpf or cats maybe
      If it was winter I would say glow plugs
      Have the battery checked first just incase it don't have the amps meaning it don't have the cranking power needed

    • @Thediycarchannel
      @Thediycarchannel  3 года назад

      Then crank seals etc there is an endless list

      I'm not sure I can't see why not tho
      Unless they changed the design

    Hi. One more question. Is there a cover over the fuel filter that you have to remove to access it. Had a quick look under and couldn't see it but looks like there's a plastic cover which I am guessing it is under?

      It's underneath but the rear door on the drivers side

    Cheers for the video very helpful I just bougth a 132 reg vauxhall insignia 2.0l 163 bhp limited edition and I'm noticing a loud howling noise inside car when I drive at around 40km an hour, would this be wheel bearing issue as I've just put 4 new tyres on and also had it it tracked and balanced

      That's no problem at all thank you for your comment
      Howling ?
      Bearings are more of a humming / wining sort of sound
      If you can explain more about it or send me a video to my email if you can get the sound on video I will help best I can
