Or use $600 to put a tune on it and watch it lap the Beemer

Says a lot about the Type R that it's being compared to a car twice its price.
Hardly, the M2 isn't double the price, it's £10k less than double. An M240i is the same price and still demolishes the Type R in every way.
Keep in mind the Type R also has a lot more room for additional buildable aftermarket horsepower (some of these are already at well over 400 hp) and a whole crap load of suspension upgrades. And the reliable Honda nameplate to boot. Not so much for the Beemer. Very little support offered from the aftermarket, and as well from BMW itself.
Doctor Zaius BMW has tons of Aftermarket support
@@ZEWCHOOB where i live the BMtroublu is more than double the price.. and even if it wasnt and say was only 1/3 more its still not worth it over the CTR.. Honda all the way.
@@pswmetalmonkey An M2 is better than a Civic Type R in literally every single way. The Civic just looks fucking awful. And 300 BHP FWD, ooo wow, ho exciting! Been thinking of selling my 15 Sti for a civic type r, living in AZ the awd is pointless for me.

I live in FL and got rid of my S2000 for a 19 Type R. I have made a lot of mistakes in my life but trading in my second s2000 for the Type R is not one of them. I fucking love this car so much. I could talk your ear off for hours about it but it be brief, it's a phenomenal car. My brother has a 17 STi and while its definitely quick, I don't feel like it's fast. Vinskikauski Amourelius You seem to forget that's not what 98% of car buyers aim to or wish to do either, they buy a car because they like it and drive it like normal people on the road. And that's a good thing.
noth606 true, not everyone buys cars/motorcyles to be the next Rossi aiming to break records. Some have the financial freedom to buy nice expensive sport cars, and some are true enthusiasts who appreciate what the machine can do. Not to say lack of skill buyers dont appreciate it, they are just limited by lack of trust i what it can do or just scared in general of crashing their precious trophy car. With that said, my statement was intended for those that buys expensive sport cars and think they are the shit. Plenty of vids here to exemplify that btw. Crashing expensive and often collectible vehicles due to lack of sense and skill. But hey, this is Murica!!!! SEND IT!!!!

What I love about the Type R, is that you save 30k on the M2C, spent another 10k - 15k on the chassis and engine and I'm sure the Type R will blow the M2C away on the track.
Great review lads. Subscribed.
But then you still have a 4 banger ricer car with fwd. The M2 has rwd and a very good inline 6. If you spent 20k on the M2c you can blow Ferraris.
@@bamphmx-5548 I mean, firstly that's your own opinion regarding the In-line 4 vs. In-line 6. Yes it would be nice to have a RWD car with more power. But my point was that the Type R is a much better track car for value of money. Like I said, the Type R is 30k CHEAPER than the M2, and only has 0.9s difference on the track. All I care about is track times in this case. And the Type R is so much better than the M2 because I don't have to spend as much money for the same/more performance.
Of course you could spend an extra 20k on the M2 and destroy Ferrari's/Porsche's whatever. But that amounts to TWO Type R's. I ain't rich, the Type R is already out of my budget so this is all "realistic hypothetical"

