I have never had any pain with the newer B&M vest restraints, I personally find them incredibly comfortable. I can see how they can hinder airtime on dive coasters but on winged and inverted coasters, I think they are definitely more comfortable than the old B&M over the shoulder restraints. As someone who isn't very tall, I get a lot of head baning on coasters like raptor at Cedar Point. Banshee is actually one of my favorite coasters and I have never personally gotten stapled on it.
I have never had a problem with them either. I also can get a lot of headbanging with their ORSR, especially on Raptor. Wing coasters & flyers would be guaranteed constant headbanging if not for the vest restraints. On the dive coasters with vest restraints, if you don't staple yourself, you will still get good airtime. Most people tend to staple themselves without realizing it.
I've definitely been stapled on a B&M hyper, but it is by far the best type of restraint to be stapled with. Personally, it doesn't take too much away.
Restraints really can make or break a ride. Take Storm Runner for example. It used to have those hard plastic over the shoulder restraints, and back then, it was just a pain machine. Then, they put on those vest restraints, and it's amazing now.
Lol - I’m getting back into roller coasters as I’m losing weight and Skyrush was the first major coaster I was able to go on. The restraints people hate are sometimes the best ones for bigger people
What's weird with Skyrush's restraints is that I've gotten wildly different experiences each time I've ridden. Last time I rode it in the front row (non-wing) I felt absolutely nothing on my legs, but the first time I ever rode it (second-to-last row, wing seat) I was grimacing on the break run. I still love Skyrush overall but man I wish Hershey would invest a little in some new restraints.
I've never had a comfortable ride on Skyrush. I've ridden twice but I won't ride again, not only for the restraints but the darn thing gives me a headache.
@@BOI91 The airtime is way too aggressive on Skyrush for a t bar. They should fit it with the same restraints on Flying Aces at Ferrari World ive heard those are improved over Skyrush's lapbars.

No wonder why they call it Thigh Crush instead of Skyrush. The more minimal the restraint the better the ride experience. Buzz bars for mild rides, loose lap bars for moderate rides, and comfortably snug but, loose enough for airtime lap bars for intense rides. For intense rides where torsos are prone to fall forward, a vest restraint with the vest straps feeling weightless and the lap bar being comfortably snug while allowing ample room for airtime and preventing your torso from falling forward, or just go with soft or semi-soft horse collar OTSRs.
Totally agree with how much restraints make or break a coaster. Steel Eel is only good cause I’m small and the lap bar is small but Wave Breaker and Freespins make me cringe before I ride it because of you know what
Miss the beast at King's island having the buzz bars. It was easier to be comfortable with how rough it is giving you space to move around in your seat. But it's why it says "do not stand up" at the top of the lift hills because as kids,... We did. 🙃
I’m neutral on the B and M over the shoulder restraints. They’re fine on smoother rides like Talon but hurt like hell on something like Firebird. El Torro has fantastic restraints as long as you get room which I did the one and only time I got on it. I was playing with the seatbelt the whole way up debating how loose I wanted it. I was practically standing on some of those hills. I also like the restraints on Superman Ride of Steel. Not a fan of the grab handle restraints on Twisted Timbers. Too restrictive and they kinda hurt ur legs if u do get room. Oh and of course gotta love the clam shell restraints.
As someone on the heavier side, having restraints that don't pinch but are secure is so important. Seatbelt/lap belt combos have been a favorite of mine as I don't have to worry about an over the shoulder or vest binding my chest. This makes the combo so good because I can enjoy good airtime in coasters without loops while feeling secure but not like I'm squeezing in. Damn, now I'm missing the Jaguar at Knott's Berry. There's nothing wrong with the Intamin T-Bars but they definitely feel open and leave you exposed. It's only dangerous if you're bigger than the train was designed to handle, or if you are missing limbs. The coaster you mention actually did have an amputee fall out of it once, which is why parks have a rule about that
Finally had my first RMC experience on TC at SFMM and it was AWFUL, my thighs were absolutely crushed. The way you described your experience on Skyrush was my EXACT experience on TC. I’m willing to give it one more go and try your calf bar trick.
