Over the shoulder restraints on most rides automatically make me hate it unfortunately. I'm really, really sensitive to headaches and even light head banging causes a headache that lasts the whole day 😔. I rode the Jersey Devil for the first time yesterday, which is an RMC raptor with vest restraints. And it was super comfortable!!! So happy about that. The ride was amazing.
Vest restraints make me claustrophobic at the station but when the ride starts I don't feel them and it's great. Lap bars used to scare me but now I realize how good they are and now I love them on wooden coasters and also the Mack restraints

I recently rode new Mack in Korea, and the over head lap bar restraint and high-leveled seat gave me great freedom for my legs and overbody. Hands up for launch coaster was totally great.

B&M vests definitely aren’t comfy. literally any otsr? Lean forward. Vekoma vests are great, intamin soft “vests” (I don’t really consider them vests but that’s irrelevant) totally agree with you on the intamin t-bars and clamshells. RMC lap bars might seem big, but that doesn’t really matter because it distributes the forces more widely across your legs, which if you’ve ever ridden magnum, you know is a very good thing. Premiere comfort collars aren’t really vests because they aren’t tight on you unless you’re like 6’5”, and overhead lap bars are great (unless you get stapled on a Mack, which can hurt your groin)

I know a lot of people have said this already but……I also love vest restraints, I’ve ridden them on Railblazer and Batman (the free spin at sfdk). Railblazer fine, it’s at my HOME home park, so I have the freedom of going almost every other day and I just honestly don’t even care anymore, like maybe it’s because I don’t marathon very often but my shoulders never hurt, I still get more than enough airtime. And as for Batman, I love that feeling, I could fall asleep in them it’s so comfortable, I love getting stapled because I’ll just fly uncomfortably everywhere if I don’t. I’ve only ridden twice the first time I got ample room and just flew all over the place but I stapled my self the next time and it was great. Also i like only school B&M OTSRS, especially on inverts I don’t know why, it just makes me feel nostalgic I don’t really mind any coaster restraints
In my opinion, I love OTSR's connected to a seat belt, because it gives me a bit more room while being more safe, when it's only OTSR's, the bottom of the restraint hurts my thighs.
The first time I had a vest restraint was when I went on Wonder Woman: flight of courage at Six Flags Magic Mountain, and it was a little odd but I still got some decent airtime on the ride, especially with it also being my first time riding a single rail coaster. A few other unique restraints that I experienced at Six Flags Magic Mountain was the X2 restraint and The Riddlers Revenge restraint, a pretty good restraint and an absolutely horrible restraint that made me and my entire family agree to never go on it again. X2 has their restraint as a sort of over the shoulder height adjustable thing, where you close the orange restraints over your chest and torso, and then push down until it just about touches your shoulders, and it keeps you locked in very great, leaving most of your lower body to wiggle around which can be pretty intense. Now the restraints for The Riddlers Revenge... Require you to stand. Now I haven't gone on it since October 2023, the first time I went to Six Flags ever, and I plan for it to be the last time I go on it in my life. From what I remember, it's an over the shoulder that makes you stand up completely straight, your feet are just barely flat on the ground of the cart, and the operators will ensure this for your safety. Now, I was going through "my ladies days" when I went on this, so I had a "cotton stick" in that day, and this ride made sure to really shove it up in there, and both my brother and dad did not have an enjoyable experience. So yeah those are the few unique ones I have personally experienced.
I experienced all of those last year. Flight of Courage's restraints felt more comfortable than I thought, and X2's weren't bad either. I was able to get a comfortable setup on Riddler's Revenge but I know not everyone is able to get that so I definitely understand.
i have ridden a lot of no restraint coasters. coasters like these are quite popular in european fun funfairs which usually come in a layout of a figure eight or oval
One cool thing about my homepark Lagoon is we have a Schwarzkopf Jet Star 2. Lap sitting is required though, because the Rider closest to the front of the seat wears a seat belt, whilst the rider or two behind the front rider has their lap sat on as a restraint. So technically no restraints for most riders on a Jet Star coaster. Pretty awesome and spoiled experience to ride a rather intense ride for one where most times I've rode lately, it's been without any real restraint.
