@@SlemyJemy Gotta admit, outside of Wade talking about Meze, the only other time I hear Romania mentioned is when it comes from Brandon Herera (or really any gun video) talking about the Romanian Dong AK grip.

"how that's not the default", why? capitalism A big company making mass products wouldn't make as much of a profit selling really good stuff for the money
@@Daniel-dj7fh Capitalism can do that too, but at a $100-300 price point thst customers will pay and the need to have the latest that customers THINK they need, it is a struggle to differentiate companies and products. I am glad that Meze and Abyss are out on the edge like some car companies showing what is possible even if it is downright crazy.
Integrity only pays bills after a certain point, plus like...it's an audiophile channel, of course he's going to promote the best products when he can. Dishonest comparison, really.
“Something you’d find in Dwarven ruins in Skyrim” That’s probably the most accurate description of those absolute beauties of headphones I’ve heard as of now
This man has MULTIPLE. STAX. UNITS. from different vintages; and he STILL uses the N64 as his center piece. Salt of the earth, this man!! Imagine hearing GoldenEye's scuffed gunshots through a pair of Stax! Absolutely beautiful. Never change, Dank!
You said your mom nearly cried listening to those headphones, bless her soul! And this reminded me. I was interviewing for a position @ Meze Audio back in November of '23. When we finished the interview, I asked one of their engineers to be a dear & help with a listening session. At first it was "Ok, I never listened to anything like it" and I'm basically driven by analogue sound & quality. When the engineer gave me the Elite and said "you need something with soundstage" he immediately chose Queen's Love Of My Life live at Wembley '86. Unbeknown to him, I should have a Fallout character clearly named after my passion for this band. Brian started playing the guitar, it already started sounding promising. Clearly the hairs on my arm started responding. When Freddie started singing, given the fact that it sounded like it was a one on one live session, I told the guy I needed to sit (luckily, I found a chair immediately) and, just like your mother but surpassing her reaction, started producing tears in significant quantity. THAT was the moment I've really decided I'm ready to move some 600 km+ and work here. They, and I'm talking about the entire product lineup, are THAT good. And I'm now in Baia Mare working at Meze Audio, have never been happier.
Meze's have a beautiful art deco feel to them, especially the Empyreans with the golden metal backs. Also, you should give us a tour of all your headphones!
"Be aware that you're listening through your headphones." My LCD-Xs recoiled at this implied slight, and now they won't stop playing smooth jazz to harass me.
Story time. I was leaving my neighbor hood, and some idiot was driving like a grandma, and I had places to be. As I was getting upset at him for his terrible driving I noticed a 1 grit sticker, and was like. This is a man of culture! Carry on driving slow! End of story.
Fun fact: The Stax have such a high impedance (the amount of power required to run them), that they're not measured in ohms. They're measured in **kilohms**. To review: Meze Empyrean - 32ohm Sennheiser HD 600 (by ol' mate senny) - 300ohm (prepare yourself) Stax Lambda: 122 ... thousand ohm. 122,000ohm. 122kilOhm headphones. This is why they require such POWER! TL;DR: The Stax Lambda require 203 times MORE POWER than the SENNHEISER; and 3812(.5) times more power than the Maze Empereans. Holy dingus that is a lot of power.
@@eggegg2873 Transformers have huge inductance, so there'll probably be a lot of amplitude distortions towards higher frequencies and also phase shift. I'm not a soud engineer though, just studying for electrical engineering.
I've been watching for a long time, and found Meze through your 99 classics review. I've had this username for like 10 years, so Meze had a somewhat unique appeal to me, and I talked about getting a pair of 99 classics for ages. Finally, my wife got me a set for my birthday, and I love them. I don't think I'll ever be able to financially justify Empyreans or Elites, but man even the 99 classics are fantastic. Maybe one day I'll be able to justify a set, so I hope Meze is still around then.
i’ve been loving these videos so much, may or may not have been rewatching some of my favorites while i’m at home sick. keep up the great work man. i love the content
I finally got some headphones with some proper soundstage about a week ago. I ran off to listen to September after you reminded me about the bongo man in this video. I have found him.
I know that I’m probably not a person to judge headphones because I’m not an audiophile, but the Stax Lambda sound nothing like I expected a pair of headphones from the 80’s. It’s sounds absolutely amazing for something that old, it’s amazing how well it’s held up!
I was listening to it thinking "that's nothing special compare to hurr durr six hungus" and then I see your comment. Wow. Kinda sad I threw away an old Sony headphone because the headband broke. In my defense I didn't know how to fix things yet back then, was 13 or something
As much fun as it is when you cover budget gear, I also like seeing these stratospheric pieces of equipment. It's fun to see what engineers can do when you give them a big budget. That's why I like reading about Ferraris and Hondas equally.
