KTM is KILLING it lately. Holy cow these machines are works of art. I have a 2014 KTM Duke and a 2013 EXC-F for offroad fun and they feel like antiques looking at these new bikes. Just wow.
Damn I am dreaming about an EXC bike for ever. Enduro is so freaking fun but my problem is the day has only 24h . So not much time for enduro tho. Do you ride more street or enduro?
I am Bikes salesman and sell KTMs amongs other things. For two years now i thought the 790 Duke is by far best in class. When KTm anounced that 890 R i though "Thats a bit overkill for the Casuals" - Turns out this is the naked Bike nobody knew was possible and that they need it-
In order for launch control to work, you have to have it at level 5 or higher slip. You hold throttle all the way open and gently but smoothly let the clutch lever out. The engine and tires must be fully warmed up before you attempt to launch it though.
Nice review :) Always love your vlogs, keep them coming please :) But read the manual about how the launch control works... It's a bit more like an MX start, keep it 70% throttle and just gently release the clutch, open throttle to full and shift, shift shift. Launch control prevents wheel spin, wheelying. Tried it on my 790 and you get catapulted like a bullet. I get your point about the quickshifter, took me some time as well when I first used it on a supermoto. In mx you just feather the clutch slightly with the throttle open and shift up. The Duke also has downwards quickshifting, never used it, in supermoto it's brake hard, shift two or three gears back and release the clutch to get some real engine braking for backin'in the rear wheel, the slippercluth should prevent it from locking. I found the slipperclutch on these bikes a bit less subtile than the adler clutches I used on the SXF. Can't wait to see you on the 1290, I guess that's the ultimate wheelie bike, it pops wheelies even at insane high speeds.
Quickshifter: Stop snapping your throttle hand. Open throttle and hold it. Flick the toe shifter when you need to shift. Basically allows you to ignore the clutch and throttle when you shift.
suspension is everything.....if you have it USE it!......learn what each one does and just go back to stock if you get lost......it can completely transform a machine i just write down the adjustments i did and what i felt......start with rear first....cant stress this enough and not only is it easy to do its FREE!...... and I am picking this bike up in 2 days.....got the R for suspension, brakes, damper, and tires.....well worth 1k extra over the std version.....cant wait to ride it
KTM machines are Beast in there own segment... The only reason they r beast because.. there machine power will higher for the weight of the bike... Tats only KTM can make it.. nyc vlog man.. keep rocking it

I have a monster 821 with all the nice parts on it except the suspension which sucks. I now use in at the track and regret not getting the adjustable one. Already went to the ktm dealership to check the 890 out hahaha. Awesome videos

If you brake later and harder coming into the corner you would improve times even further. Seemed you started braking a little early but I'm sure it will get better as you ride it more. Those brembos are amazing

Those three bikes are actually my current line up. Well--'19 Gt--traded in a SDR 2017 for it. This GT does that and the others do different stuff. All do fun--GT even with pillion. I'll be getting the new v.3 GT next year and may decide whichONE of the other two little bikes to keep.
Isn't the launch control more effective, when you open the throttle 100% before launch ? You wait for the start sign ( whatever that is ) and then open the throttle ( = too late , I think this is why it started the wheelie ) You should give the Superduke a try as well, you'll love it !
This will definately be my next bike (upgrading from a Gladius 650). I was really digging the MT09... thinking the parallel twin on the 790/890 Duke would sound like crap (like the Honda CB500) but damn it sounds like a V-twin, looks awesome, has tons of features to help you push the bike safer. Supersports are out of my league for now (that and the 1700$ yearly registration in Quebec) but these new super-naked's are MENTAL as you say
What exactly is new on the electronics package? It's the same Bosch unit, Supermoto mode, antiwheely, quickshifter, cornering abs, everything was already in the 790. The only different thing is that it was included in the 790 and cost extra on the 890R. In germany you can get a new 790 for 9000 Euro and the 890 with the same specs for 13000. 4000 difference for an updated engine, brembo brakes and an adjustable suspension. No Deal!
I believe it also has cornering traction control. It could have helped me a few months back on the 790. The cost of the extra parts makes the price difference, but I agree I'd not spend the money to replace the 790.
try to get ducati monster 821, it have better brakes and traction controll, no supermoto mode needed, you can brake and accelerate like in motogp, while 1 wheel is in the air a bit, also engine is awesome, but ducati parts are more expensive :/ some technical solutions are bad like battery in front of rear wheel where it's hard to get and massive exhaust on right side where you can cook your leg ))
Hi, where do I get the racing front light cover you have installed on your 790? I was looking for something like that for a long time.. I could not find it on your website?! And it's so good to see you are actually also a human being.. struggling with quickshifter throttle blipping and full throttle launch control.. I tried and failed myself on the launch control, but I do feel better now seeing it's tricky even for you.. : )
Hey ROK. LOVED THE VIDEO! so the lap time was faster but which bike do you think corners faster the 390 Or 890 , was it just the extra power accelerating and top speed on the straights?
On the tight course like on ours both 390 and 890 corner at the same level but if the track would be more open I think the 890 would be way faster then the 390 ;)

you need to hold the gas (at high rpm not limit) when screen already shows the bike is ready set into launch control you can close the clutch later

get the mt09 sp it wont break down like the duke and has proper suspension

You need to open the throttle when you do launch control, and keep it open when you shift up the gear. Practice more💨
