Think its finally time to OC my 980 ti. Hey young steve
Kakakakak
@@V4mplr3 The ravages of time!
@@TheVanillatech finally a use for this video... :D
@@V4mplr3 I came here thinking about OCing my 980Ti, I left thinking about buying an RX 5700 XT :)
It’s awesome how far this channel has come!
Still using this card in 2018 for 1440p Ultra/ High / Medium.... wow time have really past.
Same, I picked it up from some guy who didnt know what he had - 250 bucks for a FTW edition weeks after he purchased a 1080ti. I got a steal, steal. With Ryzen I'm at VERY comfrotable 60-100fps in most games on Ultra, with games like AC Odyssey Maxed out at 50-60fps at 1440p. Love it!
I should mention I got this 980ti a week or two after 1080ti came out at all...very lucky in my area, 4 years later they are now going for 250-300
@@mrapter7 u think thats lucky i got mine for £120 g1 gaming gigabyte one, triple fan
@@sturmgewehr449 lol picked mine up today $115
im still using mine 6 years now and just watercooled it, its still amazing does everything i want it to do :D
Keep up the good work bro. Enjoyable content
Keep it up man your a beast:) Super exited to see the performance on the sexy directCU3 Asus Cooler so please do a video on that as soon as you can thanks!
Enjoying your vids alot, good content and well made video - subbed
Wow, things have changed on your channel since this vid went out!

Great stuff as usual, been linking your tweaking guide to W3 & Gta5 on the webs. Hope it helps you out.
HumanLiveStock Awesome! That's always a big help. Spread the word. Thanks for your support!
good video. Manage to set my clock at 1.4g and 4001 just like this test. not sure what are the benefits of pushing the Memory ?
Thank you so much sure for sharing your Knowledge :D
Hi, thank you very much for your videos, they do help a lot most of us looking for an answer.
I have a very specific question regarding overclocking my Asus GTX 980 TI Strix.
I have the stock version 1000mhz clock (1075 clock boost) 7000mhz.
I find a lot of overclock for the already OC version, however I havent found the max overclock for my stock version. Would you be able to tell me what would be the best overclock for my via. Thanks in advance
Eden
Precision X 16 is only letting me up the voltage in increments of 12. How do I know how much voltage I am adding? Precision X shows 837 MV
One thing I didnt understand, why do you say that you touched the voltage if the Stock voltage is 1188mV?
I've already changed thermal paste on my 980ti Classified and now temps are 37° idle and 59° full.
Is still a great gpu in FHD games.
I love the TI series. They are so beastly, my 780ti with skyn3t bios is running at 1280mhz on air.
Will wait for the kepler TI, damn that's going to be sweet.
Subbed. i hope you remember me when you're famous =)
ayo holup
my temp always reaches 79 to 80 c on bf4 does that sound precise
Would really like to see an overclocked 980ti with a water cooler like evga hybrid and see the benchmarks, great work on the video tho
LimitGTX On it!
you know you could change the power management in your nvidia control panel to maximum performance right? that alone increases the cards power by 50%. U probably already know this but i wanted to let you know just in case.
Any recommendations for after market 980Ti coolers? preferably under ~$70USD. I currently have a reference card.
I want to over clock to preform at or above base/boost 1080.
SeabasR Artic Acelero extreme 4, i know i'm super late, maybe this could be useful to other.
your hair is perfect
Just liquid cooled my evga 980 ti sc FTW card with corsag hg100 adapter and h60 wat r cooler with minor modification to corsair adapter.. Getting 60c max temps, idles at mid 20s. Before was hitting 80c while gaming. If I could go back, I'd buy the evga hybrid (liquid looked from evga) because that during myself was al lot of work - required new case for radiator, a
I am using an asus geforce gtx 980ti I cant get over 200mhz core clock is it normal? its also the referenz design :)
and I cant change voltage why? its Stuck at 0.999v
Just bought myself a used one. I am VERY interested in performance haha here in 2020.
That curly goodness though, Steve.... haha
no 980sli oc vid?
Is anyone using this card with water cooling and custom bios for extreme overclocking?