Honestly my take on restraints is that smooth or painful, I just like how fun and cool they are. The more creative the better. I like it when they're nice and secure as well, vests, shoulder harnesses. The freedom of a lap bar is nice, but shoulder restraints have a certain... something to them. Idk, roller coaster restraints are fun as heck.
First time I rode it. I got a ton of ejector airtime off the first hill. At the time I was maybe4'9" and weighed roughly 90lb. So the laobar on it's lowest setting didn't even come close. Man that coaster is sentimental to me
What? The maverick's restraints are comfortable as hell. How in the world are they bad at all? The B&M vests are also HANDS DOWN the best restraints. No discomfort at all and I LIKE feeling secured in the coaster. The hang time argument seems silly, I don't want to feel like I'm going to fall out.
The B&M vests are a quandary for me, because they're super comfortable when used on a Flying coaster, but they SUCK on everything else. RMC lapbars are fine, but they really need to figure out how to make them a little easier to open. Staple story: SFNE., Superman (then Bizzaro) R.O #1 pushed my bar down nice and tight. Like... no room at all, but still comfortable. Then, R.O. #2 came by and literally JUMPED UP OFF THE GROUND before shoving down on my lapbar with his whole body weight. It was my one and only ride on that coaster, and I was in pain the whole time.
I used to wonder why some people described coasters as painful that I thought were smooth and fine, but I think a lot of it is that I am a 5'11" man so I am basically the guy that most OTSRs are designed for. If I were any shorter my head would rattle around in the horsecollar every time there was a slightly janky transition.
I know it's not a roller coaster, but I LOVE the S&S Drop Tower restraints. The face that I can scoot forward when they check them, then once we lift up, I scoot back and have several inches of room. Then you get absolutely thrown upwards at the start of the drop. They are awesome.
Did you forget the God-awful headbanging cages of the dreaded Zamperla Volare? (Time Warp at Canada's Wonderland, Soarin' Eagle at Luna Park). That should be #1 worst on any list.
I'd say X2 is a hit or miss. I LOVE the restraints because I could always get air time. Tatsu also has amazing restraints. They are so comfortable, especially going into the bottom part of their massages pretzel loop. I never felt crushed, but rather, I remember how there was some give so the body could hug into the harness. The leg restraints I never had a probably with, either. Airtime Thrills, what say you about the X2 and Tatsu restraints?
Mystic Timber’s first drop is so insane in the back row I think the restraints should be a little more restrictive lmao, I gave myself a little too much room one time and thought I was gonna fly out
I think that the B&M vest restraints are very comfortable although the only ride with them I’ve been on is Galactica at Alton towers which was the ride that the vest restraints were specifically designed for as it was the Original B&M flyer. Also the lap bars on Thirteen (also at Alton towers) are really good and provide a nice pop of air time during the drop track section
When Superman: the Escape reopened as Superman: Escape From Krypton back in 2011, they included the same shoulder restraints that are on Kingda Ka. I thought the restraints were comfortable when I rode Superman back in 2011.
One of the most painful over the shoulder restraints I've ridden is X Flight at six flags great america 😭 the ride itself was AMAZING, but once we pulled into the station, the hip portion of it was so tight that my hips were being crushed 💀 it's happened both times I've ridden
One of my favorite restraints are Jack Rabbit's at Kennywood. A loose fitting seat belt with a fixed position bar in front that's more of a handle if anything.
I love the vest restraints on Thunderbird, and wing coasters like it. I don't find them to tighten while riding, but I do like the fact that they do sit close on you with a little give (being made of rubber). It makes it feel totally safe for the ride to keep you upside down for long periods of time, where many other restraints would feel unsafe when that happened.
After riding and RMC raptor I really like the over the shoulder restraints, and for most people it does it's job very well, make a person feel safe while riding, less stress inducing.
I’d choose the traditional B&M over the shoulder restraints instead of the vest restraints. The over the shoulder restraints really fit rides like the classic B&M inverts, they also have a more nostalgic feel than the best restraints.
