A major point that wasn't really talked about and almost 100% the only reason I bought the XM4's... They're stealthy. I work a super boring and tedious factory job that requires no thinking and to do the exact same motion for 8 hours a day. However, we aren't allowed to have ear buds so the work day goes by SO slowly and is a killer on my mental state. So I bought the XM4's and a beanie hat that covers my ears so supervisors can't see I have them in. I can listen to music, an audio book, and also block out the loud noises of the factory. The best part is the feature that pauses the music or audio book when it detects I have started talking. If my supervisor walks over to me I can mumble something under my breath or hum or even just clear my throat and the XM4's pause the music and switch to ambient sound so I can talk to my supervisor or other co-workers without blowing my cover by otherwise reaching for my phone or the ear buds. Music starts back up automatically when I have stopped talking for 30 seconds, seriously I feel like James Bond lol. 100% justified the cost for me, paid for themselves in under a week and now my work days just FLY by! Love the content by the way. Great review. Keep it up!
wait.. that's AMAZING! thanks for writing, this might come in handy some day i don't understand why they won't let your protect your ears in what you said is a noisy environment. sounds stupid.
@@sebasty6111 oh they have ear plugs available to you if you'd like them. That's not the problem at all. The rule is they dont allow ear buds, like music playing devices. They want u to be focused on the work. Which is dumb cause it's super easy and it's not a dangerous part of the factory or anything so its totally fine to be distracted. If it was around heavy machinery I'd be more understanding. But nope, it's just a soul sucking boring environment haha
Yeah he definitely doesn't script them. He's said in a past video when a nugget wiped his recording that he doesn't prepare what he's going to say and after he does it he doesn't remember what it is
To my ears these 3rd Gen Air pods are more comfortable compared to the newer Pro version with the soft gel tips. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxgl8SzyQoymMu-S3V55Dskg5QJ8xr1yCR That said, compared to the 3rd Gen, I notice these do not stay planted in the ear as well. One design issue I think, is you squeeze the stem and click it twice to advance your songs. On 3rd gen you tap the large speaker. The difference is by grabbing the stem each time, you tend to loosen the bud fit in your ear. Not always, but the bud falls out a few times while running. The old tap to change never had that problem for me. I would not have changed that tap function. That said, the newer Pro version sticks in the ear, almost airtight if you want that. I do not like that Airtight fit. So that's why I'd stay with this version as the best trade off of comfort, use, and overall feel.
I work in refineries and true wireless are such a great thing for the work environment. It would be really hard to get away with using wired buds, but wireless you can easily hide underneath a skull cap or mask. And obviously there are no wires to compete with while working. That alone is worth the convenience price.

The fact that earpods are basically disposable is why I was happy to spend $49.99 USD for the Taotronics Soundliberty 79s (on your recommendation) and have been really happy with them. Great sound for cheap and nothing that made me worry I'd spent too much on something.
Out of the three, they seem to be the only ones not subject to overbearing amounts of noise reduction and echo cancellation (probably because they were the only ones you could plug into an analog input).
Just like to point out that my KZs survived a trip through a washer and dryer and still work perfectly while I still can’t find a set of wireless buds that don’t break after normal use.

