      Was she the head, or were we all just dead inside? I didn't see that episode until sometime in the early 2000s, and I just remember feeling sad. James was still respected. I didn't feel as though he was being replaced by a feminist agenda, but rather it was life.
      Perhaps it's time to look back into the history of it, and I'll see something else.

    • @mrgrahamtu
      @mrgrahamtu Год назад +1

      It wasn’t easy but it was very tasteful and as properly executed as one could imagine. Give some credit to the fact this WAS NOT EASY FOR RG or any of the writers. And they still did an excellent job. Learn how to see the beauty in things instead of thinking you could do better. If you got a great idea, I’d love to read it

    • @ShayP76

      There was nothing tasteful about incorporating the real life death of the actor in this fictional story. To think that was possibly the same way Chadwick died with his family around trying to wish for the inevitable not to happen. For them to put that in the movie is far from well done or tasteful!!!

    • @mrgrahamtu
      @mrgrahamtu Год назад

      Everyone’s opinion does count and I hear/read ya! It seems you are definitely in a small minority though. Not sure what anyone could say that was logically distasteful about that scene. I don’t think RG ever said they wrote that scene to be the same as what happened to CB in real life. And why you are equating the two, I don’t get? But you are in the camp of recasting. I get that.
      My guess is they had many options on the table for how they wanted to show TChallas death and choose what that could best execute.

    • @ShayP76
      @ShayP76 Год назад

      @@mrgrahamtu so let me ask you, have you ever known someone who died from cancer? Have you stayed by someone as they slowly slipped away? That’s what was portrayed in the beginning of that film which in fact could have been how things went for Chadwick. You don’t have to be told what is going on to understand what is going on. RG and NM has made it to where the actor and the character are one in the same and they are not! To have him die of an undisclosed illness, one that he kept secret -much like Chadwick- is definitely mirroring the death of CB. Also it is not consistent with the character we have been shown T’Challa to be. So yes, it was very distasteful!

    • @blaxpoitation8528
      @blaxpoitation8528 Год назад +2

      @@mrgrahamtu It was tasteful? How?? It boggles my mind how ppl have this weird sense that somehow the CHARACTER needs to have the same fate as the ACTOR. It was horrible done. T’Challa was killed off screen in the most unheroic way. Plus, the fact that he didn’t tell his family, his kingdom and left his son. So he’s a bad son, a bad king and a bad father. Plus, they made T’Challa a hypocrite. They did T’Challa extremely dirty.

    I believe the comics retroactively established Namor as also being a mutant for some reason. But it was never a big aspect of his character. It was mostly just a bit of Marvel trivia that Namor was also technically a mutant, even tho he never had much to do with Mutants or the X-Men.

    They should have recasted the actor. Black Panther the character is bigger than any actor. Many ppl have played james bond, spiderman, superman etc. A character does not die becos an actor who played it died. This is just bad storytelling. Black Panther as a symbol is bigger than an actor. There are plenty of talented black actors in hollywood who should have been given the opportunity to try thier take on the legendary character. Killing of the character is a disservice to the fans.

    Gratitude.. I'm at the point I'll see it when I see it when I can watch it with objective eyes.. which is fair bc this movie was not marketed to me anyway, somewhat how politicians don't campaign my demographic.. I know we just suppose to clamp on suit like a clip on tie but appreciate the performers & respect the director.. they are put in to a position they gotta work what they got, so I'll see it when I ain't hot about done of the choices made concerning this film.. honestly, the release just make me want to see the first one again to appreciate the message & masterpiece of that film one more time.. I notice, when the conglomerate doesn't expect it do numbers the director & performers have more room for a free creativity, once the know what they got, co-opt it to market what is important to 'them' to make it important to us.. style is one thing, substance it's another.. the priority determines the creativity, performance gotta work wit what they got.. movies are suppose to be an escape from realism not a campaign to construct a new realism for viewers to adopt.. a good movie allows you to ponder within not tell you how to think.. the press alone already dropped the ball on that one.. I'll see how it shake in due time

