Just finished this show. It was phenomenal and very similar to my story. These institutions are toxic and I’m so glad people are finally brave enough to speak up.
I’ve never seen a religion when people leave they make it their whole personality that their ex this “religion” except the lds church lol
The mormon experience is unique
Have you ever seen what a Muslim family does to a member who denounces the Muslim religion?
Mormonism is a cult, it occupies your whole life and becomes your whole personality. You cannot be "My name is X I am christian I go to a Baptist church once or twice a month" it's " I'm a Mormon my name is X did I mention I'm mormon? Mormon."
That's how you know it is a bit culty...
The saddest part yet was when she called the much-loved Mission President, and he treated her like that. Just for a second, when her wife tried to comfort her, there was a look of confusion, like, "One of the people I most respected in the world just told me I am fundamentally, morally wrong, and basically hung up on me. And I was so friendly, too." Ugh. It deepens my already fairly deep dislike for religion in general, and that organization in particular. They are an icon of loveable couples in this state, I wish them the very best.
What's heartbreaking is that it's the norm and not the exception. It's scary to put yourself out there, hoping for unconditional love, but getting backs turned against you. Hit me right in the feels.
What in the world? She had an affair! She cheated and you think that deserves a congratulatory pat on the back and “well done”?
@@OliviaTomuli She was forced into a false identity by a toxic cult, full stop. She and her ex-husband are both victims of a predatory, hyper-controlling scam. Never would've happened if that church wasn't so conservative and she could've been herself from day one.
@@OliviaTomulishe didn’t though…
Truth hurts
Why are they changing a religion that doesn’t agree with their lifestyle? Why not just leave or start another religion? Serious question
I think the title says it: “Mormon No More.”
You are right it is weird. I would accept that the Mormon church would not want me as a member because I don’t believe in the Book of Mormon and in Joseph Smith.
Take another look at the title “Mormon No More”. They left the church. They are not trying to change it.
There are some who are trying to change it but they left and aren’t Mormon any more hence the title
We need to hear more stories like these in these times.
So true!
Stories about cheating spouses?
@@DRT279 It can't really be cheating when she actually keep her sexuality secret to be accepted by her religion.
@@_PuppetMaster86 justify it however you like but you wouldn’t have like to be one of the husbands.
@@DRT279they were already miserable, at least they got answers
Heartbreaking tale filled with humanity, warmth, and struggle of being free to live and love. Can't stop watching.
Why don’t people say the same when a guy cheats on his wife and runs away with another woman?
Humanity has nothing to do with Gods will. God only sees clean and unclean people, holy or vile. Thats it. There is no humanity, thats mans perception of goodness, not Gods.
@@DRT279 EXACTLY!!!
So someone leaving their spouse and breaking their marriage is wholesome? I'm all for self discovery and happiness, but this isn't a situation that is to be celebrated. Under any other context it would be looked down upon. Man leaves his wife for another woman, woman leaves her husband for another man. It's a broken marriage. It happens and sometimes needs to happen for people to find happiness, but it shouldn't be thought of as a good thing or idolized. Idk I'm sorry if I'm telling you what to think, but this whole story just doesn't sit well for me in the light they're presenting it in (at least from this trailer)
Even though both these women broke a covenant they made with God and their spouse. God will hold then accountable
What’s name of the background song?
Home Wrecker. It’s bangin! 😂
The Joke by Brandi Carlile
I really feel like Sal and Lena ask too much at once. You left your spouses for each other, you have to give people time to adjust. Not everyone can be so open all at once.
Emotional openness and intellectual development is the responsibility of the individual; not time. They are not responsible for another’s openness or how long it takes to be open nor if it happens at all.
When everything is about you then it’s hard to see why people aren’t super happy for them. Look I ruined our family, why can’t you be happy for me. I say that I’ve never been happier. You should be okay with it because this other fool will come over and change our light bulbs. 😂
@@DRT279 What marriage? They were living like roomates with their husbands. That's not a marriage.
@@cynthiavaldez5941 I wonder why they were living like roommates???? Maybe because they were cheating on their husbands? They justify their cheating by saying we were living like roommates or in other words, I don’t need to put any effort because I have a new love. These women were victims because they said they were. Pathetic!
@@DRT279 They lived like roomates with their husbads for years before they met. They were friends first before they realized what was going on and they went to their husbands and told them before they did anything.
Go hear their interview on the mormon stories podcast where they explain everything.
I know you want to believe that they were cheating but they weren't. The truth is that they were living a lie and now they are living as their honest authemtic selves.
No amount of therapy or effort is going to make somebody straight. The fact rhat people think those marriages could have been saved or that any of what they went through was easy by getting divorced is absurd.
This idea in your head that you want to paint them as cheaters is just plain out factually incorrect. But I guess people would rather believe what they want to believe then hear the truth.
I often hear that God is the god of love, so opposing love must be the work of Satan. And of course it wasn't God that wrote the bible, it was men, interpreting things as they saw fit. So overall, love is to be protected and anyone who opposes that, well, you must have hate in your heart, and we know where that will get you in the end.
What do they say about cheating on your spouse?
The “god of love” is the only one of the two between “god” and “Satan” who murdered anyone in the Bible
DT they were forced to live in a cult. They escapes the cult. Be happy for them FFS.
@@jstuart1980 Really forced??? 😂 No one in LDS church is forced to do anything. Go to any church and if they say these are the commandments and you will feel happiness and peace by following them… is that really forced?
@@DRT279 Tell me how many times the phrase "follow the prophet" is uttered in the primary song? (54) How many times were the girls instructed from the time of their birth that there is "only one way to be happy?" At what age does the Church baptize kids? (8) How many other churches do Mormons take their kids to on average so that those 8 year old's can "choose" to be baptized in the Mormon church? (0) How does the Church talk about and treat people who choose to leave? (Lost, fallen, lazy learner) Is leaving celebrated in the same way as choosing to stay? You need to educate yourself on: undue influence, gaslighting, coercion, manipulation, love bombing, transcendental belief systems, and the BITE model. There is more than one way to "force" members of a high control group to do something.