I’ve been feeling the same about wireless headphones too. You can’t really repair or work on AirPods or any wireless headphones without significant damage to the case. A “simple” battery replacement has a pretty good chance of sending your pods to the great charging case in the sky. Companies literally push these so much because they’re so replaceable. It’s not intended at all to last a lifetime, maybe just a few years till the battery finally kicks the bucket. They expect you to lose them, or just buy the newest pair when they come out. It’s depressing.
@@bandombeviews6035 yeah, that's one of the reasons i got them too. however, op probably meant earbuds, which is much harder and more risky at this price point. btw: awesome point, op. you opened my eyes, honestly.
in a world where most people strive for at least some sustainability in their lifestyle, i really despise that switch towards throwaway trash in the headphone world as well. I wont buy true wireless ever if i don't absolutely have to
I've seen that some of Samsung's earlier Galaxy Buds were surprisingly easy to repair. You just use a vise to pop them open, and the battery change is pretty straightforward after that. Unfortunately, their later buds seem to have abandoned repairability in favor of glue and solder. Yuck.
They’re also pushing them so much because the profit margin on them is so ridiculously huge. Revenue for AirPods alone is 10 billion USD. That’s practically the same amount of revenue that Spotify alone generates. That’s also why there’s a bunch of random companies just out rebranding $5 earbuds from some factory in China and selling for $50.
I had a pair of generic earpods before I had airpod pros and I didn't realize the difference in portability until just now. Like the other container was huge and squared and I didn't carry it around much. Now I have the airpods and I literally put them in a pocket with my wallet, keys, and chapstick daily. That happened to me too, but pretty much because of my own stupidity. I made a new save file for another character and accidentally overwrote my old school since-launch first character. I did have another save of him right after the main storyline was done, but that was WAY back before the one I overwrote. Haven't played much Skyrim since then...
Dank does make a good point on this video, you can be blinded by the new bling of todays "disposable" tech or do a bit of research and get the most out of your money and still look awesome in your everyday use.
Exactly right about stuff like the truffles dying out in a few years. It would be nice if you took a look at the other different variations of the KZ IEMs, from the ZST x with are often compared to the ZSN Pro X, their heavily aclaimed ZS10 Pro, and their absolute cheapest EDX to their most expensive AST to see how they hold up to one another
According to crinacle, the QKZ ZK4s are his pick for an iem under $50, but qc is an issue with them so it is a bit of a gamble. That being said, it’s more worth it to save up for moondrop arias or etymonic er2xrs
Hmm at that budget ($40-50 iem) i might go with moondrop ssp/ssr rather than gambling with KZ, because i tried some of them (forgot whats the model is, but its that hybrid drive thing. I personally only own ZS10 the cheapo $10 one) and it sounds different from each other (and its the same model, not yet burned in or smth). Not an audiophile by all means, but I do appreciate good iems.
My everyday wireless ear buds are the Jlab Jbuds, I think they cost me £50 about 2-3 years ago. While the buttons have gone a bit mushy and there are the odd connection/syncing issues (probably once a week), I've worn them pretty much every day for at least 12 hours a day and they still hold 5-6 hours of charge and charge to full relatively quickly. They've been fantastic for what I wanted out of them.
The funny thing is that Sony's high-end headphones still come with nice cables. The rumour still persists that Apple ditched the headphone port on their phones to sell Airpods. Sony still _kept_ the port on their flagship phones, including this year's best phone, the Xperia 1 III. The point I'm making is that I don't quite understand whether Sony plan to maintain old standards while introducing new ones, but it's extremely welcome.
I don’t care if removing the headphone jack makes it easier to waterproof the phone or whatever excuses they make, in my opinion it’s just an anti-consumer technique that forces people to spend extra on disposable tech. I have similar problems with wireless earbuds as Dank does, though full sized headphones can get a pass if they still have an aux port, since if the battery dies you can still use them just as long as any other cabled headphones.
@@Stardevoir Exactly! I love being able to use my Marley Positive Vibration BT and when the battery runs low just chuck the cable in and plug it into my phone. I been having them for almost about a year for daily usage till about recently on my PC. They're sound very good imo but I started to despise earpads and starting to use The Fiio FH3.
I got these as an update to my almost 4 year old Bose Soundsport Free. I miss the little hook for my ears but these are so incredibly comfortable, the sound is even better than my wired B&W earbuds, and the sound cancelling is amazing. The ambient sound mode is great too for when I’m at work and want some background music but I still need to be somewhat attentive. I haven’t used the adaptive audio settings yet, but Sony’s EQ software is on point, especially the clear bass boost. The battery life is absolutely absolutely insane coming from headphones that just barely scraped 4-5 hours before without any sort of noise cancelling/ambient sound on 30-50% volume.
in uk the KS2's are £35 on ebay which is pretty much three times as much. unless youre willing to buy from china which is then £25, and thats still a lot more
"Forgot to charge my toothbrush" LOL But seriously, I like both options, that's why I went for a Hybrid headset, so if they run out of battery, I just plug the C-A-B-L-E
I actually have the Sony 1000xm3 and in my opinion the case size don't really matter. It's not too small and it's not too big it fits in the pockets and that's all that matters. I've had these earbuds for over a year now and I'm very happy :DD
Consider taking your AirPods to an Apple store to get them replaced. I got my pair of AirPods in 2019, but have been replacing them for free every time some static happens. I find that the unwanted noises start after 4-6 months of daily use. The warranty of my pods has expired for nearly a year now and I’m still replacing them for new ones at no cost.
@@doktormerlin I guess it boils down to how much of a hassle is worth a new pair of airpods. I know that for most people, going to an Apple store is quite a hassle. Fortunately, I pass by an Apple store daily, so it isn't too bad for me. Just an additional 10-20 minutes to get them replaced.
Dang, that sounds like a great deal but at the same time that really sucks. Imagine how cheap they really are if they can afford to give you new ones every time you ask. If airpods were really worth $200 they wouldn't break so easy.

