Yeah, once Boseman died, Marvel used his death as an excuse to fast-track their M-She-U agenda, and kill off the male superhero T'Challa. 4 Thor films, 3 IM films, 3 Cap films, 3 Antman films, multiple Spider-Man & Batman films w/6 actors "recasted". But T'Challa?...nope... only 1 film, & he's got to go now. Total disrespect to the character T'Challa, all to push an agenda.

Why do some film &/or book writers seem to like suggesting that competent, strong, virtuous Black women AND men are mutually exclusive of each other?
In some ways the most heroic character in the first film was Killmonger's father. Killmonger himself was too ruthlessly corrupted. T'Chaka too heartlessly inflexible. W'Kabi was a traitor. M'Baku a Luddite. T'Challa himself was too naive of his father's actions, and money of his better character elements were symphonies off to supporting characters ( like giving Shuri his genius). So yeh, the women really shined in the first film. Many of us longtime Black Panther accepted that, expecting to see more of "our" T'Challa in HIS 2nd film right? Instead Coogler & co. exploited Chadwick Boseman's tragic passing to push the "mantle" bs on us, and pointlessly discard the ONLY fully positive Black male left in the franchise. There are actually many Black women who didn't want T'Challa killed off for Shuri; called "traitors" by "feminists" in the "kill T'Challa" camp.
Sometimes I wonder if there's an agenda to generate resentment between Black women & men. Wouldn't be the first time for something like that.
At one point in U.S. history emancipated Black people and women suffragettes were being manipulated against each other, so that ... others could hold on to the real controls.

It's not really so much the messaging as it is that people whose message is the primary reason for the movie can't seem to write entertaining movies. It's the same reason few Christian movies are good (and I say that as a Christian). It's possible to make a show that's diverse but entertaining. It's possible to make shows with strong female leads that are entertaining. But when the story itself was written for no other reason than to display diversity or strong womanhood...that's not going to be a good story.

Regardless of covid or anti feminist resentment; expecting this film to earn as much money as the original was never realistic.
A big chunk of the 1st film's box office came from groups of people, like families, repeatedly going to see their new cinema icon, again & again. Because, save for a few sciences, it was a "feel good" movie. Disney/MARVEL actually promoted this film starting out with a funeral scene for T'Challa; and lots of people had no wish to see that heroic icon be dead & discarded even once. WHY the £¥({ would/should all those parents be expected to put their kids through such a negative experience even once, let alone repeatedly?!?
Based on the inability/unwillingness of some anti-recasters to distinguish between Chadwick Boseman and the character he played; I've long felt some of those in the "kill T'Challa" camp had a ... tenuous grip on reality. Can't help but wonder about anyone who really expected folks to spend more, or even as much, money seeing this multi layered insult of a film under any circumstances.

To be 💯 this should have been a Disney Plus show, a stepping stone to a better Black Panther sequel. Taking it a step further they should’ve just recasted T’Challa. T’Challa story was just starting literally just ramping up, just because Chadwick Boseman died doesn’t mean T’Challa dies. This wouldn’t have hurt his Chadwick’s legacy by any mean at all. But by doing this T’Challa’s Legacy in the MCU is hurt. This is all being said by a real Black Panther fan, not a 2018 Black Panther fan. Disney MCU Coogler dropped the ball on this one. By them making Shuri Black Panther and killing off T’Challa. That’s why I had 0 interest in seeing Wakanda Forever. Something I was looking forward to seeing since 2018 to completely being like I’m good on this one in 2022 had nothing to do with the pandemic, or anything else other than that whatever story was going to be told was going to be lackluster and weak. There were other choices for sure, but making Shuri the Black Panther was the worst one. After Chadwick Boseman died they should’ve just took a step back in general and came up with an actual plan, instead of quickly making the decision to not recast T’Challa, even if you went down this route you could still bring him back later on, but Wakanda Forever shouldn’t have been a movie when it would have made a better Disney Plus limited series.

I think another affecting the poor perfomance of phase 4 might be the lack of overall story coherency and each movie possibly contradicting or retconning the ones preceding it. For example, stephen strange introduced us to the concept of multiverses and alternate dimensions existing simulaenously with the main universe which I'll call MCU-prime.
Then, avengers endgame goes to contradict it with the ability t use pym particles to travel to alternate universes while relegating the ifinity gems which were imprortant to the previous film to the background. Then loki further contradicts endgame by stating that infinity gems cannot be used outside of their original dimensions/universes which invalidates the final act of the endgame.
Phase 1 to 3 were liked because regardless of the quality of the individual movies because there was a level of overall coherency and contunity tying the movies and phases together with none trying to undermine the others, an issue plaguing comic books with retcons and reboots long before the disney buyout.
Now it looks like Kevin Fiege isn't naviagating the train behind the scenes and it's graudally becoming more obvious to casuals with Fury not bothering to contact Danvers to provide support during the chitauri invasion(Avengers 1) and the Ultron incident(Age of Ultron).
No proper explanation as to why Hydra was not aware of another shadow organisation existing that could be a threat to them (Black Widow) while killing anyone who's even slighty aware of someting wrong with the ir existence(The winter Soldier).
They said they'll take the response to phase 4 and course correct but I'm not optimistic about that at all.

