Candymonium Vs. Orion - Which One Is Better?

- Because of the pandemic, we only saw 3 major coaster additions in 2020, well 4 if you count West Coast Racers. Of those three new coasters, two were built by B&M. Candymonium, a hyper coaster, and Orion, a giga coaster (not a hyper). Since I have been fortunate enough to ride both of these new coasters, many of my followers have been asking for a ride comparison. I am excited to pit these two amazing attractions against each other and see which one comes out on top.

@@XscreamThrills first off I wanna say that I know this took a lot of time and I don't wanna take away any credibility from your work. But when would a hyper ever beat a giga? There's no real bad gigas out there (you would know better than me cause Ive never ridden one and my credit count is super low)
Im assuming many would prefer a hyper over Steel Dragon 2000. Even I would prefer a couple hyper coasters over Millennium Force, it's all about your own personal preference. I305 is super intense and some don't like that, meaning yet again a hyper coaster could be ranked higher.
Got to ride Candymonium 10x yesterday! It’s so good - I’m normally a back-row die hard, but riding CM up front was a game changer! I definitely think the airtime is better in the final half of the ride up front, and nothing beats looking down that drop. It’s so well paced, the layout is smooth and the speed never lets up. The interaction with the Kisses fountain and the crowds at the front gate is one of my favorite coaster experiences ever, and you feel some mist on your face! Got 5 rides in the first 2 rows, five in the back 2. Highlight of the past 4 months for sure, and I’m so glad Hershey has this in the lineup as their premiere coaster. It’s really stellar.
Candymonium is a big boy ride and it’s name makes me think of hyper coaster because you can get hyper over candy
Ill get on these in about a month, I think I'll like Candymonium better but will have to see

I’ve ridden both multiple times. I do agree with most of the points, but for me the airtime and smoothness makes Candymonium the better ride.

Candymonium is just visually stunning and picturesque. But again, so is Orion. Hershey and King's Island are probably very proud of their shiny new toys 🎢
I can't wait to decide for myself this coming week. The storms have caused me to rearrange the trip entirely. Kings Island, then work around to Hershey and back. If you're planning to be at Kennywood on August 8th, I'll be there.

@@BruinPhD2009 I'm slowly getting my videos posted from that trip. Still need to post Knoebels, Hershey, & Kennywood. In summary, I like Orion more than Candymonium. I may even like it more than Fury. Ravine Flyer II was my favorite new credit from the trip, having been to Cedar Point before.
Idk what you guys are talking about, I’ve ridden all three b&m at KI countless times ( besides Orion ) and I rarely notice a rattle on any of them.
Brady Zollars yeah same idk why people keep saying that. The only noticeable one was banshee for me
Gotten to ride all the B&Ms at KI, and only Banshee has a rattle. Even then, if you ride in the front two rows its not noticeable
I’m honestly getting tired of watching videos because that’s all these coaster people talk about. I rode all three probably about 50 times total this year and it’s not even close to rough and the rattle I experienced is a slight discomfort at best 🤦🏻♂️. If at all.

I went to Hersheypark last weekend, and I went in beforehand thinking that Candymonium wouldn't be that exciting. It's a B&M after all (I love my Intamins), and I figured the park was looking for something a whole lot tamer than Skyrush. Before I entered the parking lot, I also figured that it had a relatively short layout too. Well, after an hour-and-a half to two-hour wait last Saturday (the park was pretty busy, which is obviously good for Hershey) I boarded the back row, and that was recommended by a fellow coaster enthusiast I talked to while waiting in line. Holy crap is Candymonium amazing! There are many moments of sustained airtime that I was not expecting. One of my enthusiasts Facebook friends has called it a Northern Mako (haven't experienced it yet). There were two more categories of comparison that I felt you left out of your review. The first is lockers. Candy features complimentary lockers. I was in shock when the line attendant told me that. Skyrush also features complimentary lockers, which I think is new for this year (last year, I didn't have any loose articles with me). I haven't ridden Orion, but you have. The second is t-shirts. Candy only had one design, and to me, it was fairly ugly. I don't do tie dye or anything close to it, so hopefully they'll get some new designs next year. I would think that Orion would have the upper hand in this category since it's a Cedar Fair park. When I went to Cedar Point two years ago, it seemed like some attractions had like twenty different t-shirts or so. Seriously, it's out of control there. There must have been like three-hundred different designs to buy either with a rides name on it, or promoting Cedar Point.
Today, August 3 of 2020, I went to kings Island, no line in Orion, got to do it 10 times. Literally, you got off and just had to walk in, clime the stairs and ride it again. I only stop, because I was hungry.

