Candymonium Review - Hersheypark (Hershey, PA) Bolliger & Mabillard Hyper Coaster

- As of right now, in the United States, there have only been three major roller coasters to open up this year, and the way things are shaping up, I expect it to remain that way. Fortunately, as of the release of this video, I have ridden two of the new additions for 2020: Orion, a B&M Giga located at Kings Island, and the star of today’s video, Candymonium, a B&M hyper located at Hersheypark.
Standing 210ft tall, Candymonium is the tallest roller coaster at Hersheypark, barely beating Skyrush. With 46 hundred feet of track, Candymonium is one of the shorter hyper coasters, but still a thousand feet longer than Skyrush. Before diving into my review, I think the one major question many coaster enthusiasts, or fans of Hershey have on their mind, is why another hyper coaster? Skyrush is a pretty good hyper coaster, so why build another one? Well, I plan on tackling that question in this review, so let's get to it!

True, chocolatetown needs WAYYYYY more trees.
They'll probably plant some in the near future.
I’m sure they already planted some, but it’ll take a few years for them to grow in
I can safely say this ride looks good enough to eat
Ikr looks like chocolate 🍫 😋
It is fun I was just there
🙄
Skyrush and Candymonium are so different. I see exactly why they put in a B&M hyper. Plus they can advertise it as the tallest + longest ride in the park.
Very similar advertising to Orion...
XscreamThrills speaking of Orion, you should do Orion vs Candymonium.
Coming next week 👍
XscreamThrills Ayyy, nice one! Can’t wait to see that!
I think us enthusiasts forget GP don’t care or know specific stats / manufacturers, and take the ride for what it is. As we probably should try to again!
This airtime even with the trims is still very strong
The element at 8:55 reminds me of a Hershey kiss.
I rode Candymonium on July 2, 2020- within the 1st few days of operation. I am a Season Pass holder, rode it 2x- once in the middle once in the back row. It is definitely a thrilling coaster ride and SMOOTH! I did notice a bit more airtime in the back- Much more than Skyrush. I actually rode that earlier in the day and am still wondering after 10+ times overall how you do not fall out on Skyrush. I felt that Candymonium is still thrilling but less intense. An overall thrilling, smooth coaster ride. I also give Candymonium a 9 out of 10 overall. Can't wait to go on it again in a couple of weeks or so. Once the overall Chocolatetown area where this is located, in the front is completed with trees, Kiss fountain, landscaping, etc.- this overall experience will be very memorable every time you ride it.
I was counting 6 seconds of airtime on the first camelback. I hardly got trimmed and had nutty air on the rest of the ride each time I lapped it.
I went on Candymonium today for the first time. Actually, it was my first time at Hersheypark since 2006. I rode it 5X.
The airtime is insane. Glad to say that I rode this ride today.
I rode it twice in one day , loved it
“Skyrush is a pretty good hyper”
People disliked that.
The track looks so delicious I honestly want to eat it
That near miss is so cool and fun
Thank you for the wonderful review😀 if I had to rank my coasters right now at Hersheypark, not counting storm runner because it’s closed for the season, I would put Skyrush #1 & Candymonium #2. I’ve ridden it probably @15 times so far. The amount of time you are out of your seat is amazing. It’s just incredible👍🏻
Thank you so much!!! I’m going this week and I heard the ride was great. I needed to make sure it was good!.
Have fun!
XscreamThrills Thank you, I will!!!
Candy Monium is amazinggggggggggg
So smooth
Thanks for your review. I look forward to riding it at the beginning of August. That first airtime hill sounds very similar to the one on Mako, which is one of my favorite airtime moments on any coaster.
Awesome, in depth review.
Thanks!
Was there with the family on 7/14 and Candymonium was nice and I kept my eyes open for the first big drop but then closed it most of the way since I started getting an immediate headache with the G forces and the mrs getting a headache herself and adding to my headache with her yelling. My son and daughter opted out on getting on. I did like the ride but my favorite is the Great Bear and Storm runner but the storm runner is closed for the season. Social distance and limiting the amount of people to the park made the wait lines very bearable .
Storm Runner is a great ride. It's a shame it's not open this year 😥
Oh hey I’m early! I’ve seen the on ride footage for this! Good video 👍
Btw it’s my birthdayyyyyy
Happy birthday!
XscreamThrills Thank you so much ☺️
I rode Candymonium last weekend and I loved it! I got a total of 10 rides and it’s my new favorite ride at Hersheypark!
Great video Derrick! I agree with you 100% this is such a good addition for them! See you soon bro!
Coming to Kennywood this year?
Hi
I’m going to the park later this month can’t wait
I totally agree, I felt the rattle in the back too. This was my first b&m hyper and at first I was under whelmed but, I would give it a solid 8. I was able to get 4 rides on it.
It looks great
At the beginning, I think you forgot that Texas Stingray opened on time.
we got the arm cameo, hell yea
Already been on it 15 times this season I love it
It's a great coaster!