A couple months ago, after finding this channel, I actually took a recommendation and bought the Kz ZSN-Pro earbuds and a Fiio BRT3K, and I must say... they are *AMAZING!!* Seriously... they sound better than _any_ pair of bluetooth earbuds I've owned over the years. Sure, maybe the wire is a bit less convenient than 'true wireless' earbuds... but I'll happily take the wire and have much better audio quality, than just a _little_ more comfort and convenience. It's seriously incredible how much bass these things can put out without sounding muddy at all! Also... they are REALLY comfortable! Only earbuds I've ever owned that I can wear them for tens of hours and my ears never get sore! A serious lifesaver when my over-ears died a couple months ago and I had nothing else I could use in their place... my 'true wireless' earbuds always make my ears go red after just a couple hours... not a problem with the Kz's. They are an absolute steal for $25 USD. And they even come in one of my favorite colors, purple! I also love the BTR3k... I use it all the time with my phone and even to watch videos on my computer from bed. Only thing is... bluetooth range kinda sucks and they could get longer. But the battery life is surprisingly great! I can get nearly 9 hours on them at full volume! It charges quick too. Very grateful I found this channel and bought two great products because of it's fantastic content!

The static is not due to your Airpods dying, it's a production error and there's been a recall on those early 2019-2200 models. You can probably send them in and have some brand new pods.
For anyone out there that owns these and is not a huge fan of the hybrid tips and prefers the convenience of silicon I highly recommend picking up some Spinfit CP360s. So much more comfortable than the included tips and no mashing them up before inserting them in your ears.
I legitimately cannot thank you enough for the sheer amount of just awakening you have given me from the video(sounds dumb i know) but the points you make are so on point and have actually changed me and my spending habits . thank yoi
9:34 That static issue from moving the AirPods Pro has been acknowledged by Apple, and they'll replace yours with a brand new one if you get them serviced within 2 years from purchase date. And since every AirPods Pro is less than 2 years old at this point, you can get them replaced with brand new units with revised hardware without the static issues.
"Talk to a school network admin" Well now I feel called out. Not in schools but close enough. Recently helped a friend set up his internet. Wifi was garbage. Took an hour to convince him to plug in a cable. "Oh..... well it just works...." was the resounding reply.
I use my dt770s for double digit hours most days, for listening to music whilst doing uni work or gaming, or also for doing drum and bass dj stuff on the side, they are absolutely amazing. I broke the jack, and bought an official replacement part from beyerdynamic for next to nothing, and fixed them for nothing. 100% worth it. Best value cable headphones ever :)
The planned obsolescence of headphones is borderline criminal at this point, but hey, everybody needs a pair of airpod pro plus minis in giga black for $500
What I am concerned about is, once new AirPods Pro come out, will I be able to get replacements of my first gen pros when batteries die. I like these pros and don’t need anymore features than these, also like their sound and convenient stems.
@@kfkaest not really, the batteries dying in two years is normal. What is planned obsolescence is that they can’t be disassembled like every other earbud to replace only faulty part (the battery in this case). It’s quite irresponsible and ridiculous
@@kfkaest Most headphones have a 2 year warranty. The problem is what happens after that. I just got my then 20+ year old DT 880 repaired on 2019. Main reason i still love TWS earbuds is that i walk minimum 1-2 hours a day, and generally don't really like having to mind the cable when i'm out n about ,or in the office, where i'm moving between 2 separate desks and constantly doing all sorts of stuff. Not to mention, ANC is literally a lifesaver for when i need to focus while writing code. For that kind of convenience, i can definitely take a hit in audio quality. Not to mention, i do think that the buds i got recently (Xiaomi 3T Buds Pro) definitely punch above their weight in terms of sound quality and ANC, especially for the 107$ i payed for them.
I would love to use wired headphones but I can’t. You see, I’m a machinist. Imagine fast spinny bits powerful enough to hog metal often not that far from my face. (they also make a huge racket, so I have to wear earplugs anyway, so why not make them play music as well?) Something like that catching a cable attached to my head is a legitimate safety hazard.
@@chrisheartman9263 this could be possible, but it has one major flaw: there is no way it will keep the cable out of the way at all times. I would have to be conscious about it all the time and put the cable back in place when it inevitably moves around under my shirt. Even when I’m in a hurry or extremely tired, which happens way too often. Considering that I have to be wary of many other safety concerns and focus on the work itself at the same time, it gets old very quickly. Trust me, I’ve tried. Also it would be quite a bit more expensive than my current buds with only marginal bump in sound quality.
There are behind-ear batteries that you can get for IEMs, they look kinda like large hearing aids but they would fit your situation much cheaper than the xm4s.
Check out the Fiio UTWS3. They're wireless behind-the-ear bluetooth adapters for IEMs, attached via the MMCX connectors. You get to listen to any IEM without the hassle of cables!
For bluetooth headphones, the Soundcore Q30 are pretty good value for the sound quality (after some EQing) and decent noise cancelling. I have to agree about not spending so much on these disposable, average sound quality things.

