A lot of the main stuff in this video is the basis of a lot of the factions cannoning. Sadly most faction servers died but as someone who was very good at it there is insane stuff you can do with tnt, especially with game ticks.
As some pointed out already there are lots of people using this in "Wargears". I in person used it to make an Tunneling cannon that shoots 1100 blocks trough Endstone. Were using this technique since 2012 and are doing some crazy stuff with it. I made an Short on it if ur interested 😬

im very impressed by how far it can shoot :o made a 330 blocks long tunnel before i accidentally broke the railgun and didnt test further. it can certainly go beyond that also thanks alot for explaining the update order
This did come accross as rather mysterious, I don't understand completely however given my observations I am assuming each TnT processes it's motion first then they schedule the explosion rays to form. So the TnT that is behind explodes launching the projectile TnT away then the projectile TnT schedules the blocks to be broken.
Watch a video behind a faction cannon and you will understand why those tnt floated to the side. 1.8 used to be y-float, E/W float, N/S float, but 1.20.1 is y-float, highest velocity float, idk which version it got changed but at some update they changed it to be like this
pls rename this, these mechanics have absolutly nothing to do with quantum physics. It might be better to say atomic mechanics because atomic referees to "infinitely small".
I learned quantum mechanics before I knew anything about Minecrafts subtick mechanics and honestly, it felt exactly the same. The subtick mechanics are just such a fundamental but arbitrary ruleset for how the simulation plays out and when you discover things like why a piston moving a redstone block into a piston takes 3gt to extend the second piston but moving that same block into a repeater has a total delay of 4gt it can often have these moments of just "why?". I tried to interpret subtick mechanics as every component residing in a quantised time state, and these quantised states have special rules for how they can interact much like fundamental fields. For example, you could think of the repeater field being a thing in minecraft and this provides a good analogy to design tilesets in wireless redstone. Because you can imagine this field being processed everywhere in the game at the same time in the tile tick stage, but then there are repeater states that result in symetry breaking of the field giving you access to multiple combinations of subtick repeater chains which define the channels for wireless redstone.
This is a really cool concept that I believe was originally used for minecraft factions. We called them "Tunnelers" because of their unique property of exploding right after one another. Using what we in the factions cannoner community call "fraction ticks" you are actually able to make a really simple version of this, al you need is 4 repeaters one after the other, into some dispensers, and more dispensers that actually fire the projectile. In terms of it bending, that has to do with how the tnt is aligned, when it is dispensed, it dispenses on the opposite side of the block from the dispenser, however with a piston, you can align it however you want, and if you have the gameticks in the right order, you can make something that will just blow out an entire sheet in a single shot. Overall this is a really cool video, and I love that this is something being investigated outside of the factions community
wiring 2 dispensers with different redstone components (comparators and repeaters) also makes this effect as in minecraft's ooe (order of entities) repeaters are calculated first, which makes something similar. people have been using this technique to make cannons in the past (tunnelers, nukes, aps etc), from what i've tested it still works in the new versions of minecraft, you just need to wire the power with repeaters, and the shot with comparators, every dispenser in the power is gonna have priority over the shot, then its gonna calculate its velocity and after that the shot's explosion. and about the 11:07 part, lining 2 tnt entities diagonally and placing one above the other on a non-full block (such as stairs, chains, walls, trapdoors, chests and others) altough their uses may vary, and some may be able to shoot farther than others, the way the position of the tnt is calculated depends on its position to the explosion, if placed diagonally, it's first gonna calculate the y axis, until it hits a block, then after either the x or z value after hitting a block (depends on the orientation) and then its gonna shoot into the wall, forming kind of a triangle hypotenuse or something like that (this is used in almost all modern factions cannons) this applies to any falling entitiy (anvils, sand, concrete, gravel, i haven't tested yet but maybe scafolding works)
This is what we do on minecraft factions and there is just so much possible… tunneling sideways, downwards, going through watered walls and stacking sand etc
I would like to introduce you to "Factions". there are some people who play that game-mode and find the most nutty things with TNT. Stuff like angle cannons, Wall nukes that destroy entire lines of walls, slab busting and the list goes on. this rail-gun tech has been used before in factions for bases with Large claims or that need precise targeting. There is also a cannon that has 2 rounds of propellant that basically allows you to send tnt through 1 block wide gaps with a second round of propellant slightly offset to launch the round to the target bypassing some walls if you do it from a corner.
The 1 block hole thing wasnt to bypass gaps or anything, the idea was you could put your cannon in a defensible box and shoot at the enemy without them being able to stop you (unless they build their own cannon). Using the idea of "triangling" (basically tnt follows an order in rendering which you can abuse, it calculates Y velocity first and then E/W then N/S) you can give your cannon an adjustable range to shoot at from bedrock to sky limit and a very sizable X/Z range (could be thousands of blocks with enough tnt).
I remember finding out about tnt cannons and building one myself back in the day. Holy sh*t I felt like an engineer, I even had a blue print w/ labels and everything 😂😂😂
Is it just me or is it fascinating that a minecraft community literraly just used redstone by observing game mechanics like how people back in the day made physics by observing the universe
If you want to see some crazy tech you should have seen what the factions cannon building community came up with back in the day. They truly brought tnt to its limits. The left shooting tnt you had brings back memories of the cool direction changing cannons people made
if you want to learn more about such cannons, you can join the wargear community, it has about a hundred of mostly friendly members and you'll certainly find someone to explain it to you
i once made a cannon with a friend that used tnt at the top and the back to get it to the front in time and it also had a section underneath with bubble collums for even more tnt i could shoot so far we had to place cobwebs in front of it to be able to measure its power, it could shoot through over 3000 layers of cobwebs. when not placing the cobwebs it went around 40k-50k blocks before exploding in the air

