When I was14 years old in 1996 my dad took me to my first ABB show and we were front row center and I was having the time of my life! Well Warren noticed me there and picked me out to a security guy and went and told Dickey he wanted to give me an Eat A Peach shirt and him and Dickey signed it and walked right to the end of the stage and picked me out and tossed it right to me along with a couple of guitar picks! I still remember that moment like it was yesterday and Warren is still one of my all time biggest influences and I've had a Hughes and Kettner Rotosphere on my board for almost 20 years simply because he uses one as well. He's one of the all time greats. Forever. Period. I've seen him live multiple times with ABB and Gov't Mule and he brings it every time. I couldn't even begin to guess how much time I spent in my bedroom learning everything I could on the Dose album and I saw them open for Skynyrd back then and they absolutely murdered Skynyrd. The original Mule took absolutely ZERO prisoners. They killed! Long live Warren Haynes!
Most humble guy in the music business. Met him after shows a couple times and just a sweetheart of a man. His guitar tone is to die for. The guys is the total package guitar playing, singing and a underrated songwriter, the guy writes amazing tunes!
Amen on the comment that he’s an underrated songwriter !! I agree 1000% !! Everyone knows he’s a great guitarist and singer . He’s an amazing songwriter …..
It’s amazing how the Allman Brothers Band has had some of the greatest guitarists of all time in the band like Duane Allman, Dickey Betts, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, Jack Pearson and Dan Toler. All are legends.
I'm 69, and I have taken my influences from a wide range of music/players. Warren is one of my top 5 all time favorite players/singers! He has also taught me a lot, and he doesn't even know it! If you see this my friend, thank you so much for everything!! 8) JMHO --gary
While watching this, I was thinking, "He is such a National Treasure..." then scrolled down to type in a rare (for me) comment and found yours James. Made me smile. Thanks
I'll echo that. Talked to him a bit online over the years and he was always such a cool guy who took time to answer questions. It was extremely sad when we lost him
I think I just heard the best piece of advice I've ever heard. As musicians, we need to remember how to listen to music as non musicians. The depth of that statement is huge.
I am 65 and have been fully into music and collecting Vinyl ever since I was 11. I have more music by Warren than anybody else and have seen him Live more than anybody else. My younger brother turned me on to Mule in the 90s and I will always be grateful to him for that. I had already been enjoying Warren in ABB. Will have to wait until Feb. for the 3 LP version of Heavy Load Blues, but have the Deluxe CD version coming next week ! Warren is the hardest working guy in music.........at least of those on my radar. Keep On Keepin` On Warren and Mule !!!
@@acousticshadow4032 NOT more than anybody else has ever seen him or owns by him.......But more than I have seen anybody else play or own music by anybody else........I don`t doubt that you, or hundreds of other people(which I know for a fact) for that matter, have seen them more than I have. After all I have lived a basically simple country life many many miles away from music venues, although going to them is one of my favorite ways to spend extra money and time. Over the past few months I have seen The Black Crowes, Allman Betts Band, Los Lobos and Blackberry Smoke 2 times, and I see North Mississippi Allstars and Cedric Burnside next week and Hot Tuna & Steve Kimock next month. Was a long 20 months without getting out to shows.........been since Aug. 2018 since my last Warren/Mule gig...........thankfully I`ve been collecting music for nearly 55 years to listen to during the close down times of music venues !
Saw the brothers twice with Warren and Woody in the band. Great lineup with Dickey who is also a great singer songwriter and player. Warren and Matt were on Dickey’s album pattern disruptive in the 80s. Killer jams
Warren talks about his old guitar tech, Brian Farmer…RIP Brian. Brian was one of the nicest people you could ever meet. My wife and I met he and Warren in Portland, ME years ago through a dear friend, and that day will always be a special time in our life.
I've seen Govt. Mule numerous times and come to the conclusion that Warren is just about the best guitar player out there and a great singer as well. His skill at improvisation puts him above just about every other player out there. Definitely a national treasure.
Love Warren!!! Love how he always try to help aspiring musicians with his words and thoughtfulness… knowing we’re all on different journeys and abilities! 😄
One of my favorite players and a real gentleman. My son is is a huge fan and we met him on his way into the Beacon at am Allman Brothers show, he took the time to talk to my son who was thrilled. A real down to earth guy.
Hands down my favorite guitar player. Met him years back. Even signed a PRS guitar for me. I gigged that guitar 3/4 nights a week for years to come afterwards.
Excellent interview. Loved Warren's answers, especially around playing like a singer and the important of breathing and pushing oneself outside of the comfort zone. John Mclaughlin said something similar - about how much he wants to see the musician fighting with their instrument on stage. The need for raw vs polished expression.
Great interview! That's a lot of wisdom and great ideas. Warren is such a great songwriter, player, and just a cool guy. I ran into him, standing behind the Fillmore as I was walking into a Mule show. He was just hanging out, surprising people, and saying hi. He was really nice.
Holy crap!!! i got That Willie Dixon box set for Xmas when I was 15 and it opened my world… I went from zeppelin to that and down the rabbit hole and never came back. No regrets.
When one of my decade older friends says "Yeah but you missed Jimi or Duane" i ALWAYS respond, " Yeah but I've got Warren n Derek"..... That shuts'em up!!
He hit Steve Howe/early Yes right on head, those first handful of albums are great in how many influences are present. Warren is one of the greats and seems like smart. nice fella.
His sense of touch , feel , melody everything is so heavenly good. Love his tenure in Almighty Allaman brother band. He is one of the most prominent player in the history of rock. When I think of southern rock band I think of Warren Haynes Totally underrated
Warren is one of my favorite players. I've seen with the ABB and Government Mule and his tone is amazing! That neck pickup tone from his Les Paul is THE BEST as far as I'm concerned and his playing is so tasty. 👍👍
I have that 3 album Willie Dixon box set ! It was released in 1988 and included a 15 page album size booklet full of liner notes and pictures. Lots of original recordings. I especially like Little Walter doing My Babe. I was humbled to be able to attend Mr. Dixon's New Orleans styled funeral in Chicago on February 5th, 1992. Thank you Warren Haynes for this insightful video ✌️❣️🎵
"Real" is better than "good" every time. I don't really care how good your technique is, or how great your tone is or how clear your amps are, what get's me every time is some one's real passion and love for the piece they are playing. It is where the heart of music lives. Warren has always exemplified that and it is why I've have always been a big fan. Cheers brother.
One of the all time greatest guitarists! I’ve seen Warren play several times with different bands and he’s always amazing. I love what he says in this interview. Good stuff!
I think it's the binding that comes up to meet the fret ends. Nobody offers that anymore. That feel of the wide mohogany, and rosewood that just sounded the right amount of woody.
Been a fun since I saw them for the first time in Italy in the 90's. The Gov't mule is the concert I never miss since then. Warren is one of the best Les Paul players out there - for me the best one with Reverend Billy G.
Warren is a genius of the musical persuasion!! I tell budding musicians that the best way to improve as a musician (for many reasons) is to play with other people. Great interview!
One of the things I love about Warren's playing is his phrasing, especially playing slide. He said it well; it helps coming from a background of singing before playing. You gotta take a breath once in awhile...🙂, unlike the shredders some consider great guitar players.
Miss you & derek !!! Had a stroke it messed up my playing guitar. Right when I had every thing I needed. Anyways, love the new CD And hope to see y'all again in the future. Scottie from Mississippi