2:36 good magnets, I often dream of loosing wireless earplugs after they fly everywhere after my body is violently ejected in a car accident, no need to fear anymore
True wireless earbuds are just more convenient in most environment (except when you loose them), they take a minimal amount of space and there's no pulling cable bs.
Decent iems plus the fiio utws3, OR KZ az09's, will give you just as good, if not better sound quality, than the usual premium tws earbuds for half the price (or more). Fr they a great combo

Keep it up!
wait.. that's AMAZING! thanks for writing, this might come in handy some day
i don't understand why they won't let your protect your ears in what you said is a noisy environment. sounds stupid.

The XM3 actually have replaceable batteries. I’ve done mine, and it’s really easy honestly

in a world where most people strive for at least some sustainability in their lifestyle, i really despise that switch towards throwaway trash in the headphone world as well.
Get KZ ZSN Pros or go for KZ ZSXs, thats it
If you go any higher get Tin T2s and then from there either Moondrop Starfields or Arias
None of the others are worth comparing
The point I'm making is that I don't quite understand whether Sony plan to maintain old standards while introducing new ones, but it's extremely welcome.
well xperia xz2 to 1 didn't have it, it came back in the 1 II
Sony got the port back due to customer feedback. And that says alot about their relationship with their customers.

I do.
Fear me, for I know every word of the terms for extended warranty on my microwave.
type it out.
While it’s great that it’s a free replacement, it doesn’t sound too sustainable though.
"Talk to a school network admin" Well now I feel called out. Not in schools but close enough. Recently helped a friend set up his internet. Wifi was garbage. Took an hour to convince him to plug in a cable. "Oh..... well it just works...." was the resounding reply.
ask him to get an at LEAST semi decent router especially one with openwrt lol
I use my dt770s for double digit hours most days, for listening to music whilst doing uni work or gaming, or also for doing drum and bass dj stuff on the side, they are absolutely amazing. I broke the jack, and bought an official replacement part from beyerdynamic for next to nothing, and fixed them for nothing. 100% worth it. Best value cable headphones ever :)
It’s hard to believe how young this channel is…DP, you were born for this. You’re a true entertainer
My friend was told "sorry we can't fix it, it's better to just buy a new one", when he asked to get his gen1 Airpods fixed at the apple service center. His airpods are 3 years old.
@@kfkaest when you don't understand right to repair but still wanna talk shit
Nah, that's just for the smartphone industry
You can use the KZ's and put the cable behind you and make em bluetooth with the DAC that Dank showed in the video.
Don't worry man. There's a reason why wireless IEMs were made in the first place.
Sony employees naming these are like:
"real quick pick two letters"
"uh, W... and H?"
"yea good nuff, cheers"
just add a few zeros we good to go
For bluetooth headphones, the Soundcore Q30 are pretty good value for the sound quality (after some EQing) and decent noise cancelling. I have to agree about not spending so much on these disposable, average sound quality things.
“Sorry Sony, I hated your app”
*maniacal laughter*
Pretty cringe when manufacturers put their shitty app on earbuds
@@InfernoPhoenixFX lmao sony app isn't shit, have you ever tried it without watching reviews?
I recently found out that you are streaming and I really need you to stop. The last time you went live was during my work time and I just literally stopped working for the entirety of the stream!
Jokes aside - keep up man, the most entertaining shit I've seen in a long time!
And keep up the videos too, they are also dope )
2:36 good magnets, I often dream of loosing wireless earplugs after they fly everywhere after my body is violently ejected in a car accident, no need to fear anymore
I love this channel, it's like asking a friend for advice on a purchase or watching them open something only they bought
@@Junya01 You're absolutely correct, but they're simply not convenient in many situations. Exercise is a prime example: the cable will just snag on stuff like weights, or swing around uncomfortable while jogging. Work where you handle objects, such as warehouses, etc. There are plenty situations where true wireless just make a lot of sense for the convenience. For just sitting down and listening? Not really, I use big wired cans for that.
I just got these too, they are by far the best sounding earbuds I've ever gotten, better than my zs10 pros, and pretty comfortable for how airtight they are, and touch controls are alright, but the NoIsE CaNcElInG! Ooh it's nice, definitely some of the best $300 I've spent