Used the code. 99 Classics have been ordered! I nearly bought some a couple of days ago, but the price was too similar to the Hifiman Sundara, so I bought the Hifimans instead. Thanks to you I have now bought two pairs of headphones this month haha. Oh dear. I love your videos mate, you've turned me into a full blown audiophile within the span of about 6 months. I too am a drummer and music has been the most important thing in my life (along with cars) since I was about 7 years old and my dad first played me Houses of the Holy. Thanks for the code, mate. I've been eyeing Meze's for months after your videos and after rocking 20 euro sennies for YEARS I'm so excited to finally get me some proper headphones. Checked many reviews and they're all like "theses are pretty dope, even for gaming, you're good with theses", and also your experience and videos. Phoar, I swear, after watching you for months, I'd trust you with my life when it comes to sound equipment. I really hope you also get something out of me using that code.
Bro the HurrDurrs sounded cheap in comparison to the Meze's. I bought the Samson se850's and know how good those sound like, and they werde compared to the HurrDurrs and never stood a chance.
I just learned these existed this morning. Good timing lad. You know the headphones are good when it sounds exactly the same through the ears on a stand as listening to the song on its own.
Yea but you're hearing the audio to the extent your KZ's can present them. The real quality of the HurrDurrs or the Meze's are probably lightyears away. I've got a pair of zsn pros as well, they sound really nice and mellow. But I don't think your thrid eye is still closed here
They should be proud. Beyerdynamic, Sennheiser, Sony, and Audio Technica have been industry giants for the past two decades or so, and along comes Meze. Swinging high and hard right from the start, and they put themselves up alongside giants.
Hey dank, i know you comment on how much youtube compression messes with the “freakish ears on a stand”, why not upload the audio files for us to download and listen in the full quality? Just a thought, probably wont make _that_ much of a difference due to the other variables (like you said, it’ll mostly sound like the speaker its coming from) Uhhh yeah those headphones are gorgeous btw
@@LucyTheCat The problem is also the "ears on a stand" themselves. You need almost 100 000$ to get professional ears on a stand that can record things properly, sadly
@@Zeveulesaussure yeah i realise that, i just think it would be (somewhat) useful for those who are actually looking to buy, which i know is a minority as most people come to dank for the personality he has, rather than the headphones, but for people like me who are just curious about how big a difference there is, would be a neato little thing
@@LucyTheCat Of course it would be useful, but to hear the difference you need an headphone as good as those ones or better, and a proper amp, etc. And Dank will need a proper record setup, as I say probably 10, 100 or more times more expensive than the ears on a stand. So if you wanna hear the difference, just go to the closest specialized shop near you, in 99.9% of the time in those shops you've got passionate people that will love to help you, and make you listen to the actual headphones !

I purchased a pair of the meze empyrean phoenix few months ago and he spittin facts. These things feel truly luxurious to wear and are easy to run out of pretty much anything. Hell even when I gaming by myself and the boys aren't online I will toss my gaming headset to the side grab the adapter and play by myself for hours with these on my noggin. super comfortable and sound great. Plus I ALWAYS have the issue if my big ol ears getting hot whenever I wear any type of headset and with these my ears stay nice and cool.
Wow!! Do they sound that much better than the gaming headset or do you prefer how the Meze headphones keep your ears cool? I’m wondering if expensive headphones really do sound better than budget headsets.
@@hmmnope9231 Using the meze ones is just a superior experience, sound and comfort wise they are amazing, they do keep my ears very cool and feel nice for long gaming sessions. However, I will say if you have lots of friends you play with frequently its probably better to just a high end gaming headset so you can have a mic on it. If you don't mind coughing up even more money for a standalone mic to connect you could also do that.
Its crazy to me. the HD 6-hundo's have been my "these are the best o' the best" headphones for ages, but the Meze's and the Stax make them sound a bit fuzzy in comparison. even through the freakish silicone ears.
Way to go, Meze, your descriptions make me feel like I just cracked my back and laid down after a loooong stretch. "The Meze 12 Classics V2 successfully combines audio technology and build quality with modern craftsmanship. Its soft curves and dark, mysterious body inspire a complete sensorial experience that will ravish your whole being. Yo man, try the disco's. It's a headphone made by a Brazilian company called "Kuba". It's a hell of a customizable headphone and the owner of the company has a audiophile channel (one of the only audiophile channels on Brazil) called "mind the headphone", he is a super cool guy and the disco's are some nice headphones.
Same here, the Classics are the best pair of headphones I've ever owned, but 4K can be better spent elsewhere... he also got me to rejuvenate and fall in love again with my ancient iPod.
@@brettzolstick989 I too am in the crowd of "bought the 99 classics and learned about Meze bc of dankpods" and honestly I really like them. I picked up a pair of them as well as a basic DAC which ran me another couple hungeos. Truth be told the DAC isn't super necessary as they'll run out of a PC or even a phone just fine, it's just to really squeeze the most out of them. I'm not an audiophile by any measure but they're easily the nicest sounding things I own, are pretty 3D sounding so I can soundwhore well in games, and are so, so much more comfortable than my old pair that gave me jaw aches. If you have the money kicking around, I can recommend them.