Love this guy
He's like the Santa Claus of jam bands. Lol
He def takes time out of his day to greet and interact with fans with a smile and handshake.

Don't forget Jimmy Herring
As a guitarist for over 26 years I can say Warren has pure taste in everything he plays. One of the most under appreciated guitarists ever.
I enjoy hearing Warren Haynes talk music almost I as much as I enjoy hearing him play music.
Same

Warren is tops on my list- incredible tone and melodic phrasing, ordered the Mule’s new album “Heavy Load” and can’t wait to get it!

Long liv3 Warren Haynes and The Mule. Thanks for being a role model and keeper of the keys for southern/blues rock.
Warren and Dicky Betts was a great duo with the Allman Brothers.
So was Warren and Derek...... and when he jams with Herring... Just an awesome musician !

I absolutely love this man. I completely understand everything he says and it reassure me that I’m on the right course with my guitar playing.
I never knew Warren had a 59 Les Paul. Pretty awesome
My dad owned that Willie Dixon chess boxset on vinyl. I still play it all the time! Excellent
Holy crap!!! i got That Willie Dixon box set for Xmas when I was 15 and it opened my world… I went from zeppelin to that and down the rabbit hole and never came back. No regrets.
Wow! I would never have thought that Warren was a Yes fan and is appreciative of Steve Howe’s technique and talent.
The older the violin the sweeter the music dead on thanks Warren for all of your talent and music
When one of my decade older friends says "Yeah but you missed Jimi or Duane" i ALWAYS respond, " Yeah but I've got Warren n Derek".....

Amen to that! Actually, Warren and Derek played together longer than any other ABB combo. They were Fierce Duo!
Love this guy as a player AND a human. A National Treasure indeed.
Saw government mule in a tiny bar in Abilene Texas in the 90’s stood in front of his les Paul the whole set it blew my mind !
He hit Steve Howe/early Yes right on head, those first handful of albums are great in how many influences are present. Warren is one of the greats and seems like smart. nice fella.

Hi Warren;
I have a 72’ Lipstick pick- up Les Paul and I love it. It is very heavy! Enjoyed Your Work w ABB.
Thank you Warren for making some of the best music ever played.
Warren is so right. A little fight brings out the light.

Seeing Govt Mule playing the day Greg Allman died is one of the most amazing musical experiences of my life
Warren Haynes makes sense throughout this. Amazing.
Very cool Big 5! Warren is a great player and a real gentleman musician.
There is a reason Les Paul sat down to play. I had to sell mine because my left shoulder was almost 2 inches lower than the right.
One of the all time greatest guitarists! I’ve seen Warren play several times with different bands and he’s always amazing. I love what he says in this interview. Good stuff!
This interview was phenomenal.
Thank You Warren for this great interview, and for the many tears of inspirational music you have given us.
"How Ya Doin'?"
That was a heap of wisdom and explained well.

Love W.H.,awesome player & 1 of the hardest working musicians out there
Pause for the cause. What a perfectly awesome way to put it.
I think it's the binding that comes up to meet the fret ends. Nobody offers that anymore. That feel of the wide mohogany, and rosewood that just sounded the right amount of woody.
Great insights from this man. Love his take on what music is really about in the end.
Warren you are definitely at the top of my list for favorite guitar player and singer, to me you and Gregg Allman can't be beat

I’ll never forget Warrens solo from Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad with Clapton and Derek Trucks. He nailed it, I think he was using a Diaz amp.
I read your comment and I could hear that solo in my head! One of Warren’s best solos.
Steve Howe's thinnish tone melded perfectly with Chris Squire's huge thick bass tone. Best Bass tone ever, by the way.

Warren always had good taste. Small amps do sound great.
Spot on. So insightful from one the masters. Thanks!