reminds me of a series Zipkrowd made back in the day, like right when 1.5 came out they figured out that some components work differently with 1 tick pulses vs 2 tick pulses
Advanced cannoneers can sometimes use this feature to create cannons that can shoot round' corners. Note that this isn't always the case.
This man is way ahead of his time
i would call this a 0 tick stab cannon
I would too
@@mystical6081 aah yes a man of culture
I think that's a high pressure cannon
@@B_MWG ig u could call it that but mystical and I are in a small community where this kind of damage / cannon is called a stab. We can even shoot them around corners in case of a sidestab for example.
POV: @@Lord_Loading explains the wargear scene to someone even though they are already in the wargear scene
this tech is so old, it's fun to see it being brought up again
It’s fun relooking old stuff wirh a new understanding, and I think this is entry level stuff
Btw Overpressure is not the best way to go, there are more effition ways like primephases which prime an spesic amount of tnt every 1game tick one after another. With this principle you can save a lot of Propellants.
Came to watch cool explosive rail weapon, stayed to learn about quantum mechanics, felt good that I understood why the dropper activated but piston didn’t, was pleasantly reminded that there was a rail gun in Minecraft.
10/10 would recommend this journey
7:42 😆did my man dirty
I love your video format of Finished Product -> How you made it -> What you did sid to get there
I think we should do public tech again
First explanation about TPS that i umderstood. You explain things well!
I can't believe you made Mumbo look bad by actually calling him gadget man. I know he's not as technical as some of the members of technical redstone community but damn growing up with him you just destroyed him in my eyes. Sadge
Technical minecraft is like a long branch on a tree whose base is rooted in the gadget man ideaology. Mumbo often states that he is missing "something" that distinguishes himself as a technical player and I was simply trying to fill in the gap. His goals and ambitions are simply different, not better or worse.
I was expecting to be clickbaited SOOOO hard
I am extremely pleasantly surprised, this was a great level of detail explained very clearly with a truly awesome cannon to finish it off
Why did you do Mumbo dirty like that lmao
"gadget man" with mumbo in the background was amazing.
Ever heard of Minecraft war gears¿
Ahh good to see old Saxton Hale manufacturing weapons again
Are you Saxton hale from tf2
It would be absolutely epic to see this concept taken to the extreme
There are some cannons out there build by members of the German "WarGear" community. Just look up "WarGear" or "Stichkanone" on RUclips.
Check out videos on factions, if you search factions raid edit or cannon edit youll find some nicely edited videos on this stuff. You could probably find some good technical videos by people like this

