    Hey! How ya doin’? I hope you’re doin’ well! Black Panther Wakanda Forever shocked me.
    I’ve always been a fan of Ryan Coogler, but lately the MCU, Phase 4, has been a pretty messy.
    I thought Thor: Love and Thunder was a Bad Joke, I thought, I still think, the MCU needs some huge changes, but Wakanda Forever, might just be How To Save The Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s a meme, HiTop Films MCU videos tend to be, but hopefully this one rings true.
    The filmmaking on display, the emotion, the lack of bathos, all of it builds to what I believe is the best of Phase 4, hence the title, Wakanda Forever - The Best of Phase 4. Thank you for watching, listening, supporting this Wakanda Forever Review, this MCU Video Essay.

      Although the homage to Chadwick at the beginning and end of the film was beautiful, the plot itself was very weak. Very little character development for characters new and old like Riri and Namour was a poor iteration of the classic character. The motivations of certain characters were very questionable. Plus, for a 2 hr 41 min movie, we didn't get to see the new Black Panther until the very end. I respect the fact that people enjoyed the movie, but to be honest, it wasn't for me.

    I loved how the movie didn’t feel like to rush things out and let some things simmer, and the power of silence was utilized to deliver certain emotional scenes right from the Marvel logo. It’s like they trusted the audience to feel what they want to feel without holding their hands, and again these moments were slow yet solemn. Perfect for mourning.

    I love that she goes through a very similar story to her brother, she is grieving for her brother, and does not believe or find comfort in her culture. And it's so powerful how even her culture starts to push against her, when she goes to the ancestral plain she does not see her ancestors to guide her she sees the man who rejected their culture just like she does, and it messes with her, now she not only feels pain over loss but pain over rejection, and even in all of that pain when it looks like she will become exactly like her cousin, it is her memory of her mother, of her brother that reminds her that we can not be like our enemies we have to be better.

    I appreciate how Marvel treated this film as tribute to Chadwick Boseman and didn't overstuffing it with too much of their typical humor and quips like TL&T. Sure the film have it's fun moments (specially Shuri and Okoye interactions) but it's not overused, giving the film more quiet moments, letting character show more emotions and development and allowing scenes to have bigger impact.

    • @sunnysied713
      @sunnysied713 Год назад

      Wakanda Forever was an exploitation of Boseman's death. Boseman and T'Challah died in the same way. They both died from a mysterious disease and kept it secret from people. The entire movie milked Boseman/T'Challah's death from start to finish, to end credits.

    • @alexandrefrauches132
      @alexandrefrauches132 Год назад +6

      @@sunnysied713100% disagree. Not only the story is well told but having T'chlla dying from disease is nice way to put the characters in the same spot as cast, dealing with the lost of their main hero, with the film whole message being about moving on. which is theme present in Black Panther until now. The story isn't just about Tchalla death but also the effect it has on the character and how Shuri deal with trauma, specially after suffering another loss in the film.

    • @sunnysied713
      @sunnysied713 Год назад +1

      @@alexandrefrauches132 Just because you disagree, that doesn't mean you're right. It's very tasteless to kill a character in the same fashion as the actor. Boseman wouldn't be happy that T'Challah died in the same way as he did. That's very creepy and disrespectful. Also, Boseman would've prefer the T'Challah to continue (recast) or, at a minimum, that T'Challah die a heroic death while fighting for his people and Wakanda. He didn't have a noble death, especially not one befitting of a King, a Protector, or a Superhero Icon.
      Next, by exploiting the death of Chadwick Boseman, the writers unethically amplified the emotional response of the audience. It was emotional manipulation that depended heavily on outside knowledge of real-life events involving the actor. If the audience never knew that Boseman had died, then they would be absolutely surprised, confused and annoyed with the writing. After Endgame, T'Challah had just returned from the blip, from the dead. He was a triumphant, returning King. Fireworks. Applause. Then he drops dead off-screen, from natural disease, in his sequel movie. Now, he's in a casket. There was no writing set-up to earn an emotional response from the audience (other than he's coding and we can't help him). The audience NEEDED to read the obituary of Boseman. That's a underhanded and dirty writing trick. I never thought Marvel Studios would play so dirty. Profit trumps ethics.

