think we all can see my struggles putting .. well i left it to long to go get a lesson ...... in this video you can see my big fault where i had my toe up on my putts
go get a putting lesson golfmates off your local pro
I think I should have got one after that birdie putt in the golf day on the 6th at Chorlton 🤦♂️
I switched to a putter that was a little toe weighted. Best decision ever!!
You're tall Liam, built for snooker, give it a try 😆
Get fitted for a putter!
I'm sure someone has commented before and you're aware, but i'll mention it anyway; you do your practice swings and then just push the club head forward 4-6 inches to hit the ball without adjusting your stance distance to the ball. That alone would cause your club to lie toe up. You do this with all of your clubs. The driver for example you push forward what looks like 6-8 inches. I can't help but think that changes all sorts of angles and club head contact. Anyway, fun channel.
Liam, thank you for bringing these lessons to us. There were several things he mentioned that I'm going to focus on next time I practice. Especially keeping my putter flat on the ground. I may be already doing that but I don't know and that in itself could be a problem.
Finally after 20 min he discusses dominant eye. May I suggest using both hands (sametime) to find your dominant eye. Using one hand, you may cheat to one or side another. With both eyes open, find your target first then lift your hands and see your target with your dominant eye. 17:02 17:09 When he changed your putter lie with your grip he actually put your eye over the ball. He likes the ball forward cuz he's left eye dominant. I would hazard to guess you're short cuz you are farsighted and your Rx sees things closer than they are. (Magnified)
If there is one thing that is under explored in putting, it is the role of the dominant eye, Liam you have a window here to really go into it, anyone who sits behind the ball looking at the break, sees it one side, then stands over the ball and sees something different, this because of your dominant eye.
Liam I love your transparency. Very humble and much respect to you mate! World class mannerism Liam.
Love GW. Followed his career for many years. Good to see him on the channel.
good discussion and info. i recently have been working on getting my eyes over the ball and was surprised how close the ball is to my toe line but i use white dot ping irons which are 3 degrees upright so i guess that makes sense for me.
Remember when EBay Pete had a putting lesson..it went in one ear and out the other..don’t let that happen to you Liam. Pay attention…..👍🏼👍🏼
Groundhog Day. They’ve all had several lessons over the years and none of them have improved EBay being prime example
Yes I do they even adjusted his putter for him so it fitted better and a couple of weeks later he stopped using it and got a new one from eBay 😂
I am sure this lesson will help you immensley, Liam. I will watch it many times and, hopefully, improve my own putting. Thank you Gary for the "Free", lesson. It's invaluable to me as a keen, but impoverished , club golfer. The number of lessons you show has helped me over the last twelve months to start to improve my game.
These Tip/Lesson videos are spot on...Keep them coming...Have a Great Weekend.... Cheers Mate
Really enjoyed this video. One item mentioned that I do disagree with is using the line on the ball for alignment to the hole. As a right eye dominant player, the line standing over the ball is not the same as the line standing behind the ball. For me, using the line created a slight pull on every putt.
Been using some of this, thanks!
This helped me greatly, change distance, control, speed and accuracy Thank you. more of this type content
Brilliant lesson. Thank you Liam!
Top tips from Gary MBE. A bloke commented on my single puts last weekend. It’s the only think that keeps my handicap down. Also the best thing you can practice.
My top tip is, if it’s going past the hole, watch it and get the one coming back. 😁👍
My Pro got to hit 9 putts on a wicked green to see what I did; I hit them in 3 different ways. So we worked on a process like Gary suggested on every putt, and my strike and distance control has dramatically improved. So it's process, process and process. Also had the putter fitted for lie and loft, so when I changed the putter after 23 years to a modern one, a simple adjustment to the same spec and away I went. Excellent video and tips as ever from GM :)
That was the best putting lesson that I've seen, great video Liam and thanks for sharing.
Great tips, easy to bring on the course. More of similar tips Liam. Well done.
Great video on putting,I’ll be practicing the technique thanks to Garry and you Liam.
Liam i know you have never used one because your a better golfer than me but just to agree with a point made on the video i struggled bad just off the green couldn't chip to save my life so as i only play for fun i bought a chipper and for it to work it has to be flat not toe up that made me use my putter the same way and my putting really improved i still miss with bad reads but I'm getting the ball passed the hole instead of falling short and never having a chance of going in
Every Golf mate should get their putter's fitted! I use a putter that I purchased when I was16 years old! My golf pro told me that my putter was too short for me, and he extended the shaft to fit my height, as I was 6'6" and since my putter is a brass blade.putter, he made out a little more upright for me. It's why I have used a blade putter for so long...I still have all the measurements in my notebook. When I had my knee surgeries, the one thing I could do during my rehab was putting!