    It actually ties in with African spirituality and is literally written (in Wakandan) in the thrown room, “as above so below”. Being that the two civilizations have fought in the comics, I think basing Atlantis after Wakanda and giving them a historical cultural backdrop was the best move to make. An actual Atlantis, with soace age technology out of nowhere like in Aquaman, would have been less interesting if not just outright silly or stupid. Namor would not have been as interesting, and everyone would have complained that Killmonger was a much better villain, because Namor would not have been so relatable or acted as a foil to the main character. Being of both Mayan and Kenyan decent, and having studied both cultures in college, I can tell they indeed do a lot of research into the Mayan culture and aesthetics and beliefs. It wasn’t not portrayed the best way and did feel rushed but the details were all there if you know what you’re looking at, brief flashes show an incredible amount of detail went into Talocan and the clothing of the people. It was not stated explicitly, so a lot of the motivations are likely to go over most peoples heads, as it did in the first Black Panther, where most white audiences just saw another super hero and didn’t realize all the coded symbolism that spoke to the generational trauma and the diaspora. Kukulkan having a Spanish name that he resents, is especially fitting as Spanish is a second language in a lot of indigenous pockets of Latin America. His Spanish name meaning “without love”, being appropriate for the character of Namor, his comic name meaning “avenging son, here meaning basically the same thing but with some sazon. Spanish is the language spoken by his oppressors, and in Spanish Sun Amor has connotations of evil and devilish mess, which is exactly what Namor is in the comics. He sees the whole surface world as Spaniards, with Wakanda being the only exception, which I think is a brilliant move to bring Namor and Atlantis into the MCU in such a grounded and based film like Black Panther that carrys the themes of colonialism and preserving one’s culture in the modern age.

    They didn't even have any grievances in the beginning...just mutual interests. It was essentially what Roger Ebert called a "dummy plot" that only exists because the primary characters are dummies who don't talk to each other. The same resolution could have been reached by sitting down and talking right in the beginning. This plot was as dumb as the idea that the most advanced nation in the world would select its king in a trial by physical combat.
    Why would Namor think that by killing the scientist who created the vibranium sniffer, the US could not build another one? Did he think the scientist didn't leave any notes? That the US government built a machine without having the plans? Dummy rationale for a dummy plot.
    What does it say about Ramaoda and Namor as leaders that they were both are so quick to sacrifice their people in war rather than talk for a few hours about how neither actually has a problem with each other, but both have the exact same mutual problem with the rest of the world? "Let's not worry about how dumb the scenario is, let's get on to the action and explosions and killing!"

Using a culture that was wiped from the earth for their land and resources in a movie where America is literally willing to destabilize a country for their resources is a perfect parallel but you're right there should be a specifically Hispanic hero but there's one on the horizon. Miles morales is black and Hispanic and he's allegedly coming soon. With the mentality explained in the point you made, is he gonna be a hero for black ppl or Hispanic ppl? He literally put them in their places. His crime is that he wasn't in the film more probably due to the over exposure of women. It's a good Wakandan film but it sucks as a BP film because it almost had nothing to do with BP. Riri Williams I will agree was just wasted space. Nothing inspiring about her character. People didn't like her comic book counterpart, not much gonna change your mind here about her. Namor could had been another character. Eric July would be caught saying "legitimacy in white characters" again about Hispanic Namor. Yeah, Namor did feel emasculated at the end. They played right into the M-She-U haters with this movie
    The premise: Let's show how black men are irrelevant and let's use Chadwick Boseman's death to do it. In the first film you could tell that men and women were very close and this was one of the major strengths of Wakanda. No more. Let's get rid of that narrative for no reason and downplay the unity that made Wakanda great.
    Also what was the point of killing the Queen of Wakanda? It was like; how dare this woman stand up to the UN. We need to take these Wakandans down a peg, by showing that with all that tough talk even the queen of Wakanda and all of Wakanda's military advancements could not protect this most cherished woman in the end. While we are at it, let's lessen the technological and the strategic military might of Wakanda. If they wanted to get rid of the queen she should have become a political envoy to other countries, just in case Bassett would like to come back to the role later.
    And finally Riri Williams. It is like they went above and beyond to make her a Mary Sue. Shuri in this regard was not much better. One needs to train to become proficient as a black panther. Hollywood seems at many stages to not be able to write female characters and do not put much effort into it. In this movie Riri received the Obi Wan Reva treatment. By comparison, in HOTD and Andor the writers are rather adept at writing female characters, so the audience knows it is not impossible.
    All in all this movie was a mess.

I agree with the preference for this new Namor and his people to have a solo movie instead of lumping them in with the Wakandans and most copying their origin, but what they did show left me wanting more and I don’t know how else they would’ve restored the heart-shaped herb. Burning it made sense for Killmonger but was bad for the series. I look forward to more in depth analysis of the writing as time passes. To use the Spill/Double Toasted rating scale, I call it a Matinee. I think the MCU has jaded some people that they’re reading more into some events than is there because of past releases being more prominently “woke” and antagonistic.