    • @alexandrefrauches132
      @alexandrefrauches132 Год назад +7

      @@sunnysied713 Just because that's your opinion doesn't mean it's right either.
      I thought was bold move having T'challa dying from disease. Not only prevents them from recasting or using CGI (both ways would feel even more disrespectful) but also gives areality shock to this universe of super heroes: tragedy is unexpect and hits you when you less expect, even super heroes. Not every one has heroic death in battlefield. Sometimes is something out of their control.
      The characters journey in the film mirrors the state of the cast as well the fans, all having to deal with Boseman death and how the franchise will work without him. They won't recast him but can't ignore T'challa. The conclusion, with the Shuri coming to terms with T'challa death and that while couldn't save T'challa, she can save his legacy, with the memories of her brother inspiring Shuri in the end, is the film giving powerful message to audience, that Boseman may be gone, his legacy shall live on by the actors he inspired as well in memories of his friends, family and his fans.
      To quote Black Panther
      "“In my culture, death is not the end. It’s more of a stepping off point."

    Black panther has always been one of my favorite avengers, mostly from previous media like avengers: earth mightiest heroes, and I admit, I’m not the biggest fan of the first movie. But this one has actually become one of my favorites in the Mcu in general. Shuri’s arc of grief and even faith hit me right in the feels. I found namor to be a pretty good villain even with the changes, and as someone who finds the iron heart character to be annoying, I actually liked riri more than I thought I would. I enjoyed the slower pace, becuase it felt like for once it wasn’t a rush to make the story happen.

    Your take on the film has truly calmed my anti-marvel phase I was thinking after watching it and the experience from the films.
    It's funny how we've all got the Endgame high of looking for every detail, every Easter egg for the next phase but we forget to just enjoy the film. To enjoy the passion poured into a project that felt impossible to try, impossible to move on from.
    Again, it's not perfect, and it doesn't need to be. Everything can be improved with time and correction but was have is enough. This filmed paid homage to a person who seemed to embody the tropes of both the character he played, but also the ones we all looked up to in our own lives.
    He wasn't perfect, but he made us feel in a way I think very few people have had an impact on.
    I'm still in a limbo of whether I'll enjoy marvel again, but this has closed the lid on simple movie goer having enjoyed a good film. Thanks for the awesome take dude 🙏🏾

    I'm glad you enjoyed it, but it left me entirely cold. Yes, I agree with you that it was the best film of Phase 4, and yes I agree with you on a number of other points (costuming was better than the first film, the first act treating Namor as a force of nature or classic unseen movie monster was great), but I think it collapsed under the weight of the rewritten script, Disney's 'We'll charge you today for a better story tomorrow' mentality and other problems. Never for a moment did I believe the film would let Shuri 'burn the world', so her grief went from touching and powerful to boring as I waited for the eventual redemptive moment. Namor's people never felt like a true threat to Wakanda, even during the flooding. But that's going to be a problem of scale moving forward: we saw what Wakanda could do in Infinity War, and in this they had a handful of ships. Consistency matters.

I loved every bit of it and i was surprised when shuri was less funny and more serious, Its like when spiderman (toms version) was serious in the end of nwh. Sure it had some flaws like with when namor attacked wakanda because the cgi in some parts was a bit off but other than that the movie was almost perfect and the message of hatred and revenge hit me. I left the cinemas feeling good and i felt hope for the new movies that might come from the mcu. The only problem is that not everyone gets it, not everyone understands the meaning of the movie. For example my family said it was garbage and a waste of time and i just didn't understand them. These are just my thoughts and every time you upload it puts a smile on my face :)

    I really loved Wakanda Forever. Definitely up there with Loki as the best of Phase 4 IMO. There were some gripes, but overall I really loved the movie. Like the visual effects were really fantastic compared to other MCU outings lately, and the characters were really well rounded. Letitia and Ryan did a really good job in turning Shuri into an awesome character, using her traits of her arrogance and intelligence as coping mechanisms for the death of her brother and mother’s death. Though I didn’t gel with the colonizer plot, I know that part of the film wasn’t made for me. Namor was Killmonger but BETTER. Loved this performance and the story. Overall, great film.

    Even as someone who doesn't hate phase 4 as much as some other people (definitely the weakest phase, but still more hit and miss than out and out bad, I'd say), Wakanda Forever absolutely blows it all out of the water (no pun intended). The characters felt real, there were moral shades of gray all throughout the movie, the world building for Talokatlantis was great without fully dominating the movie and saving plenty of threads for later (casually name dropping Namora and Attuma, I see you)
    *HERE BE SPOILERS*
    Probably my favorite thing about this is the fact that, thanks the heavens, there's no asspull third act villain that unites the two sides. I was so sure that was gonna happen, it's the easiest way (and most narratively unsatisfying, but ya know...) to make people realize Namor and his people aren't so bad after all, right? But no, they let Namor be the antagonist throughout the whole movie. They allowed us to understand and empathize with his character while also letting him do some pretty dark shit like killing Queen Ramonda. Some have asked if he can truly be redeemed after this, but I mean, come on, Loki's sitting right there in the phase 4 lineup. If Dragon Ball can have half their heroes be guilty of messed up stuff, then Marvel can too.
