Pan Tadeusz My RS3 is all real sound. Nothing fake added inside. That’s the one thing that bugs me with the M2. Fake sound inside.

This M340i is the one to have. The 2.0litre powered 320i (181bhp) and 330i (255bhp) feel a little underpowered to me. And they both don't sound that good at all either. The 382bhp straight six in the M340i is powerful enough and sounds awesome too.

Agreed! 340i xDrive is perfect for me. Not a purist BMW due to xDrive but for real world use in the UK it's perfect + great engine and practicality.

the new M cars are going to be fast as hell. You should race the new BMW m3 (when it comes out) vs. an old supercar like the Lexus LFA, Lambo murcielago etc... it will be crazy to see a saloon beating these kind of cars

How come it looks like Carwow is the only publication doing these type of performance comparisons? What are the rest doing? This isn't even in the UK and was probably shot during the media drive for the new 3 Series. Quite a privilege to be allowed to do this test so early on.

James N It’s been discussed. They could have built their own car, but would have been 120k plus like GTR. With GTR poor sales, Toyota decided not to.
You can’t build a limited car with a bespoke chassis and engine for only that one particular model cheap. Shared platforms bring cost down.

M2 may have more headline bhp but what’s the at the wheel figure, I wouldn’t be surprised if both cars are similar.

im not a huge bmw-fan, but the new m340i xdrive looks soooooo damn good. it's the perfect sedan too. nice performance, straight6, all wheel drive, good exhaust notes, comfortable, high quality interior... you simply can't go wrong with such a timeless, beautiful ride ;)
Ehh. I don't want an all wheel drive BMW. BMWs are fun because of weight balance and rwd handling. Xdrive just makes the car more nose heavy and have understeer tendencies.

The Audi RS models have a good market and family men wanting a wagon they can carry the family in and have done fun have to resort to Audi or in the larger segment, Porsche and Merc as well. I want the manual rear wheel drivetrain in that four door chassis. But for some reason BMW has lost their mind and decided to build EXACTLY the same as Mercedes C43 AMG or the Audi S4. It's like they were planning to build all these cars on the same badge engineered platform in the future anyway.

The M Performance cars of BMW are so good this days, so close to the full M cars in terms of power, look, handeling. If you don't go to track days and you want the nicest setting available, more exclusive than the standard setting cars but you don't want the FULL M's with the even better chassis => go for it!
Can you please make a drag video on the following vehicles. 1. Latest M340i sedan 2. Latest C43 sedan 3. Latest Genesis G80 4. Latest KIA Stinger 5. Latest Audi S4

BMW turning in to TVR with every car just being fast. The problem is there is little ceiling for the m cars when a run of the mill 340i will do 12.5 1/4 stock.
Guarantee you'll be able to tune the M340i to ~450hp and you have your m3 for $20-30k cheaper 😁 If it already has 390hp, an extra 50-60hp is a pretty basic tune. This will probably be my next car.
This is only the "M-performance" 340i. Imagine what an M3 would do with the new B58 derived M engine (the last F82 M3 had a S55 which was derived from the N55 block).
Trades46 S58 will be a beast. Hope they have RWD in the new M3/4. Although I can’t imagine they offer RWD in the M340i and not the new M3.
I was just watching old carwow videos until this popped up and I pressed the video immediately. Pls do more car reviews mat and fun drag races. This however was not that great. Review the model 3 tesla and many other more suvs. Keep up the good work
8 speed auto shifts faster than a 7 speed Double Clutch Gearbox? Damn nice. A good reason to buy a normal x40i over an M-model with the i6 turbo engine if you just want it for daily. Chip it and you got an baby M-car.

There's no doubt that both of these cars are seriously underrated in power as usual by BMW. I'm sure those numbers are more likely at the wheel.

Prerrty sure if the M2C had the DCT option, it would not have been even close on the standing drag race as you can see the manual gear changes are what is interrupting the acceleration. In the M2C. I get the point of the video is to make a comparison to a rwd full track car. Pretty impressive performance from a non “M car”. This shows BMW is putting a lot of performance in their entire line and the need for these “M-lite” models. These “M-lite” models are competition for the Audi and MB full performance models. Way to raise the bar BMW.

Great Video. In the drag race from stand still the M340i started on wet surface and the M2 on the dry part.
I have watched the video cayenne turbo vs rs4. The rs4 did it in 12.2-12.3 sec. So that means that the m340i is just 0.2-0.3 sec slower then the rs4 so i think the new m3/4 its gonna be much faster right?:p

@@WindWalker13 No. Watch the high level brake light. Watch the entire launch. It's the brake lights. He held brakes, let go at launch and for some reason braked again for a second immediately after launch
I say this was due to a marketing strategy, the M340i had to as far as possible not be quicker than the M2 Comp and the results were manipulated from the get go

The M2 DCT would walk the 3 series... but you can tell the guy driving the M2 was having fun? And that’s all that matters!
More power & less weight of course, but keep in mind the M340i was on the wet side of the track so that X Drive system did well. If i had to guess they will have drag times within 0.1sec on a proper track. Roll race no comparison.

Good to see you put the automatic in the proper gear for the rolling race this time. Wish you had done it that way in many of the previous races, don't know why it wasn't, but hopefully this is the new norm because you have lots of good comparos.

And just to prove my point, I have a M3 E46 with a slight tune, I've had it from new, Today on the motorway I got into a blast with a 2019 RS5, I did not expect to even come close to keeping up with that hyped up super machine, to be behind and watch him hit the rev limiter over and over and not get away from my car was quite sad. maybe I should have slowed down to make him believe his car is fast. The secret which a lot of drivers don't know is you have to keep the revs up.

380hp in M340i why would one buy an M3? I ABSOLUTELY love new look of 3 series only thing I'm not fan of is digital dashboard but luckily you can get analog one and save couple grand.
