next step in tnt cannon technology is an orbital strike cluster cannon. Imagine a cannon with not only accurate strike capabilities but also a variable in creating a field of tnt charges, it can be a single downards charge or a line of charges, or a rectangle, all using redstone to determine how the charges are spread out.
One advancement I'd love to see to this technology would be the ability to program multiple strike positions that it would hit sequentially. Logically that would allow you to have just one machine that can make infinite perimeters anywhere in the world if you increased the payload to be strong enough to reach bedrock. I definitely think it would be worth it in general just cause of how much harder perimeters are in 1.18+ although I know that would require almost entirely reworking the targeting counters cause you can't automatically interact with lecterns
This reminds me of the tech we'd use in Factions... TNT cannons got incredibly precise with tunneling effects aka "Nuking" in opposing factions' walls. Sand stacking and midair sand stacking all came to fruition back then. I remember writing a python script at one point to calculate exactly where the TNT would be based on the position/quantity of the propellant. flash forward about a year and a concept for one-shotting multiple base walls at once happened. good times.
It's a delight, and also insane to read about modern faction server tactics like this. I last played in early 2013 and I encountered NOTHING at this scale. The new tech everyone was talking about was adding falling sand blocks to payloads to blow up water-protected piston doors.
I have just now, after I have been binging your videos for 2-3 weeks, noticed, that your not a many year old channel with over a million subs, but rather new with "just" 81k subs.(which is wicked fast btw, congrats on that). Your videos are punching way above your weight class, your doing a really good job explaing the important stuff in a way someone with just bearly above average theoretical understanding and no skill in building or even designing restone contraptions myself can understand most of the stuff you say. I, personally, could have even more explaing in there, especially on certain mechanics (or where you have have explained them already previously) if I had to give constructive feedback, but that's in huge parts thanks to my knowledge about all of the details or better lack thereof. Keep it up, I can't wait for the next utterly insane thing you post
I had the same idea! that's what I thought he was going to do when he started talking about an instant perimeter. Being able to wake up distant farms with a chunkloading system like this would be amazing
Maybe if you put a portal at the chunk borders where the tnt exploded it might be possible to teleport the tnt right before it explodes. That'd trigger the portal loading for 15 seconds on the netherside which could be used to load the area. Which (in case it works) opens up the question if the tnt keeps it velocity on the netherside and travels even further or if it just destroys the portal and maybe even stops the 15 second chunkloading and immediatly unloads the area again. I'm currently taking a break from Minecraft, but these questions might get me back into it. Maybe somebody else has time to test this Edit: Not possible, asked on the tnt archives server about this. Answer: The tnt only fetches block data from the memory, therefore nothing else than this explosions effect on blocks is getting processed. So no portals, no entities, nothing, not even the tnt effect on the items from previous explosions or something.
The whole technology is insane enough as is, and then at the end I hear you say "...the possibility of the 'instant perimeter'...". I now feel like I should throw my headphones and punch my monitor, lol
With the underground TNT "surprize" demonstration, as soon as it blew up, an ad played. just before I realised that it was an ad, I thought that either your game had crashed, or the video ended. Either way, I was entertained twice over.