Well with a custom fan profile and +25mv increase I was able to safely reach a stable 1503mhz on clocks with a max temp of 73degrees(reference blower) been testing it for about a week now and its pretty stable...I am waiting for the hybrid evga cooler to be available seems like pretty neat solution for a somewhat cheap price.
Damn, that is good :)
How can you damage it if you never touch the voltage while overclocking?
***** We did touch the voltage -- or tried to, anyway. It was capping at 1.187V. Suspecting an issue with the tuning software as we ran these tests when the card was yet unreleased, so it may not have been fully finalized for overclocking use. You can still damage it even if you left voltage alone, though, as running the GPU at a higher frequency will increase heat, which isn't great for any component if cooled inadequately and operating for long periods under load.
if doing SLI with these do u recommend overclocking...would you still see a 19% performance gain?
tinostarks Insane if you overclock these at SLI. Wait till drivers come out in the next month or 2 and watch more increase in fps on games.
Henry Charlotten why insane?
+tinostarks I'd recommend overclocking when you see that your hardware is having a hard time at its purchased spec, otherwise it's just a waste of time in my opinion.
I've got this card for my son for 60 bucks on a local listing and it isnt exactly trading blows with my 3060 TI but boy is it keeping up at 1080p vs my 1440p monitor!
yea got an x99 build for 150$
had a evga classified 980ti pretty sick, anything better than my laptop 1650 is a win
when you refer to "1400mhz" core are you refer to the normal clock or the boost clock? because stock reference 980ti is only like 1000mhz? that's 40% gain
My strix 980 ti stock clock speed was 1380MHz, boost speed is now OC'd to 1600MHz
no 980ti achives 1600 boost clock on air.
Desolation Dave prove it, what'd you're fire strike score. And what's your asic quality?
the max clock my 980Ti got on air (stable) was 1526Mhz with 84% ASIC quality. You must have a really shiny golden card to get it to 1600 on air. Really looking forward to slapping a block on my card and see how it goes :)
Bang4BuckPC Gamer love your channel mate!
I've got a 980 ti and a waterblock heading my way. What kind overclock are you expecting on a custom loop? Something similar to the stock air cooler?
josh L Really not sure yet, to be honest. I've got a unit on the way from EVGA, so we'll know soon! Let me know what your results are once you play around with it. In the meantime, we'll start working on the EVGA AIO unit once it's here and will post a new video.
Gamers Nexus Cool, thanks for the response!
Gamers Nexus Does the overclock throttle in demanding games with the reference cooler?
josh L Which waterblock did you get? Is it the titan x's one? A respond would be greatly appreciated as Im also planning on watercool the 980 ti when I get it.
hardsole34 EK titan x block works with 980 ti. they sell it on their site for 113 + shipping
I got both my 980ti sc+ from EVGA to do 150+ MHz on the GPU and 350+ MHz on the memory with a voltage boost of +24 0mV (I only raised the voltage not the power target).
It seemed rock solid stable, however being the wuss that I am after thorough testing I de-tuned the card to factory recommended settings and gave it a rest.
I'm waiting to see what everyone else can achieve with their TI's.
My GPU was stock overclock out of the box. It was 1300 on the core without me doing anything, the the GPU SHOULD be at 1190.
One of my 980 Ti's only 58% ASIC quality which is only letting me oc to 1200 mghz +50 on core or so. Really sucks because the first one I ordered has 68% and can get up close to 1450 with just barely upping the voltage.
Lower ASIC is better for water cooling, higher is better for air. I have a evga 980ti with a %70 asic, 1300 on the core. Very conservative
muinto legal cara !
Did the memory OC even help?
I went from 7,010mhz to 7,960mhz on my GTX 780ti and gained like 1% Fps in games.
Yeah oc memory does not effect on fps that much. You benefit more oc in core clock and memory if you use high resolution or lot of aa. Also memory does drain more wattage and generate more heat.
I found that ocing memory is just useless and makes the GPU run hotter, focus on your core clock.
josh Subet
Yeah core is the king. Even the factory oc models have only core overclocked.
Still the best GPU around in terms of price to performance. Even in November 2019 nothing comes close for £120-150 used. That is most likely a result of the sad state of the GPU market though over anything else!
Omg it's young steve
My reference 980ti is always on 84ºC during gaming
I really like how you reminded and warned everybody that OC-ing is dangerous, cause.. It's really overlooked nowadays.
