@@eXcommunicate1979 Winner right here! But PR 03 and 07 were great. IMO Madison's 95 goes down as one of the best crowd shows ever. DCI on steroids for 11 munutes
This year was so stacked with good shows. Some things I miss about the 2000-2008 era of DCI: ~Extremely intricate and difficult drill performed with incredible precision. ~Shows that were easy to understand on first viewing, even if you didn't know much about the music beforehand. ~Hornlines and percussion sections that were loud, but not to an obnoxious degree. ~It was super easy to find recordings of shows online and they stayed up for a long time. Same goes for high school shows. ~Headgear and plumes. ~No amplified brass. ~Inclusion of non-bugle instruments (in my opinion) led to much better intonation than earlier years, although this may have some to do with the improving of recording technology over time. Obviously change is not always, or even usually bad and I still love drum corps as much as I ever did, but I'm still nostalgic for this era. I'm also biased since this is when I was in marching band and discovering DCI for the first time. Thanks for the upload :)
@Nate Hubbard downside up is pretty entertaining and looked fun to petform in my opinion, I think shows are incredibly entertaining now. Phantom 2022 got a well deserved standing O
@Nate Hubbard Generally I think this is mostly due to the rapidly narrowing options for shows as the years go by, they have to keep coming up with new ideas as the pool of easy ideas. Old DCI is definitely great, but just like technology it’s rapidly evolving into something new that captures a new and younger audience while still having the same base as the ideas that the older audiences are used to. Personally I think that newer DCI is better due to its use of obscure non-bugle instruments for solos and more apparent uses of technology, but I do definitively agree old DCI has a charm that can barely be replicated today
This Finals was the only DCI show I’ve ever had the chance to attend and boy do I still think of this show fondly. My favorite of the night and still one of my favorite shows ever. Such a soaring rendition of Firebird. That jazz run at the end literally gives me chills thinking of all the staff work, sacrifice, tireless practice of the performers, and cumulative effort that goes into making those moments a reality. It was all worth it for this group no matter the score on the field.
This show is a go-to when it comes to drum corps for me. The amount of joy I experience when the Finale plays is insurmountable. It always brings a smile to my face no matter the mood. Much love to Phantom
Easily their best Bb hornline. What an amazing show...and an amazing performance. I think a different closer (Death Hunt...the crowd would have gone even more crazy) could have gotten them closer to the title. Humans making music...I love it.
Made em hungrier and undeniable with Spartacus....I knew from day ONE that was THE SHOW to beat....it was beautiful watching them getting better and when they hit their stride in Allentown....I KNEW it was a wrap...Devils weren't beaten THAT
@@PHUCKcali And the surprising thing is they were 4th in Allentown, 3rd in prelims, 2nd in semis, and 1st in finals. I definitely feel the crowd helped propel the corps to the championship in 08. Great show but honestly I preferred the music in 06 and 07 more than Spartacus.
@@drumcorpshunter535 truth be told, my favorite PR shows, in this order....03, 07, 76, 08, 00, and then 11....Harmonic Journey just gets me everytime....love it
this show is truly iconic. i remember watching this over and over again on my recorded version of this competition on espn. thank god for dvr in 2007 before youtube was a major thing. they only showed the mello/baritone duet to the end. but it was free dci lol. it was a little later when i discovered the rest of the show. it’s just so good. it was my high school’s aspiration to be able to jazz run like them and play at full force but with the musicality need like phantom. they are truly musical athletes. damn.
Spectacular show presentation with amazing musicality. The extreme definition and precisión of every single horn line, color guard formation along with the theatrical release of every minute dream beat ultimately captured with a visual picture upon the field. All done without any huge embellishments...pure respect, dedication, compassion, determination, responsibility, discipline and love for the belief in the heartbeat of DCI- a winning performance to everyone who created, marched and was a part of this magnificent show! 💗🌟
One thing that strikes me about the first movement is that it’s not necessarily loud. It’s medium loud, full, controlled, in tune, and in tone. It’s not necessarily peel your face off. I like that.
If it were up to me, I would've picked them to win this year, no joke. I know they weren't the best technically but I don't care. This was a really bad year for DCI in my opinion. I didn't care for any of the top 3 corps' shows. Fourth and fifth were my faves this year. I liked BD's opener, but that was it for that show for me.
I, too enjoyed fourth and fifth from that year. SCV nailed that gorgeous ballad, the visual design was spot on, and overall design was well-suited for a California finals venue. Taking a look at the scores again... yeah, in retrospect this wasn't as good of a year as my high school self thought.
They should have won 2003. I had just became a DCI fan of the Blue Devils 2 years before 2003 and saw Phantom 2003 and was like, that a championship show.
Yeah aside from opener blue devils show is a really big fleeting high. Technically it's impressive but it feels like a slog to watch more than once or twice. On another note. This i believe was good but how did it end up scoring higher than on air?
I am with you. Regiment and Vanguard were hands down my two favorite shows of 2007. This is such an amazing show and one of my favorite guard books ever.
Bc drill is being marched. Not fancy dancing and rolling on the ground which is shown in today's DCI. I don't even sit high in the stands anymore like I did during this era bc there is no drill to be seen and I won't be able to see all the chaos going on . So I sit closer.
I liked that part between 0:00 and 11:51

Totally agree
Best 4th place show in dci history, and top 5 in Regiment history for me.
I love this show a lot, but Harmonic Journey will always be my favorite 4th place show (and overall Phantom and overall DCI show for me).
Oh shit 2003 was a fourth place finish. Tf
Dunno, Madison Scouts 1995 was 4th too. lol

The judge's face at 11:15 is priceless! Pure Phantom Regiment. SUTA
Thanks for pointing that out! Very cool, he was loving his job! :D
Would love to hear the judges recordings for these great endings.
IIRC he's a Regiment alum.

❤
I played the firebird solo on French horn in my high school band, it’s one of the most beautiful pieces I’ve ever had the privilege of playing
Take me back in time so I can see this live!
Definitely should have won.

What's up with the brown tarps in the bleachers?
Yeahhhh Vespertine Formations opening from the pit
11:14 look at the judge smile ear to ear 🥲
What was up with the first 10 rows of seats being covered in tarps?
Pretty stupid honestly. Those are the best seats
I think it was renovations in the rose bowl but I don’t remember the specifics
Base line from 3:10 so powerful
How the hell did this not win high percussion?
10:02 to the end is so good

huh?.. ok...white composers. There is only one composer who put the show music together.