Absolutely great video Liam. I’m a fairly new golfer and my putting has been a big let down to what could have been a decent score.
I have never set up with the ball forward of centre and never had my lead wrist in front of the ball.
After playing yesterday, I tried both and my putting improved by 70% still not perfect but much more accurate and good pace. Not so many 3 puts! It can only get better!
This is golden. Thanks guys.
Cracking video Liam, just what I need
Excellent video, great tips thanks Liam
Interesting, I have always had a summer and winter putter , Gary talks a lot of sense, putting is mostly the difference between a good round and a poor round for me . Also I’ve developed a forward press as my trigger . My LAB 2.1 is for abroad and summer here and my Ping Anser for winter .
A putt is the only shot some golfers are afraid to hit. I had the yips for over a year until I got a system.
Great video, full of tips.
Simple when you know how, brilliant lesson 👍👍
Fabulous tips. Putting is everything. If I'm running late to a match I'd rather putt for 5 min than hit balls for 5 minutes to feel the speed of the greens.
Nice one both. Putting is the best way to improve your scores. Wonder what Gary’s thoughts on the Lab putter are.
Could listen to Gary for a long time. All that experience and knowledge.
There’s an amazing video of him getting fitted by precision golf on RUclips. Well worth a watch mate.
Brilliant lesson we can all learn something from..... cheers.
Hilarious video watching poor Gary get more frustrated as it took 20 minutes for either of you to hole one 😂
Amazing & interesting lesson ... thank-you
Great info. Thanks
As a person who has only played golf on a course about 20 times : Are people any better putters nowadays than they were 40 years ago ? From the video clips I've seen , it appears not ?
You have yourself answered the question.
Some great tips, you watch finchy putt he goes through the same process everytime and talks through it for the channel as well, yet can switch on the focus at the right time, top stuff. Impressive to watch don't how he does it, or indeed the majestic scoopie woopie. You Liam have a challenge now of finding a putting process, engraine it, switch on the focus at the right time, while you're chatting through the putt for the channel. All the best keep up the good work.
Thanks for that video very helpful for a 3 putter like myself lol 😂 just need to put that into practice 👍🇦🇺
Great video, thanks lads
If there is one thing that is under explored in putting, it is the role of the dominant eye, Liam it must beght make a good video on its own, anyone who sits behind the ball looking at the break and sees it coming from one side, then when they stand over the ball they see something different, this because of your dominant eye. Understanding this can mean you have to move the ball position in your stance. It is one of the reasons that putters are placed at different angles at the bottom of the shaft.

I just learned I have the wrong putter, and I've been wondering that for a while. Great video, time for a fitting!
Went left hand low three weekends ago, best thing Ive done in years.
Hold a golf ball in your strongest eye and drop it. Where it lands is where your eyes are and whether your eye is "over" the ball... Neither of you guys were "over" the ball. 🤣👍🤘⛳️
HUUUUGE fan of Gary Wolstenholme... great to see you!🎉❤
Putting gems all I need to know about putting .. now I know why I need putter with loft ..
Good lesson that watching that video had some good points for people
Great tips
Liam/Gary excellent putting tips
It's curious you're doing a putting lesson cos I am currently looking at putters. For sure I will do a putting fitting cos I really want to know if I'm using the right putter for my type of stroke I have a blade toe hang. But I do feel that I would do better with a face balanced putter... Thanks for the tips.
That was fantastic I am a rubbish putter going to try to get better
Great putting leason liam , learned alot watching this ,
Hi great video. How can I find out what model Evenroll putter he has?
Liam this video is a joke!
I put into practice what Gary said Saturday and shot 4 over 39 points 👍🏻
Today I tried it again and shot 71 level gross
Single putted at least 8 greens ❤️
Wow!! So simple
Absolutely brilliant
Focusing on the mark at the front of the ball - takes all the other thoughts away - makes you put a really good forward stroke on it 👍🏻
Excellent video
great stuff there cheers
That was a full lesson, loved it 😎👍👍
First off
What a nice bloke Gary is
How good was that?
Can Liam take it to the golf course?
Great video Liam some great tips in the video 👍
There was
Can't wait to put this into practice on Tuesday
Liked the video Liam and Gary
Brilliant 👍👍
Great lesson Liam, putting should be the easiest part of the game but it can make a fool of you if you let it get into the mind, if you stick to these nuggets your handicap will drop considerably 👍
The best putting tip I ever got was to keep looking down until you hear the ball go in the hole. It’s amazing how many putts you make by doing that.
