I've met Buckethead. He was awesome, but he was still in character, so it was interesting. His playing is truly terrifying that he can combine that level of technique with amazing timing and feel is just one of a kind.
Fun fact, he's like 6'6" tall without the bucket, so the dude's a giant. Buckethead's rad, definitely a gem in music and guitar.

I once held one of his custom guitars and its near impossible to play for someone who doesn't have rediculously big hands. No wonder they didn't sell too many of them. They should make a smaller scale one and id gladly save up for one...

For the breakdown chicken pickin solo towards the end, he doesn't double pick the notes, he does a rick Graham hammer on from nowhere with his index finger! Helped me learn the solo a LOT easier!

I have been loving these shredder transcriptions! I know it's a shit ton of work and Levi is posting this for free, but in case anyone actually tries to mess around with this, I have to politely point out an articulation mistake at m.50 (around 3:45 in the video)- Buckethead plays these kinds of passages with a "hammer-on from nowhere" for the middle note of each group of 16th-note triplets. So the initial 16th fret F# on the D string isn't picked, it's struck by the fret hand finger, THEN the repeated note after it is picked (he plucks the high E notes with a finger). Good luck for anyone crazy enough to try working on this, and a huge thanks to Levi for all this great work!
I don't like the way hammer ons from nowhere look in tab, I absolutely never use them. The way I see it is that it's like picking information, sure... everything would be more accurate if it were there, but you have to put some trust in the end user!

Guthrie and Buckethead are the only two shredders that I can enjoy. I'm usually more into bluesy stuff but omg these guys are just unreal. They will always be at the top of the list of my favorite guitarists (alongside with SRV & Gilmour).

Indeed!, Bucketheads sound is like a "computer exploding"😂 and that makes it even more interesting. One of the most talented electric guitarist ever. But I admire Levi more for tabbing this insane stuff from Bucket.
Love his stories about him first hearing Shawn Lane, There's no RUclips yet in the early 90's so he wanted to emulate his sound thru tapping, and Bucket thought the sound was produed thru tapping, not knowing that Shawn is purely alternate picking everything!. Also his excitement in sharing his amazing experience in watching Yngwie Malmsteen perform live.😄 Buckethead is simply one of the best EVER!

Lebrontron and Crack The Sky are excellent choices to really hear his excellent playing, apart from his epics like Soothsayer. Actually, his work with Les Claypool is always outstanding. I'd check out the song Buckethead on Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernies Brains.

Never been into shred not that I don't appreciate the skills. More amazing to me is that Levi can transcribe it.
Buckethead does way more than shred. Check out his electric tears album.
I would recommend albums of his but I can't be bothered as I know people are too lazy these days to listen to a few albums by one artist.

Gills from the Tucked Into Dreams album is the opposite of shred, and it's amazing.
He reminds me of Steve Vai. They both take their solos outside the box and explore multiple variances which makes their music so unique and emotional. Great job transcribing this piece of music. It is very complex.

my man Buckethead 🥺❤️ been listening to him since i was a little kid... His music is beyond amazing...besides the shredding, he also does a ton of relaxing and sometimes emotional stuff...don't believe me? Check out the "Electric Tears" and "Electric Sea" albums... You won't regret it ☺️

there's no real comparison, I am confused why it's even a debate if he is the best, it's like comparing Liszt to a bunch of competent second-raters
@@holliswilliams8426 bhead can play anything that any other guitarist can play, and play it very well, but those same guitarists couldn’t play half of what buckethead can play. People are always saying Slash is a better guitarist, or John 5 is better etc.. which is just laughable. They’re great, but not in buckethead’s league

@@rodrigogomes2064 on balance Buckethead is the GOAT, skill, productivity, emotional expression, experimentation, live performance but there are guitarists that are better at specializing in each of these categories. If you're thinking about him and the 1st thing that jumps out is him as "fastest" "most technical" guitarist I question how well you know his body of work. There's a lot going on with Buckethead, I made a playlist to try and share his skillset/show appreciation he may even be the most underrated musician which probably sounds crazy to a lot of people.

You wont change my mind on that lol Guthrie could maybe challenge buckethead as the best, but i would still bet that buckethead could play anything Guthrie could fairly easily but GG probbaly couldn't play everything Bhead could

Didn't buckethead use to write for guitar world magazine in the US or am I confusing him with someone else (if that's possible). I'm sure there used to be a buckethead section in one of the import magazines I used to get in the late nineties.
I only mention this because one of the other contributers once (it might have been billy corgan wierdly enough) said that noone but buckethead would ever be able to transcribe buckethead. So I'm glad to see you've broken that wall!!