I want to ride both to really feel each coaster out but from video, Orion seems to have a more varied track layout than Candymonium. When I safely leave California without quarantining for two weeks, I'll get out and ride them
Orion doesn’t have a wait at all!! Kings island ride ops have been dispatching sooo quickly!! Also how many times did you get on orion? Morning ride versus night ride is quite a difference. I got front and back at both times the other day

Because one is a hyper and one is a giga also a lot of people are gonna go for the taller and faster and leave the smaller ride behind their backs
You have to be a coaster enthusiast to really see beyond the stats and really appreciate the other factors like theming and airtime.
Candymonium made a good fight against Orion. Candymonium and Orion are tall rides but Candymonium made Orion worry a little bit

Its insane that there is a debate about this he even tried to make an argument the drops were comparable like stop it a 210 foot drop vs a 300 foot drop at an 85 degree angle.

Sedric Granger it’s ridiculous no ones doing a debate with candymonium and Millennium Force or Leviathan, Fury only Orion because it’s ONLY 287 feet tall which is already taller than most coasters it goes higher than the top deck of the Effie tower and drops 300 feet into a valley and that’s not good enough.

For me Candymonium has the edge. It was just pure fun. Orion is amazing, but Candy has a few tricks up its sleeve.

Candymonium looks like an airtime machine, but also looks like it lacks pacing. Orion has fantastic pacing but it looks like it has very few airtime moments (a good contrast to diamondback) and is too short. Edit: I realised I was watching hersheypark's POV!!!

Just a heads up, while Hersheypark was founded by Milton Hershey and the park partners heavily with The Hershey Company that makes chocolates, the park is not owned by the candy company. Nor are they owned by a common parent company. So unfortunately Hersheypark is not actually owned by a candy company.

@@XscreamThrills I used to think the same thing. I mean, it kind of seems like they are the same company. Milton Hershey started the park as a carnival of sorts for his factory workers but it was owned not as a subsidiary of his chocolate company but as a separate property venture. It's now part of Hershey Resorts and Entertainment. The two companies' histories are obviously intermingled and they partner heavily for that reason (and because they share the name Hershey and are located in freakin' Hershey, Pennsylvania.)
It makes me think about the relationship between Busch Gardens and the Anheuser-Busch company. Except, the beer company actually DID originally own and operate the theme parks but sold them to SeaWorld and now just partners with them.
I want to see more random companies have their own theme park (or at least a partnered park.) Heck, we all know that Marriot dabbled in the theme park business which led to a super confusing Great America scenario that spans the Cedar Fair and Six Flags divide. We should have a theme park operated by Apple or Microsoft. And how does McDonalds not have a theme park?

It’s not really a fair comparison, but I understand why the video was made. A lot of people will want to know, which one to ride first. This kind of video helps to make up people’s minds. When I look at both the one big mistake on either coaster to me, is Orion’s first hill after the first drop. It turns on its side which will decrease its airtime. If it was just left as an airtime hill it would be much better in my opinion

I assume you're asking why Orion is classified as a Giga. Its because of its drop. Its approximately, 300 feet (91 Meters). There are two metrics to take into consideration for ride classification 1.) overall height, and 2.) height/length of the drop. Hyper's classification require an overall height OR a drop within the ranges of 200-299 feet or 60-90 Meters. While Giga's classification are within the range of 300-399 feet or 91-121 Meters, on overall height OR drop.
For Example;
1.)Apollo's Chariot in Busch Gardens Williamsburg has an overall height of 170 feet (52 Meters) BUT a drop of 210 feet (64 Meters) classifying it as a Hyper due to its drop being with in the hyper classification range
2.)Orion has a height of 287 feet (87 Meters) BUT a drop of 300 feet (91 Meters). Thus classifying it as a Giga. As Orion meets 1 of the 2 requirements for said classification.
BUT if you want to be technical about it, B&M does NOT distinguish these (Hypers and Gigas) as different models. There are the same according to B&M and in fact the term "Hyper Coaster" and "Giga Coaster" are just made up terms for marketing purposes. Cedar Point coined the terms on Magnum XL 200's opening and then again on Millennium Forces opening.

Old channel that would be sweet. I got to admit it’s pretty frustrating Knotts carries the chain in attendance but doesnt get a thrill coaster as often as the other major parks. I’m sure CGA will get up to Knott’s attendance level when you guys get a couple more major coasters. Railblazer absolutely slaps.

Orion gets too much hate and candymonium gets way to much hype this is like comparing JV to varsity . Its like enthusiasts have a mob of what coasters they hate and like. Orion is literally in upgraded canymonium its 100 feet taller has a turnaround thats about as tall as candymonium its self has the same trains and resistant and track design plus about 15 miles faster with a steeper drop. It even has a speed hill following a 200 foot tall turnaround like how is this a debate?

No one cares about a "Rattle" or a "Vibration" that you cant even feel, i know your an minor orion hater clearly, and orion is as smooth as glass, so is EVERY B&M IN THE PARK, they are all smooth