Wakanda and The Black Panther are LITERALLY symbols of True Black Power.

The Black Panther/T'Challa character has always been too "positively Black" for some people.
Shortly after Lee & Kirby introduced T'Challa, DC comics responded to BLACK PANTHER, & his independently prosperous Black Africans w/ BLACK mANTa, a Black character whose initial motivation for villainy was wanting an independent Black homeland.
Don McGregor, writer of one of thee best Black Panther series, faced resistance from within Marvel when he decided to write about Wakanda as an all Black nation, instead of writing about a Tarzan type. Writer Christopher Priest's series was another of thee best; until he was "incouraged" to bring in 1/2 White Kasper Cole as a new BP ( maybe getting closer to being a nice "relatable. Tarzan type?), and sales plummeted so fast T'Challa couldn't be brought back in time to save the series. T'Challa wed Orroro/Storm culminating a long relationship (Years for us real folk, decades for them), becoming mainstream comix first Black "power couple". Voices within Marvel were among those saying it was an "unrealistic cliche" because they were both Black (never such problems w/ White couples). So they were broke up, so she could be Wolverine's bed wench.
Some voices didn't want there to ever be a Black Panther movie; or if so, for BP to anything but a straight Black man. Even though he still was, many of his best character attributes were siphoned off to his support characters, and he didn't get much chance to standout in his own movie. When Chadwick Boseman passed, some of those voices took the opportunity to join the "kill T'Challa" camp to assure he'd get no chance to standout in "his" sequel. Also some wanting to kill the chance of T'Challa & Orroro getting together in the MCU.
Meanwhile in comix, writer John Riddley seems hellbent on undermining any chance of a reconciliation of T'Challa & Orroro.
Some of us might indeed think there's an agenda against certain positive aspects of the Black Panther. But I'm sure those other voices, within & without Marvel/DISNEY; would just say we're being over sensitive &/or paranoid. Not like there's a discernible pattern, is there?

Damn, even the first movie had sucess in attract women to see Michael B Jordan and Chadwick fighting shirtless. They don't know even what the average straight women likes to see too.

Dam near all the other Black "super" heros are lame and need some white person to give them powers🤷‍♂️💯🤦‍♂️. (Falcon, war machine, etc)They don't even have real super powers🤷‍♂️💯..
If you know the real lore BP was 100% self made and so was Wakanda!
The Great Stan Lee made sure the Black Panther character was handled with respect when he was here..

$800 million is a failure? Cooler revised plot is product of Chad's unfortunate passing. This second BP movie wasn't released in china where the 1st made over $105 million! Let's enjoy our movies and stop searching for controversy.

It's a failure when it's half the earnings of the original, for a film that costs about twice as much as the original.
Maybe this 2nd BP movie would've been released in China if it had focused on the true core character instead of discarding him, (which was innately controversial no search needed); to focus on a hodgepodge of other stuff.
Maybe we'll be able to "enjoy our movies" when they don't discard what we want from them, in favor of what the producers think we'll have no choice but to accept.

Just the opposite! Most sequels underperform the original. Keep in mind this sequel was rejected by the China market for having an LGBTQ scene. That rejection likely cost the movie $150 million at the box office.

I watched it and I thought it was a clever way to hale in the new Black Panther as it would have been crazy too try and replace Chadwick Boseman. So by building it up to bring in baby Black Panther was the smartest way too do it. The writing could have been tighter and he should have consulted the comic and brought in a co-writer with a graphic novel background to help build that story arc. Some of the action scenes could have been better choreographed and killing off the queen was a mistake as Angela Bassett is the ultimate Badass action queen and she was grossly under used, Riri was poorly written and should have just been a cameo. Plus we must also remember the whole of the woke media turned against Letitia Wright because she chose not to get the jab and actually wanted her sacked and where constantly leaking fake stories about the production. The massive woke backlash definitely played a part in turning the audience off. As a Black Panther fan of the original comics I am looking forward to Black Panther 3.0.

Get real. The media never turned against Letitia. Some folks on black Twitter did a year ago but that was about it.

And another reason why those other listed movies have done better, is because those are white casted/directed films that draws more interest from white consumers, who are majority populated. They have a larger population pool to patronize their product.

Then how do you explain the overwhelming success of the first film? Y'know, aside from how the 1st introduced a new, universally embraced heroic cinematic icon; while this inferiorly written sequel discarded that hero whom so many viewers of the 1st film wanted more of?
