    I am SO pleased at the launch of products like Hycross, Hyryder and GV. To my mind, diesels must make way for strong hybrids and personally, I’d pick a strong hybrid over a diesel, petrol and an EV. No range anxiety, great city efficiency and hopefully reasonable performance for highway runs. If I hadn’t bought the Meridian already, I’d have picked the Innova Hycross in a heartbeat instead (despite, frustratingly, its pedestrian interior quality). Sri Lanka is a great example of a country where strong hybrid variants are seen across the board - no reason India couldn’t have similarly incentivised this format much earlier.

      @@motorinc Makes more sense than EV? Rationally thinking, I'd agree to this.
      If I were to choose between an EV and Hybrid options for the same car, I'd gravitate towards a hybrid more. But then again, given the current scenarios, I'm unsure about how many of us still prefer driving and hustling in the urban jungle.
      IMO, these new engine technologies, when they carve their way into commercial segment, will have a more significant ecological impact.

    I believe CNG should also be part of the comparison (as the grand vitara comes with that option).
    In the case of CNG the mileage will get a similar(~slightly lower) boost as the stong hybrid(when compared to petrol) but giving a significant up-front cost of acquisition benifit.
    Boot space loss is also similar in strong hybrid and CNG (great cng cylinder packaging by maruti).
    Also, we should factor in the high maintenance and repair costs of a more complex strong hybrid system, think about it and let us know your thoughts.
    Also, Fantastic work with your content & videos!!

    • @motorinc
      @motorinc  2 года назад +3

      Hullo! Thanks for the suggestion! We haven’t been able to experience the CNG version yet. However, we believe the two will cater to different mindsets. The CNG will be the more cost effective solution. But, like with EVs some compromise/adjustment will be required - 1) waiting times at pumps 2)access to pumps is not as widespread as petrol 3)lower performance.
      The strong hybrid in comparison 1) requires just petrol. No adjustment in usage required. 2)And is also available in the higher spec trims. 3)offers more power and 4) automatic transmission. Do you think that’s fair? Although why shouldn’t CNG be offered in top spec trim?

    • @RAJBHAVYA1
      @RAJBHAVYA1 2 года назад +1

      @@motorinc
      I strongly agree on the automatic point, thats a big one!
      Maruti should give CNG in top end variants as well.
      When it comes to performance, if user will push the strong hybrid the mileage will drop significantly(also mentioned in your test), in the city/sedate driving, i believe lower performance of cng will not be an issue.

To take an example, the segment where the boot is being shown, that part is a little too dark(possibly because of the open boot lid casting a shadow), so as a result, even if the boot was being shown, not much was visible.

    So well put, i was driving down the internet loops for a better alternative to EVs just yesterday, after knowing that EVs are consuming a lot of electricity which will also affect the environment eventually quite similarly to petrol and sometimes even more, and keeping the Indian circumstances in mind Teslas aren’t very convenient for us, so hybrids are definitely the most convenient way to go, (not done with the hydrogen knowledge yet so giving gyan on hybrids and evs only for today 😂), also, if synthetic fuel ever comes to reality, the synthetic fuel + electric might become a revolutionary invention, but most probably high performance and fun cars won’t be easily existent in the future.

    • @motorinc
      @motorinc  2 года назад

      High performance cars will surely be electric. We are willing to make compromises on the practicality front - and so the adjustment will be easier. Let us know which way you go!

  • @prashantsharma9779
    @prashantsharma9779 2 года назад +4

    I think we should not go completely electric. It's okay in the plains but over here in the Darjeeling hills, we need some grunt in the vehicles. There are slopes where you cannot drive/ride any higher than 2nd gear and even if EVs are able to climb such slopes, then the range would drop significantly (I mean a lot). Cars like Alto give a mileage of 10-12 here and bikes like Splendor give no more than 35-40 so EVs are a liability here for the time being. I think hybrids are the future here. Hope there are brands in the future which have ICE powered vehicles. 🤞

      Prashant! Hello from the coast! 🤣
      Agreed. But when we took the GV up some serious inclines, it managed with an ease, esp in all-electric mode, that made a lot of sense. Your assessment of the battery situation is spot-on though. But that is literally the big problem that everyone is working on in the e-World.

      @@motorinc Range definitely will be an issue even if the problem is sorted as the mileage of ICE vehicles undergo a significant drop. Also, we prefer manual transmission here and almost all vehicles barring scooters are manual here. That's something to think about as well. 😀

    • @saintofall3653
      @saintofall3653 2 года назад +2

      It is well worth considering that most EVs have so much more torque than ICE vehicles that it's not even comparable. Hill climbs would be far easier
      Hybrids are the logical next step for us. As for preference, people talked about preference when scooters were introduced and when CVT scooters were introduced and they kept talking about preference while making Activa the most sold vehicle in the country.
      Sooner or later, but always, convenience and value wins out over everything else.

    Is the breakeven true if we include the XUV4OO to the mix? The wheelbase, boot size and price in Pune are all comparable for GVSH and XUV4OO. The only issue I think with an EV is it doesn't work if I have a biker mentality. I want my bike to be able to go whenever I want to. I want to ride 1000km in a day if I want to and my *vehicle* should be able to do that. Any ICE car (hybrid or not) can do that but an EV will struggle.

    • @Anant.Bhatia.Antz_Bin
      @Anant.Bhatia.Antz_Bin 2 года назад +1

      I did a compare and the boot space of the GVSH is smaller than my recently discontinued Figo / XUV*3OO*. Its no comparison to any of the other sub 4 meter SUVs. What good will it be on the highway with no space to keep the stuff of the family? Thats unfortunately where the Hybrids keep failing.

      Just realized that the GVSH is making the XUV3OO Turbosport look better than it is.
      Same Wheelbase
      Almost same boot space
      More power
      Great GC on both
      XUV is wider

      Priced so low that you can buy a Tiago MR EV with the difference.

    • @motorinc
      @motorinc  2 года назад +1

      You’ve hit the nail on the head.. it’s that flexibility. An EV can be a great choice in households with 2 or 3 cars. Single car garages.. it becomes more challenging. And great analysis on the 300/400 vs GVSH. The big difference will be running costs.

    • @SirKart
      @SirKart 2 года назад +1

      Hey! Dividing the price difference by the savings in running cost show that the difference in terms of kms to be clocked is huge. If your running is high - then EVs make sense. But there are the other caveats. I am looking forward to driving the XUV 400. Especially because it’s the full size of the platform now. Not sub-4m.

    I've been thinking about getting a hybrid for quite some time now. The problem is that my requirements seem to get split almost evenly between the City Hybrid and the Grand Vitara. I prefer the City's sedan format, 5-star safety rating, 4-cylinder engine and the smoothness that comes with it. While the Grand Vitara boasts of a higher ground clearance, better suspension set-up for most of our roads and the fact that it's a Maruti. Boot space is compromised in both cases but I suspect the Maruti maybe can handle the luggage arrangement better. I couldn't feel any significant difference between the build quality of both these cars.
    Any suggestion/ insight regarding either of these as a daily driver would be helpful.

      The real reason to go for the GV over the City would be ground clearance/stance. If you prefer to drive - chassis/suspension is superb. The real reason to go for the City over the GV would be the better back seat. And if you prefer to be driven.
