Heat it up a bit, use a 36mm socket on an extension with a heavy mallet and punch in the direction the forks are heading. Takes 10 minutes.
But you still have to clearance the guards
Love Beta. It is crazy to me how some of them have such a large turning radius, given Beta primarily caters to offroaders, trail riders, enduro riders and cross country racers -- all of which can and likely will need a tight turning radius; where the narket that Beya really DOESN'T occupy, motocross, is where tight turning radius means almost nothing.
LOL. I started doing this last night before seeing this. Glad i wasn't going down the wrong track!
Well done , pretty easy solution. I have two Betas and love the bikes and the company, but this is something they really need to address. Jonny Walker just picked up a 200, maybe he can light a fire under their ass to get this fixed.
We all know that it was about making the bike lighter by grinding off all unnecessary dead weight. LOL Great video. Ride safe my 2 wheel friends.
I am sure we got at least 2 oz off of her! LOL
I've seen a video of Johnny Walker where he talks about the radius turn on the Beta dirt bikes, and he orders pre bent radiators directly from the Beta factory. Seem that Beta makes pre bent radiators for the pros. Great video! 🤘
Hahaha why don’t they just put them on.
@@highlandcycles I thought the same thing when I saw the video. Anyway whatever 😁
@@easterntownshipsenduro hahaha #anywaywhatever
Yup. Work around for a poor design.
I've not seen this model in person, so my initial thought was to disassemble the radiators, egg out the mounting holes for the bolts and install them just a bit rocked backwards at the top.
But if Beta is offering pre-clearanced radiators to anyone, my idea is likely not possible.
on my 22 300
i used a piece of steel pipe the same thickness as the fork or slightly smaller
worked a treat then just a scotch bright pad to clean up the scuffs.
I also instead sanding down the brace i just notched out enough of the corner so it looked nice still.
The 300’s need a lot less clearance. Also, we are about going fast and hard, not so much about how it looks. Everyone has their priorities
Nice work! Looks like an aftermarket opportunity.
Totally
put a button head allen on the lower clamps.
Great video. Entertaining, and informative!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Whoa......dude.
This will get us around all the fallen Chinese weather ballons out there
Had to do the same to my 2021 200. Except my hubby dented my radiators by hitting a big socket. Stupid design by Beta. Tim at Beta told me back in ‘21 that basically it was news to him about the turning radius on the 200. I sold the bike shortly thereafter. I did not like the chassis and I had some electric issues.
Hahaha. They know. Johnny walker recently got a 200 and got pre bent radiators.
Nice work 👍
Have you seen the fourstrokes? Even a smaller radius because of the Regulator mountet on the steering column.
but the small steering angle doesn't really bother me at all
I think I remember hearing somewhere that you can use a KTM wheel on a beta. Maybe change the spacers?
Yes you can
Thanks for the quick response!
On the front I just changed the spacers and the brake disc?
@@Norcal2stroke I think the front it’s just the spacers.
I chose to run Motoes radiator guards. They hug the radiators very nicely and are plenty thick enough. I shimmed my stop bolts so the forks just miss the radiators and found I have enough turning radius to make me happy. No grinding or hammering required. I road a 02kx250 and found the beta now turns just as good. not sure if a modern KTM has more turning radius than an 02kx250, but my beta turns to where I'm comfortable and happy.
Do you have a 200? This one was no good even with the guards off. Fine in the open stuff but in really tight stuff it was just annoying
@@highlandcycles I have a 2022 300 race. When I brought it home, turning radius was ridiculous. I was able to cut the radius down to almost half what it was with just bringing the adjustors in to where the forks almost touch the radiators. Again, the Motoes guards did not create any issues and the radius is much better now. I was convinced I would need to dent the radiators, but I tried it out without doing that and was happy. The top of those tanks are just crimped on, as far as I understand. I didn't want to take the chance to break that seal by denting the tops in. Turns out, I didn't have to.
@@tbank86q nice. The 200’s are much worse. We brought the stops in without the braces on and it was still not tight enough so we “fixed” it. I like the bike but this is a silly problem. It’s only an issue in the super tight stuff it pushing the bike around the shop but it’s annoying. I’ll stick with Yamaha and KTM for now.
@@highlandcycles if I get some time in the near future... If I can find the time.. I would love to compare the turning radius between my beta, kx250 and kdx220. If I can get around to doing that, I'll hit you up. In the meantime, thanks for the fun content. I have little to no interest in the KTM brand bikes, but I've really been enjoying your vids. I can really relate to your vision and passion. Thank you.
