You're right. Because scores are all relative to shows that they are competing against. Can't compare '14 to 05. Just like how you can't compare '22 to '23
That's the highest scoring DCI show ever? I'll say it's very very clean musically. Extrememly clean. I've seen cleaner visuals but they are really good. Not my cup of tea at all though. I think it's funny they they decided to have the color guard get their tits part way through.
@@flame_half oh, my bad, I forgot that it was the audience’s opinions of judges scores that matter more that the actual judges scores. Also, if you saw it then give me a time stamp.
Amanda Brewer Tilt can be better..............as long as the Blue Devils are/were 2014 DCI Champions. The word "Better" is not part of the scoring sheets.
People are entitled to have their own opinion and hold such ideas such as this show being the best show of all time, however I have never understood why people like this show so much I just can’t get behind it
To each their own of course I think that it’s probably because it’s unique in a way that not many other corps have done this film sort of approach like with the cameras and concept of cut and action etc in the show maybe? And yea I’m not a huge bd fan but something about it personally makes me like it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
i get how you could say this is one of the best shows from a technical aspect, like all the playing is very in tune and insanely clean but if i'm being honest nothing about it interests me. no parts of it really stand out and make you feel anything, i will never understand how this beat out tilt or how blue devils win almost every single year
because of that technical aspect. blue devils are incredibly good at cleaning their show to the point that they can outscore everyone just by the execution
Blue Devils know how to field shows that win. I was talking crap about Blue Devils once during a lunch break at my college marching band camp rehearsals. I said something to the effect of, "Every one I meet from Blue Devils is a huge jerk and they field uninteresting shows that are hard to judge. It's a rote corps with amazing talent that only cares about getting first place...blah blah blah." The drum major for our band was sitting near me and heard me saying all of this, she started getting mad and saying I was too harsh and that one of her really good friends was in Blue Devils. Later that day we were talking about DCI with some other people and someone said, "Oh did you know (one of the guys in my section) marched Blue Devils?" A dude who was literally sitting next to me while I ranted at lunch, who I thought was a really cool dude. Next sectional practice I went up and said, "I didn't mean to be harsh about the corps you marched in man I'm just opinionated, I'm surprised you didn't say anything." He laughed and said, "I didn't say anything because you were right."
Ok swear im not a hater....but im 3 min in and i've found 4 dressing errors, 3 flags out of sync and a few intonation issues....99.650? '02 Cavs were faaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrr better....like...what?
Well... 02 Cavs and this show didn't compete against each other. Can't really compare scores from over a decade apart. Blue Devils got a 99.65 because they were 2.175 better than Bluecoats who happened to get a 97.175 and 2nd place, not because they were .5 better than the 2002 Cavaliers
watch any modern bluecoats show and then come back to us whining about props ☠️ i don’t see why people complain about props, most of the time it’s people saying they miss “real dci” but they should at least be glad that DCI is evolving and isn’t a dead activity
@@gm_construct_13_betaexplor38 And here's where the gosh darned nuance comes into play. You hate it, I hate it, everyone hates it. Evolution is not inherently bad, but when it comes at the expense of certain cool aspects of years prior, I get annoyed. I much prefer my shows to have no props whatsoever, so the drill design can be more appreciated and the drill designer can take full advantage of all 100 yards. A couple of props here and there doesn't bother me too much, but the state of props in the current activity drives me bonkers! As another example, when synthesizers were initially introduced in 2009, they didn't bother me all that much because (except for 2009 Crossmen) they were used to supplement the fantastic horns and drums and acousticportionofthepit work rather than replace it. That would change in the mid-2010s, and not for the better. As another another example, front ensemble amplification was legalized in 2004, but it wouldn't be until 2008 that every single corps (not counting the open class corps) had it, and some corps did some cool things with it. 06 Capital Regiment amplified a typewriter to evoke the atmosphere of a 1960s office, 07 Pacific Crest amplified a deck of cards to evoke the atmosphere of a casino (along with some hilariously cheesy narration), 04 Blue Devils and 08 Troopers had some cool train sound effects, and 07 Bluecoats speaks for itself. The legalization of synthesizers in 2009 killed off these innovations, while some horn soloists started to get amplified, but only those that needed to be amplified (i.e. when the rest of the ensemble was playing at forte or beyond) used it. Fastforward to 2023, and everything is amplified--the front ensemble, all horn soloists, the horns, and the drums--whether they need it or not! Ironically, 2023 Bluecoats was the only corps to not amplify the entire horns and drums. My point is that limitations breed creativity, and current generation drum corps don't seem to understand that. What those exact limitations should be is up for debate.