The best is when you have the noise canceling on and play white noise. You will not hear anything. Perfect for focusing
Gotta love Sony’s incredibly logical naming scheme.
PlayStation!!!! No bots allowed!
I agree, WF-1000XM4 is the most intuitive and catchiest name I can think of, that and "MP3 Music Player" (or what ever those bootleg no name iPods are called).
to play devils advocate, i can decipher them somewhat.
WH- wireless headphones. WF- wireless.. fones?
M4, M3- model 4, model 3
i dunno about the 1000X, probably there to make them sound more extreme
WF (True wireless) WH (wireless headphones)
1000X series
Mark 4
WF-1000XM4
WH-1000XM4
yeah I had to look that up.
What do you mean? Their Xperia phone naming is excellent. It's a logical progression, imo. Z1>Z2>Z3>Z.....4? Nope, only in Japan, Z3+ for the rest of the world. Continuing: Z5>Z6, right? Nope, X. Oh, new line up, so it'll continue with like X1>X2 and so on, right? OH LAWD, enter the XZ. Ok, Sony. Where are you going with this? "XZ1" oh Ok. So you guys will stick to this name now, right? So XZ2>XZ3 and so on? "No, we'll call it "1" now". ??? Not to mention the fact that there's the Xperia 5 and 10 now as well, which totally makes sense. Let's just hope they keep up with the current naming scheme (1, 1 II, 1 III, etc).
You’ve done it again Sony. The catchy names never end
This review is a breath of fresh air from all the other more standard ones I've been binging. Thank you for the vid!
Another great microphone storytelling episode!
me: oh he's reviewing the xm4's, they're pretty good.
also me: oh that's the other xm4. thanks sony.
Sony really gave up after Walkman and Playstation huh. They should fire whoever names the thing and just randomly page through a dictionary for two words. Next Sony could be named the GuimpeWidget. Not gonna confuse that with anything.
@@NEEDbacon At least it makes sense as a model name. dafuq is pro, is it only meant for professionals or what
My biggest audio score that I got are the Sony WH-1000MX5 headphones, and I absolutely love them. Got them from a work friend for $20 (and a trade of my old Sony headphones.) Looked up the frequency response and they're pretty good all around. It be really cool if you might do a personal review on them.
I remember the high school when we found the mp3 version of Virtual Barber shop in mp3. It was a 2006 I think and we were blown away with it.. :)
Thanks for a great video!
Feels like Sony had the engineers name everything.
For real. It's hilarious that Sony's only product family that has proper names is from their photography camera branch, which used to be Minolta. As such, Minolta brought over their Alpha Series nomenclature. Once you look under the hood though, A7RII becomes ILCE-7RM2. Sony just can't let a good thing roll.
The Fiio has been a lifesaver at work.
Use that to power some wired buds, then easily transfer to the car.
It's great. Barely any interruption. I work delivery, so that stuff's pretty vital.
I absolutely adore my little purple KZs! They actually fit my small ears, & I can hear everything! I haven't been able to wear earbuds for years, & these are amazing! :D
As for the end bit: I can show you the Fraaaaaaaank.
Dank did us a solid recommending kzs. I've been hooked on audio since my first kz a few months ago
i'm not at all being dramatic when i say my kz zsn pros changed my life. volume, comfort, details, even songs in dolby atmos (through apple music) sound better. thank you mr. dank
Kz sells Bluetooth ear-hooks for around 20 freedom bucks.
Fiio sells them for 60 and they're very very good. I have a set and I use them more than any TWS I have.
@@chethammer I have the Fiio LC-BT2 Neckband Bluetooth adapter for 70 USD. Paired with my Fiio FH3 it blew these out of the water for just 200 dollars, oh didn't I mentioned that it has LDAC support. Fiio also have the FiiO UTWS3 true wireless bluetooth adpater similar to the Sony's on the video for same price as the LC-BT2
@@InfernoPhoenixFX The UTWS3's have built in DAC/AMPs. I really like them.. Great sound and really convenient. Don't look for an airpods max size case though.
If your new to reference headphones, get the DT 770. They are amazing. I always had shit headphones. It changed sound for me. Now I'm used to it but the detail is so fun to go back and re listen to music and see what's different
The DT 770's are such an underrated pair of headphones, and that's despite them being super highly rated as it is. I own a Hifiman Sundara, the Sony XM4s (headphones not earbuds), a couple Sennheisers, and despite all of that I still use the DT 770s as my daily driver.
Such a comfortable, well built, and great sounding pair of headphones. And it's the cheapest pair of headphones in my mini collection.
the DT770 are not underrated at all lmao, you see them everywhere from twitch to youtube to radio, studio every fucking where
@@petitpanierdosier3206 yeah theyre everywhere, but they arent recommended very often, at least in my experience
