Zakk Wylde absolutely killing it live with Ozzy Osborne live at the Budokan, Tokyo Japan, 2002

I just had this crazy realization that Zakk is probably what Kirk Hammett thinks he sounds like 😂 😂
That´s so spot on that shoud become an expectation/reality meme
@@tubo777 It became a meme the moment he typed this.. From now on I'll add this comment to every YT video that mentions Hammett, finally a worthy New Year's resoltuion!
In his dreams...good one lol
@@MrTubularBalls Man U mfs love to hate on Kirk he just enjoys playing guitar like everyone else. U forget How tight and crazy he was for his time before Zakk was even a fkn thing. I promise u Zakk would praise Kirk seems Kirk is the one who made wah actually sound good seems Maiden and priests attempts were shit. But again this solo is just terrifying Zakk is built different not even Zakk would expect sounds like this from Kirk with no whammy bar 😭😭 let alone the speed and tightness lol. But man Kirk deserves true praise not all this hate
Zakk and Kirk are both amazing
guitarists. Y'all b tripping hard😂🤣
Zakk is a monster player but he is also a great songwriter.
Absolutely!
And singer !
BLS's latest album really shows that too, some of his best work yet, at least the best since The Blessed Hellride
@@Scrapwood_CastleDoom Crew Inc is soooooooo good!
I really love his book of shadows albums. I played those albums nonstop when I was flipping my home during the plandemic. Kept me in a good state.
Fine you someone who looks at you the way Zakk looks at the blues scale. No shade, he’s a monster and instantly recognizable.
it actually is shade. but mostly jealousy. You sound stupid referring to what's being played here as "the blues scale". There's forty-two kinds of alternative and chromatic stuff going on here
true
@@peterdewitt6841 you say so pal, definitely no shade. And if you think there’s 42 kings of anything going on here I don’t know what to tell you. He’s a monster doing it his way, that’s all that matters.
I still have that DVD. It Was a great performance🤘🏼
Man you're on the fast track to having transcribed every one of my favorite solo bits from when I was a teenager. Transcription is a skill I'll forever admire. Thanks a ton.
Zakk was always my rebuttal to the "make small picking motions" devotees... NO! I will NOT! I will MURDER every last string with my pick! Zakk... show me on the doll where the guitar touched you.
My guitar teacher told me that I have a ‘vicious’ attack with my right hand and don’t pick in small measures 😂 He did say that’s just my fingerprint as a player but guys like Zakk and watching his technique tells me that the way I pick is not incorrect 👌🏼🤘🏼
The ultimate goal is to be equally proficient in both techniques and be able to fluidly shift from one to the other and everything in between. I pretty much got the light touch down, and I'm working towards achieving the same level of control when picking aggressively. I like Gary Moore's style of aggressive picking. I liken it to speed bagging, but on a guitar.
Bro my first guitar teacher pushed the same stuff on me. "You pick too aggressively".
Fast forward ten years to my first time in the studio: Producer was giving my other guitar player shit for "playing without any balls behind it". "Pick more like him!" (referring to me)
Looks like that first guitar teacher was an idiot.
@@mariaconda Gary Moore had amazing picking. That lick at the end of the Running from the Storm solo is so tight it's unbelievable.
no i think the best tone comes from striking the shit out of the strings, idk if i'm right but i have played for 20 years, and to my ear, it just sounds the best.
His high gain, super wet, wah driven tone falsely insinuates that the high gain i s assisting in his runs sounding cleaner than they are.. that he really is just wildly tremolo picking and the gain covers up mistakes (I've seen these comments about Zakk a 100 times)
COULDN'T BE MORE WRONG.. SUPER accurate alternate picking here.. crazy.. if his tone was dressed down the same articulation would be there.. he was just absolutely flying on some of those runs. Super clean. Love it, thanks Levi
There´s a reason he got a gig that wasn´t for the sloppy players
You can find videos of him playing solos on acoustic guitar... No doubts about his playing on those
You're right. There's no way to use your amp an pedal settings to hide your mistakes. Believe me, I've tried them all.
People said the same about me,they are those yngwie freaks,Dudes that are forced to play guitar since birth and everything must be so damn perfect.,They hate those specific scales all they want is arpeggios and the same yngwie classical scales. This is shredding blues they do not understand that.Pure rock. .
I played the whole video at half speed and the synchronicity between his hands his just unbelievable to watch. So perfect and clean it's just ridiculous. I don't get how he does it with the wild picking but damn does he.