As a 2020 M2C owner, this started to make me sweat lol. Great content, keep it up!
People who hate on the type r really don’t know what it can do... one of the fastest track fwd car, only 300hp? No problem HP isn’t always everything, and for those who think HP is everything and think it’s slow just because it only has 300, then you don’t know much. For example a v6 camaro is faster than a rt charger because of the weight. Not always about HP and Cylinders, the way the Type R drives around corner feels like it’s glued to the ground
Yeah I set fastest time of the day in a track sprint and there was some pretty powerful muscle cars in the group. Cornering speed gave me the advantage in certain section of the track to get a good time.
I’m very BMW biased, but yea, that civic is good little car. Great comparison.
I didn’t know that Thomas was that good of a driver!
He wanted the BMW to win so drove ragged to mske sure it beat the type r as he knew he didnlt put that much effort when he set the time on the CTR. You can see he wasn't really trying on the CTR. I just found out that I am going to have to commute about 250 miles round trip 4 days a week so I just bought a 2019 Touring CTR sight unseen never drove one but it will be her in a couple day wearing some high performance Winter tires and my summer tires in the back of the truck so time will tell, I wanted decent comfort reliability and decent gas mileage... and to destroy my Central Missouri Backroads when I get near my house so I think this will be a winner. Yes it's ridiculous looking and I am old but I still love corners and speed.
Both superb, I’d love them both. For my pocket, though it’d have to be the Honda. Apart from the fact that it is ūber practical and reliable on top of its legendary pace, I think it’s gonna be a collectors car, eventually. I’d love the Beemer as a wee plaything, though. Another great video guys. Just love the Canadian pronunciation of any word with ou, in it!
What a great comparison, this makes expensive brands reconsider their price point. Imagine what that R could do with a set of coilovers and a re-burn.
This was the first video I saw from you. You guys are really entertaining and work dreat together 😎👍
Great track-battle, fun to watch!
I think these two cars are quite comparable in terms of track performance. So I really like, that you just did that regardless what one could think of the comparison. The web is full of comparisons between M2, M4, C63, RS4 and so on. This one was really interesting 👍
I really would like to hear a little more of the impressions you've got regarding to the steering, brakes, how likely it turns in etc. Especially the things each of the cars does quite better than the other one.
Besides I really like to have a comparison with a Renault Megane RS, but that's just a personal thing 😄
Keep doing, great work!
😎💪
For 25k more I expected the m2 competition pack to be better!
TheAftermath1987 beauty costs a lot of money
@@haytchdee3 personally i prefer the look of the CTR, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
NPC Dude what about interior though?
@@haytchdee3 who the fk cares about interior?

I’ll finally be taking delivery of an M2C in about a week, but the Type R is an impressive little machine from Honda. It’s nice to see them making cars like that. Seems like you’ll be having fun either way you go,and in my book, that’s all that matters.
I’m an M2 fan (and owner) and also a longtime Honda nut. Honda finally dumped the sand out and made a properly fast, capable car. Not many people are cross-shopping these cars as they’re so different, but it’s still a really interesting comparison.
Actually the Type R outruns the bmw m2 on nurburgring ....Type R lap time 7:43.8 and M2 lap time 7.58
www.motor1.com/features/143449/civic-type-r-lap-times/
The car was slightly modified and also not a Production model though.
yeah and it was infotainment system was taken out and the stock seats with various other mods, the actual lap with a stock civic is about 8 minutes, not to hate it's a great car
@@user-eu7cn1ht3h Those "mods" were to offset the weight of the suspended rollcage. The only real confirmed mod the Type R had was non-stock tires.
The Ring lap time doesn't mean too much. Honda was chasing that time and had multiple attempts at it.
I've been waiting for this, I clicked so fast
Impressive powerslide in M2. You two know how to get the power down. Great review. Informative. And just nice. 👍.

At Nürburgring, The BMW driver did not push the M2 enough. The Civic Type R was almost on the limit the whole time.
It is similar to the huracan performante and the porsche 918.
And the people who are commenting about 1 second are just dumb...1 second is a pretty big time.
1 second is the difference between a ferrari 458 and a chevy camaro ss at a proper track.
The question is, where the difference comes from. Tires is the first question. Second is, straight line speed. This would be a much better test if it was a regular M2, not the Competition pack.
@@nickar2405 I agree...BMW is just charging too much for its cars
But still as far as track times are consider they're unbeatable
"This car does look a bit ridiculous but it's what's underneath that counts." The first part of this statement is 100% accurate.
That Type R is a keeper
Give a proper driver to the Type R..
Truly amazing that the Civic TypeR is only a second slower...for $30,000 grand less! If you invested in some performance mods for the TypeR for like another 50-60hp it would easily beat the M2.
Or did some research and invested those 30.000 in the stock market you could buy an NSX after a you have grown tired of the Type R... Ridiculous price difference between these two cars, really.
Nothing amazing about that. The Civic is an econo car built for the track while the BMW is a premium sport RWD coupe.
Why are they running a cheap type r against a real car.
@@boss4330 It isn't that special. I have a 4 series. The "premiumness" grows old, a good driving experience stays forever (hence why all classics have shot up in value).
@@aaa84gt We are talking about an M2 here, not a run of the mill BMW. The M2 like any other M car is going to be a classic.
One of your best head to head videos, about two of the best drivers cars out today.
With the M2 having a better power to weight ratio, even as a heavier car, I am not surprised at the outcome. The fact that it was this close speaks volumes about the Type R. BMW needed an extra 100 hp and an extra $30,000 to shave less than a second off the Honda's lap. And on another course, the CTR might even be faster than the Ultimate Driving Machine.
They are both brilliant cars
