Maybe... but he can't tell a mini-humbucker from a P-90... which gave me pause, I have to say! - I have been guitar tech for Dennis Greaves of Nine Below Zero, Bass tech for Gerry McAvoy of Rory Gallagher fame, and a bunch of even less well-known names haha... and mostly, we don't know jack shit, we can just do the same stuff you can, but happened to be in the right studio at the right time to snap up the job as soon as it was spoke of! More than anything else, I LOVE the whole craft of the guitar, especially now I've put together my own little studio while we've been in lockdown here in the UK. Am burning to gig again - although when i do, the ratio will switch back to 90% of my energy devoted to acoustic guitars and the world of so-called 'unplugged' performances (which are nothing of the sort), rather than the noise and stink of thrash / death / doom / black metal, which is what me studio is all about. Anyhooch, I waffle, unprompted, as human conversation has become something of a novel luxury in the UK.... stay healthy sonic brother, love the thumbnail pic! - oh, and feel free to check out my meagre channel if you wanna see some of me work. Trace Foster - one of those geniuses that makes everything work. I was friends with Joe’s guitar tech Stan Clark during the Perry Project days and saw not an easy job. Unwanted war story: At a baseball stadium show in Puerto Rico the crowd rioted up to the stage - I was asked to go back to the tent and quick pile all Joe’s guitars on a cart and get them out of there. So there I was trying to get a dozen classic Perry/Aerosmith guitars into their broken cases (Joe had no money at the time) - anyway was successful.
Joe Perry better hope & pray that Trace Foster stays happy & healthy for as long as he plans to tour because that man has a wealth of knowledge about his on tour rig & how he likes it setup with a contingency plan for every possible scenario & does at least 4 times more than any tech I've ever seen on PG's Rig Rundown.. You earn your money Trace & with your work ethic taken into Consideration it should be reflected by earning what your worth & not based on the title that's been given to you...
Ikr, he's the same with Angus, he knows how he wants the amps to sound without dialing in exactly the right settings, rather dialing it into what sounds right, and he knows Joe Perry enough to know when to put effects in unlike other techs (except slash's tech) who just put the pedal in the same place every night
This guy would be an excellent guitar tech to have. He does a very good job and seems like he's quick during the shows when he needs to be. Joe's got some awesome guitars too!
I think this guy is my favorite tech I've seen through rig rundown videos so far. Knows the gear and the player. Any tech that knows his stuff rules, as long as it's not Synyster Gates' tech.
Sawyer Smoak I was thinking the same thing. it's cool to see the tech know his guitarist well enough. plus to know that right. good Lord so much stuff.
Him and Adam day (slash's guitar tech with guns N roses) are the best techs, they know when to turn on pedals without it just being here and there in the set just like every other night, when trace was working with Angus he knew about how he likes his sound without pedals, he knew that with his noise gate it needed to be really low.
same here... a dark burst, or the 'Slash' one that he got back on his birthday. I NEVER think of the bejewelled monstrosity that is the BC Rich hahahaha!
I absolutely love rig rundowns like this!! Tons of great guitars and amps. I cannot say how sick I am of watching these and seeing it's 3 Jackson guitars and an ax/fx or kemper
This is what a real tech looks & sounds like. Trace is a true music lover & hopeless gear hound. Perry knows if he brings home an amp & says it sounds great, it's going to sound great. He really puts a lot of trust in him.
Thank you PG for all the Rig Rundowns you've been presenting. It's really a treat to see what the BIG GUYS use in making the songs we hear and the tidbits of info the techs tell us about the quirks / Idiosyncrasies each has.
I had the misfortune of a fire in my studio in 2010. I had the good fortune of replacing the American Standard Strat I lost in the fire with a Customshop Deluxe Strat. What a guitar.
Great video. What a wall of amps! And a guitar tech who really really know what he's doing. I enjoyed every second. Only wish Joe himself was there as well.
Love every Rig Rundown I have seen. It would be cool to have clips of the particular guitarist featured playing the different guitars amps and effects as they show them.
This guy is great. I watch a ton of these. This was a great one for someone into amps and pedals. Some awesome heads in this. I'm a recent gear head. Mid 30s and didn't use a pedal (aside from the DigiTech multi effects and Zoom multi and such etc..)since 17 until a lil over a year ago. I used a fuzz box and it clicked. .. I am long winded. Good video, cool gear
When I was 14,15 just learning how to play, Joe Perry was my guitar idol. Rocks iirc was in 76 and was the first album I spent 8rs a days lifting the record needle over and over trying to figure out how to play his songs. Had no clue about different tunings which now I now why it was so hard. When EVH arrived from Planet Van Halen I was a ok player but when I heard Eruption I quit guitar for a few weeks. Like a lot of players I tried to imitate EVH but it was to late. I had the Perry,Nugent,Gibbons influence in my soul and EVH was just way to abstract. I knew what a humbucker was, Marshall ,Big Muff and a Rat. A whammy what? Finger tapping huh? I never was much of a cover/copy style guitarist and always played my own originals and everyone says they hear a little Joe Perry in me. Great vid and great to see these guys are still around. And yes. Perry was very lucky to have Brad Whitford as his wingman.
I played that black Gibson prototype over the weekend & it's simply awesome!! I think that Joe should do a production run BUT with a single coil on the neck & two separate volume controls & a 3 way toggle. This way HIS prototype is still the only version like that. :)
It's 2020... I'd like to see an updated Rig Rundown from Joe Perry. Especially since he changes guitars & amps all the time. What's he using for the Vegas Residency? Or Hollywood Vampires?