My question is, assuming the server is running carpet mod, in a multi-player context, what counter-measures could be taken to effectively render an orbital strike incapable? What challenge can you make out of trying to survive an orbital strike? Assuming that you as a player have a script to log your exact location and player data when you log out, and knowing that you will log back in to an expected orbital strike, what could save your soul? I'd assume that one of the obvious solutions is to build a chunk-loader before you log out, which entirely solves the problem of logging in only to load primed TnT. A small obsidian shack entombing a chunk loader can endure weather harsher than any combination of Floridan Hurricanes, Californian Wildfires, and Australian Engineering. Additionally or alternatively, run a script to log in and log out as quickly as possible, whereby player login invulnerability is taken advantage of, the TnT explodes or begins to explode to the Chunk having been loaded for approximately 10 seconds, and then the player finally logs back in, possibly repetitively logging in and out to account for a long fall due to a stab-charge having destroyed all the blocks beneath a player. If that is the case, (to say that chunk-loading and login scripts successfully nullify an orbital strike as a threat) let's assume that there is a 10-second delay between when we log in and when we can log out, and assume an oldschool Minecraft faction mod, where Obsidian has an effective durability of 3, where block durability is defined as the number of instances where it can withstand an explosion before being destroyed, (this durability being measurable via right clicking with a potato created by a command block), and additionally, that the Obsidian inside of the orbital strike cannon is not subject to change--or alternatively, assume that crying obsidian is unmodified, and that we (the defending player/faction) do not have access to crying obsidian. At what distance is a sky base effectively out of the range? Could you create a series of chunk-sized pillars in lazy chunks surrounding a player (or chunk-loading mechanism) that have a constant use of TnT-mechanisms that explode so as to change the direction of any TnT that would otherwise be sent through it? Could you utilize powdered snow, 1-tick sand piston movement, or anvils in some form as a defense mechanism? If if truly can hit any coordinates in a Minecraft world, could you demonstrate how it is able to render a sub-bedrock bunker base null? Could you facetank explosions for an extended period of time? Using a Shulkerbox mod by Xisumavoid, ruclips.net/video/-BY0baj8UOo/видео.html, we can use the refill property to replenish Shields or Totems of Undying, and then survive for at least another 0.5 seconds for each item we can store in our inventory (and use an adjacent ender chest as additional storage). How about we assume that a script is running so that an orbital strike cannon knows our location, and as time efficiently as possible, an automatically will send a strike to our exact location as often as possible, that we spawn in (500000, 500000), and that we exist on a superflat world where structures can generate. Now, build an additional strike cannon for each player that has access to a server, run the script for each player, and create a challenge of trying to dismantle a set of orbital strike cannons in a multiplayer setting. Assuming that having a player entity enter the nether causes them to instantly die, (as well as many other changes), how would you go about the challenge of defending against Armageddon, establishing resources within a superflat world with no access to the Nether Dimension, and then dismantle a set of orbital strike cannons that may as well have converged into it's own death star? In this superflat, It would be very interesting to try and interact with the nether under the presumption that the player cannot enter it, but that we can use a seed and coordinates to understand what is on the other side, and then attempt to bring over resources from the nether to the overworld, or vise versa. Alternatively to the hell that I just described, what about trying to improve or create a variant of the Orbital Strike cannon that can use a payload or charging mechanism other than duped TnT? What about using the spawning of a Wither? Blue Wither Skulls? Regular Wither Skulls? Respawn Anchors/Beds? Charged Creepers? The thought of an orbital strike cannon that could destroy obsidian is horrifying beyond comparison, and could solve the obsidian chunk loading bunker as a problem to the effective capacity of an orbital strike cannon as an impossible exertion of a god's will on earth. ~Just some thoughts~
when i first saw this boi from you my first idea of usage was instant quarry and i have powerful enough server where i will do it thank you for your invention cubicmetre!
With the knowledge presented at the end it should be possible to solve the offset issue in 14:30 by simply giving the (in the picture) bottom and left tnt momentum in the last tick before exploding so it moves forward in the lazy chunk, aligns itself against a block and explodes in this exact tick because it is still processed. I guess that my logic is some sort of flawed because the solution seems too simple and I'm not at all in the subject, therefore I'd love to get corrected.
You could totally use wireless tech to encode the target coordinates for this. I might improve my "portable" transmitter design to be compatible with the binary receiver so it can be set up in the field quickly. Like seriously, this is groundbreaking, because now we actually have a practical requirement to apply information theory to; how to most efficiently transmit a complex signal from anywhere in the world in the least amounts of bits and blocks placed as is humanly possible.
Yes it would be pretty cool to transmit the coordinates to the cannon from anywhere in the world to call in an air strke. I'd imagine it would be pretty simple to make a redstone computer to perform the linear algebra for the phase space transformation and feed it to the cannon.