Ozzy Live at Budokan is one of the greatest live albums in existence
yes I absolutely love it
100%
live and loud is much better imo
Yes and alcohol fueled brewtlaity
Zakk is the reason I picked up the guitar. When I first heard no more tears I had never heard guitar playing like that. I was hooked for life.
It's really impressive how he's able to pick like that but actually hit everything once.
So glad u made this been wanting to learn this for years
Yeah! Finally got it up. Levi making my weekend yet again with another amazing Zakk wylde transcription.
That was great! Good job Levi!
You tabbed out the whole solo!? Awesome!!! I want to bust out the les Paul and give this one a shred. This solo also had a huge impact on me when I first saw it as a young teen. Thank you Levi!
I Fkn love Zakk
I fucking love these transcriptions and your chat before hand. Keep it up good sir and thank you!
You give me work for years to come
Holy crap! I been going on about this for this past few months. His playing on the whole DVD is INSANE!!!
Dig your channel man. Youre doin great stuff 👍🎸🤘
So aggressive. That pick attack and the power in the left hand is just amazing.
I still remember buying No Rest for the Wicked, listening to the whole thing in one playthrough absolutely mesmerized.
Dude is a legend.
wow, one of the all time greatest solos for sure. just incredible.
Zakk's chicken picking is on point for sure, you can find several videos of him doing it and even talking about his technique. His lessons have always been great
Great choice, Levi 🍻
I am commenting on all this videos I watch to see if I can give the algorithm a little push. I just love how creative this project is.
You know it helps!!
I'm even more impressed with your transcription of the non-harmonic noises such as the pickup selector switching as I am with the 5- and 6-note-per-beat runs! It must have taken hours to create this file to your high standards!
Sick. Love this.
OMG!! See my brain! All over the wall Sir! 🤯😱💪🤘😎 great job with the tabs 👍
He played some surprising phrases and also whole tone scale. well, gooooooooood surprise for me. thanks :)
Honestly, it sounds like the same pentatonic stuff he’s been playing for 40 years.
but he added more symmetric scales here, seemed to be diminished and moving around some tritones chromatically
@@sat1241 I did hear those, although I didn’t mention it. I think the title of the video is a bit overblown.
I also wish he would ditch the damn wah pedal, and allow me to hear each note articulated.
@@guthrie_1 It hides his poor technique. Dude *was* a high calibre player, but he's been phoning it in for a while. This video sounds every Guitar Center at 2PM on a Saturday
@@TheBrianna4555LOL… seriously dude? Yeah a wah wah can cover up mistakes but damn the notes he’s playing are still articulated perfectly and you can hear each note played great, at a very high speed lol. Damn if this video sounds like every guitar center at 2pm then how did zakk manage to get so far in the guitar world?
I have seen Zack with Ozzy. I have seen him when he was on tour for his first solo album at a very small bar in Savannah Georgia I got to meet him there and hang out.. And I have seen him with BLS. Great shows every time
The looks on the crowd is a sight to see.
what a legend
I loved his stuff with ozzy
that one’s up there my friend 🤯🤯🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🔥🔥🔥
I was wondering if someone had transcribed this. I think what you've done is even harder than playing it. Incredible feat.
Picking that fast and clean behind his head was impressive.
Yesssssss!!!
Pride and Glory is one of my favorite albums ever.
Thank you RUclips for allowing this video
Just amazing-both the performance and the transcription. Btw-Zakk is so excellent and tbh one of the nicest peeps when you see his interviews. Rock on you crazy diamonds!
I love Zakk Wylde's attack and attitude in his playing! Please do cover more of him in the future
Seen him live am blessed
I haven't thought of it that way
Master of His Craft.
That DVD made me wanna play guitar
Yay it's up! Zakk rules
always thought zakk's right hand looks so wild and inefficient. his left hand must be doing some mad muting to compensate.
Yup. It’s just all in the hands man. It’s crazy to watch but he’s obviously doing some muting to get those notes to ring out
he got some dirty old legato, getting massive momentum off those string blasts
One of the best guitar players in music history!
Lol .. right 😒
Definitely one of the guitar players of all time!
Truly a guitar god😃
Rock! 🤘
He was at his best around this time.
Man I wish he’d go back to those Gibson customs.
Same with Schenker and his Gibson V's.
First time ever heari.g him was this album
ZAKK IS THE GOAT HANDS DOWN
Great stuff! I wouldn't have guessed Zakk would use economy picking in any way, shape or form
He literally made love to the guitar
solo incroyable wow
I would sell my soul for zakk's vibrato and bending
My 8 yr old son started talking guitar lessons last year, and more importantly plays hockey in Zakk's turf of Dirty Jersey Bayonne... by default that makes him destined to shred.
