I know this videos are a few years old but I want you to know I’ve learned a lot from you. My heritage is not Puerto Rician so I’m learning from the very beginning. You explain things very well.
Thank you for posting all your secrets! My husband is Puerto Rican and I'm a mutt. He grew up eating Puerto Rican cooking so I had to learn how to cook his favorite dishes. It's hard to find good Puerto Rican recipes so he decided to look up videos himself. He found yours and told me this was what he grew up on. Thank You for sharing. You saved me. Everything comes out delicious and I follow every thing exactly. I now have a happy, never hungry husband. Thank you!!!
Wish I could show you how my beans came out. Boy oh boy they came out amazing.. Thank you for recipes and keep sharing with us ur great cooking tips... I grew up in a Spanish neighborhood and my family being 1 of the 2 black family's in the building. I always loved the smell and taste of good spanish food. So I had to learn and came across ur show on utube. So I tried making ur stewed beans first. My neighbor said they taste better than her mom's. Then her mom tried it and she loved it. They asked me how did I learn how to make it and it taste so good. I said it's a awesome lady on utube and her show is "Sweets and Beyond." She is great! 👌👍🤗
Thank you for sharing this beloved recipe. So many people of ALL cultures LOVE Spanish rice and beans and it was very generous and gracious of you to share your awesome recipe. Thank you.
I made these beans about 5 months ago and it was AMAZING!! Followed the directions to the T. My family & friends loved, loved it.... I also made your sofrito. Making the beans again tomorrow for dinner with baked chicken.. Keep posting the great work.. Thank you
Hi Ida! I wanted to let you know I made this recipe and it turned out beautifully. The only difference is I used 822 grams of Goya's pink beans (the large can), 1/3 cup cubed ham, and 1 cup diced pumpkin. I also entered it into Calorie Count's website, and it comes in at only 177 calories per 1-cup serving. A very healthy and delicious dish! I'm loving your recipes and YT channel. Just wanted to say thank you for your efforts in sharing these recipes with the world!
I started soaking beans early this afternoon in anticipation of tomorrow. You CAN go back home... through the scents and tastes of good down-home food. Always takes me back to an innocent time, eating and sharing with family. Thank you! I have subscribed.
So, my parents are Puerto Rican. And my mom made this all the time for me when I was growing up. Now that I'm an adult with 3 kids I wanted to learn to make it as close as possible to her recipe. But we live so far away from each other. Your recipe is on point! Sooooooo delicious, just as I remember it. Thank you so much for posting this video. Now my kids get to enjoy a piece of my childhood:)
This is completely different than how my grandmother makes it (maybe a regional thing,) but everything you did makes sense! I can't wait to try this!!! Thank YOU!!!
I love this channel I as a single Puerto Rican man never really cooked . I always had my X wife cook and she is awesome but now I’ve learned and I’m ok this channels has fought me so much I thank u from my heart good job nena
We did it😁😁im part puerto rican and my wife is Jamaican our first time making these Puerto Rican beans and it came out perfect just like abuelita...thank you so much im making this every week....
TY for this boriqua recipe for fresh beans! Warms my 💔 heart! My abuelita was the best cook ever and I miss her brilliant touch to making simplistic dinners with such amazing savor! I tried to do pinto beans in the past and was never quite satisfied. Ik why now, I didn't soak them overnight! I will, this time! TY again. Stay safe 😷 QDLBS 💖🤘✌👊
Thank you so much for that recipe, I have been looking for a fresh and preservative free Puerto Rican beans recipe like this. My favorite meal is yellow rice, stewed red or black beans with grilled chicken on top :)
OMG thank you for putting up this video of habichuelas guisadas boricuas from scratch, listening to you and watching this fideo it reminds me of my islita bonita and my beautiful people, i live in mexico and i been looking for the receta here in youtube to make my husband this habichuelas. You have a new subscriber. Bleesing!!!!!!!!