5:18 Superman got the U Bricks in 2009 the year they first retheme it to Bizarro actually because of the 2004 incident and Massachusetts State Law claims the T Bar restraints is too minimalistic for Superman and we’re forced to box all riders legs in more to prevent that accident again
I went on the six flags great america Viper, and they had a seatbelt with the buzz bar. I was riding with my mom and my sister, and as you said it dies have alot of airtime... so my sister FLOATED.
No, Viper has ratcheting lap bars on it's PTC trains, not buzz bars. In fact they appear to have gotten new PTCs. I was there in May and the trains look brand new. The ratcheting lap bars on Viper have a mechanism near the floor they're attached to that I cannot explain. I've never seen this on any other PTC train. The lap bars have springs that are so strong that they don't ratchet down during the ride unless you push them.
808CoasterLife Yeah, I’ve only ridden one but I thought it was very comfortable because normal lap bars sometimes staple you or sometimes go up way too far (for me at least) but that type usually stays in the same spot
Apparently lap bars can sometimes be knee crushing. It happens when you accidentally stick your knee out to the support beam smashing your knee. Happened to me today while riding on a ride. Im wondering if other people have experienced this before. 😢
My favorite restraint might have to be the one on lochness monster because im kinda small so when it gets pushed up I have like 3-4 inches of room and the airtime in the back is elite I just wish it wasn't as rough
I think the opposite happened for me lol. I rode Viper at Magic Mountain and the restraints rested almost perfectly on my shoulders. Airtime was kinda restricted but I didn’t have to worry about headbanging.
one time on maverick i got stapled so bad it felt like the blood circulation in my legs cut off and i could barely move my legs and it hurt so bad at the end.
In the park near me there is the first bnm wing coaster with the vest restraints and it's not very comfortable, while you are riding it gets tighter and at the end while you are waiting to unload, you really can't inhale a lot
Leap the Dips in Lakemont Park, Altoona, Pennsylvania Built in 1902. It is considered the oldest operating coaster in the world and of course no restraints!
Cons with seatbelts, at least for cheetah hunt is if you're a tight squeeze on that ride, and you don't unbuckle before the restraint releases, it gets stuck lol.
Banchee at King’s Island restraints make you feel so safe. Except they tighten while riding and my hips bleed every time. Word on f advice if you ever ride it, tighten just enough so you are safe, cuz as soon as you make it up the lift hill it’ll tighten for ya.
Vest restains are extremely comfy. I'd love for every coaster to have them Also the Fly coaster in Phantasialand has them, and you get all the air time! But thats mostly because you're dangling face down from the coaster
For seatbelts I think they should be there as a option but ride operators shouldn't buckle them unless their needed for a fit check because as you said wearing a seatbelt is a really high level of redundancy.
LOVE B & M clamshells - you can get them good and tight! Airtime is great - as long as you're locked in! Any comments about the RMC lap bars with no place to hold on? Just a bungee cord type thing? Referring to Wildcat's Revenge at Hershey. I am not a hands in the air and wish they had put some grips on the lap bar like B & M's clamshell.
