Just so you know, you're saving my life right now! Lol! I never learned how to cook like a GOOD Puerto Rican that I should be, but I'm learning how to cook so much better for my fiance now because of you! YOU ARE WONDERFUL!
I really enjoyed your way of cooking tostones. I'm actually Mexican-American from Chicago and I grew up in a Puerto Rican neighborhood. My babysitter was Puerto Rican and she always fed my sister and I Puerto Rican food which till this day I love. I now live in Los Angeles and we don't have any Puerto Rican restaurants like we do in Chicago, so I have no choice but to cook Puerto Rican food myself which I've been doing a lot lately. This video was a good step by step instruction that will help me the next time I cook tostones....thank you.
They sure don't Hector. I'm from Jamaica Queens, hung out a lot in Brooklyn and the Bronx. African American. My childhood best friend is Puerto Rican, I love the food. I've not found any Puerto Rican Restaurants here either. I 've been learning to make my own. Best of all to you and cooking. Blessings to you.
6:11 You're too cute! After frying, I sprinkle mine with extra virgin olive oil, garlic, lemon, lime, and salt drizzle, which I mix together ahead of time. Tostones are addicting 😋😋
My mom used to just slice the platanos thin and fry them, but I just made them using the method you demonstrated and the difference is well worth the extra steps and time. Thanks for sharing!
Saludos, i am writing from the future(2020) in the middle of the Corona Virus pandemic....just wanted to say thank you for this wonderful video. those look amazing!!!!
My husband and I made them together today and with your perfect instructions it was so easy! However, the plaintains I bought on Thursday were green when I bought them but had ripened a little and weren't green enough so they came out sweeter than they should have been. But they were good! My husband told me next time to get the green ones the same day we make them. Thank you for your tutorial!
Thanks for your instructions! I am going to make them now and I am sure they are going to be great thanks to your video tutorial. The plates are a great idea! Muchas Gracias! Daisy : - )
Omg I've had a tostonera my whole life and had no idea what it was until you took yours out! 😭 I'm the worst cook but I'm trying to learn now, you make it so easy - thank you! Oh and btw my tostonera has a little circle indentation on the short side - your husband was right lol.

Thanks for showing us how to do it if you don't have the toston maker. I got my plantains sitting here and I'm like "how I'm gon' smush em without this lil gadget?"The two plates Idea is a good one! Tks! Also since the plates are bigger you can probably smush more than one at a time!
Can you make a video just discussing staple items (seasoning, sauce, etc) you have on hand in the kitchen to make your recipes? I'm basically asking for your shopping list lol
My dad always makes the tostones, I sort of watched and now that I crave them as an adult I burnt my first to batches....try and try again, thanks for the video! I realized my oil was too hot
I remember my mother using brown paper bags to smash the tostones. LOL! But we used minced garlic with oil as the dressing, well sometimes, not always.
So I have to fry them then press them When I did it a few weeks ago it did press out.. I am not spanish so I am learning how to cook spanish food. I love making roasted pork... :) Thanks for sharing. :) Cheryle

I add them to the dip.
my ex showed me how make these but not the salt water? I like your videos i just discovered them and thank you cuz i'm no longer with a Puerto rican and need these recipes
The salt water helps the plantain release the sap(they are slimy when you first cut them)
Hi, if I didn't have plantains on hand, could I use regular green bananas?
+Da Sugar Shack/ #Eye Want It I have never tried it with green bananas.
Q ricura, y hermana cuando tu poso cosina el q use la tosotonera como le da la gana

Your husband is right, Lol . Handle goes on top.

OMG thank you I had a little bit of a brain fart because I couldn't remember what it was called and I've been searching now for 30 minutes looking through your videos trying to find it see if you made it because I couldn't figure out what it was called and I should know better I mean I should be ashamed of myself because my mom makes them all the time so I just kind of felt a little tarded there for a minute LOL but thank you so much I will definitely be using a good portion of your recipes

Your husband is right. The handle gives you leverage to push down on the tostones.
How do yo keep them fresh & crispy after cooking? How do you store them!
samroxeva I usually don't have leftovers....So I have never stored them.
I usually dont have left overs either. But if I do i put them in a plastic container, the next day I put them on aluminium foil in the toaster oven on the bake setting, watch them though so you don't burn them.
you're the best
Can you bake them in the oven after you squash them?
Guillio Minguillo It wouldn't work. They would be too hard and dry
Yes, it seems like longer handle of the tostonera is meant to smash easily. Your husband is right :))
i can see it is HEREDITARY for Puerto Ricans to have the little yellow cutting board, my entire family has at least one in the cupboard even the family in the Carolinas...i just love that
i have also added garlic powder hope u try it :)
