Probably the best brake switch replacement video for 2010 F150's that's out there. Even showed the fusebox and fuse number. Thanks! Hopefully I don't have to replace the entire shift mechanism, since I forced the shifter out of park just to get it home. But your video shows the best action of the shifter solenoid pawl and shift gate mechanism.
Awesome! Exactly what the problem was....mechanic gave us a price of $900 and told us the whole center console needing switching. Your video sent me to the parts store and it cost me $35. Thanks again!
Thanks a ton for posting. I am way up in the mountains. My 2015 F150 would not shift out of park. I had removed my console shifter trim awhile back when I installed the electronic trailer brake module, so I was familiar with that. My 15 is a little different but now I can shift and drive and return to park. More importantly I can get back home and fix permanently. Again, thanks for posting you saved my a$$!
Unbelievable instructional. Great job. This helped me out of a major jam. Had people in my car and stuck. Started disassembling sh@t and looked like a real mechanic. (Which I’m not- just handy). Thank you Parker bros!!
Thank you so much! Very informative and detailed video! I had to switch out vehicles at my daughter's High School to troubleshoot this problem in her f-150. Your video was the first one to pop up and I was able to clean off the shifter part and replace the fuse under the hood now she is ready to roll!
Omg you are great! Thank you soooo much! I know nothing about the mechanics on a Ford. This not only saved me from spending alot of $ but it WORKED!!!! thank you again!!!
Thank you so much for this clear and concise video demonstrating everything needed to fix this issue. Had my truck diagnosed and fixed in less than an hour.
Bro, you totally saved me. I got it in but it wasn't working. I had to keep turning it counter clockwise until it lined up with the brackets the same way you have it in the video. Thank you so much!
Great info - I have a problem that only seems to happen in extreme cold (-25C) - shifter can move in and out of park - brake lights work - battery is good - dashboard lights up with no trouble and all indicators are good - but when I turn key I just hear a click in the interior (near the console?), but no crank. When it gets warmer - no trouble.
Worked like a champ!! Saved me a lot of time, money and heartache. Appreciate you man. I was able to take it off with my bare hand. Working man able to get in the bed and eventually back to work. Thanks again.
Holy crap dude. Where do I send the money? Was stuck somewhere I didn’t want to be had to leave quick jump down here found the answer. Thank you so much. Now to check the fuse in the switch. Where the hell would we be without RUclips?
Man ur awesome as hell dude. I was literally wrecking my brain and I don't need to wreck my brain no more. My thing was trying to locate the fuse man but you at least showed where the fuse was so yeah thank you so much.
Thank you. Thank you, Thank you. this happened to me in the middle of the Badlands in South Dakota. We bypassed the switch on the shifter and we are rolling home. you Rock.
There is an easy fix for the shift interlock that might work for you. It worked for me. Remove the console panel over the shifter mechanism. If you have an older F150 like I do, you will find a lot of dirt, grease, and crumbs under there. Vacuum out as much as you can. Find the interlock release button. Depending on the year, it could be on the right or the left of the shifter. With the truck running, engage the brake and see if the release button moves. If it doesn't, try this: Get a can of pressurized air like is used to clean computer keyboards. Put the red nozzle on the sprayer and start to spray. Get all around the interlock and even try to squirt air inside it. It might take a little while. Even a small piece of dirt can stop the release from working. If it works for you it can change a hassle into a five minute fix. At worst, you cleaned your console.
Why has nobody caught the fact that the blue "brake light switch" that he showed replacing is not the brake light switch. It is the cruise control deactivation switch. The BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH is to the right of it, and is mounted directly to the pedal lever, and brake booster rod. If you replace the switch he shows you won't fix a thing, as it does not effect the interlock circuit.
Thanks for the video! I already know how to replace it. Today exactly the same thing happened to me, I could not rule out Parking on my F150 2009 : - / I sprayed the brake switch on the contacts - it helped! And I buy a new switch. Thanks !
There is also a small rectangle on the right side of the bezel around the shifter. You can put your key in that slot and move the shifter out of park. No need to pull your console apart. Pretty much every car with a console mounted shift lever has some sort of bypass that uses the key