I'm not really a fan of coasters or other thrilling rides; I like rides that are gentle. But on the topic of the safety restraints rides use, seat belts and standard lap bars are the ones I'm most familiar with
I’ve been meaning to ride Raging Bull at Great America, but my huge fear and anxiety for lap bars is rlly pulling me back from enjoying stuff comfortably :( I just can’t bring myself to do it cuz I just don’t feel safe at all
Ride Raging Bull when you’re ready, but just remember these lap bars are designed to keep you in your seat. As long as you meet the height requirements and you pull the restraint all the way down, you shouldn’t worry about falling out. Maybe ride Vioer or American Eagle before since those rides also have lap bars. Hope this helps at least a little :)
I think its often not so much about the type of restraint, and they all have their pros and cons, but the right restraint for the right ride. Over the shoulder restraints for example aren't popular on many rides, but you don't hear many complaints about them on B&M inverts or dive coasters. In both cases the dangling sensation of being secured at the top whilst your legs are free is a bit part of the experience. Tame but rough older coasters with ots restraints though can be awful. Basic lap bars often work best. On the subject of no restraints, although not coasters, log flumes typically lack them too. Since they aren't secured to the track at all they lack any airtime though, and although they do often have some lateral forces, you sit low in them so aren't going to the thrown out unless standing up. The last coaster I rode on had old school busbars, but that was a 1930s "scenic railway" (no side contact, no upstops, the the wheels on the rails), although especially at the back it definitely gave some airtime on the drops. Basic ratchet system too (with plenty of movement) released by a wheel contacting a wooden rail opposite the platform, which also meant that the restraints release before it stops. The most intense part of the ride though is the second drop as it's steeper than the first, and drops through the structure so you get a great head chopper effect too, and the pullout at the bottom gives quite a bit of force.
Rollo Coaster did have an accident and it no longer has that restraint. It was an operational error, but it now has PTC Ratcheting Lap Bars and seatbelts.
Intamin lap bar (new gen, as u said over the shoulder lap bar) is the best restrain cuz it give you a lot of freedom it giving you freedom on your entire upper body and also on your lower body you should rly try a coaster with them
It doesn't matter what your favorite type of restraint is because the more intense the ride, the more safe the restraint will be whether you like it or not.
Very late to the video, but.. I’d say I have mixed opinions about vest restraints. As a coaster enthusiast, I very much prefer lap bar restraints, especially the ones on Helix at Liseberg. I rode a dive coaster which used vest restraints, and it was very comfortable throughout the ride, even though I didn’t get any airtime it was still an awesome coaster, but they aren’t my favorite restraints. They at least make me feel the safest, but yeah. Also, if they put it down too tight it becomes hard to even breathe or move in the slightest, and it almost hurts, that’s probably what I REALLY dislike about them, but they’re still fine, imo.
@@808CoasterLife it was on the Cú Chulainn the largest wooden coaster in europe and the only with inversions. tones off air time and being tossed around
Dunno if I just got unlucky with my vest restraint experience- Batman at discovery kingdom, Wonder Woman at magic mountain and I think west coast racers at magic mountain might count? It might just be my height but every time they dig painfully into my collarbone and it’s just… stupidly uncomfortable. Maybe I just haven’t been on the right one? I dunno. Hope to see a vest restraint someday that accommodates for taller people lol.
I’m a little under 5’10” and some vest restraints were fine while others were digging into my collarbone. They definitely aren’t created equally. Hopefully you do find a vest restraint that fits you comfortably.
Then I suggest you try not doing that, so you can overcome your fear (the ride train would not be allowed to dispatch if the restraint wasn't fully in place and safe)
I love lap bars you feel safe but a little free and they just feel comfortable and might just be me rollercoasters with lapbars are the best rollercoasters like steel vengeance or even maverick I think I haven't been to cedar point going next year
I have a restraint! It is found on Disney world and Shanghai Disneyland and it’s tron lightcycle run or power run and it has the back restraint and the leg restraint
b&m Vests restraints stinks. Atleast on Yukon striker (and I assume valravn) when it drops it staples you and when you’re waiting in the break run it crushes your waist, idk if this happens on wing coasters and banshee tho. Have ridden a flyer and they were fine however

I like lap bars a lot, but the clamshell restraints are definitely my favorite
i have ridden a lot of no restraint coasters. coasters like these are quite popular in european fun funfairs which usually come in a layout of a figure eight or oval
that intro is fire
One cool thing about my homepark Lagoon is we have a Schwarzkopf Jet Star 2. Lap sitting is required though, because the Rider closest to the front of the seat wears a seat belt, whilst the rider or two behind the front rider has their lap sat on as a restraint. So technically no restraints for most riders on a Jet Star coaster. Pretty awesome and spoiled experience to ride a rather intense ride for one where most times I've rode lately, it's been without any real restraint.
