  • I thought it might be fun to try something entirely different today, both in content as well as editing. I've had vloggy-type videos before so hopefully it's not too drastically different. In this video I'll highlight a bit of the fun parts of the weekend at Sweetwater's Gearfest, then I'll go backstage and check out Warren Haynes touring rig.
Big thanks to Robert Baker, RJ Ronquillo, Robert Keeley and Matthews Effects at Gearfest

Warren is one of my all time favorites and one of the nicest guys ever. When I was 14 my dad took me to my first ABB show and we were front row center and I was really having fun and Warren noticed me and asked me if I wanted a shirt and told Dickey to get me one and they both signed it and walked right to the end of the stage and threw it right to me AND both gave me picks! From that time on he became one of my greatest heroes ever. I still have a Rotosphere on my pedal board to this day because of him. Larry Carlton levels of phrasing. Duane Allman levels of melody in his solos. That's Warren Haynes in a nutshell. One of the best to ever do it. Period.

That is so great you scored an SLO-100! I hope to someday own one. I would put the SLO up there with the greatest guitar amps of all time. What's even cooler is that Mike is just a genuine person (like everyone at Wampler Pedals). He's a self-taught amp builder, and he built the SLO in a completely unorthodox ("non-textbook") way compared to his contemporaries in the 1980's. What he gave us was a unique and amazing product. Brian has expressed that he's self-taught as well and has given us unique products with different takes on pedals than what "everyone else is doing." Even his bluesbreaker and tube screamer pedals are significantly tweaked to be unique...not mere clones. It just goes to show: if you are driven and passionate about something, work hard (there is no substitute for this) and chase it down. All the best to you and your crew, Brian! You guys are easy to root for!

The Sweetwater event looked like it was going to be a really fun event. It's still really refreshing that so many of the pedal makers seem to have a mutual respect and admiration for one another. It makes me want to support everyone, but my pedal board isn't big enough (and I'm running out of shelf space haha). Still love my Tumnus, some day I'll pick up an Ego when I feel the need for some compression

Brian, Warren’s Soldano was modded by Mike (Soldano) for a warmer sound/tone! The tone stack is different. Mike told me like 25 yers ago what he did.. but that was 25 years ago and I really don’t remember.

Mikey Houser, RIP, original widespread panic guitar player usedSoldano SLO 100 mega lead sound! He preferred telecaster plus deluxe and made them sound so good! Brian, check his tones out. His clean sound, with use of volume pedal, is amazing. Has a country rock feel that I think you will like. Check out some live footage from late 90-00's if you're curious. :)

Warrens tone is tough to achieve even with identical gear. But, I found on a budget, a Vox HW AC30 jumper with TS808 pushing into a Wampler Euphoria is all over it. Of course there are other routes but that was one of mine from back in the day. Now with a Hand wired JTM45 and the Vet V2 by Thorpy I’ve finally Found my own tone

For the drum delay sounds on live Dark Side of the Mule shows (like on “Time” and “Shine on You Crazy Diamond”), anyone know if Warren is using a real Binson Echorec? Or getting the delay from a pedal (like a Boonar or Catalinbread Echorec). Love that delay sound - I can’t find any information on it anywhere. Thanks!

..Brian Wampler's a stand-up guy ...very passionate about his pedals , and refuses to release a pedal until it's dial ed in perfectly with whatever tone and feel he's shooting for ....couple years ago due to financial struggles , I had to sell my pedal board.......LSS , next purchase I'll probably go back all Wampler ....and have zero issues with that move .... because again Brian Wampler bleeds honesty , passion and integrity .......ps Warren Haynes is great , all around ...he's a friend...

My pedalboard? Well, I am glad you asked! I have a 100% Wampler board. A Sovereign and a Plexi Deluxe, then an Ego Compressor, then an Ethereal delay/reverb (best delay ever made) and I balance it all out with an EQuator (best EQ ever made) It all goes into a Bravado head and matching 1x12 cab. Expensive? You bet. This ain't no game folks, I do this shit for a living and studio grade effects are like a scalpels for a surgeon, or wrenches for a mechanic. If Wampler made a guitar I would own it too. I also have other pedals they're just not on my board right now. I bought everything except the head/cab from my local GC in Castleton Indy where I have seen Mr. Wampler himself. That gives all my pedals some mojo you can't get from anywhere else! lol Love 'em!