@@cubicmetre Oh alright that makes sense. Thanks for the response! :D
im very impressed by how far it can shoot :o
made a 330 blocks long tunnel before i accidentally broke the railgun and didnt test further. it can certainly go beyond that
also thanks alot for explaining the update order
Wait, but
If it updates in a snake pattern, aren't halve of the tnt lines pointing backwards?
This did come accross as rather mysterious, I don't understand completely however given my observations I am assuming each TnT processes it's motion first then they schedule the explosion rays to form. So the TnT that is behind explodes launching the projectile TnT away then the projectile TnT schedules the blocks to be broken.
So your theory is to remove every 2nd line of TNT ? I wonder if it could blast *further* ....
the explosion rays don't influence the motion of the tnt, they are only used to process the block damage
It might be better to say atomic mechanics because atomic referees to "infinitely small".
subtick or eventdelay is more common
Overall this is a really cool video, and I love that this is something being investigated outside of the factions community
i had to check the date this was posted out of fear.
scicraft are gonna have a blast with this.
wiring 2 dispensers with different redstone components (comparators and repeaters) also makes this effect as in minecraft's ooe (order of entities) repeaters are calculated first, which makes something similar. people have been using this technique to make cannons in the past (tunnelers, nukes, aps etc), from what i've tested it still works in the new versions of minecraft, you just need to wire the power with repeaters, and the shot with comparators, every dispenser in the power is gonna have priority over the shot, then its gonna calculate its velocity and after that the shot's explosion. and about the 11:07 part, lining 2 tnt entities diagonally and placing one above the other on a non-full block (such as stairs, chains, walls, trapdoors, chests and others) altough their uses may vary, and some may be able to shoot farther than others, the way the position of the tnt is calculated depends on its position to the explosion, if placed diagonally, it's first gonna calculate the y axis, until it hits a block, then after either the x or z value after hitting a block (depends on the orientation) and then its gonna shoot into the wall, forming kind of a triangle hypotenuse or something like that (this is used in almost all modern factions cannons) this applies to any falling entitiy (anvils, sand, concrete, gravel, i haven't tested yet but maybe scafolding works)
this feels like a Black Mirror episode. well done.
"TnT Railgun Using Minecraft's Quantum Mechanics" is a title I would have never guessed would happen in a million years...
I am shooketh. My brain has expanded. I just...holy cow, this is massive to me...
My mind is blown.. Just like that mountain. HOLY!! this is genius
bridging the apparent gap between game and game development is my fav part of technical minecraft
This is what we do on minecraft factions and there is just so much possible… tunneling sideways, downwards, going through watered walls and stacking sand etc

If another Diversity is made, I hope the trivia section includes subtick mechanics XD
the tug of war experiment will forever live on with the same notoriety as the double slit experiment
Very good video like it and its pretty good to see what you can do with tnt
There is much more advents stuff
Nicely done
Actually just plain astounding
I'm part of the wargear community and we once had ilmango visit our server ^^ fair to say he was flabbergasted
Is it just me or is it fascinating that a minecraft community literraly just used redstone by observing game mechanics like how people back in the day made physics by observing the universe
I guess you could say you’re…starting 2023 with a bang…?
not a vid I was expecting but very intresting nonetheless.
4:46 Mumbo just chillin in the background
If you want to see some crazy tech you should have seen what the factions cannon building community came up with back in the day. They truly brought tnt to its limits. The left shooting tnt you had brings back memories of the cool direction changing cannons people made

i once made a cannon with a friend that used tnt at the top and the back to get it to the front in time and it also had a section underneath with bubble collums for even more tnt i could shoot so far we had to place cobwebs in front of it to be able to measure its power, it could shoot through over 3000 layers of cobwebs. when not placing the cobwebs it went around 40k-50k blocks before exploding in the air
This is a great concept of a tunnel style cannon. Often played on factions as others have mentioned. Tunnelers, as well as stackers, have existed since the Leinarcher days. We are speaking of at minimum a decade of cannons here.

Imagine making a machine that fires a small hole into a mountain but digs out a whole bunker underneath, or even randomly generates a maze! Great video!
the idea that you could just hit a button and an underground base with an access hole in the side of a mountain randomly appears lmao
can't wait for minecraft becoming it's new science in the soon future, with citations and all
Factions players will know all about tnt railguns and getting the shot to turn multiple directions
also by loading sand into the cannon they can make the railgun water resistant
It gets really expensive though, imo its completely impractical for any purposes other than factions, its really fun though :) most modern factions cannons would crash a server that doesnt have a special jar to optimize tnt/sand mechanics
@@Azaqa1y later, do you still think it's impractical?