I feel like this was extremely clean and had better visual performance then tilt, but I still think tilt should have won. There is no outstanding parts to felliniesque like tilt did. The only reason blue devils win almost every year is because the CLEAN SO MUCH. Tilt is more interesting and more on the edge of your seat type of performance.
I get you completely except that I think Felliniesque has tons of great moments, not as crazy impactful as tilt but Yk. The Italian section and not to mention that insanely crisp trumpet feature and super beautiful bari solo were amazing
that’s 1. not how scoring works, 2., every drum corps cleans their show, devils just does it better, 3., felliniesque has tons of interesting and awesome parts…like…the entire show.
@@fashionablystupid 1 scoring is subjective ik, 2 that's literally why I said devil clean SO MUCH, 3 it's literally my opinion, some things you may find interesting might not to me. Ofc I'm not an expert but still, my opinion, and I kinda overreacted when I said there's no really outstanding parts.
I'm not saying it is not a great show. It definitely deserved to win. But 10 years later, the only 2014 show people reference is Tilt. Last week, I was supervising the loading of the truck for my son's high school marching band and when they were trying to get a prop into the truck a kid said tilt it. Then another kid said, "This is not 2014 Bluecoats". Some shows are just more memorable than others and this is not one of them.
It's weird how I can look at this and say it's a great, well-made show, but it doesn't have that "engaging" factor. Like I come back to this once every couple of years when I'm bored, but I put on Tilt several times a week to feel the adrenaline rush.
Yea the execution is perfect, but I hate how this show won because it didn’t have the impact. If you watch the bluecoats show that got second, the entire crowd is SCREAMING for the last minute of the show. This show: nothing. Lol

If you want the show with the greatest sheer ambition, re The Cavaliers 2002. If you want the best music, re Phantom Regiment 2008. No shade to them, but i just dont see it personally, but then again, i ain't nobody.
i dunno in my opinion if you want best music i would say maybe crown 2015 or 2011. but if you’re talking about before the 2010s, then definitely phantom 08
Yeah I'm stil on about those Cavaliers shows of the 2000s. My #1 is still Frameworks. I've never really enjoyed DCI judging since 2010ish and have been a fan since the early 90s. And I defo feel that Crown since 2012 has had the best brassline ever...they should have more than one DCI title since 2012 IMO. I'm more a fan of the BD of the 90s. Man, there really is some talented people in DCI.
The win that scored 99.65
1:15 The part that BD 2017 called back in Metamorph
It rivals Santa Clara 1989 and Cadets 1990 and Phantom Regiment 2008
Best of the best
very high quality cake recipe
Still the highest score in DCI history btw
I’d be surprised if anyone ever gets a higher score than 99.65
idk man between babylon and this its really hard to try and have a greatest show of all time
Not possible. Silly venture too.
I never noticed this before but a guard member drops a rifle at 5:47
Bounce
maybe that’s why they didn’t get a perfect score overall
@@joeisntcool2931there were some members who stepped off early and were late while jazz running during the show
they're not doing it like this anymore 😥
Highest score EVER in DCI compitition, a 99.65!!!
5:23 prokofiev piano concerto 2?
No way bd 2023 should beat this score
I don’t think they will, but I think they’ll break 99
FELIX
I never got to watch a dci show in my life, I’d say Blurcoats and Blue Devils went neck and neck with each other. While I do like how clean this one is, I feel blue coats put on a better show both music wise and visuals wise. Guess the judges just don’t like banan bread the
cinema
What song is the hit from at 11:20?
Not sure if this show would've gotten this score back in '05. 99.65
You're right. Because scores are all relative to shows that they are competing against. Can't compare '14 to 05. Just like how you can't compare '22 to '23
I liked tilt better. But this show was way too clean and deserved the win.
