Warren carried The Allman Brothers for years towards the end. The combination between himself and Derrick Trucks was amazing. Southern blues rock at its best.

I saw Haynes with the Allmans back in the mid nineties and his guitar soared to the distance of that outdoor setting. Simply amazing

I discovered the Allman Brothers in 2015, sadly a year after they stopped touring, so I never got to see them live. However, I have seen both Derek (who I place at the number one spot of best guitarists) and Warren with their respective bands. In my opinion, Derek and Warren was the best guitar duo in the ABB since Duane and Dickie in the OG Brothers. What a total powerhouse combo. I personally don’t think they would have seen as much success in the band’s later years as they did if it weren’t for Derek and Warren. Luckily, none of the original members of the band ever lost a step and stayed completely on top of their game until the very end. Gregg’s voice just got better with age, which is something that is seldom true in the rock world, and his mastery of the B3 was always evident throughout his career. Butch and Jaimoe (and Marc) were still the same freight train barreling down the track as they were in the 70s. And of course, Oteil, Derek, and Warren remain three of the very, very best musicians you’ll find anywhere. So much talent.

@@dverygrateful1 I don't think Christopher's comment discredits any ABB members at all! I followed the ABB for years, saw 40+ shows, and have relationships with bandmembers, people in the group's staff, and their family members. It is definitely a fact of the ABB history that Warren joining the band and refueling Gregg kept the band going for another 15 YEARS, especially without Dickey Betts! Peace + Love.

Many years ago we had a garage band in our small town and we would practice at my cousin's house. There was this guy that moved there about 4 years prior that used to come and listen to us play. He was always talking about his brother playing guitar. Well, as you know if you play in a band you hear this all the time and you always go, "Cool" and blow it off. Well a few years later the guy met up with my cousin again and said he had some backstage passes to a concert where is brother was playing and asked if he wanted one. My cousin asked what was the name of the band. He said, "The Allman Brothers Band, ever heard of them?" He almost fainted. The guy we'd blown off a few times brother was Warren Haynes.

Warren Haynes is a great human being, you can sense the love of GOD in him by his demeanor and his stories. I love the story about Don Rickles saying to Greg Allman when taking a picture with him, “ I talked to Cher and it looks like I will be getting some of your furniture. “ LOL I ask Sonny Landreth about playing with Warren a couple of years ago and he told me that Warren Haynes is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to music, he said he knows more songs and remembers more lyrics than anyone he knows. Warren is a great musician and always does such a great job with every performance no matter what genre of music he is playing. I think this is your best interview Joe, fantastic job and great story content.

GREAT Interview...Particularly the Tonight Show stuff with the chart reading fools....In the 90's I was buying paint on a very hot summer's day at a now closed paint store right next door to the Musicians Union on Vine in Hollywood. As I'm putting the paint in my car all of a sudden I hear what sounds like the world's best stereo playing this amazing big band music. I follow the sound and it was a big band rehearsing for some charity event. On hot days they opened the doors to let in some breeze - or maybe being the weekend the ac was off? These old guys ( I leaned later many were the guys who worked in the Tonight Show Band) were WAILING.But the cool thing was this is in a rundown very Hispanic neighborhood and the music attracted a bunch of little ¬latin kids just awe struck by the great music - some were even jitterbugging and loving the great music.t was like a scene from a Fellini movie....

Not only is Warren Haynes possibly the hardest working guy in the music industry, he might also be the nicest. I've met him a few times and he always makes sure he has time to speak with fans. He is always humble, always respectful and always professional. I first saw him perform in 1989 with the Allmans and have seen him dozens of times over the years in every setting imaginable.
He is a man who never forgot his roots...
Not only that, but Warren most likely knows more songs and has played with more people than any musician alive. That's not an exaggeration either. He has probably performed a couple thousand different songs live and played with literally hundreds of amazing musicians from every genre of music.
How many players can perform songs by Bob Dylan, Black Sabbath, Tower of Power, Miles Davis, and Bob Marley all in the same show? Not many...
He has also written dozens of incredible originals with Govt Mule, The Allman Brothers Band, Phil Lesh and of course solo material. The man, the myth, the legend...Warren Haynes!
    Thanks Joe! You did great!

saw warren first time in the blues co-op band in nashville. they were great. after that was on the same stage with him and allen woody at a jam a guy would put on every year called the burnt knob jam. our band was asked to play there 3 years in a row. our band was called BULLET PROOF. had some kind compliments from them. we played alot of old songs, songs not heard alot. did some old louisianna lareux, i think that is how you spell. we were a good band in nashville area. played all over, smyrna, la vergne, murfreesboro, lebanon. had a good following. but back to warren. the last time we played the burnt knob jam, warren and allen had just joined allman bros, wayne turner form hank jr was there, an old slide player, cant remember his name, he was good. it was a fun time every time we played there. the last time, we all got on stage and jammed. remember there was a guy there trying to play with everyone on stage who was tuned down a half step, and he didnt notice it, but warren did and was giving that guy some very dirty looks. he finally realized and got off the stage. loved living in nashville.