I just fixed this in my truck and tried to use that neutral release switch with no effect. May or May not be from something else. I'm glad there's an additional workaround
Did you have the column shifter or the console shifter ? Mine won’t move from park either but have the column shifter and most videos I find are for the console shifter
Check ground connection 3 wires ,under fuse box inside truck ,mine was rusted out so bad when I went to take bolt out whole wall came out leaving big hole , had to cut wires and reconnect with new ends and bolt . It is a pretty common problem. My truck wouldn't shift with ac on . Now no problems
2017 f 150 cruise control stopped working . I changed the brake switch now it days hill start assist not available. And won't more out of park position?
Replaced the brake light switch and it comes out of park but the brake lights will not come on unless you push the brake pedal to the floor. do you have to have the ECU codes reset ?
Great video. I fix this part with no problems. But now I need to replace the blue piece just above it. My key now wants to stick in the ignition. There is a small button on the bottom that the shifter pushes up in park that allows the key to complete the turn and be released. I need to know the name of that part. Please.
I am having the same issue now with a 2011 F150, but I have the XLT model with the shifter on the steering wheel. Any video fixes for that model would be greatly appreciated.
MetroStars Auto Group - Sorry I don’t have access to that truck to make the vid. You might have to dig in for the bypass or just go ahead and swap the foot switch. The intention of this video is just to get you back home and not for continuous operation. Thanks for the comment.
It's been a year so I spose this is a waste. If you get this email me, crobbATyahoo.com there is a hidden button on the bottom side of my column. Stick a pen in there and it releases it. Mine is an 08 xlt extended 4 door. I had a hell of a time getting it apart but cut off some un-needed plastic and it went right back together.
Why not just put key to accessory position? This should let you shift to neutral. Then start engine and shift to drive. This has worked on every Ford that I have had this problem with
@@Libdiddy No but I changed both of the switches. Now to get it to move I rattle my foot on the brake while gently pulling on the shift handle, works every time. @@charlierobbins6725 my ground wire was rusted out on inside of truck under fuse box , wouldn't let me come out of park with air running. Was a easy fix . I guess its a common problem
I have the same issue. I removed the console and found that when i step on the brake, the little pin does in fact retract like it should however the mechanism that drops downward when i try to take it out of park does not go down quite far enough. I found a broken piece of plastic laying in this area that has a little wheel on it? What would this be? i am sure it is the problem?
Similar issue in 2004 Ford Freestar Minivan.. Mine was intermittent.. obviously brake related. If I started the Engine in Park, it would never come out of Park. Solution: Move the Trans to Neutral, then Start the Engine. 1. To make it work: a. Insert Key, klick Once to the Right. b. Move transmission to NEUTRAL. Apply Foot Brake c. Turn the Key to Start, Move to Drive. 2. In My Case, Fix it. (Your Mileage may vary) a. Bleed ALL 4 Brakes: Apparently there is both a Brake Sensor, and Brake Pedal Excursion Sensor.. If when pressed, the Brake Pedal go in too far, you cannot get out of Part. With the Engine Running and Power Brakes operational, any push on the brake trips the sensor.
UPDATE:: The make it work above is SOLID. Bleeding the Brakes helped, but did not solve the Intermittent problem. Replacing the Brake Switch DID!!. Always check your Brake Lights FIRST!! The Original switch is pretty Cheesey.. Looks like the push plunger mushroomed, and probably limited the Travel. You can snap the top off the original switch (Not the Replacement), and clean the contacts. Replacement switch was $24 from NAPA Auto Parts.. easy to swap. Find a Video showing how the Bushing gets re-inserted and the switch snapped on.

Do you have to unplug the battery before switching the blue switch
looking at the diagram it shows 46 as having the brake light on and off fuse, not 45. thats the Trailer tow stop turn relay feed.

Aaron's Outdoor not being a smart butt.....if your fuse checks out ok then it’s gonna be the switch.
@@tacocaza that’s correct

Similar for a column shifter ?
were your brake lights not working?
I think it’s fuse 46 a #15 fuse not the #20 fuse 45. 45 says it’s left and right tow turn relays. 46 is break pedal position (bpp) switch.