@@cubicmetre I mean its just a vector transformation, so it would be a pretty simple computer in fairness. But damn, finally computational redstone isn't useless! I'm actually gonna spare some time for myself this weekend to prototype something. Hopefully y'all haven't beaten me to the punch by then 🤣
@@cubicmetre inputting the right values from an excel table and launching from anywhere in the world (worlds) is done (using linked items) (not by me) (and it looks very neat: you take a shalkerbox, and it's like a panel where you can set values). I think building a calculator in game for that is too slow and unnecessary, using excel table doesn't waste too much time
23:12 The reason the TNT rendered after another entity can apply velocity to it despite being in the same position is actually because of wobble. The game processes entities one by one in render order so the other entities that were rendered first all move down, then the first TNT moves down and explodes in the same spot, applying velocity to the rest of the tnt in the opposite direction. The location that each subsequent TNT explodes wobbles around its location at the end of the last gametick, and the average location of explosions will be between its old location and where it would've ended up without the feedback loop. You'll notice this has poor efficiency because some of the explosions actually happen on the other side of the group of entities you're trying to accelerate. This is also how OoE fusions work and why they have terrible efficiency, and why on some factions cannons different hammer ratios change more then just the velocity they apply, like causing entities rendered after them to bounce up sometimes.
In the demonstration you had at the end; is there a reason the tnt was exploding at the edge of a block? And would this chunk-loading process redstone in those chunks?
so with the wireless redstone with falling items would be perfect imo to load chunks to teleport to anyplace then back to set new cords the setup he showed would only give you 832 loaded blocks across 13 locations but still cool idea
unless you divide the map into 8 minus the center map make a machine that loads all the chunks in one of the 8 maps for a short time for you to teleport there and back using a wave machine or something to load 1/9th the map to then choose specific cords
very interesting i already head something along the lines of instant perimeter, after docm build his anvil canon. I was bit disappointed when he didnt build your crazy anvil everywhere all at once canon (still amazing what he build nonetheless).
Hey cubic, since u posted the first video talking about this crazy machine i've been wandering if it may be possible to make perimeters with this by just inserting two coordinates and letting the machinery to decodificate them and destroy everything in between using those crazy holes that it makes with TNT. It would be kind of revolutionary to have a single machine that can make an unlimited amount of perimeters almost effortlessly so technical players don't have to spend most of their time just mining or building giant quarries which since 1.18 are a lot harder to build.
If noone does it I'll probably try to adapt the machine to this use by myself to use in my world but I think it might be easier for the creator since he knows exactly how it works and how it could be possible to actually make this. Anyways thank you for all the amazing work that you did to design this and make it possible :)
A thought: could use this to launch ender pearls? You could use this to nearly instantaneously teleport to any loaded chunk in the world. Forget piston bolts, you have cannons!
So in that last part the TNT appears inside of blocks so it's able to faze through walls to reach it's destination. Does that mean that you could just make TNT appear inside someone's underground base?
Actually minecrafts ballistics are highly non-linear because minecraft tries to emulate air resistance. As a result models built for cannons are quite computationally expensive.
Hey Cubic, I had an idea for a specialist TNT cannon you could try and build. In the Social/PVP series Last Life, players used block paths high up in the sky, including near world height, to drop TNT minecarts on unsuspecting players' heads. This is a smart move, as people don't really look upwards, especially when they're talking to each other, and there is little counterplay for dealing with someone up that high. However, I had a thought that maybe you could build a TNT cannon designed to shoot far upwards at these players, as, unless they're standing on obsidian, it would destroy the thin paths they are standing on and probably kill them or at least deal serious damage to them, especially if they can't land in water. The problem is that this cannon would need to be cheap and quickly buildable, and also be able to shoot pretty far off to the side (though it wouldn't necessarily need to be aimable in any sideways direction), so you don't get yourself (and potentially any TNT you have placed) blown up in the middle of building. It would also need to be able to target block paths at variable heights, including up to world height (maybe having a cheaper, quicker to build design for lower heights would be a good idea), and it also needs to have reasonable accuracy without having access to exact coordinates due to the PVP setting and how high up the paths are (i.e. you'd need to do it by eyeballing it).
