My mistake was taking her to Walmart for a oil change just 3 months before the blown engine. That Contour gave me zero issues. 86 Mustang same, no issues. The transmission still runs like new. Original engine, starter, alternator, radiator, differentials, you name it. The big things that destroy tranmissions is not changing the fluid and pulling in overdrive. I didn't put much into the truck other than normal maintenance and wear items.

    Hi Scotty. I've got a 2012 F150. Not a previous Ford fan but at the time this F150 beat all others for drive and comfort. 197000 miles and runs great. Changed all fluids at 105000. At 120000 plugs and coils. Other than brakes tires and oil changes its been the most reliable I've ever owned minus front springs that broke on both sides.
    5.0 6 speed smooth and we travel NY to Florida 2 to 3 times a year. Tow at times up to 10000 lbs but rarely that much. Most towing is 3000 to 5500 and watch transmission temp religiously. As for daily driver it's truly comfortable and friends love the room inside.
    I've heard good and bad about transmission. My belief is take care of fluid filter change before issues. All other fluids change at or before recommendation and drive till it won't go anymore.
    By the way lifetime fluid refers to fluidslife not people so when you are told it's lifetime still change it sooner rather than later

    Just bought a mint 111,000 mile 2013 F150 5.0 4x4, 6-speed, single cab STX. Inside and out, it looks like it just came out of a dealer back in 2013. Even the stock exhaust still has the new silver/grey look. The engine bay is so clean, you can eat out of it. I was so impressed of how mint this truck is. I'm the third owner. All fluids have been regularly replaced and the previous owner replaced the main 3-piece coolant front y junction that was leaking. Just after I bought it, I noticed coolant began leaking down the back of the engine and onto the passenger manifold flange. Turns out it was the passenger side heater quick-connect o-ring that went bad and was leaking onto the valley between the head and the intake manifold, rolling to the back of the engine while driving. After driving my old 96' jeep 4.0 XJ for so many years, it feels like I'm driving a fancy large cadillac now. lol Very comfortable and has plenty of torque. Great pedal response for both the accelerator and the brake.

    Everyone always changes their engine oil, but how many neglect their other fluids? Then they wonder why they have problems when the mileage gets high. Change your transmission fluid and filter, and if you tow consider seeing if you can get a high capacity sump pan. I know theres a high capacity kit for that 6spd ford that offers almost double the capacity. Heat is great factor in automatic transmission life and itll kill em as much as never changing your fluid. Change your coolant, diff fluids and brake fluid as well at their recommended intervals, or more frequently if you tow alot. The small cost and inconvenience now will save you big in the future.

  • @suggesttwo
    @suggesttwo Год назад +1

    Drop the pan put a new filter retoque valve body bolts. If the first 2-6 bolts in the toque sequence are loose you have probably fixed it. All makes. Engine vibration likes to unscrew hardware. The first bolt in the torque sequence is compressing all of the gasket by itself. The last bolt has help from all the other (un)fasteners.

    My 1996 F250 4x4. 195000 Original miles. 5.8L FI V8 4x4 4.10 gears trailer puller. Plain old 3 speed automatic with overdrive. Still shifts good. Just normal maintenance things over the years. Transmission has been serviced a couple of times. Always used Motor Craft synthetic blend oil. Engine runs fine but probably not as strong as it used to be, but what do you expect at 195000 miles?

    I got my 2004 (4.5L, 3-V) about 7 years ago with 99K miles. Today it has 150K. Zero major repairs. Got it from Tenn., underside still looks new, here in NY it would be a rust-bucket. I did buy the updated OEM phaser set, have yet to install it.

    Ive got 183K miles in my 2012 F150 Raptor. Engine and transmission still flawless, transmission actually shifts great. Lol
    If well maintained you should see 250K at least out of the trans and 350k at least out of the engine. F150s are great trucks. 👍🏼

      Agreed, IF you maintain them and don't beat the screaming snot out of them. Of course, this applies to all other vehicles from all other manufacturers. You see the whiners and the trolls out on these RUclips videos BSing that their vehicle blew apart at 60k. Of course, half of them never followed the factory recommended maintenance schedule and beat their vehicles senseless, and the other half never owned the vehicle they claimed failed them to begin with!

      I have a 11 6.2L Platinum (same as raptor). I just changed the fluid at 189K, second time done. Runs perfect. The valve body switch can break though, not a bad repair. The rest of the trans is very solid. Sounds like it is time for spark plugs for you!

    Hell, I bought a 2011 Dodge Nitro brand new. Drove it home, approximately 20 miles, and the transmission was leaking. Had it in the shop 5 times and they never could fix it. Definitely a faulty casting on the transmission at the manufacturer. Traded it in for a 2012 Toyota Tacoma and still own it with not even 80k miles on it.

    There are many f150 of that Era that have way more than 150,000 miles and still have the original transmission and its working just fine. That's not correct that the transmission is the weakest part of the f150.

    The 6r80 trans is pretty strong it’s honestly one of fords better auto trans they’ve put out in terms of durability. Just DON’T wait 150k miles to service them like the ford maintenance schedule says. Every 30-40k miles doing a simple drain, fill and filter replacement and they should last a long time

    Ford F-150s are really good trucks in my opinion. People talk down on them all the time like they're the worst vehicle out there, but they're really not. I bought a 2014 Ford F-150 XTR with a 3.5 liter v6 motor last year and it's been a damg good truck for me so far. I've owned both an older ram truck and a 2002 Chevy Suburban prior to getting my Ford and tjose 2 trucks gave problems.
