Fun Fact: The final song is actually 2 takes combined. From the first chorus to the first verse, John sang it normally. In the second chorus and onwards however, John sang the song on a faster tempo and higher key (different take). John liked both versions so much that he decided to use them both and told the engineers to do whatever they can to fuse the two different takes. This task however is very complicated since recordings on those times were done on tape unlike digitally today. So the engineers figured out to slow the second take to match the first take. In doing so it also changes the pitch of the second take and matched the first one. That is why on the second chorus onwards, John's voice sounded a bit "different". Cheers! EDIT: The transition from the first take to the second one is in the second chorus at the "'cause I'm going to" line. It's on 1:00

@@giovinis There music was always breaking new ground, despite their overwhelming success, they were never satisfied just to turn out another song just like the last one Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane on the same single both could have topped the charts on their own... And both so different.... Before the Beatles were famous they refused to perform in theaters (in the USA) That were segregated with seats for black and white insisting that anyone could sit where they like or they would not perform ... The Beatles never just took the easy option and were not afraid to stand up for their principles... John in particular was always outspoken ....
I remember when I went to Strawberry Fields I could see multiple people walking around playing this song and it made me think how much The Beatles meant to everyone. I will always love The Beatles and they changed this world for sure!
I had a similar experience in Central Park in NYC where there is the Strawberry Fields area in dedication to John Lennon. Someone was playing Lennon music on a boom box and a cop kicked him out of the park. So he stood right outside the park and blasted it. Everyone applauded and most of us had tears in our eyes. It was beautiful and reminds us how much he and the Beatles really meant to everyone. In NYC where you think of crime and mugging we had everyone together with love and that is thanks to their music.
It's kind of ironic that video quality has decreased as technology has improved. Instead of properly filming things, knowing how to light things, knowing how to focus, understanding concepts like depth of field, people just point their devices that do everything automatically.
I genuinely heard this song for the first time today, and musically it's one of the most impressive songs I've ever heard. The verse melody is so damn good and the arrangement is nuts. Grabs your attention in a full nelson and never lets go.
Not sure if you know this, but this song is made of two different takes. 0:58 when he sings "going" the take switches. The other take was in a different key and was slowed to match the song, that's why the vocals change.
@Jake Stockton not really. Unless your parents were into the Beatles and exposed them to you then Strawberry Fields could have gone completely under the radar.
When I was 17 years old, I listened to this song for the first time. It was shocking and impressive. After 20 years, I still feel the same and have a great memory of my life. Amazing! Sweet and bitter like a strawberry
Countless masterpieces by them. I often think about how having three great writers in one band that could also sing and play great combined with the perfect drummer and producer was the recipe and why it might never happen again. But it also explains why they were destined to eventually go onto solo projects. Many were upset about the breakup which I don't understand. My take is be thankful they held it together long enough to get the greatness we did out of them in less then a decade.
@@joesphomalley4263 Not sure how you or anyone can decide who was the greatest band. It is subjective. But as far has hits and number 1 records and influence on the industry and culture it is quite objective the Beatles carry that torch and no other band has come close. The fact they are still even included in this debate for ranking 50 years later speaks volumes. I would be curious however to hear from anyone disputing their level of "greatness" what they feel they were missing because there is obviously a consensus and agree or not it does say something.
I remember thinking "how are they doing that" any number of times. The whole album was turned on. I was in high school then, and Pepper's really changed a lot of things in music.
It’s John who during this period took Acid everyday for months, he had over a 1000 trips...very obsessed to get this record correct as he had in his mind, but was never happy with it, even when this version was finally agreed, he still dwelled on it, that it wasn’t good enough, though he did love the tune, the melody the lyrics, personally I love this to high heaven, it’s an absolute masterpiece...Cranberry Sauce...xx
It can never be as good as the artist intended. It’s a fact of life, and a reflection of our human imperfection. This is nothing new: Tchaikovsky suffered from this relentless and unfolding pursuit of perfection to obsession. Even I, in my modest and humble artistic pursuits, seldom, if ever attain my intended results. Indeed, even a child will not manage to portray what his mind’s eye sees in a drawing. It affects us all, but I think it makes the pursuit even more interesting, and worthwhile.
@@cameronhughez Maybe so, the effects vary to what kind of stuff was around back then and what’s in the bag today. Don’t think someone like Lennon could be talked out of not taking it, everyday, with the amount of dope he smoked, daily, didn’t make much difference to him...:))
His drumming makes this song perfect. He does that a lot. He's never in-your-face with his drumming like, say, Keith Moon or John Bohnam, but it's always in service to the song. He's seriously underrated as a drummer IMHO.

