Nobody was beating SCV, but any other year this could have won. If you saw this in person it really made you jump out of your seat. The ballad was one of the best blends I've heard. I hate vocals in this activity bu the lounge singer theme really worked.
No fr like they did the vocals very right, it never overtook the show, blended with the ensemble, and served well both for solo moments as well as just a good texture
@@justinjohnson4278 still my favorite use of vocals so far. Probably my least favorite was Crown in 2017. There was one movement where that great Crown brass line was playing backup to a singer lol :D
@@dctrbrassCouldn’t agree more. I also don’t care for vocals, unless it adds to the show, like this does. Also agree with Crown 2017, but it’s close with 2005 Blue Devils (Yowza, Yowza, Yowza).
I'm not a fan of vocals either. I also didn't care for them in this show either. I'm sorry, it just doesn't sound "right" to me to hear vocals in drumcorps, and it likely never will. I didn't hate it though and believe me, that's saying a LOT for me regarding vocals. I enjoyed the brass parts and just tried to "tune out" the vocals as much as I could. You do what you can. I want to like every show but unfortunately, that's just not possible these days.
Agreed. Compare this to say, anything the Cadets have does with vocals, or most any other drum corps, this is infinitely better. Still not a fan of vocals in drum corps, though.
This show is just a power house all the way through, I sat almost in the middle where you get the good sound whenever I marched that year watching their show and they blew me away literally
One thing that this show proves is that dci (can be) is at it's best in one of two scenarios. When the crowd goes wild at 1000% volume or the exact opposite, then the entire stadium is filled to the brim with one gorgeous sound and everyone else is quite and/or listening
9:00 all the way to the end of God Bless the Child, tears me up so much. When the big hit happens it feels like im flying through the cosmos. Just pure utter euphoria.
I watched them place 1st in Canton, Ohio. Bought a t shirt as a memorial from the show(bought it before the show started so I wouldn't miss much when the show started). It was an awesome experience
FUN FACTOIDS: The number four is in the shape of a chair. Billie Holiday was 44 when she died. Billie Holiday went to prison for drug use, and when she got out she immediately played Carnegie Hall. (Her costume here has black and white stripes.) God Bless the Child was her anthem of independence from her mother.
this a tuba show fr. there’s a feature in the opener, a solo, then a feature, then a feature, then the ballad bassline. best year i’ve ever seen for bc contras
I am guilty of forgetting about this show, especially after seeming SCV live right after them back in 2018. But God Almighty, this hornline is the best Bloo hornline I think they’ve ever put in a field. THEY ARE LOUD AS FUCK. The attacks are so crisp. The sustains are so full. The tubas are godly. I think the only flaw is the trumpet solo in the ballad (I mean cmon arpeggiated trumpet ostinoto solo is just plain hard) but even still he did a damn good job.
Not being from the US, there's one thing about this I don't understand - who the **** is booing in the audience and why do they still have a full set of teeth?
I have not kept up with DCI for quite a long time, like 20 years. Recently I started to watch some shows again and I have to say that I abhor the trend of relying on vocal soloists, keyboards, guitars and pre-recordings and I am not really a fan of using microphones. Not that they are are bad per se but I am never emotionally moved by their usage. The vocals always seem consistently louder and use zero dynamics compared to the ensemble as a whole so balance is just out the window. We have plenty of musical options for vocals that span across the entire musical spectrum. DCI was special because it was a unique world of Brass and Percussion played with bravado and precision. But as is all things.. things change.

this show is so underrated. actually has to maybe be my favorite in dci
I love the melody
It's so smooth/soft idk how to even describe its warmth

I got chills at 8:35 , I have never heard a stadium go dead silent like that during a show.
I got to see this show in Nashville earlier in the season. 11,000 people and it was SILENT. Getting to soak that moment in was absolutely incredible.
It makes me cry, every time.
This was probably the most beautiful ballad I've heard in a while
8:50-10:28 is by far the BEST part of the while show. You can't change my mind about that.

This show has the best use of vocals in a show since they have been used. Not a fan of vocals, but worked well in this show.

I don’t like because I agree; I like because I respect.
Musically this show SLAPS! Was sooooo good live. Personally felt it deserved 2nd.
I think the judges get shot if BD doesn’t get at least 2nd

Such an underrated show
This one has really grown on me. Along with ‘15 it’s gotta be the best show they’ve done in the past decade.
Ever since 2014, they have not had many shows that have disappointed. Maybe 2017 but that’s about it
10:43-end is my favorite
6:44 the timbre here is SO GOOD
Ok, BUT THAT PING WAS MONEY
Literally one of the most boppin parts of a dci show I've seen in a while

god damn this feature is so hard. only bluecoats tuba feature i still haven’t taken the time to learn yet

this 100% would have won if scv didn't go in 2018
is it just me or is their hornline noticeably larger in this year than in any other recent year?
Last year we had that many tubas
so many props, imagine carrying all those onto the field
Call me whatever, the trumpet solo makes me tear up.
I need the trumpet solo. The ballad. I need it.
2:14 is so cool
10:40 silly trombone feature
Bird and bela was meant to be a more effective closer. This would have inched you to the bronze.

It's a tradition among bluecoats fans to yell "bloo" so that it almost sounds like they're booing