My buddies and I would smoke herb and have a cpl beers watching this before our band practice. Live at Budakon.
no rest for the wicked was one of oz's best albums along with the concert in 1989
Great work Levi! If you ever fancy doing more Zakk Wylde stuff I'd love to see some of his pentatonic madness taken apart from the Horse Called War or Shine On live solos
Zakk has always been a guitarist that makes you excited to play the guitar when you hear him and that's the mark of a great player.
Fucking amazing
I gotta say, besides actual skill cuz that's s given, zakk looks the coolest out of everyone I've seen, when soloing.
"How many spare picks do you want on your guitar?" "Yes"
Listening to Zakk Wylde always makes me wanna chug a beer.
His tone was out of this world!!!
Yes!!!!!! I've been writing comments about his performance on that DVD lately. INSANE!!!! How does sausage figures do that?!?😱
those strings are tough!
3:23 the 'who farted' face.
zakk chicken picking is amazing. listen to "farm fiddlin" from his southern pride and glory band, my fav zakk era
I met Zakk at NAMM in the mid 90's and he was this skinny shy type of guy, then I saw him about 10 years later at NAMM again and he was this huge burly biker guy with all leather and chains hanging off of him. Just barrelling through the crowd, shoulder bumping anyone that didn't move out of his way. 😅 I know that has nothing to do with his playing but the difference he changed in those 10 years is something I remember ever so often and get a chuckle out of.
I didn’t realize just how young he was when he started playing with Ozzy, dude was only 19 👀
The difference between creepy Undertaker and bad ass Undertaker.
I doubt he was shoulder bumping people to move out of his way.
First, i don't think he is a rude guy and second, people that do that get their ass kicked like there is no tomorrow.
Going around like you are a tough guy usually brings you to people tougher than you and things don't go very well.
@@user-ov5nd1fb7s Dont tell me what I saw.
@@TheOriginalArchie ok. Don't worry, he'll get his ass whooped.
Zak is a master of his craft. Love the dirty & bluesy undertones of his unmistakably metal/shred style. Love the pinched harmonics he throws in too(not in this particular clip). He uses them quite a bit and they are awesome.
that was WYLDE
Zakk spoke the international language of face melting.
Thanks for this video, my Lord... However, is there a chance you could do a breakdown on how Zakk has built that tone for that specific concert?
I remember getting this dvd for Christmas haha thinking the same thing, like what the fuck dude?!?
😳😳😳Holy Moley!!
4:20 He COOKED, and he ATE.
Bro, please do the rest of the solo...the part where he plays part of eruption and other things
Wish Levi would give us Jake E. Lee’s solo spot in 1986 🙏
2:30 Dude transcribing the whole thing in his mind.
Zakk, Mike Borden everybody kicked ass at this show.
Zakk Wilde on his way to transforming into a guitar playing llama.
Zakk Wyld: Taking the piss, Everyone: One of the most influencing solos!
🤘🤘🤘🤘❤️
Wow, I've never seen this - one of my favourite metal players too, just savage!!
Absolute muck 👍
Zakk is such a beast of a guitarist and a frontman. I saw BLS live for the first time recently and he absolutely blew me away
Loud as fuck when i seen em. Painfully loud. Ears rang for 3 days
Even though he's not the cleanest player I can listen to him for hours. That tone and vibrato alone is 🔥
That's a "Guitar Playin Fool" WOw 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳
God. It just sounds so God Damn Metal.
I tried to whistle that. And passed out.
How does someone create these cool tabs? I am so curious because I think it's awesome that people make these tab papers instead of those crazy music sheets.
Lots of videos on my channel live-streaming me doing it
My picking wrist hurts every time I see him playing with his guitar strapped down below his knee caps.
The man knows his audience. That's the perfect solo to play for a Japanese audience. They aren't quite as jaded as Americans and Brits are and appreciate theatrics.
Me and the wife went to see Les Paul in the Iridium years ago. Couldn’t believe it, Satriani was on stage tuning before the set, Eric Johnson walked by as I sat down and then Zakk got pissed as a fart shouting obscenities at satriani while he was on stage with Les Paul. Very strange experience.
he's spittin' licks
2:50 i love that kind of shit like in kingfish's sound check video (Christone "KINGFISH" Ingram | Guitar Solo)
that video would be great for a transcription right?
greetings from argentina, master
I had a VHS cassette of this epic show Live at Budokan 2002. Mr. Zakk F. Wylde! \m/