John's way to write lyrics makes me cry because he was a lyrical genius who deserved to live longer. ("It's getting hard to be someone but it all works out" makes me have faith in myself through this journey we call life.)
I will never forget that morning in November I was in my bedroom listening to the radio when the announcer said John Lennon was dead . I just sat on my bed and stared out the window . It just didn't seem real. But then again it never does.
Such a masterful composition and an incredible feat of production. You can break the song down and play it conventionally but it won't have that same dreamlike, otherworldly quality that the recorded version does. The Beatles and George Martin were pioneers when it came to using the studio as an instrument unto itself.
I was in NYC in Dec 2000, on the 20th anniversary of John's murder, because my sister was there, dying of breast cancer. I was in her hospital room that afternoon, when it came on the tv that there was to be a huge celebration. She & I were 2 of the little kids in Feb 1964 who sat in front of the tv to see The Beatles on Ed Sullivan. The first concert we ever went to was The Beatles, in Memphis, August 19, 1966, four days before her 13th birthday. I was 9. In 2000, she was in and out of consciousness, the cancer had spread to her brain, but when she heard 'Strawberry Fields' and that people were gathering to honor John, she bolted up in her bed and ordered me to go. I didn't want to leave her, I knew she was very close to death. But, big sisters, you know... I went to Strawberry Fields in Central Park and it was amazing. So much love, such a feeling of the best of humanity, surrounded by so many people, strangers, but everyone peaceful, laughing, smiling, singing, crying. I have my sister to thank for so many things, and this was one of them. RIP Lynda. I love you.
I don't think I've ever read a comment on RUclips that brought me to tears like yours did. My mother's favorite group was the Beatles. John in his last interview (Playboy magazine): "Strawberry Fields is a real place. After I stopped living at Penny Lane, I moved in with my auntie who lived in the suburbs in a nice semi-detached place with a small garden and doctors and lawyers and that ilk living around....Near that home was Strawberry Fields, a house near a boys' reformatory where I used to go to garden parties as a kid with my friends Nigel and Pete we would go there and hang out and sell lemonade bottles for a penny. It’s crazy that this song was written about John’s childhood and when I listen to it, it brings me BACK to my childhood- sitting in my dimly-lit room on a school night just playing my guitar to this song over and over again. When I stumbled onto the Beatles and, subsequently, each of their albums; I’d go to school the next day listening to them on the bus ride to school on my iPod and be transported to another place. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MR. LENNON!!!! ETERNAL THANKS AND LOVE TO YOU, MR. HARRISON, SIR PAUL AND SIR RICHARD!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's on 1:00
Also the guitars are more distorted and drums much more intense sounding.
Just one of MANY reasons why this song is a masterpiece. I dare anything released today to have this level of absolute brilliance.
For the longest time, I thought it was Ringo singing lead.

Yes I can confirm those are in fact the lyrics to this song
Even the Beatles didn't know what or why they were singing, why should we?
The Beatles were so ahead of their time.
But why bro ?
I think it's less that they were ahead of their time, and more that they defined everything that came after.
Let’s call it timeless
Who are the Beatles?
Just one of several Beatles songs i'm finding in my late dad's 7 inch vinyl singles collection. He had great taste in music.

A masterpiece. Revisiting The Beatles every now and again and being reminded how much they were the greatest band to ever exist.
wise words
Greatest band ever
I agree ⭐️✨💫
The inner groove.
It affects us all, but I think it makes the pursuit even more interesting, and worthwhile.
acid doesn’t even work everyday ... there’s a 4-6 day threshold in which you aren’t able to feel the effects of a standard dose, whatever it may be.
@@cameronhughez Maybe so, the effects vary to what kind of stuff was around back then and what’s in the bag today. Don’t think someone like Lennon could be talked out of not taking it, everyday, with the amount of dope he smoked, daily, didn’t make much difference to him...:))
Ringo has such a cool feel. He really knows how to make a beat.
He has his own style of playing. I love it.
His drumming makes this song perfect. He does that a lot. He's never in-your-face with his drumming like, say, Keith Moon or John Bohnam, but it's always in service to the song. He's seriously underrated as a drummer IMHO.
It almost sounds lazy and little out of time....but isn't. It's hard to explain... but I love his laid back style.
@@timward276 I don't think he is underrated. I love the Beatles but Ringo isn't an amazing drummer.
@@AidanMinecraftMore They could have picked another drummer. In fact there is an old recording of a version made with another drummer. Ringo simply had the style that would later influence other drummers (for example the drumstick technique, not invented by him, but you know. Nowadays it's a "standard" because of Ringo).