Trace thank you for sharing guitar tech tips. You are so liberal in the dissemination of guitar knowledge. Thanks also to Joe Perry for allowing Trace to speak. Finally, kudos to Shadrick and PG
That's an awesome rig. It was being back in the vintage and rare shop I used to work in. great tech and such a cool player. There are so few guitar players these days willing to listen to their gear like that. Although if everyone had a road crew and a great tech maybe that would change.
joe perry got a great taste! who knew he's not a boring old fart ... i wish aerosmith come to my city :-( ... kudos for the guitar tech! that's what i called guitar tech!

I think we would all be lucky to have guitar/bass tech's like this guy. Someone who explains everything for even non-literate guitar players to understand, and just a nice guy who you could kick back with and drink beers with. Joe doesn't realize how lucky he is, some tech's can be tedious and hard to work with.
I love it when the techs are huge fans of the artist they work with. What a great crew!
Same
I like it when the techs are faking it and have never even heard of the instrument they are teching for
@@Cuntstantinethat’s really weird
This guy is one of the coolest techs I've seen. He's into Joe and his playing and is interested in making it happen every night. Great interview.
joe perry can not play worth a damn....
@@bigbull4635 You are the one who cannot play😂😂

You can tell this guy takes pride in this rig.
Every time I think I have too much gear, I just watch a couple rig rundowns and suddenly I feel good about myself.
Same here lol🤘 🎸
Wow. I feel so honored to have met Joe's guitar tech.
Trace Foster - one of those geniuses that makes everything work. I was friends with Joe’s guitar tech Stan Clark during the Perry Project days and saw not an easy job. Love the war tales! That's a beaut however 😅👍
nice to see a such competent tech guy explaining this cool gear. wish i had this guy working with me.
Sid Fernandez Dude, did you pitch for the Mets in the 80's?!
he really knew the guitars
he also tech's for ACDC, i believe.
this is the first rig rundown I saw years ago and it's still one of my favorites if not the favorite.
The coolest Rig Rundown that I’ve ever seen.
great inside look at my favorite guitar player of all time. thank you for this awesome backstage tour.

Brad Whitford - "Yeah, Yeah, I built those pickups" kkkkkkkkkkkk xD
O:59 It almost looks like they put a cutout of a picture of a pickup on top of the actual pickup. 😳
This guy would be an excellent guitar tech to have. He does a very good job and seems like he's quick during the shows when he needs to be. Joe's got some awesome guitars too!
Now that is what I call a guitar tech!
He has his craft down!

This is a very very good rig rundown, very thorough and it's great to see the tech is so very enthusiastic about the gear too.
When I think Joe Perry, I think Gibson Les Paul and his Billie guitar.
He plays them all lol you can’t forget the Strats and Teles too!

This is one of the best and most informative rundowns I've seen. Really nice and helpful guitar tech.
Because when you think of Joe Perry, you think of...*pulls out something that isn't a Les Paul*
All jokes aside, this is cool.

Don't care that it's only used to create an in-ear sound for another member of the band/team. Seeing the Eleven Rack in Joe Perry's setup is awesome.

Sorry don't think of either of those guitars when you say Perry - I think Les Paul!
For me it's Les Paul, BC Rich Bich and Dan Armstrong "Draw the Line"
It depends on how old you are, I think. I always think of the Fender 6 and Back in the Saddle. There's good clips of that here on RUclips.
Yeah I always think of les Paul. But of course im a 90's kid. My dad showed me aerosmith.
Best Comment Award...
Joe's used strats .armstrong.b.c rich.gibson l.p .all different axes.I always thought of him as a strat player mostly.
I saw him on the permanent vacation tour. He had a different amplifier and guitar for every single song it was absolutely mind-blowing

it is.
I like this tech, he loves what he does and he doesn't mind sharing the knowledge

yeah I figured I'd throw it right back, everybody knows who the legendary joe and steven are
And that was a typo. Who cares?
That tech is a really nice guy! I enjoyed listening to him!
All these beautiful instruments and they produce " Music from another Dimension"?