Sad story, but very boringly presented. Yakyak
I’m all for accepting people for who they are, the only thing I think I don’t agree is Lena wanting to be accepted by Shane. He doesn’t have to accept her, it’s his right.
He’s actually more accepting now and more involved.
This couple are so cute . Remind me of me and my partner but no one can ever be as cute as us 😊
How do you see this tragedy as cute?

@DT you are what is wrong with the church these days. You. People are leaving the church in droves due to people just like you.
Really, because being unorganized would be a little chaotic wouldn't it.
As many people seem to be asking, if this were a story of a woman and man leaving their respective families for each other, would Hulu have made this series? Would they have been heroes? It happens all the time and society frowns on couples that find love when they are still married and leave their spouses. Been there, done that and I am not proud, but it happens. Why should these two be heroes?
The series would have been different if it were two single or divorced LDS ladies who fell in love, but these were married women.
Either shame them like you would a heterosexual couple in the same situation or glorify a hetero couple who found love outside their home.
I have absolutely no problem with someone changing religion or discovering their sexuality. But this story is not one that needs to be idolized. How is this any different for a wife leaving for another man, or a husband leaving for another woman? You're idolizing a broken marriage. Things happen, people aren't happy, and marriages break apart. It happens, it's unfortunate, and people need to find their happiness, even if it means leaving a marriage. But that is not a happy situation. It is certainly not one to be celebrated. You're pandering a broken marriage and broken hearts as a good thing. You're capitalizing on the aspect of sexuality and self discovery for views, when really you're just making a dollar off of people's pain and suffering.
then you obviously dont understand the joy that comes from being true to yourself
Just finished watching it and those two were made for each other, they’re both narcissistic. What the heck did Lena expect from Shane? Sheesh 🙄
An affair is an affair, a cheater is a cheater. Sally has no regrets being married to a man because of the children. Knowing what she knows now, she would do it all again 🤦🏽♀️ She doesn’t mind the cost of severely damaging another human. Yikes. If you could do it again, wouldn’t you want to leave the church and come out earlier, before the process of starting a family?
Also, mum just abandons all belief 🤔too good to be true. Scripted, fake, not a doco series. More like a badly written reality show.
They won’t be married long. They don’t mesh and they have a very weird relationship. They live in a fake fantasy that they have a normal relationship but they’re on 2 different pages.
Pish-posh! My husband I were married over 14 years before he died. Church priesthood members made bets that we wouldn't last six months. I need to point out we were completely different types of people. We also left the Mormon church for our own reasons. He never failed me and I never failed him.
@@laurabryant2779 Sorry for your loss. I’m happy to hear you had a great relationship.
Lena seems like a psychopath and does not want to be a mother to 7 kids
Left one cult to join a another. Hallelujah.
So they get to ride into the sunset and live their "happily ever after" but leave a wake of deviation and brokenness for their husbands? Nah. Have fun in that dysfunctional Brady Bunch when those kids are teenagers and it's no longer a fun extended play date. I hope those kids run to the stability of their fathers.
I support their lives and all that ... but the people I shed a tear for when I watched the ad for this was the husbands. You could see how their lives and hearts and families had been broken by these two deciding to dump their husbands and be together - and that's not coming from any concern about sexuality because I support all sexualities .. I just feel sorry for the blameless spouse who gets dumped by the partner out of the blue because they have moved onto someone else.
They positioned themselves as the victims, while the real victims were their husbands and children.
@@davidfrey5654 only if the church had told them it was okay in the first place then the men, wouldnt have to go through that and the WOMEN wouldnt have been hiding and dying emotionally. like do you understand how stressful it is to love someone you dont have any sort of attraction towards to for YEARS, its deppressing

Those two ladies have left a trail of emotional scars, pain, hurt and tears in the lives of their children and husbands.

This doesn’t deserve a rainbow. These women hinder LGBTQ activism. Peel it back and they’re just a couple of narcissists. They want everyone to be ok with the devastation they caused.