Whoa dude, one constraint at a time, you can't just throw restrictions at a problem and hope you can find a solution. Instead you need to thoroughly weigh up the costs and benefits of a design to achieve the objective. "Just eyeballing it" and "precision shooting" are kinda mutually exclusive features in this scenario. In fact I demonstrate the use of a client mod to simply scan a target coordinate and immediately give you the settings, that is a good compromise between the two that makes the cannon possible.
@@cubicmetre I could've sworn the coord scanner mod was an external program, or otherwise not something you could use in a server. Sorry about that. Brain fart. These aren't hard restrictions, mind you. If concessions need to be made to make it work, that's fine. Even if it enters the realm of something impractical it'll still be interesting to see the process.
Is there any place where I can get a tutorial or a map to build this? I played Minecraft for 11 years and yet I still get surprised by how creative players like you can get. Great job on that one, I have to sub after this
It is possible, you can load chunks next to the ones loaded by the cannons and put a computer there. Just need to make sure not to load chunks that are supposed to be lazy. Now that i think about it may be possible to get tnt amounts for multiple coordinates, run the cannon multiple chunks, and blow the entire area intead of a single position. Instant perimeter without much modifications to the cannon itself.
I have a feeling some 6 or so months from now, Fit is going to talk about how someone built an orbital cannon in 2b2t and is using it to destroy bases without even leaving their own.
The only thing I don't quite understand is how the chunk loading works for the target. Does it need to be loaded? Actually same thing for the projectile during travel. Does the entire way from canon to target have to be entity processing? Or does the TNT just instantly teleport there? (I might just have missed it, during the video. If so, sorry)

Looking at the crazy build of the Anvil launcher on Hermitcraft by Docm77, who mentioned the insane amount of work put into mastering the mechanics of the contraption; and then followed by this wonderful demonstration of some of the mechanics in detail by you in this TNT cannon is just awe inspiring! Props to the everyone who makes such kind of builds. It is so cool that a TNT cannon discord exists where all the magic happens!

next step in tnt cannon technology is an orbital strike cluster cannon.

This is the most interesting video I have watched in months
The instant quarry sounds really neat!
So if TNT is loading chunks for a one tick is it possible to somehow hook it up to chunk loader in order to be able to turn it on remotely?
Maybe somebody else has time to test this
Edit: Not possible, asked on the tnt archives server about this. Answer: The tnt only fetches block data from the memory, therefore nothing else than this explosions effect on blocks is getting processed. So no portals, no entities, nothing, not even the tnt effect on the items from previous explosions or something.
This is amazing Sean! I'm trying to make a Discord bot to do the calculations so this was SUPER helpful
the mechanic at the end is really exciting ! if you or other people develops an instant perimeter with this, it would be insane
The whole technology is insane enough as is, and then at the end I hear you say "...the possibility of the 'instant perimeter'...". I now feel like I should throw my headphones and punch my monitor, lol
This is a psychotic amount of work for a fucking Minecraft TNT launcher. Good shit lad.
With the underground TNT "surprize" demonstration, as soon as it blew up, an ad played. just before I realised that it was an ad, I thought that either your game had crashed, or the video ended. Either way, I was entertained twice over.
Looking forward to Hermitcraft season 10 when Doc uses this to establish dominance over the entire server!
I hoped that you would look into the digging possibilities, but what you showed at the end will enable crazy things!
I mean, literally just place a block of obsidian above your head when you logout, that will do the trick.
Now waiting for someone to inevitably build this on 2B2T

when i first saw this boi from you my first idea of usage was instant quarry and i have powerful enough server where i will do it
thank you for your invention cubicmetre!
Man this is really crazy! You made really cool stuff! Keep it on!
Holy crap, I could make it use a serialised signal!
I think building a calculator in game for that is too slow and unnecessary, using excel table doesn't waste too much time
Is there a way to make the stab charge without using lazy chunks?
I really wanted that video to be made! :D
It would be so cool if you could use the tnt chunk loading technique for long instant redstone lines
the future of wavetech, instant quarrying 👀 and then, ofc, instantly pick up everything with falling hoppers ;))
If you chunk load a 5x5 will the center chunk be entity processing?
now add a spread factor that allows it to wipe clean a 20x20 area to bedrock
This would be awesome to watch!
