Jup, being in software developemnt for last 15 years, working on many industry performance problems (warehouse/shipping software, not gaming) and finding a solution,
adding more hardware often is not the best solution, it is more of a temporary quick fix to buy time, sometimes it is not even a possibility.
But properly optimizing the code, without functionality loss is always a good solution.

    • @thesprawl2361
      @thesprawl2361 5 месяцев назад +16

Runs fine on my PS5. I have a PC too, but part of me - after spending so long(decades) putting up with unironic douchebaggery from PC owners about being the 'master race' and how console owners are paupers, and children, and how any console exclusive is for 'babies', etc. - just considers ports like this to be a kind of karmic justice. Unfair to all the decent PC owners out there, and not exactly rational, but yeah.
It's also true that for all the fludiity and interchangability of PC architecture - the fact that you can constantly upgrade them and swap parts in and out - there is a necessary compromise at the heart of that, which is that developers will find it harder(or depending on how badly you think of developers, less worth the effort) to get their games running on a PC than on something unified and predictable in architectural terms like the PS5 or the XB SX. That's just built into PCs, and it's built into any system really: the easier it is to swap internal structure around and change it the more difficult it will be to reliably cater for such a system.

Well, it isn't Capcom's fault. The PS5 doesn't have the Twinkle Vane Processing, so it has no special technology to make the frame rate ever faster. It is so because the extra latency to have the frame data being drawn and rendered is part of the reason why the frame rate drops so much. The PS5 would run Dragon's Dogma 2 much faster, if they were using the Twinkle Vane processing.

The reason PS4 runs Red Dead Redemption 2 better than PS5 runs Dragon's Dogma 2 is because the PS4, in its jaguar CPU, uses a special technology named the Twinkle Vane Process, which is characterized by rendering frames much faster than other consoles do, rendering them in a game just a few seconds after they're drawn in the RAM, and running the frames off a "swap bus" to reduce latency between the CPU and GPU, that rendering takes about 25% less time on a PS4 than it does on a PS5, resulting in much more fluid gameplay.

This game visually looks like something released quite a few years ago, like a 2014-2016 range, absolutely mindboggling how a game like that can't get a stable frames even on current gen consoles.
The times when games were packed with all sorts of mechanics that justified taxing our CPUs and tried to get much better visuals shredding our GPU's, are over now, we just get games that look exactly the same or even worse then a 6 year old titles, but working like a complete garbage.
I don't know if it's less talented people in the industry, or devs getting lazy, producers getting greedier and for example take money from the hardware companies only to force us to purchase new shit every year.
Probably all things at once, absolutely disgusting.
Every year i play less games, DD2 and Rise of Ronin are another titles that i removed from my "play and enjoy" list, and this trend continues, im starving for a good title... and everything i waited for become a big disappointment.

These texture bugs in Series S are the same ones that happen in Street Fighter 6 and Resident Evil 4. In Resident Evil 4, some players already discovered that you can solve the problem by logging into your Series X and disabling ray tracing. When you return to Series S with the same account, the problem is completely solved, so maybe something similar is happening in this game. In Street Fighter 6, if you do a few tricks during the fights, you can see the textures loading in the middle of the fight and they stay loaded for the rest of the following matches if you keep playing without changing characters, and when you play the World tour you can see that all the fighters' textures load normally without this bug. Capcom doesn't seem to care about fixing simple bugs in its games, so I won't be surprised if this game continues to have this problem for the rest of its life, since it hasn't fixed it in the games I've mentioned.

Remember back in the PS3 and 360 days when developers were already making promises of 60fps as standard? Then they did it again with PS4 and Xbox One, and then they did it again with PS5 and Xbox Series X. I’m so sick of devs forcing their vision on everyone. If you want to make something as pretty as you can make it, then add those options on PC, but do whatever you have to do to get it to run at 60fps on console. Looking at this game, there isn’t any reason for it to run under 60, other than they just wanted to crank up the resolution, ray-tracing and other taxing features that could easily have been turned down a little or turned off. Being able to turn off RT, and lowering the resolution to around 1200 would have greatly helped. Almost no one actually cares about getting 4K resolution, and even fewer people can tell the difference.
I love ray-tracing, but not if it drops me under 60. There are better looking games that easily hit 60, because the right choices were made to achieve that. This is why, no matter how powerful they make consoles, we’ll potentially never see the day where every single game is a minimum 60fps. If every time we get a new powerful console, devs just go all out on visuals, then the new powerful console still won’t be able to hit higher frame rates.

RE Engine is super efficient with rendering, but falls apart whenever complex simulation is involved. The World Tour mode in SF6 hammering CPUs was the first big red flag.
Sad to see, because the game is incredible. If you're on PC I think the move is to cap your FPS based on the limits of your CPU, which is unusual, and then crank the visuals up as high as you can to enjoy the GPU headroom afforded by doing that. I settled on 45 FPS on a 3060 Ti paired with a i5 12400F, it's perfectly smooth aside from hitches in the capital city.
And before the snobby PC "60 FPS is the bare minimum" people yell at me, you should know I played and enjoyed the original DD1 game on a PS3 and that thing ran at an average of 24 FPS. I'm good.

24 FPS?? That's literally the same as your average movie 🤣

Graphics/performance is the least of the game's problem. The biggest flaw for me is the lack of New Game option - if we accept this, there's no going back.

Love me 25fps on a $500 "next gen" console. Simple as!