I like the B&M restraints they’re usually the most comfy
Stand up Coaster restraints 💀
@@vincugamesGGs
5:18 Superman got the U Bricks in 2009 the year they first retheme it to Bizarro actually because of the 2004 incident and Massachusetts State Law claims the T Bar restraints is too minimalistic for Superman and we’re forced to box all riders legs in more to prevent that accident again
I really like b&m over the shoulder restraints
B&M Clamshell’s r the best!
I went on the six flags great america Viper, and they had a seatbelt with the buzz bar. I was riding with my mom and my sister, and as you said it dies have alot of airtime... so my sister FLOATED.
I rode a ride with a similar setup and the buzz bars definitely make the airtime feel stronger than it really is
No, Viper has ratcheting lap bars on it's PTC trains, not buzz bars.
I like over head lap bars the most because
they feel safer than normal lap bars, they still give you airtime, and they look pretty cool
Having not ridden any ride with those over the head lap bars, I do think they look to be the best modern restraint type out there.
808CoasterLife Yeah, I’ve only ridden one but I thought it was very comfortable because normal lap bars sometimes staple you or sometimes go up way too far (for me at least) but that type usually stays in the same spot
I really want to try a Mack rides xtreme spinner
Yh I like those too, and I also the lapbars that curve around your body, like the ones on Mumbo Jumbo at Flamingo Land and Rush at Thorpe Park.
I love the Mack lapbars
Apparently lap bars can sometimes be knee crushing. It happens when you accidentally stick your knee out to the support beam smashing your knee. Happened to me today while riding on a ride. Im wondering if other people have experienced this before. 😢
I can imagine that happening on certain T-bar restraints
Never had it happen
My favorite restraint might have to be the one on lochness monster because im kinda small so when it gets pushed up I have like 3-4 inches of room and the airtime in the back is elite I just wish it wasn't as rough
I think the opposite happened for me lol. I rode Viper at Magic Mountain and the restraints rested almost perfectly on my shoulders. Airtime was kinda restricted but I didn’t have to worry about headbanging.
@@808CoasterLife yeah I'm like 5'0 tall so the restraint didn't touch my shoulders the air time might have been better than appolos chariot ngl
one time on maverick i got stapled so bad it felt like the blood circulation in my legs cut off and i could barely move my legs and it hurt so bad at the end.
I absolutely love LAP BARS
Lap bar is king
If you live in Canada go to Canada wonder land the have vest restrains on the Yukon striker Canada wonder land is in vonehan Ontario
I definitely want to go there
Cons with seatbelts, at least for cheetah hunt is if you're a tight squeeze on that ride, and you don't unbuckle before the restraint releases, it gets stuck lol.
Yeah not all seatbelts are created equal.
I love b&m lapbars
Agreed!
Your content is awesome man! I live in Hawaii too !
Awesome!
Best: Over Shoulder Lapbars
Worst: Soft OSR/Comfort Collars
Banchee at King’s Island restraints make you feel so safe. Except they tighten while riding and my hips bleed every time. Word on f advice if you ever ride it, tighten just enough so you are safe, cuz as soon as you make it up the lift hill it’ll tighten for ya.
Good to know!
Vest restains are extremely comfy. I'd love for every coaster to have them
Also the Fly coaster in Phantasialand has them, and you get all the air time! But thats mostly because you're dangling face down from the coaster
Lap bars are easily king.
Fr tho. Espiccally the rmc ones
@@ScriftSZN rmc, b&m clamshells, tbars, I love the old gci ones
I like the restraints on CopperHead Strike at Carowinds?
For seatbelts I think they should be there as a option but ride operators shouldn't buckle them unless their needed for a fit check because as you said wearing a seatbelt is a really high level of redundancy.
You make a pretty good point!
Idk if I’m right but gold rush at six flags magic mountain has buzz bars and no seatbelt. No wonder I like the ride so much
I'm not really a fan of coasters or other thrilling rides; I like rides that are gentle. But on the topic of the safety restraints rides use, seat belts and standard lap bars are the ones I'm most familiar with
Gentle rides usually don't have overly secure restraints such as OTSRs or vest restraints so that makes sense.