I saw them in a convention last week and i really regret not trying them out. Idk, their booth was sitting in the corner all fancy and exclusive looking which kinda spooked my financially-challenged self away. It's like my ears were unworthy for them. And yeah i've finally got a chance to listen to the hurdurr six hungos in that convention. Which, among other flagship headphones i've tried there, the HD600 were definitely the highlight, not only is it super comfortable, it also sounds sooooo pleasant, it's definitely gonna be my endgame someday. i just wanted to thank you because you're the first person that got me interested in this hobby (and the legend that is the HD600)
I've had a pair of used HD650's for over 10 years paired with an Asus Xonar STX sound card, I remember the first time I wore them I had that experience where I had to take them off because I thought the sound was coming out of speakers all around me. I purchased the Meze 99's they are great for music not as good for gaming as my HD650's, not as accurate but warm and a lot of fun.
protip with the 99s, replace the ear pads. they won't look as good but they'll sound better. had the neos, everyone complained about how the bass is fatiguing, swaped to a pair of the brainwavez hybrid earpads, sound a thousand times better.
@@jinxedpenguin that's exactly what I've been using the 99's for, Sennheiser is better for a lot of things including using as my gaming headphones, but doesn't beat the 99's for that kind of music.
I always love seeing people inject their culture into products, I’m amazed by how meze manages to make traditional looking patterns and keep it super modern, mucho respecto
When you wrote that “that’s why the best games coming out are made by independent companies” that’s when I knew I had to like. I will almost always take an indie game over triple A titles. Hey man, I just want to thank you for posting this video. I've been watching you all through covid and just hearing another person with similar interests to me has been very comforting. I live in BC Canada so I've been watching tiktoks about the floods and talking to stranded friends super hungover from last night and this is exactly what I needed to brighten my day. Thank you
Seeing how you've always recommended these headphones (and how there's a hefty discount), I decided to go in on a pair of 99 classics. Hope they don't disappoint!
"Good headphones stay good" As a noob in audiophile but took a long shot buying Grado SR60e and Fiio F9 Pro both secondhand recently, I can vouch for this. Yes they're not 40 years old, probably 5 top, but honestly the only thing that aged is the pads/bud bits. But even those should be fine for good headphones under 20 years, and proper maintenance (in this case I'm sure if you can buy secondhand, the previous owner would be cautious with the cans). As for the sound.. well, I can't not use them everyday.
When I was researching headphones I ended up going with HiFimann Sundaras over Meze 99s but it was a close call (sadly empyreans were not in my budget) but now I might be able to swing a pair of neo 99s as well. I never knew headphones could change music/ gaming for me like it has, but your dirty bud channel has helped a lot!
Based on your review and demo, I bought a set of Empyrean Phoenix after seeing the jaw dropping red finish. I use them every day. They FEEL just like you'd expect them to feel. It was indulgent. But they never struggle and always make me smile. Thanks Wade!
I didn't go into this video expecting to purchase some audiophile headphones, but now in a few days I will be the proud owner of some '99 Neos. Best channel on RUclips
This guy makes really good videos, I've even seen him on my Twitch recommended channels! (I literally just realized you hit 1 million subs recently, congrats!!!)
These almost sound like you just played the audio directly - which is great, because that means that they play the music back pretty much "as it should be".
When I first saw you show of the Meze 99 Classics, I was immediately looking at pricing and debating whether or not it would be a good idea. But it was your discount code in this video that really pushed me over the edge. I actually paused the video to go nab a pair so I can smell them for myself. Looking forward to hearing my favorite tunes out of the FiiO BTR5 I also got at your recommendation. I've yet to be disappointed in your taste, so here's to another amazing piece of kit that I learned about from you, mate. Thanks for what you do, and looking forward to more in the days to come!
I love your content and honestly can say you've made me care so much more about my audio experiences. I would love to know how some of these nicer headphones hold up with non-musical experiences such as movies or gaming though.

Pagani reference in the PFP
Fun fact:
The Stax have such a high impedance (the amount of power required to run them), that they're not measured in ohms.
They're measured in **kilohms**.
To review:
Meze Empyrean - 32ohm
Sennheiser HD 600 (by ol' mate senny) - 300ohm
(prepare yourself)
Stax Lambda: 122 ... thousand ohm.
122,000ohm.
122kilOhm headphones. This is why they require such POWER!
TL;DR:
The Stax Lambda require 203 times MORE POWER than the SENNHEISER;
and 3812(.5) times more power than the Maze Empereans.
Holy dingus that is a lot of power.
you'd need a blessing from zeus to harness the electricity and actually use that thing
I bet you could use a transformer to power them off a smaller amp as it's more the voltage not the power that's needed
@@eggegg2873 Transformers have huge inductance, so there'll probably be a lot of amplitude distortions towards higher frequencies and also phase shift. I'm not a soud engineer though, just studying for electrical engineering.