@@tbank86q thanks. I was getting tired of KTM until this new one. If you get a chance you really should ride one. I let a die hard beta guy ride it and his beta is for sale now lol. For going fast I don’t think there is a better bike. The betas are definitely tuned for the hard stuff.
Do you think you could swap out the triple clamp bolts with some button-head bolts to gain clearance and grind less off the rad guards ?
Probably
I have an old 2003 KTM 125 SX that is the same way with the forks hitting the radiators. Why are they still designing these bikes like this?
No clue
My 23 390 has a voltage regulator on the left hand side im not sure where to move it 2
Hmmm, not sure.
I did this mod a while back and it’s been great. But now I’m wanting radiator guards, I’m wondering which ones might fit without modifying?
Bulletproof Designs fit but will need to be trimmed. I think they all will
Does it help to warm the radiators first?
I feel i dont want it to crack, so if heat helps?
Yes
Bata didn't mount the radiator correctly, wow, lol
I am really interested in a beta 200rr ever since I had a ktm200 which I wasn't as crazy about suspension wise but other than that it was good , how is this beta compression to the yz250? I really love Yamaha but beta has always been a bike I've been drooling over and have never ridden one and it's kinda expensive to buy the bike and then sell and lose on it idk I don't normally expect to get my money back or make anything on one , but anyway if you say Yamaha is as good as beta then I'd really consider getting one Just because I really like how they look
Go with the Race edition, I have the 200rr and the Sachs forks arent good. The race edition have KYB forks
I'm thinking of buying the '23 200rrRE but to put $11Gs++ and then purposely dent and grind it (devalue it) seems insane.
I'm guessing the radiators can't be moved back or down at all (tank too close and crossover radiator hose hole in frame no more room).
The '23 KTM 250xc is my other choice 🤔😁
Yeah. I looked long and hard and moving them but the crossover is the biggest issue. I really like my XC. Even more now lol
Exactly. Why the heck is the gas tank < 1cm from the radiators anyways. I dented my radiators on my 200 and every time I rode that bike I would get upset that I had to do something so stupid to a modern bike just for it to go down a trail. When I first bought the 200 I ran the steering stops to where the forks stopped 1mm off the radiators. I was hitting the steering stops just riding my usual stuff where that has never been an issue before.
@@my-max-media7621 not sure. I know my XC will do about 77.
Just get a billet fuel cap and call it good. If you're worried about devaluing it, you're probably not riding it in challenging enough terrain to need a tighter radius.
No aftermarket clamps with sensible hardware location?
Nope.
Didn't have to take a hammer to my 23 TPI'S rads to get full radius....
Me neither
@@highlandcycles I mean you're also smart enough to not buy a tpi
@@sawyerlewellen8700 exactly
Its too bad this has to be done to Betas to get a decent turning radius. 🤨
Yep. It’s dumb.
Damn that beta owner has a lot of trust in you !!
Anyway whatever.
Haha. He is a good friend
NOOOOOOO. You can do a much nicer job with heating the RAD up with a heat hun and a 17 or 22MM socket which is the same diameter as the fork. Makes it look OEM
Yeah but what about the rad guards? I don't have a milling machine or time to send them out to be clearanced then mounted back up then machined again and back and forth and back and forth. If the Italians had let some one ride the bike first they would have done this from the factory. Also, once it is dirty and banging around in the real world you won't even notice as you are able to turn the thing like it is supposed to.
Oh and a heat hun??? It looks more OEM if you spell correctly. hahahahah
@@highlandcycles I have a heat hun - been married to her for 57yrs & 9mos

Why does he have a zeppelin foundation logo on his bike? I work for zf lol.
Haha
@@highlandcycles I figured it out today while at work lol. We make the shocks that are on the beta 200 rr. I would be weary. Our quality control is horrendous lmao
@@bilboswaggens2975 Hahahahah
Pretty crude approach, I could not do to my Beta.
Hahaha, I knew you would say that. I am a function over fashion kind of guy. If I had a machine shop maybe but I just need it to work.
@@highlandcycles I am sorry but ...........cobbler at work stand back.
@@200xcBruce Hahaha, If the Italians had half a brain they would have made this work from the factory. One more reason I won't be buying a beta any time soon.
If all else fails, get a bigger hammer.!