If you guys want to hear the most perfect combo of shred/melody check out the song "The Unknown Song" by Buckethead. Theres literally only one version of the song (that i know of) but its just tear bringing in the best sense possible!

Well of course there is some paul gilbert in his playing, considering paul gilbert was bucketheads teacher, so it makes sense there is some influence in his playing.

I really need to listen to some of the later stuff, I got a bit lost when he started the Pike series but spent a lot of time learning Welcome to Bucketheadland many years ago when first starting to play. Really should give that a go again too!

Have seen him twice...my ears are still ringing. I knew one of his mentors as a friend, Shawn Lane, in Memphis. Saw him at least weekly . We were just beyond mere acquaintances ...awesome guy.

I heard of buckethead durin the 90s but had no idea he was so necessary a guitarist until I heard colma in 2001. At that time buckethead was everything to me. Since 1983 I listened to all shrapnel guitarist starting with yngyang malmsteen, Ron keel in Steeler 82. Racer x, Vinnie Moore.,Toni macalpine maximum security(my favorite 87?) (of all i missed Shawn lane somehow). Anyways non of shrapnel guitarist from 80s had same effect on me as buckethead. Through buckethead interview in 2004 (after Shawn already passed) Buckethead mentions Shawn lane name, first time I heard of shawn lane. Buckethead rarely gives interviews. It’s what buckethead says about Shawn lane and what Paul Gilbert says.. If only
‘Once upon time in the west’ had lil better quality recording. It doesn’t need a lot with Shawn
he's very much a necessary guitarist (at least as a composer), he can play virtuoso but this is just him messing around and having fun

Paul Gilbert was actually one of Buckethead's teachers early on so that explains that similar style.
As Ukrainian and I fell with bh music art, he is very talented musician and im blessed to see his concert recently. People need to speak to others about that he exist and let them fell in love. He is very unknown still.

Funny story. Buckethead has been my favorite living guitarist for close to 15 years.
My first exposure to buckethead was this song on guitar hero 2. At the time, id been actually playing for a couple years. I never liked this song.
About a year or so later, my best friend, who also plays guitar, told me buckethead was the next great guitar god. I dismissed him for a long time because i had heard this song and didnt like it.
Then i listened to soothsayer, and have since listened to almost every buckethead song at least once. If you know, you know.
The irony is that my name is jordan.
Also, my best friend's name is michael, which is the first name of the person this song was named after. (Michael Jordan)
I just always thought that was funny. Literally the only buckethead song i just outright did not like is named after me and the guy who convinced me to give it a second chance.

I have seen Buckethead live 4 times.

All of the shredders are technically amazing but the two that blew me away were Shawn Lane and Scott Mishoe. I recently came across Scott's video "Scott Mishoe at Home" and was reminded again what an amazing player he was. Far beyond just a shredder. I wish he had not fallen off the face of the planet so to speak.

As for Buckethead... clearly one of the most technically competent guitarist out there, but, compositionally, he seems to think that drinking from a firehose is the only way to drink... it is as those the concept of "there is music in the silence between the notes" completely eludes him. There are other guitarist who are as technically competent, but who also have much better compositional skills too (i.e., Tim Henson (most recently), John McLaughlin, Al DiMeola, Jeff Beck, Michael Stern, and many others.)
Listen to his albums colma or electric tears! this is just one style he does out of many. This is the song that put him on the map more so than even being in GNR, That was written for the video game Guitar Hero. its meant to be one of the hardest songs in the game! its why it's so wild.

You obviously haven't listened to all of Buckethead's music. Try The Ghosts Of Broken Eggs on for size and see how it fits those inexperienced ears of yours. Then meander through the over 300 recordings he's done, and I'm sure you'll find other similar gems to your liking.

Totally, totally wrong. Listen to Whitewash or other songs of his, it's all about the space between the notes. He is much, much, much better as a composer than Tim Henson, not even going to argue.

soothsayer is probably the only guitar song that equals to cliffs of dover in melodic composition. buckethead is one of my favourite guitarists, and in my opinion one of the very best in the business. and the most unique for sure.

As a guitarist Buckethead is without a single doubt phenomenal.

i went to see buckethead out of curiosity. it was cool. about 30 minutes was my limit. the opener was a percussionist called 'that other guy'. interesting. i think this was the show. at a place called la zona rosa?

The 'computer' technique came about quite fortuously. Shawn Lane used an actual computer on one of his tracks. Young Bucket thought it was a guitar and tried to copy it. Shawn Lane (rip😢) said he got pretty damn close. 😂 The mask isn't a gimmick either. He's shit scared of playing in front of people. Go figure. (The Bucket is a joke though). Fascinating guy.
