I had really high hopes for the 890R, one of those things were without a doubt it was going to be my next bike, didn’t really even consider the 765rs. I test rode the 790, 890R and Street Rs. I bought the 765Rs, just fell In Love with it straight away. I loved the agility of the 890R but the Sound, quality, Comfort seating position of the RS suited me perfect, I just loved it.👍🏻
I have a 2015 street triple 675 RX. Tried the 2020 Street Triple 765RS last year. Tried the Duke 890 (not the R unfortunately) this year. I don't think I have ever ridden an exciting parallel twin engine. The Duke didn't change that. The handling is great though. I also don't think I have ever ridden a better road bike than a street triple. And the 765RS is no exception. I also own a Tuono V4 and I have no doubt that I prefer my triumph over the Aprilia. Also tried the 2021 Speed Triple 1200RS which is in fact a street triple with a ridiculously fast engine. I think the 765 remains the better of the two for the road. The 1200RS is simply too much
@@brunocarmona4958 great info thank you. I just bought the Street Triple RS and almost got the Tuono or the new S1000R but the street rs is $7000US cheaper!! and I believe it's the better road bike - which you confirm ;)
I had a 790 duke never used 6th gear and below 20mph you had a choice of first gear with high revs being a nuisance to pedestrians or 2nd gear being juddery feeling like it will stall.however once you are going and it starts popping and banging going through the quick shifter it always made me chuckle like a kid
I went the other direction. I loved my RS, until I test rode the 890r. The torque is not comparable. The only aspect the Triumph would out perform is after the KTM has pulled away and when the KTM has stopped producing. It produces more torque at 3.5k than the Triumph throughout the entire range. Coming out of a corner is worlds apart. The actual wet weight is only 6lbs apart, with the KTM being lighter but it definitely feels lighter than that. I loved the look, fit and finish on the Triumph, but it lacked what the KTM gave, Excitement. The Triumph had a better quickshifter and slipper clutch. But the Triumph lacks a 6 axis IMU, which is responsible for the lean abs, look that up and you’ll understand. The rear brake on the KTM actually stops the bike, without the ABS engaging unnecessarily. Both are fantastic bikes, but I have zero regrets and my face hurts from smiling on this KTM.
"Fun....Giggles....Hoologan...." vs "Serious....track machine--IF the track were smoother (That track seemingly is like a real road--where I ride)....." . KTM for me. It happened long ago when I mistakingly rode my first bike a Monster S4 2002 into KTM dealership and on a whim rode the original Superduke 990. 12 kms--and a couple Ducatis and Triumph later : Three KTMs in the garage. They are not without flaws--but FUN is the name of the. game for me.
Love my 890R. Touque and handling are all that matters on the road. The Duke always puts a smile on my face. I ride my sons stree tripple every now and then. Its very refined, but not as fun. Fun is why I have the 890R.
1.17.0 vs 1.17.2 is not quite a lot. What's the variance between Don's laps anyway? Nothing against Don, all I mean is .2 of a second per lap is well within most non-pro-racer's laptime variance.
Different test to complement your review, it’s a test by french colleagues of you : Highside Hyper test In the end 3 pilots putting laps on each bike, 1st 890R 2nd Street RS 3rd Street R 4th 790 But they say that the best to buy for its price would be Street R by far
it comes out too a few hundy less than triumph with goodies added, however i couldnt find a triumph dealer who wasnt adding markup on triumph or yamaha.....got my KTM for better than MSRP and discounted tech pkg, freight, etc.....yamaha wanted 3k over and triumph was 2k over and spoke to most dealers in so cal.......aprilia was another option but didnt
@@kirkdunn1379 Oh, Cali? The East Coast, at least Maryland don't really make up motorcycles like that. Probably because we have 6months of cold and they know better than to think we'd pay that much above MSRP and ride it for 5 months (Most people anyway). That sucks man.
Having Pirelli Supercorsas on the Triumph and Mitas Sportforce(?) on the KTM seems unfair as it comes with Michelin Power Cups from the factory. I personally went with the RS due to all the reliability issues with KTMs. I'd rather ride my bike than be waiting for it to be serviced again and again.
I'm not sure if the high altitude affected one bike more than the other but in Europe I rode both bikes back to back and the ktm felt alot faster on the road.. the torque difference was very noticeable.. the ktm made the triumph feel very wheezy and revvy especially when overtaking, where the ktm just punched out of corners and made overtaking effortless
Here in India though the Triumph would cost you an arm and a leg whereas KTM is a more affordable option. Plus triumph's infamous lack of service network makes it more difficult to choose it
Me, I'd test ride both and take the one that was the most fun - which I'm guessing would be the Kato. I've owned a '13 Streety and found it a little polite for my tastes. Cheers fella's. Much appreciated :)
There are no bad bikes only better bikes. I have never yet had my rev limiter shout at me on my Triumph. Reliability and dealer network lets KTM down but they should have let the Japanese build them.
have the duke 890 and like MCN said in one of his videos its kind of a one trick pony......wants to be turning and gas twisted.....it will cruise quite easily and smoothly but can tell its not happy doing it.....like a child that obeys becasue it got caught doing something wrong but is just waiting to go do the bad deed again when coast is clear.......triumph is probably the bike i should have got for what i do but ill hang in there with it and get the ergonomics suited.....spend more time to get better aquainted.......actually thought it would be faster than it is ( though its plenty to get me in trouble).....as first street bike i thought it would rip my arms off uncontrollably but its manageable with solid throttle hand here the triple RS is more than the duke 890 r.....12.5k for ktm and 13.3k for triple rs, but with tech pack added to KTM its only couple hundred less than triumph.....so options being the same they are pretty much same price......sure it changes worldwide if triumph was 1 or 2k cheaper than KTM i probably would have got one over the duke..... funny thing is i dont see either of these bikes on the road near me...

I'm on my second 765 RS. Had a tuono factory in between, which was glorious but like driving a ferrari to work each day. Looked at other middleweights but they were all just too flawed . The ktm has reliability/quality issues. The mt09 sp has fuelling/throttle issues and looks like it was designed to be ugly.
You should get a kawi z900 man i have one too. Its such a good and complete bike, no reliability issues and very stable on the highway with high speeds. Also its a head turner😁

For anything involving bumps the KTM is better with its 140mm fork travel and you can really feel it.

considering the fact that the Ktm had less performance oriented tires (by far) on your test, the result was impressive!
They should put the power cup 2 on the KTM, or atleast put the same tyres on both bikes

Nice one. Interestingly the KTM is a fraction cheaper in Australia, only by a few $100’s… 👍😎🇦🇺
I’ve actually just checked new prices for each and the RS is actually over 1000 AUD more expensive.
3% HP loss for every 1000ft of elevation, but perhaps 1 HP loss for every year over 40 years of age might be more applicable here :-)

Yes I don't trust anything made in china
On street circuits around town chuck ability and weight that KTM would be hard to beat. Canyon carving in the hands of the average punter?
You mean to say, buy the YAMAHA MT09 SP? OK.
love bouth but ktm is more fun to ride. Heard from many reviews.
6th gear on this and most KTMs is an OVERDRIVE ratio. Put it the BEST gear to rip form both bikes from the projected speed.
What helmet was Don wearing? Looks really cool.

Mt09 sp not good enough?
I think in a real world test the KTM would win because it would dump oil all over the track causing the Triumph to crash.
