In United States, Swelling of leg and Ankle is very common. This video focuses on top 10 causes of Ankle and Leg Swelling. This is very common in the sedentary population. Specially high incidence in seen in NewYork, California, Texas, Florida, Chicago Etc.
Ankle and leg swelling is a very common presentation. The most common is trauma in which there is either a fracture or a sprain. This video is based on non traumatic causes of ankle edema. Ankle and Foot edema can result from a large number of medical disorders which include heart, kidney and liver ailments. Also local disorders like venous and lymphatic disorders will also lead to ankle edema . Along with that insect bites and infection can also cause swelling in ankle. Pregnancy is also an important cause. Also if you have hypothyroidism it is also an important reason of ankle edema

Well explained. Recently from 10 days i got swelling in ancle area and pain. I haveli flat foot. Only in right leg ankle I got this . Standing long timecpain more and swelling. On rest time it may come down. One of the doctor checked and suggested that use silicon arch support. After use pain come down. But swelling yet to come down. Pl. Suggest

I’ve had a painful lower leg and now swollen ankle for a week. My doctor told me to not panic and just take a pain killer and inflammation medication. However this is worrying given that she was not aware of any possible causes of a swollen ankle/leg. DVT was ruled out but nothing else was tested.

@@phatakanuradha As a physiotherapist, here is my view for this issue, Orthostatic edema due to standing a long time, or travelling to a longer distance. Elevate your leg and then the fluids will go back from legs. Consider an early sign of circulatory issue, but it is common, I have it, my aunt have it. We can do something to improve our circulation. do exercise, reduce weight, be active as well as take break and elevate the leg, ankle Pumps in elevation is a great way to reduce orthostatic edema. But its not going by rest, if there is night pain, or if there is associated signs and symptoms, please check with your family doctor. Have a wonderful day.

For constipation I had tested thru endoscopy and colonoscopy...there was no problem. After this , for 2 weeks medicine like HP kit were having. After one week I have got angle swelling, pain and redness like blood clots in some of the place in calf to ankle portion. I had visited one surgeon he gave some antibiotics for 1 week. Now when I stand I am getting pain in angle area. But redness gone. Is the cause due to HP kit medicine?

Very good video. I suffer from ankle swelling in my left leg alone. Unbearable pain and unable to move around even within the house. Consulted ortho. He prescribed Pragab NT half tablet in the night for 5 days. Took X-rays but no fracture found. Doctor said foot is deformed and advised rest. I feel helpless and miserable as i am not able to do my normal work. I don't know the cause for the pain. I am diabetic, have bp and hypothyroidism. But i take medicines and everything under control. Sir since I tore my acl, after a few days my ankle became too sore and was painful while walking. My orthopedic checked and said there's nothing to worry about.
Now 16 days post ACL surgery also I experience swelling and pain in ankle, is this normal?
Thanks for the information! The swelling for me has mostly been in my feet, they've been turning purplish during the day when I'm up. I've noticed numbness and extreme stiffness in both feet and those feelings are spreading up my legs. I am not the healthiest person, so I was wondering if this was undiagnosed diabetes or something similar. This started for me about 4 days ago, so I think I'll need to make a doctors appointment.

Very informative video, although I still have questions for my case:
I am in relatively good health, frequently exercise e.g. jumping rope for >30 mins a day, not overweight, not diabetic, no heart conditions. However, my left ankle and the outside of my left foot have had a small amount of swelling/edema that gradually increases during the day and then mostly disappears after sleeping at night. I don't see any difference between my left and right legs, and my right ankle & foot are not swelling at all. I'm not on any medications and haven't had any recent injuries, but this situation has been present for a little over 6 months with no change.
I am able to massage the left foot to reduce some swelling during the day, but gradually it builds back up until I rest and/or elevate the foot.
What could cause this unilateral foot & ankle swelling?

Excellent explanation. I have swelling in the left ankle. It is pitting. due to sciatica i have been trying to stand most of the time and at night keep a pillow under the knees to help reduce sciatica pain. could this have caused it? what should I do to try and reduce the swelling

That’s what I would like to know, can swelling problem be cured completely! Well I know my swelling is not due to gallbladder disease, I had my gallbladder out in 2007 due to gallstones. I do get elevated liver enzymes and pain in my liver often. But I don’t know what causes that, I just know that without a gallbladder, (a storage unit for bile), The liver works harder because, it Hass to make the bile salts and things necessary to work with the pancreas in the digestive system for digestion. With the gallbladder storage unit when you consume foods liquids whatever, it pulls from the gallbladder for digestion. But without a gallbladder the liver Hass to make it fresh and new each time which puts a lot of stress on the liver. My doctor told me that when I had my gallbladder removed. I don’t know anything much beyond that, I don’t know if foods and other things are an issue with no gallbladder I have no idea
@@linden5576 I think eating has to do with it. Maybe look into liver cleansing foods. Cause an overworked liver could be dangerous. Some natural spices like turmeric, black pepper, and I think curry is one too. They're really good for the liver. Then also artichokes are good too. If these are harder to buy I would say try to eat healthy as you can over all. More salads, soups, fish, etc. Hope this helps.

My mummy has swelling over ankle region from almost 4-5 months.
Recently she also have knee n ankle joint pain so we visited our orthopedic doctor(almost a monthb4) , her swellings increased after eating tablets, so tablets have been stopped n she is only applying the prescribed ointment. Hello Sir my mom was prescribed Amlodepine and lisinopril Neurovit Forte and vasoprin because she had stroke. She also has thyroid on her neck. Now her feet is swollen and stomach hurts. The young doctor seems to be glueless she prescribed Athrotec and stomach soothing bottle medicine like that of cough( I forgot the name) please Sir what do you advise
The lisinopril is causing the cough. That is the main side effect, my so called doctor prescribed it to me, but I couldn't take it due to the long list of side effects it has. They always prescribe it because it's cheap but it does more harm than good. Now I'm on Losartan htz; it has a diuretic in it. I hope your mom gets better.

I have painless ankle swelling. Initially I got swelling in both ankels and wrists. I consulted doctors and got all the tests done. Everything turned out to be normal. After few months (2-3) again I got similar swelling. But these days the swelling is only in the right ankle. And it is not a very bulky swelling. It's very mild kind of swelling. I don't know what is the problem.