I havent done any really bad restraints so far but my Favorites are: 1. New Intamin Blitz Restraint. These are Just insanely comfy. They don't come down that much during the ride unlike the very similar Mack restraints but the Ride op can easily staple you. But even if you're stapled they don't Hurt at all. 2. B&M Clamshells. From my experience its Impossible to get stapled with these. They are very comfy and provide great Airtime. Its also very easy to get some room 3. Mack Lapbars. Yes these come down easily but dont hurt at all. I Very much enjoyed them and If you hold them away they wont come down. 4. Intamin T-Bars. I think the T-Bars are a bit overrated. They feel Very free and are very small. But maybe thats their Problem. They start to hurt your knees because they apply all the pressure from the airtime on a small area on the knees unlike the Mack or Blitz Lapbars. I have only done them on Expedition GeForce and maybe they don't hurt as much on rides with less crazy Airtime 5. Millenium Flyer restraints. Just very comfy. They don't staple and its easy to get some room.
for some reason when he said just dont be an idiot and stand up during the ride, i laughed so hard, its the way he said it. great video and keep up the great work!!!
Let me add that I hate the standard PTC lap bar too. It tends to collapse into my lap almost immediately. It ruined all the airtime on The Voyage, for example. And I’ve come to like the Millennium Flyer lap bar, even through I wasn’t a fan at first.
I don't mind the B&M vest restraints. But I do really like the Mack's overhead lapbars like Time Traveler. Most of the new restraints are more accommodating for riders of different sizes.
I love the New Generation Intamin Lap Bar on their New multi launch coasters. I rode Taron roughly one year ago and instantly Fall in love with those comfortable restrains
I’ve never had any issues with arrow hyper restraints or PTC ones. Cedar point is my home park so I experience both quite a bit with magnum and blue streak and I’ve never had a stapling issue. I am a tiny woman tho so maybe that’s why.
i rode flight deck last night (vekoma slc) and i’m gonna be honest, it’s not as bad as i was expecting. yeah there was some head banging but i feel like if you sit towards the front of the train it’s actually pretty enjoyable.
I'm not sure how many people discovered this but I figured out on the B&M vest restraints that if you hold the straps that go over your shoulders with your thumbs and hold the metal bars on the restraint with the rest of your fingers it prevents the restraint from coming down any farther and allows you to have airtime.
16:37 Wow you actually got to go to Playland good for you. It’s one of the oldest amusement parks in Canada and Coaster is the country’s oldest roller coaster still in operation!
Comet at HersheyPark also has a seat belt along with the buzz bar. Not sure when they added the seatbelt, but it's been there as long as I can remember
One time, I was riding Skyrocket at Kennywood. It was almost closing, so they were rushing. I had about a foot of room, and the operator didn't even push down the room. I was holding on for my life because of how strong the airtime was. Such an underrated ride.
The only ride I’ve been mercilessly stapled on is T3. Otherwise, I have no issue being properly secured. Most airtime machines are still quite enjoyable without too much wiggle room in the restraints.
Velosicoaster has my favorite restraints, I have been on Xcellorator, raging Bull and other coaster with good restraints but I felt safe and comfortable on Velosicaoster’s.
The restraints on wicked at lagoon staple you soo much that when the ride is over you are left with pain in your lower stomach. They also have shin gaurds that are way to close and you hit your shins soo much it might leave bruises
In the case of the Orlando Icon Park death of March 24, would there have been any possibility of the OTSH flexing under the deceleration and weight of the rider, or perhaps the hydraulics being compressed if there were some air in the system? Which manufacturer was most to blame for this failure, Funtime Group, the ride builder; or Gerstlauer Amusement, which provided the seating system to Funtime?

If I were any shorter my head would rattle around in the horsecollar every time there was a slightly janky transition.
2:47 The weird thing is, Vekoma used them too on their MK-900 trains (without the padding) and they're really comfortable. Even if you have long legs.
Am I the only one that feels like they need to be stapled, because it makes me just feel safer.
Yes
Yes if you are a coaster enthusiast, not if you are GP
Get out. Now.
HiSpeedZ the country with the largest average penis size is the democratic republic of Congo, it sounds like a nice place
Only on old woodies that feel like they will break
I know it's not a roller coaster, but I LOVE the S&S Drop Tower restraints. The face that I can scoot forward when they check them, then once we lift up, I scoot back and have several inches of room. Then you get absolutely thrown upwards at the start of the drop. They are awesome.