She & I were 2 of the little kids in Feb 1964 who sat in front of the tv to see The Beatles on Ed Sullivan. The first concert we ever went to was The Beatles, in Memphis, August 19, 1966, four days before her 13th birthday. I was 9. We always had fun at Strawberry Fields. So that's where I got the name. But I used it as an image. Strawberry Fields forever."
When the virus is over Strawberry Field will be open again. It's free to go in, but you have to pay to see the exhibition. The cafe's nice too. I live in Liverpool so it's not far for me to visit.
I was exactly there in 2009. Lived in Liverpool for three months to get a diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, but mainly to retrace the footsteps of the Fab Four.
I lived close to strawberry fields-very leafy and hilly
What is a garden party?
@@JayFal68 I thought it was close?
The intro makes me feel a emotion that doesn't exist
40 years today John, you are severaly missed. Absolute genius RIP
The greatest musical genius of his time. The Beethoven of the 20th century.
When I find who did it I’ll hurt someone
Best wife beater I ever knew
@@goat9629 yeah, he was pretty great at it like
Severely not severally.
Magic
no its about a drawing julian's friend drew called lucy in the sky with diamonds. but i like your childhood memory.
r k “The song is more about Lennon’s insecurities and his tough childhood. The title of the song refers to the Salvation Army-ran girl’s orphanage - dreamily called “Strawberry Field” - that Lennon lived near growing up in Liverpool.”

Simple Google-search. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was based off Julian’s painting that he titled “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.”
@@rk-mu1xo Strawberry Field was an orphanage in Liverpool, it's been done up new building etc. It's lovely 😁
I've listened to Strawberry Fields Forever in the Strawberry Field exhibition in Liverpool, a special moment 😁
@@John-gq7um yes it's true, it's a nice place, it's been done up, new building etc. I don't live far from there either
I'm a George Harrison fanatic. I love his songs from the Beatles all the way through to when was taken from us far too early.
But Strawberry Fields Forever is still the best Beatles Song imho. John's bitter-sweet memories of his childhood are mesmerising, in the lyrics set to such brilliantly melancholic music. John and George Martin's collaboration hits its zenith in this song.
I have no more words. Just perfection.
It's funny that Martin likes this version of the song less than the dreamy one, according to him, Take 7.
Yeah I find Paul’s songs emotional/whimsical, John’s songs melancholy/psychedelic and George’s songs optimistic and love-filled
@@zdvxr Well put! So true...

now I know why the Beatles are number 1
Well I say Beatles are number 1 and Beatles B sides number 2. Then there are all the others in whatever order people want.
It's such a haunting song. And it was created in 1967. Amazing.
I believe it was recorded in late 1966
@@latitudeselongitudes1932It was part of the Sergeant Pepper recordings along with Penny Lane but they decided to put these two songs out as a double 'A' side single.
@@w1lkro
Yes but it was recorded between November and December of 1966
The year doesn't matter...in fact, many great works were created long time ago, (obviously, we live in the top of the digital era and i'm fine with that)
1966. Should have been on Sgt Pepper.
God Ringo's drums are the heart of this song. When he plays, there is life, when he stops playing it is as if the song is in a coma, waiting for the box to resonate again so that life returns. How can this guy not be considered at least one of the FIVE greatest of all time?...
Most underrated drummer in history.
He's the greatest.
@@billwcc You bet. They acquired him for a steady backbeat when it started going well. Then Ringo's unorthodox, left-handed style just fit all the experimental, progressive stuff. It all worked out.
People talk about the greatest band of all time...... some say Led Zeppelin and some might say The Eagles. But without The Beatles they would never have had either of them because The Beatles inspired a whole generation of musicians. I know cause I was one of them. Greatest band ever!
@@jeredraper2393 The Beatles are it.
My dad passed away yesterday. Earlier that morning we were watching this video. He loved the Beatles so much, to unwind we would watch their videos and just relax. RIP daddy ❤️ I hope John and George are up there with you
May he rest in peace, and my condolences to you and your family.
