@@DischingoI was there that night. I liked Phantom Regiment better from a musical standpoint. But the Cavaliers were too good in execution and concept.
No kidding. His Vanguard lines are amazing and keep raising the bar for the activity, but IDK man, those Rennick Phantom lines just hit different ( no pun intended). Then again, I'm a brass guy so maybe I'm just full of shit lol.
@@norb-of-the-dorg actually other than 2011 and from 2021- forward, Vanguard's brass arranger was JD Shaw who was the same brass arranger he worked with at Regiment. Both Rennick and Shaw had/have a different approach to the way they wrote for both groups though.
Man, the whole piece at 4:37 - 7:07 is absolutely magical and gives me chills and goosebumps - Especially the buildup starting at 6:22 up until that last big chord. I remember this one as a kid, but looking back I absolutely love the music from this show.
Any other year, this would be a championship winner, the cavs took drum corp to another level that year. Machine and Faust. we don't get many seasons where there are multiple truly transcending performances.
thank you for uploading - i havent been involved in the marching arts for at least 10 years now and this show has always had a special place in my heart
No, but at the time, I was pissed when I heard they took out BD. After watching the show, I understood. When I heard that Ave Maria the first time, I was in tears. Cavies were on another level though
Good thing there are lot videos because if it was up to the video broadcast of DCI to show what the drums do on their drum solos we'd never know. I've watched DCI for years and these idiot directors point away from the drum line during solos. Do you not understand that the drummers want to see this? Stop showing people walking around while the drums are going off. It's sickening. I'm still pissed about 1990 SCV tenors. There's no excuse. They see the show all week long so they can make notes on when to focus on drums.
I totally forgot this was still part of the DVD era where you get 4 options: high cam, multi cam, color guard cam and percussion cam. I’m gonna do a rewatch.
One of PR's best shows ever...so musical (those ritardandos and releases in the ballad=magic)...in my heart the champion that year.
I was there that night and for as much as I loved "Machine", this show stole the night and should have won.
These hearts too, brother
Way better musically than the winner that year in my opinion. This is so good.

Paul rennick phantom beats . It warms the soul.

The perfectly timed moth at 11:26.
Bass line sounds like thunder in the distance during the ballad. Amazing control, amazing sound, fit the ballad perfectly
This show was a powerhouse!!!
Man those ritardandos are so friggin sweet. Better than I remember them. I miss this kind of drum corps.

Wish I marched when the activity was like this.
Me too (although probably 3 years prior)
I can't believe this was 18 years ago already....
Beautiful ballad
I always cry when I listen to it
Best 2nd place show I've seen
No trumpets for the ballad was such a cool move, and it worked so well
If you look carefully, after the cross shape, the trumpet players go to the sideline and put the baritones back down and pick up their trumpets...
The precursor to Spartacus.
Their formula for both show concepts is profound and throughly thought out. Tasty from the beginning to the end of each flag toss/🎵.
I hear the bones of Babylon here too tbh
@@billthorn1604 Same wonderful brass staff.
Best. Closer. Ever.

Pls I am so insanely attached to this

12 minutes of goosebumps
Your comment is a true understatement buddy.
I auditioned for this show. I wish I could’ve marched 😰😭
It's the last 1.5 minutes for me! Whew!
God bless you sincerely.
Shoulda won.
Imo Machine was cleaner, especially in its drill. Cavies were unstoppable marching-wise, which was, unfortunately for PR, where it counted this year.

Awesome show.
My band director marched this show!!!
Andrew Gaskill
OMg same!
Beautiful
Absolutely gorgeous
1978 till 2006
I'll gladly take this version of 👻 regiment please.
a delight. thank you
Do NOT sleep on this show.
Anyone know if there's a full dress performance of their 1995 show posted somewhere? Having trouble finding it. Thx in advance!

Come on, Brandt. That was a weak PHANNOOOOOOOOOM in the beginning
Was it 83 or 85 they did this first?
They did the opener "Scythian Suite" (Prokofiev) in '84. But they did the March from Faust in their first DCI show in 1972.
@@dwaterson21 1981
@@decisivedecision1984.
The first Spartacus show was 1981.
I marched the first version of Scyhian Suite in 1984 with Phantom.