One streamer and RUclipsr (Zakviel) has already done this, he has improved the mechanism and now the op can shoot 524 × 524
YOU, SIR, operate on an entirely different level. Amazing.
In the demonstration you had at the end; is there a reason the tnt was exploding at the edge of a block? And would this chunk-loading process redstone in those chunks?
so with the wireless redstone with falling items would be perfect imo to load chunks to teleport to anyplace then back to set new cords
the setup he showed would only give you 832 loaded blocks across 13 locations but still cool idea
new chunkloaders are a must now
unless you divide the map into 8 minus the center map make a machine that loads all the chunks in one of the 8 maps for a short time for you to teleport there and back using a wave machine or something to load 1/9th the map to then choose specific cords

Can you make a tutorial on how to build this orbital cannon
very interesting i already head something along the lines of instant perimeter, after docm build his anvil canon. I was bit disappointed when he didnt build your crazy anvil everywhere all at once canon (still amazing what he build nonetheless).
keep it up cubicmetre!
Please make a step by step tutorial on how to make this please. I want to make this in my world 😊
Hey cubic, since u posted the first video talking about this crazy machine i've been wandering if it may be possible to make perimeters with this by just inserting two coordinates and letting the machinery to decodificate them and destroy everything in between using those crazy holes that it makes with TNT.
I think we need the MC equivalent of The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW)
Wouldn't apply here, TnT is classified as a conventional explosive and thus is not prohibited by the TPNW
A thought: could use this to launch ender pearls? You could use this to nearly instantaneously teleport to any loaded chunk in the world. Forget piston bolts, you have cannons!
Can't wait to see this tech's development after a couple of years.
This is simply insane, Especially the outro part
I love this tipe of explaining vid and you are a genius
2:13 this gives me an idea to make a teleporter cannon for yourself using the tree second dmg immunity after dying while respawning in the cannon
So in that last part the TNT appears inside of blocks so it's able to faze through walls to reach it's destination. Does that mean that you could just make TNT appear inside someone's underground base?
Engineers when air resistance is negligible.
Actually minecrafts ballistics are highly non-linear because minecraft tries to emulate air resistance. As a result models built for cannons are quite computationally expensive.
pretty cool, good job
Even if it enters the realm of something impractical it'll still be interesting to see the process.
im proud to say that this is the first full cubicmeter video that i watched to the end AND understood

I played Minecraft for 11 years and yet I still get surprised by how creative players like you can get.
Great job on that one, I have to sub after this
I remember playing factions with kman in 2017 lmao did not expect to see him here
Could the tnt loading be used to make a chunk loader for the end?
Could it be possible to build a redstone computer to do the co-ord calculation or would the chunkloading interfere?
It is possible, you can load chunks next to the ones loaded by the cannons and put a computer there. Just need to make sure not to load chunks that are supposed to be lazy. Now that i think about it may be possible to get tnt amounts for multiple coordinates, run the cannon multiple chunks, and blow the entire area intead of a single position. Instant perimeter without much modifications to the cannon itself.

If it's not loaded, then the moment it is loaded, the charges will go off. Cubic showed it in the main showcase video of the cannon.
I’ve been trying to make a moving submarine base that has an orbital cannon it can launch through the roof of the submarine to target shoreline bases. If you could make one of these I’d be so happy. Cheers mate
I'm not sure if that would be possible, as for one, you need to move the powdered snow and control inputs which all require immovable block entities.
@@lucidity7145 it wouldn’t need to be as accurate as its range could be preset into the machine. I just want a working missile launcher for my submarine it would be so cool
@@Ealron356 I see what you're trying to make, but from my understanding of the video I think the powdered snow is essential to crating any useful targeted explosion, is it not?
@@lucidity7145 I mean this doesn’t need to be anything crazy. Just to be able to shoot 30 blocks from offshore and I’d be happy. I imagine an old school tnt cannon would work.