Thank You for this recipe. I've always seen people make the dry beans on a pressure pot but I dont have one. And now I can make them with this video. Can't wait to try it....by the way, I had to subscribe to your channel because I followed your Rellenos De Papa video and I made them exactly how you made the video, and It came out DELICIOUS! Se fueron como pan caliente jajajaja. The only different thing I did was that I used turkey ground meat instead of beef. But everything else was very good. I'm actually thinking about selling rellenos De papa using your recipe. THANK YOU Ida. 😘👍👏
Thank you thank for this...... I live in Greece and was wondering how to make habichuelas. I’m from NYC and grew up with all my Puertorriqueño friends. I don’t have Goya products here. I miss my fooooood. Love you
I can't wait to try this- I usually cheat and use canned beans.. I never had it with squash before, I've only made it with potatoes. I will give squash a try! Thanks!
hi, thanks for the recipe....definitely going to use your recipe...looks so tasty. Wish you would show what the pumpkin looks like before you cut it up...I'm not familiar with PR vegetables and it would help if you would show this for us in the audience who are don't know. thanks
I literally just cooked this i had to rewind the video 20 times to get it just right lol but YO!!!!! My beans slapping now !! This Lady can Cook Cook lol
Hey I LOVEEEEE your recipes I've tried 5 diff dishes and they came out absolutely amazing... Can you do a video on Pernil? I am dying to make it it's one of my fav Hispanic dishes
I like watching you cook. You get right to the point and make it seem easy. One question. When all was in the pot I think you said it was done. It looked like soup to me. On the plate it looks much more dry with the white rice. Did you cook it down to get it thick and if so for how long? Thank you
I've made this with potatoes instead of pumpkin. I'd love the pumkin but my husband hates it. Thanks for doing a "from scratch" video. I wish we had a smell app on YT! I'm sure that was smelling awesome! LOL
Looks delicious can’t wait to try doing it myself. However, you said you can store about 2 cups in containers then store away in the freezer for a later time, when one wants to cook them. I wanted to ask if one puts the beans and liquid together in the container or do I strain and put the beans alone? 🤔 please help it’s my first time cooking fresh bag beans.😳
Hello Ida, Thank you for sharing this video! I started the process by soaking my beans, it's only been a few hours soaking and they look very wrinkled. Is that normal?

🤣🤣🤣🤣 So true!
LOL...true....I'm trying this recipe next week. My own attempts at making beans fails regularly :-)
I understand Spanish, but I like to listen to it in English better cuz she explains it more in detail.

And the calabaza is cooked separately first, then you add them! Was just curious how you cooked yours!
Paloma Healing I’m wondering the same thing hope she responds
I can smell the sofrito ❤️
Lovely 🥰👍🍀❤️❤️❤️
Que vaina que se ve bueno.
Gonna be trying this😊
They are so good! I had a few teenagers over when I made them and they almost ate the pot!
Hey I LOVEEEEE your recipes I've tried 5 diff dishes and they came out absolutely amazing... Can you do a video on Pernil? I am dying to make it it's one of my fav Hispanic dishes
Barb Thank you so much!
Love the video, but surprised you didn't add any onion. I also do potatoes but pumpkin also tastes great. Thanks for sharing.
The sofrito has onions in it. You're welcome! I didn't have potatoes lol
Jmm, ¿tiene ventaja comprar las de bolsa en lugar de las enlatadas?
it looks amazing. I think you should use a wooden spoon though when using those types of pots so your not scratching the bottom of the pan..
when you put beans in the container do you add the liquid as well as 2 cups of beans?
I like watching you cook. You get right to the point and make it seem easy. One question. When all was in the pot I think you said it was done. It looked like soup to me. On the plate it looks much more dry with the white rice. Did you cook it down to get it thick and if so for how long? Thank you
You can cook it for 30 minutes until the liquid reduces to your liking
Trying this recipe today
Hi there! Thank you for the recipe. Can you use pinto beans for the recipe?
I've made this with potatoes instead of pumpkin. I'd love the pumkin but my husband hates it. Thanks for doing a "from scratch" video. I wish we had a smell app on YT! I'm sure that was smelling awesome! LOL
I usually put potatoes also...didn't have any so I put in pumpkin. I'm the one who doesn't like pumpkin, my hubby loves it.
I was thinking the same thing about the smell.
Please tell me how to make the potatoes for this dish I would use that instead of pumpkin
Beans with the liquid
Sweets and Beyond
Love and tutorials, thank you for them and responding 😊
Hello Ida, Thank you for sharing this video! I started the process by soaking my beans, it's only been a few hours soaking and they look very wrinkled. Is that normal?
Yes it is!