I just dont really get how this beat tilt
@@FBIVIBER much superior design and execution
11:19
That's the highest scoring DCI show ever? I'll say it's very very clean musically. Extrememly clean. I've seen cleaner visuals but they are really good. Not my cup of tea at all though. I think it's funny they they decided to have the color guard get their tits part way through.
and the chair lap dance lol, probably why its the highest rated show
I find it interesting that you say the visuals were the weakest part of the show when they got a perfect score in visual that year.
@@ChristopherNelson42 I literally saw people out of step at one point.
@@flame_half oh, my bad, I forgot that it was the audience’s opinions of judges scores that matter more that the actual judges scores. Also, if you saw it then give me a time stamp.
@@ChristopherNelson42 judges cant see everything at once, also no need to get pressed its literally a marching band show lol
how did you get 1080p60fps?
I ordered it p. Ebay 🤬
Watching in 2022 and Tilt is still better.
Ratio
FRRR
Yeah ok.... lol
No it's fucking not. The tilt itself is just a neat visual.
Amanda Brewer Tilt can be better..............as long as the Blue Devils are/were 2014 DCI Champions.
The word "Better" is not part of the scoring sheets.
People are entitled to have their own opinion and hold such ideas such as this show being the best show of all time, however I have never understood why people like this show so much I just can’t get behind it
It was obviously performed extremely well, as blue devils members are usually peak performers, I just don’t exactly like the show design itself
To each their own of course
I think that it’s probably because it’s unique in a way that not many other corps have done this film sort of approach like with the cameras and concept of cut and action etc in the show maybe? And yea I’m not a huge bd fan but something about it personally makes me like it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I’m with you. After Crown 2013 everything else looks and sounds average.
@@MrE_Smuv Tilt was amazing as well
@@legolas_ I agree. The closer in particular. The last minute of that show was fantastic.

i get how you could say this is one of the best shows from a technical aspect, like all the playing is very in tune and insanely clean but if i'm being honest nothing about it interests me. no parts of it really stand out and make you feel anything, i will never understand how this beat out tilt or how blue devils win almost every single year
If you think tilt should have beaten this you are nuts
While tilt was actually entertaining, this show was literally perfect in cleanliness and execution
because of that technical aspect. blue devils are incredibly good at cleaning their show to the point that they can outscore everyone just by the execution
You don't understand the activity then
Blue Devils know how to field shows that win.
Scoring is such a joke. But someone has to win, so...inflation and relativity. I would never think this were a 99.65 if I didn't know in advance.
To many props.
Nope
watch any modern bluecoats show and then come back to us whining about props ☠️
i don’t see why people complain about props, most of the time it’s people saying they miss “real dci” but they should at least be glad that DCI is evolving and isn’t a dead activity

I feel like it still should be mostly decided by how clean the Corp is.
What was Tilt about? What was the thematic argument? What was the subject? Start there.
No bro ❤️
you'll grow out of it as long as you keep becoming a better marcher and musician
I love the beginning and ballad.
Absolutely fantastic brass. Color guard could do better. 😊. The toxic environment of color guards....
Ya they just did. Won caption 2023
@coleforbes2059 lol. They have the funding. W cadets full of sex preds and all the other closing down. Hmm wonder
Honestly the bluecoats shops have one that year. Tilt in my opinion is one of the best shows dci has ever had!
Yea the execution is perfect, but I hate how this show won because it didn’t have the impact. If you watch the bluecoats show that got second, the entire crowd is SCREAMING for the last minute of the show. This show: nothing. Lol
If you think this didn’t have impact or heart, I just don’t think you’re human lol
@@clarkfitzgerald8814 I didn’t say no impact at all, just compared to most other shows that year. Read the rest of my comment.
@@gomac22 Exactly what impact did others shows have more than this show?
@@clarkfitzgerald8814 Did you not read my whole comment? The audiences reaction to every other show besides this one is all you need to know.
It was good show, a great show even. But I'm gonna need some of all on here to stop. If you want the most yechivally difficult ans perfectly executed drill, re The Cavaliers 2000 with Niagara Falls.
Really enjoyed Carpe Noctem and A Gangster Chronicle...and the great playing in As Time Goes By.
The uniforms drive me nuts. Can’t stand them. This show is amazing until you look at them.