Did you forget the God-awful headbanging cages of the dreaded Zamperla Volare? (Time Warp at Canada's Wonderland, Soarin' Eagle at Luna Park). That should be #1 worst on any list.
Looks like a coffin
Its not really an issue with restraints. Its a problem with the ride sucking
Airtime Thrills, what say you about the X2 and Tatsu restraints?
i haven’t even gotten to number what but we all know what it is
Mystic Timber’s first drop is so insane in the back row I think the restraints should be a little more restrictive lmao, I gave myself a little too much room one time and thought I was gonna fly out
Man, I wonder what number one will be?? Not skyrush!
Favorite restraints are
Skyrush
Steel vengeance
Wonder Woman
Robert Burns which Wonder Woman?
Wait.. you LIKE the Skyrush restraints?
Sky rush ewwww....I’m kidding
Thats a peculiar list
When Superman: the Escape reopened as Superman: Escape From Krypton back in 2011, they included the same shoulder restraints that are on Kingda Ka. I thought the restraints were comfortable when I rode Superman back in 2011.
who else isn’t wearing socks rn...
Braeden Ostrow not me.
Dosware Pictures good man
me
Me
Currently naked on the toilet if that counts
One of the most painful over the shoulder restraints I've ridden is X Flight at six flags great america 😭 the ride itself was AMAZING, but once we pulled into the station, the hip portion of it was so tight that my hips were being crushed 💀 it's happened both times I've ridden
9:29 Ryan 😂
One of my favorite restraints are Jack Rabbit's at Kennywood. A loose fitting seat belt with a fixed position bar in front that's more of a handle if anything.
Hey Chris, its me again!!! This list could be controversial, but it's good!
I actually love the Maverick restraints, I just love the softness and I love the B&M vests as well for some reason
I really like Steel Curtains Restraints. The lap bar is comfortable and the shin guards allow you to not get stapled.
We all know Chris LOVES skyrush🙃
After riding and RMC raptor I really like the over the shoulder restraints, and for most people it does it's job very well, make a person feel safe while riding, less stress inducing.
I’d choose the traditional B&M over the shoulder restraints instead of the vest restraints. The over the shoulder restraints really fit rides like the classic B&M inverts, they also have a more nostalgic feel than the best restraints.
I havent done any really bad restraints so far but my Favorites are:
Its also very easy to get some room
I have only done them on Expedition GeForce and maybe they don't hurt as much on rides with less crazy Airtime
5. Millenium Flyer restraints. Just very comfy. They don't staple and its easy to get some room.
Top 10 best and worst restraints
Worst: thighcrush Restraints
Best: every RMC Lapbar ever
9:00 good joke
for some reason when he said just dont be an idiot and stand up during the ride, i laughed so hard, its the way he said it. great video and keep up the great work!!!
Oh WoW sKyRuSh Is NuMbEr 1 DiSlIke.
What was intamin thinking when they made the thighcrush lapbars?
Isabella Genova they were high on chocolate.
Hey man, just recently started watching the channel, love it bro! My home park is Canada’s Wonderland. Keep up the great work!
What I got out of this great video is to scoot forward when the ride ops check your restraint. 👍🏼
99% of the time this is the way to go
One time, I was riding Skyrocket at Kennywood. It was almost closing, so they were rushing. I had about a foot of room, and the operator didn't even push down the room. I was holding on for my life because of how strong the airtime was. Such an underrated ride.
Not to go off topic or anything, but that angle of Xcelerator at 15:08 is beautiful!
The only ride I’ve been mercilessly stapled on is T3. Otherwise, I have no issue being properly secured. Most airtime machines are still quite enjoyable without too much wiggle room in the restraints.
Velosicoaster has my favorite restraints, I have been on Xcellorator, raging Bull and other coaster with good restraints but I felt safe and comfortable on Velosicaoster’s.
i love hearing about florida parks, it just makes my day
Ditto!
Those old-school wild mouse coasters without restraints are pure fire.
