    My favorite exercise I'll literally sit there for like an hour just playing different variations of this at the fastest speed possible while still maintaining precision. That's the secret to playing Dimebag or Zakk Wylde licks like this. Don't try to force it. Stay loose and just let your whole body flow like water. That's the secret to everything really. Ever notice how people who are the best at everything always make it look easy? Cuz it is easy to them. Stay relaxed and if you struggle maintaining that flow even at slower speeds just break whatever your playing down into smaller parts so you can play precise. I was self taught and hit a plateau for like 10 years and could never play stuff like this cuz I was tense and my technique sucked. Then I noticed how my favorite players don't look all tense like me. So I slowed everything down, strummed/picked a little harder so I can maintain that natural swinging motion in my wrist and let gravity work in my favor not against me. I never thought I'd be where I am now with my playing. But I've learned more in two years playing than the 15 years of playing prior. Everyone thinks this lick and others like it is hard to play but it really isn't. It's fun and when you get it down right it'll feel effortless. Almost like it's not really even you playing. Love this video btw man!

      Very true

    • @DocumentsFilms
      @DocumentsFilms 3 месяца назад

      Not actually true bro
      Your words are very similar to words of famous people about their success.So be yourself,dream your dreams,be motivated,work hard and one day they will all become true.But it is soooo easy to speak like that when you've already succeeded in something.Not everyone will be a famous person even if they will do all this stuff literally.
      So it's the same thing with the guitar playing.Of course when you've somehow managed to play this stuff it all looks simple for you bro.I'm playing guitar almost 6 years (in common with some breaks for a while),so i still don't get how you guys can play this crazy shit lightning fast.I can't play fast,can;t play fast at all.I've tried different hand positions,different picks,defferent angles.So it all had no sense,i'm still slow af man,ahah
      This is why i actually gave up playing guitar,almost.
      So in my opinion-some people can play guitar easily and those crazy licks are so simple for them to play,but for some people it is absolute hell.

      @@DocumentsFilms Unless you've had an injury or are old what the guy said is true. Don't try for force it, stay relaxed, STAY RELAXED. You play it while relaxed, at the speed where you don't make mistakes. You'll be able to do it eventually. Do it an hour a day for a week straight and see what happens

    • @brianw.6718

      @@WItowsky Exactly man. It's really science if you think about it. I use the concept of inertia a lot in my playing and Zakk Wylde does too. Inertia will give you THE best technique 100% of the time. You can tense up a little and lock your wrist into place if you want but over time it'll just wear you out. Most people pick with their wrist or shoulder/arm. I pick with my whole body. What I mean by that is I move my fingers, wrist, arm and shoulder all together. I'm not saying to LITERALLY use your whole body. I'm saying that for me personally (and many others as well), I used as much of my body as I need to in order to stay fluid. Think of picking like a cylinder in an engine. A lot of motorcycles use single cylinder combustion. And cars use multiple cylinders. Multi-cylinder engines aren't just a bunch of random pistons jumping around at random. They move in a specific timing and order. They balance each other out so that when one is going up, another one is going down. It keeps the car's suspension smooth and level. It's all about sustaining the energy from that initial gas spark/combustion. Guitar picking is just like that. Your muscle memory changes over time and you'll find yourself focusing on the next following note. A good example of that can be realized even with just a classic two note/two string repetition exercise. Let's say... You're playing the third and fourth string on the 5th and 7th fret. When you play it enough, you'll be able to do it with little effort. What really helped me learn all this is kinda funny actually. For a year or two I was playing in bed a lot with my sleeping gf beside me. I didn't want to wake her up so I played really quiet and gently. After a while playing that way it embedded my muscle memory and helped me play faster but without overexerting my energy. Total accident but it ended up working in my favor. Anyway, so the next step is to train yourself to accent and focus on the cycle of the whole exercise, not each individual note. It's a four note lick. So when you play the first 4 notes to complete a cycle, you pluck harder on the following note that all the other notes. It'll eventually feel like you're ONLY playing that one note and the rest of the notes are just in autopilot. When you can do that comfortably and in perfect timing, playing fast solos are suddenly possible for you. It's like you just broke a barrier and now your playing has totally changed. And you'll advance faster within a couple months than you did with your first DECADE of playing guitar.

      @@DocumentsFilms Dude I literally didn't say even one of those things about "success". And not it's not "EASY" to say after you've already succeeded. Re-read the comment. I clearly said I had been stuck in a plateau for at least 10 years with absolutely no progress at all. So I know exactly how it feels to struggle with your progress and believe you'll never get better. I practiced for hours everyday. I can't even imagine how many hours I played for those 10 years. So yeah I earned that shit lol.