But after five minutes the group behind get a bit fed up 😅
Pick a spot no more than a couple of feet in front of you on you’re line and aim at that…stop looking at the hole or a spot 20 feet away. Learned that from a Jack Nicklaus video a long time ago and it works…
I went to 2 of the major golf shops in Dublin today and enquired about buying a new putter, buti want to get it fitted and they both said you don't need it,just keep your eyes above the ball,I didn't buy anything, they just want you in and out.
Great video
Great lesson from a ledgend 😊
That putting coach reminded me of that film the phantom golfer when he was on GMTV and kept on missing his putts and making excuses 😂😂 but great content on what makes a great putter 👍
Some expert! Missed them all.
I’ve taken so many tips from this! 🙏
“It’s probably been banged and all sorts” - “yes, well we won’t go in to that” 😂
Great lesson an vlog.
Liam I have a C Groove putter (mint) if ever you want to try one just let me know. My golf buddy's son lives near Manchester and is looking to join Chorlton. I could get it t you via him.
Stay safe and thanks
I have never struggled when it comes to putting by that I mean I rarely 3 putt unless I am a large undulating green that has more breaks than a council worker.
For me it’s just a feel.
Sure I would like more birdies but I fear any attempt at change could have a negative effect 🤔
I should ad I am playing with a 50yr old putter that I never felt the need to change.
Top video
Enjoyed that video. A nice excuse to buy a new putter and get fitted 😂
👍 Great information well done. Hopefully you will follow up with a putter fitting and pass on your feedback of its pros and cons for yourself.
Open up your stance and keep your hands ahead of the putter head. you will see the line better and get a better roll on the ball.
Matt uses a Bettinardi...but it has C Groove technology 😉
Nice lesson there Gary
Next Friday- that lesson video Kent.
@@GolfMates Gotcha Liam, thank you 👍
Matt asked Bettinardi to copy his old Yes it took them several attempts to succeed in coming up with an exact copy
@@richardlupton3676 Exactly Richard! But, as always, Bob and Sam came up trumps 👍👍👍
Every time I see Liam standing like that, I think of Planters Mr. Peanut.
A couple of weeks ago, I played with a scratch golfer and putted poorly. After the round he asked if I minded him telling me something. Obviously I was all ears , he said the toe of my putter was up , causing inconsistent strikes.
Also very few toe up putters are good putters . Fact .
Your first couple of putts i noticed you stand too far away from the ball, and your eye is not over the ball.
What a lot of sense I made of that, thank you.
When the teacher is as good as me with all the spiel 😬
Two putters, I’ll putt with me 3wood in the winter then😂
The game is so much nicer when you can putt well....
❤
Try a bit of dirty talk always helps when your stroking 😂😂😂 keep safe and well golfmates
Always try and get it to the hole GolfMate
This is funny ! not sure why ?
Putting is crazy - years ago had a crazy stance hunched over club like Jack Nicklaus - cheap putter ,used to line it up direct at hole -no real Green read and hit it straight towards hole like Brandt Snedeker with a kinda bump - was a kinda decent putter !
😅
Then looked at loads of RUclips lessons got a Mallet putter correct size etc etc .
Result Am now CRAP !
I think practice is likely your biggest issue. Sure, you can always learn a better technique, but think about how many hours you do or don't practice? What if you had just 15 mins a day? You'd see huge improvements.
If I could putt I'd knock at least 15 shots of my card😢
Pears of wisdom
Personally loose at least 7 or 8 shots around from my putting 😂
Putting and short game, is where we gain or lose the most shots, common sense should tell us to improve those two areas. but these two areas are the most neglected by the majority of amateurs.
Have to admit I found this confusing, but then again I am an idiot. The bits where he was explaining to YOU about aim, blue tack on the putter, and mising the coin seemed to be directed specifically towards You, but we as the viewers did not see what it was he was talking about..... I do feel he is a good one on one instructor, but from the viewers point of view was slightly confusing as we could not see what you could see.... As I said, i am an idiot , so maybe it was just me. Still I llked this vid, and realise how difficult it is for you to show things from your point of view.
Man you were aiming right on a left to right putt and then you actually pull the ball to get it back on line. Are you really that blind man come on….
Not surprised you putter isn’t quite right, you spend most of the time leaning on it.
Liam I think you worry too much about the consequences of going long you worry about McKenzie's, drop offs, edge of green ect, anything really. So just play a round where your target is NOT coming up short, see what happens,,,,
You used to be a great putter that's why I got a daddy long legs putter to help me be as good as you 👍🏻
Can’t take anyone seriously who putts with a glove!
Wow that took too long to hole a putt. What you say makes sense, but what you do doesn’t inspire confidence
