I was on the show in 2012. He’s America’s cranky, but cool dad. During commercial breaks, when he’s not answering questions from the audience, he sings to himself, but he’s wearing a mike, so everyone can sing it. I was rocking a decent jewfro then, and he sang to himself how I had the same hair he had in the ‘70s. That was fun.
You never retired... you still managed to host even when staring death in the face, and amid the Covid pandemic... Rest in peace, Mr. Trebek. A legend. I can't imagine anyone else hosting Jeopardy. You will be sorely missed. :'(
Alex is amazing to have hosted a show that has been that successful for so long, while the television formats all over have change so much. "Jeopardy!" is one of the few holdovers from the great game show era that began in the mid-seventies. There's nothing finer than information and knowledge. Thanks for providing so much of them to Alex and the entire crew of "Jeopardy!"
He's totally opposite from his stuffy, know-it-all elite TV persona. Very warm, funny and engaging. The fact he said "thank you" to the make-up lady indicates he really treats all people with thoughtfulness. Most stars don't even speak to the crew, unless they are barking orders at them or cussing them out. Trebek seems like a decent guy, far beyond needing others to polish his ego.
Watch him when he hosted Classic Concentration. He was much looser and 30 years younger. He was still a pro but he would joke with the contestants and was really chill.
Caged the only way it will work is, the new host has to be awesome enough to usher in their own new era. As you were mentioning for example, Price is Right. They picked Drew Carey, a guy who had hosted shows before and demonstrated great charisma and poise. A strong enough character to move from a "Bob Barker era" to the "Drew Carey" era.
Alex Trebek's success has been earned every single step of the way--he started out working for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) in Toronto as an announcer doing station breaks-he moved up to doing short news stories and then he was asked to do a high school quiz show called "Reach for the Top"--it was then that his friend fellow Canadian the late Alan Thicke had him audition for a weekday game show for NBC called "The Wizard of Odds"--he got the job although the show didn't last long--the brass at NBC were impressed enough that they offered him further announcing jobs (High Rollers, Concentration etc)--then in the 1980's Merv Griffith was looking to revive Jeopardy and hired Mr. Trebek and the rest is history
Had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Trebek back in the early 2000's at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas. The whole time we were talking, I kept thinking to myself "I know this guy", but I couldn't figure out from where. I had to sneak a look at his badge before I realized why his voice sounded so familiar, and then it all clicked. It was during that brief period where he had shaved off his mustache, before growing it back again (anyone here remember when he finally shaved it off for keeps?), so he really did look completely anonymous at the time. Nice guy.

Alex was one of those rare people you don't see these days. A genuine human being. No guile. No BS. No airs. What you see is what he is. Now that he's gone there's only about four left. ☹️
Alex Trebek Donated 10 Million Dollars to an Ontario University, he donated money to several Universities all over USA and set up Scholarships, he bought several millions dollars worth of wild lands in California and donated it to the people as persevere/park. He did alot of charity work for kids in Africa. The man was and is one of the Greatest philanthropist as well as being one of the greatest TV Game Show host and TV parent/friend.
Spent some time with Mr. Trebek a few years back. Company I worked for had him come in to meet and greet some of our best customers. Probably spent about 36 hours on and off with him on the first visit (including an hour 1:1 in the car from the airport) and for 24 hours on his second visit. From that visit I feel I can say he is as nice and genuine as you see on screen. Not to mention smart, personable, a great conversationalist and a very hard worker. I don't recall him making one demand the entire time, except that we put his room under his assistant's name so the public wouldn't be able to ring his suite, which is more than reasonable (though we'd have listed him as anonymous even without him asking). He was so super gracious to all his fans and wouldn't leave a room until he had a chance to greet everyone no matter how far behind his allotted work time was. A true class act. Oh and he changed suits between our afternoon and evening events. How anyone could keep their clothes so perfect after being on a plane is beyond me.

Thank goodness for the subtitles. Or else I would have no way of knowing what they were saying.
He's Canadian, I never understand them!
Alex was one of those rare people you don't see these days. A genuine human being. No guile. No BS. No airs. What you see is what he is. Now that he's gone there's only about four left. ☹️
Wink Martindale, Bob Eubanks, Chuck Woolery and Pat Sajak, IIRC.
I have a great respect and appreciation for Alex Trebek and Jeopardy.
I REALLY LOVE YOU ALEX RESILIENT BRILLANT SOUL
We really lost a true treasure. One of the saddest losses in my lifetime. He will truly be missed.
I would love to give him a hug and a kiss... Alex ROCKS...
Rest in Final Jeopardy with a clue you can safely bet everything on, you beautiful bastard.
I'm convinced that very few game show hosts could adequately host Jeopardy. Trebek is an American icon.
He's smart enough but I doubt that he has the TV chops.
Okay then, he's a Canadian American icon.
Hoser
LOL! Lighten up. I stand corrected.
I just came here right after hearing the news this morning. You could tell he did what he loved to do.
we are so proud of you ,keep it up. we.love watching Jeopardy and you.God Bless.

he's gone
Jeopardy isn't gonna be the same without the King 👑

Rest easy big guy :(
My FAVORITE show, all these years!!! Love ya, Alex!
We will always miss you Alex
I feel happy to know that Alex Trebek has had a long full life
Alex Trebek was the Stan Lee of game shows. Now we lost both of them. Rest in peace. 'Nuff said.
Thanks for everything Sir
How anyone could keep their clothes so perfect after being on a plane is beyond me.
i hope jeopardy is cancelled when alex decides to retire. the show will not be the same without him
william strickler he wont retire...he will die before he retires
It'll be hard to find a suitable replacement
Yeah...They'll probably get some J.O. like Snoop Dogg
william strickler I thought the same about the price is right. Drew Carey does a pretty good job though.
William Strickler: Don't be surprised if they find a new host when he leaves. You may not like him or her originally but we'll warm up to that person after a while. Trebek wasn't the first/original host and may not be the last but may be the longest.
Farewell Alex. You will be missed. Rest In Peace
Rip Alex. A true American icon and an American treasure.
He was born and raised in Canada; he is Canadian 🇨🇦
@@samahen522 as I said. A true American icon. An American treasure.