Candymonium - Hyper coaster. Candy - makes you hyper
Rode this today, I passed out lol
Wait until you go on Skyrush though 😶
When Hersheypark announced the name for *skyrush* I said "what a stupid name for a coaster at Hersheypark. Was the theming department on vacation?"
Skyrush is quickly becoming *not family friendly* and for a theme park in the "family friendly" business..... that's an issue.
Every really good coaster feels like it is a mile too short.
Exactly, that’s why I feel they added this coaster even though they have Skyrush already. They needed a massive thrill coaster that was still rideable for the whole family. I love this coaster. I can’t wait to get back and ride it again.
Looks like it gives Mako a good run for its money!
Am I the only “enthusiast” that doesn’t differentiate between “types” of airtime?
LOL, its fun to differentiate when I'm reviewing, but with so many terms and definitions, airtime is airtime!
I'm going on it tomorrow!
I’m going tomorrow, would you recommend a front row or back row ride?
Back row
i need to ride this. i recently rode nitro & that was my first b&m hyper and now im ready to ride the other ones
I rode Skyrush twice the other day I sat a little farther back and I got that crushing feeling but my second time I sat closer to the lap bar and the crushing was not noticeable
I noticed that taking a middle seat is more comfortable on the thighs than the wing seats.
i went on that ride the other day while i was there and it is intense
Shine in 2021?? Also in this fall
We need to make a sliding scale of different types of airtime for consistency.
I mean, they're all "made up" terms anyways.
@@XscreamThrills Well most things are arbitrary and made up
I have to go to Hershey Park now! Solid coaster lineup and from what I hear it's beautiful.... nevermind storm runners closed for the year 🤬
Yeah, Storm Runner really seals the deal as a park with one of the coaster lineups!
What amusement parks out there have a better top 6 roller coasters than Hersheypark
Rode it at night after a rain storm. It hauled through the layout
I'm going to Hershy soon and I don't know what to go to when the park opens. Candymonium or Skyrush?
Do skyrush first, Candymonium a little later when the line dies down
Yeah, I would suggest doing Skyrush first and then doing Candymonium.
My recent rides on this have been much better than the rides during the first 2 weeks. Most of my rides were barely trimmed on the 2nd airtime hill which made the ride much better imo.
I went back on April 30th and I had a more airtime filled ride then my first experience back in 2020 on this coaster
Glad to hear, I really love Candymonium and more airtime is only a good thing!
Did I see you at Hersheypark on Monday pushing a stroller? If it was you, I noticed you at the last second wearing an XscreamThrills shirt. I had a Lightning Rod hat and Dollywood shirt on. I was heading to Wildcat
That was me
@@XscreamThrills that's what I thought. I was gonna say hi but I wasn't sure lol
No worries, next time say hi 😉
Is candymonium better than mako?
The fountain was running Saturday the 18th
This and Mako feel so much different compared to the earlier B&M Hypers so it’s pretty hard for me to compare these two like Nitro, Diamondback and Intimidator
That near miss is very fun
Do you plan on reviewing Orion soon?
Review comes out next Monday
Would it be safe enough for a person with a height of 6"ft3"in and weight of 293lbs
As with every roller coaster, I recommend sitting in the test seat near the ride entrance.
Graceful ejector? That does not seem as good as violent ejector airtime, although I haven't experienced it. Still haven't been on a B&M hyper :(
It's not about being as good, it's different. Everyone has their preferences
Compare this to Nitro at Six Flags Great Adventure what’s better?
Candymonium
I need to go to the US here (netherlands) are vekoma coasters considert good coasters and the only b&m i have ridden are fenix (toverland) and baron 1898 in the werd efteling
I'm hoping to go to Hershey this month. I'm a bit of a coaster scardey cat, but this looks fun. What's a good coaster to start on there? Preferably one that's smooth?
Any middle seat will do fine
Like middle of the train or middle of the row?
Middle of the row
You said the station isn’t nothing special but it’s nicer than most stations in Hershey so you need to consider that as well
I'd agree with that statement. Its the best station at Hershey by far!
Candymonium is my 2nd favorite coaster, Skyrush 1st and Nitro is 3rd (El Toro wasn't open when I was there). In the back of Candymonium I got flung over the drop and had so much ejecter, it felt like the drop lasted for hours.
El toro will be your #1 once you get to ride it
@@kyleford2684 k
Lifter airtime has entered the chat
Came looking for this comment lol
Coaster Daddy yeah while I was watching the video, I was like oh no he really just referred to lifter as graceful ejector
@@ThemeParkHorizons I can't say anything. I haven't really adopted the term lifter for myself lol
We have
- Floater
- Ejector
- Lifter
- Gracefull Ejector
- Floajector
Nice, everyone is adding airtime names we are on 10 in a month!