@@808CoasterLife For me, the more gentle a ride is, the better 😉
I’ve been meaning to ride Raging Bull at Great America, but my huge fear and anxiety for lap bars is rlly pulling me back from enjoying stuff comfortably :(
I just can’t bring myself to do it cuz I just don’t feel safe at all
Ride Raging Bull when you’re ready, but just remember these lap bars are designed to keep you in your seat. As long as you meet the height requirements and you pull the restraint all the way down, you shouldn’t worry about falling out. Maybe ride Vioer or American Eagle before since those rides also have lap bars. Hope this helps at least a little :)
I never wore vest restraints so my fav for now is lap bars I love those so much
Vekoma's vest restraints feel a little weird so I definitely would prefer lap bars based on my experiences.
@@808CoasterLife nice
@@808CoasterLife and with lap bars I can feel ok but don’t feel that safe but there better than no restraints
Leap the dips also has no restraints. It's a wild ride in the back because you fly out of your seat even though it's only going 10mph.
Yeah I heard about that once this vid was posted. Still, thanks for letting me know!
What about accordion restraints? Like on Olympia looping, or great American triples loop at Indiana beach
I would imagine those are similar to OTSRs except with more shoulder pain and less room for airtime. What do you think?
I think they are more like comfort collers
Intamin lap bar (new gen, as u said over the shoulder lap bar) is the best restrain cuz it give you a lot of freedom it giving you freedom on your entire upper body and also on your lower body you should rly try a coaster with them
I would love to try a coaster with them!
@@808CoasterLife some ppl say the cons is that it's too confortable
2:01 the lap bars on iron gwazi feel like there crushing your legs
Went on hyperia yesterday and its made me fall in love with lapbars
I would assume it’s back up and running?
Such a good video! :)
Thank you!
Do you know the leviathan at canadas wonderland? Its my favourite coaster and i would love to see a review on it.
It looks awesome! Probably the best in the park. Idk when I’d be in the area but if I am I’ll definitely take a visit!
It doesn't matter what your favorite type of restraint is because the more intense the ride, the more safe the restraint will be whether you like it or not.
Lap bars, over the shoulder lap bars, otsrs and vests are all the same safety. So you would enjoy a ride more if it had your preferred restraint type
@@AirtimeAxolotl :/
The worst restraints are over the shoulder restraints. All they do is cause pain and make the ride unenjoyable.
Can see where you're coming from. Rough rides with OTSRs don't result in a good experience.
I went on a inverting coaster with a lap bar. more freedom than over the shoulder
Inversions are great with lap bars
@@808CoasterLife it was on the Cú Chulainn the largest wooden coaster in europe and the only with inversions. tones off air time and being tossed around
@@teaganscott3928 Wildfire in Kolmarden, Sweden, is a taller wooden coaster and also has inversions
I dont like over the shoulder they always feel a alot loose on me every time i go on one i have to hold down on myself.
Then I suggest you try not doing that, so you can overcome your fear (the ride train would not be allowed to dispatch if the restraint wasn't fully in place and safe)
Shoutout to the butterfly restraints on X2
I love lap bars you feel safe but a little free and they just feel comfortable and might just be me rollercoasters with lapbars are the best rollercoasters like steel vengeance or even maverick I think I haven't been to cedar point going next year
Can't forget the Zamperla Volare 😍😍 everyone's favourite restraints
💀
I have a restraint! It is found on Disney world and Shanghai Disneyland and it’s tron lightcycle run or power run and it has the back restraint and the leg restraint
Yes they’re very niche restraints. They were pretty comfortable when I rode one similar to Tron but made it a little hard to breathe.
b&m Vests restraints stinks. Atleast on Yukon striker (and I assume valravn) when it drops it staples you and when you’re waiting in the break run it crushes your waist, idk if this happens on wing coasters and banshee tho. Have ridden a flyer and they were fine however