Since GPU Boost 2.0 and similar/copied system on the AMD side, everybody is kinda really relaxed with OC-ing their card, not thing about wearing(°C) the card overtime.
Filip Pesic Thanks. Yeah, overclocking can kill the chip. Silicon actually likes heat, interestingly enough, but only to an extent. Best not to OC a reference card much, really, but the AIO units and aftermarket ones can handle it a bit better.
Gamers Nexus And the current/power is "cleaner" cause of the much more VRM phases. :)
Im not that OC Guy. I just wait for an OC Custom Version and buy that.
damn i wonder what the nvidia hbm cards are going to be like.
Non existence
I have a Gigabyte 980ti in a custom system I built, with +120 on the core, and +500 on memory. Performance is about equal to a 1660ti, maybe slightly faster.
I want two of these cards but no money FeelsBadMan
Put an AIO watercooler on it.
Simon White what if it leaks? also, what if you have 2 cards?
tinostarks good water coming never really leaks. You can zip tie an AIO to a GPU with the same reliability as normal use.
If you have two cards, all the better as long as you have the space in your case to mount multiple rads.
+Simon White that is how you burn your vrms. You will have to put like two, 1000rpm fans blowing at the vrms and memory. If you don't, you WILL kill your card.
josh Subet Not always true. There are many cheap GPU+AIO sleeves from companies like Corsair or NZXT that have sinks/fans for the vrms anyways.
Simon White I though we were talking about getto mounting a cpu cooler onto the gpu die. Companies do make great AIO water cooling for their gpus for like $80 more.
Hello! Thank you for your comments, first of all. I would like to start a thread regarding Overclocking my GTX 980ti Strix. I have finally overclocked (Maybe maxed out it). I have finally reached:
GPU Clock boost = 1350 (1489MHZ max)
Memory Clock = 7250MHZ
Temperature = 75C average
Voltage = 1180mV (+0)
Power target = 110% (in game, it hits 120% to 125%) that scares me.
fan = 100%
** GPU total speed shows 125%
As you can see, with +0 voltage on my Stock GTX 980ti Strix, I couldnt reach 1500MHZ and increasing the memory, I start losing FPS, so I dont know what is going wrong here.
On
Heaven 4.0 - 4x AA - 1080p (1920x1080) window mode, I have once reached 116FPS, with this settings. Anything else I try over that settings, I will end up around 105 FPS in heaven.
My big problem as I see is Power target. 110 is just not enough for me, gaming with these settings increase my Power target around 125% and at the end I lose FPS.
Any suggestion on how to reduce my Power target without underclocking my GPU?
Adding voltage will reduce power target?
Thank you guys in advance.

In Borderlands 3 - 47C
In TC Wildlands - 52C
In CS-GO - 46C
In PUBG - Lite - 41C
CPU TEMP max 41C
min 30C
@1080p All maxed out settings (Ultra where possible + Vsync OFF)
with vsync on max 40C
Test rig -
Gigabyte H97m
16GB Ram @ 1600mhz
4790k stock @ 4.4 GHZ boost
Gigabyte Windforce OC 980TI (1152/1753 stock) +349 GPU / +249 GPU (probably could have gone +600 here but it would not affect the temps much)
Stable in all tests, no benchmarks, only 3+ hours gameplay on all, unigine left on loop for 3 hours)
As a side note, the stock gigabyte cooler got to 84C in 30 minutes, after that TT occured and the games were unplayable.
Case used was a TT Core V1 without the side panel on, because of the clearance of the GPU as it has made the gpu a 4 slot model so i had to use a 30CM PCI-E extender cable making the gpu run outside the case.
just got gtx 980 ti 120 bucks with a 9600KF i5

sgtcojonez Who doesn't!?
My 980ti overclocks like a potato, quite frustrating
+124Callum124 My reference model overclocks pretty well. I'm getting +250MHz core/+430MHz mem with a custom fan profile. What OC's are you getting?
scorpian007 +150, +480 evga sc+oc edition
+124Callum124 well that's why, its already overclocked lol
Saul Goodman Yeah but thats still not high???
124Callum124 If it's already OC'd and you're getting another +150/+480 I'd be extremely happy with that