@@timhulsen7385 ejected floater here we go
The only problem I have with this coaster was the trims. They were hitting hard and I went from “Yeah!” to “Oh...” 😆
The trims do hit hard
since hershey park build two hypers, i think its time for kings dominion to get themselves a b and m hyper, but with a special layout thats still family friendly, so it can help the park and be newer than apollos chariot
Possibly, it would be a nice addition to the park
What’s the third new coaster that opened?
Texas Stingray
I was going to get on CandyMonium But I had to use the Bathroom so I didn't get on. I plan on getting on it in a week for the next time I go. Even If I like Candymonium, The Great Bear will always be My Number 1 Favorite.
Clench those cheeks
Were the lines long?
Nope, never waited longer than 10min for Candymonium
I assume based on your comments here that you prefer Candymonium over Nitro but you should def do a Candymonium vs Nitro video!
That might be a video for 2021 :)
Do you like it better than Nitro or Mako?
Haven't been on Mako, but better than Nitro
Can we expect a video on Orion at Kings Island next?
Yes, next Monday
does it go upside down?
No
What was the third coaster again?
Texas Stingray
XscreamThrills Okay. Thanks.
Can you review Orion?
Review comes out Monday
Candymonium is da best there, but storm runner wasn’t open so that might’ve changed
Storm Runner is legit
Hersheypark is legit
XscreamThrills storm runner looks sick, but the thing that would hold it back for me is the length, it’s so short
What about skyrush
Steel vengeance fanboy u mean thighcrush
Hershey is a more Choclate version of SixFlags with just as good of rides
I would call the Airtime youare describing Floajector
Never been a fan of that term. I like graceful ejector
@@XscreamThrills that might be my preference for one-word-describtion
how does it compare to nitro
Candymonium is better because it provides more consistent rides
XscreamThrills I feel that. Candymonium looks like it has better airtime 👍
It really is a fun coaster & I loved it, but Skyrush still rules the park.
I might disagree, Skyrush is so inconsistent
My theory is that Hershey built Candymonium because they secretly know that the lifespan of skyrush is limited and they plan to shut it down within 5 yrs. all of that intensity was more than they bargained for and can’t be good for the maintenance of the ride.
There could be truth to this statement, but time will tell
Hershey in 5-10 could most likely get a Giga but 200ft and above is still a very tall coaster Hershey has some amazing coasters some of the best out there and maybe they could get a Giga in 5-10 60-80 percent chance of earlier or a bit later but most likely could happen eventually and the rides there will last a very long time and won’t get outdated for a very long time
I’m going in 2 days is candymonium a long line
When I was there on Monday, it was a walk on
Like a short line is what you mean because i want to know what time is best to get on
Thank
Is 11am when the park opens the best time
The rails scare me of how close they are to the other rails
I'm going to ride this soon it might be good but I already know I'll like skyrush better
You might be surprised
both trims hit pretty hard on both of my rides. F trim breaks!
Yeah they can be brutal!
I only notice that last one on the final airtime hill
Why are all rollercoaster videos unpopular?
At Hershey Park eating rn lol
I went on the 15th I wanted to see the fountain on so bad
Its pretty neat looking, but still a work in progress.
It's a stupid name, but you do make a good point at 1:31.
RIP storm runner
Millennium Force Man y u p
I think sky rush looks much better than this does. Candymonium looks like just another typical B&M hyper coaster. Orion, Goliath at over goeriga, Diamondback felt the exact same. The only difference is Orion was much taller and faster than the other 2 but the ride felt the same.
Wish it were a giga
Go to Knoebels if you want shade, lmao
Knoebels is great for shade since like all their rides are under the trees.
Candymonium is pretty long and a average length for a B&M Hyper
It just feels a lot shorter; I think it's because of that small section of track after the first brake run
@@XscreamThrills they had room for one more element but it’s good for what it is it’s worth a 2 hour wait for your first ride but I compared it to Orion and Orion is about the same duration from drop to brakes
I love your voice!
Thanks!
Do an Orian Review
That's next Monday 👍
I rode Orian and it’s nothing but plain fun and ok
Candymonium is not a family coaster its a Thrill ride all Hyper Coasters are ment to thrill
When people refer to a rattle or vibration on B&M's I personally have no ide what anyone is referring to. Keep in mind I ride Kumba at BGT more than probably anyone on the planet so my perception on this may be a little off :) .
Kumba was butter smooth the last time I rode it
@@XscreamThrills I never have a problem with it either, people just love to hate on it.
Great review. We have a lot of the same views on the ride and it's elements (except the name, lol). Love your work. Would love if you checked out my recently created site, We Were Inverted. I'd love to move into video reviews, but with a background in journalism, I'm working on mostly blogs right now. Take care and keep up the amazing work.
Candymonium is a average length for a Hyper Coaster.
You say Reese's wrong.
I say a lot of things wrong 😁
Hershey park is 100% a "theme park" lol
