What Nobody Tells You About How To Hit Driver Straight

- Golfers struggle to hit driver straight because they are unaware of 3 small adjustments they need to make in the golf swing. In this golf video Danny Maude gets straight to the point and explains exactly what you need to do to hit driver straight.
At the start of the golf lesson Danny explains why a traditional style golf set-up actually prevents you from hitting the golf ball straight.
He then gives you a process to follow that will immediately start to straighten up any ball flight. Obviously on a golf course you don't want to be changing too much at once so the 3 golf tips are given in order of importance.
Golf Tip 1 takes the curve away while Golf Tip's 2 and 3 focus on making sure the golf ball set's off online so you hit the centre of the fairway.
Nobody seems to get told this and as a result spend years struggling to hit driver straight. I hope this helps you in your quest to be a better driver of a golf ball,

ABOUT DANNY
-----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On RUclips and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

This golf lesson provides a couple of wonderful drills to help you hit your driver straight. If you are a beginner golfer and are looking for some golf driver tips that are simple and easy to do then you are going to love this.
I will show you the golf swing slow motion so that you can see what you need to do to improve.
We look at 3 things:
1. How to stop slicing your driver
2. How to swing more in to out or how to swing more inside out
3, How to get the correct impact position with driver
and I hope to do all this with simple golf tips so you can create an effortless golf swing
Best golf coach I have ever encountered in person or online.
Super kind thank you
Danny, I just broke 90 for the first time last week (87 actually!), and so much of that was due to understanding “the circle” from your videos. I was able to hit 12/14 fairways, and keeping the ball in play has been game-changing for me.
Thanks for being my favorite golf coach, and please keep those videos coming!
Brilliant Joe well done 😁🙌⛳️
@@DanielMaude So I like the video and instruction but what about for the players that over draw the ball as our miss. I know everyone seems to speak on how to correct a slice .
Gonna have to watch this and analyze. My problem is keeping my drives in good spots. If the driver is off that day scoring low is tough.
@@DanielMaudecccccccc1
@@ariesnc6320learn to slice and then do something in the middle, simple! A steep downswing slices, and an OVER rounded swing causes a draw. FIND THE spot in the middle, that will be your ideal swing path (assuming legs and hands are all good)
This lesson just single handledly led to the best driving range session of my life. I just flushed every iron, woods and driver in my bag. I didn’t realize I had such a bad alignment problem. Thank you for this lesson.
@@geoffgreenhill16 amazing to hear Geoff
This is why you have over 900,000 followers. You stick to teaching and in a clear, succinct and intelligible way. I’m also trying to find ways of hitting the club face where I should, not low and near heel! That hairspray/foot spray on the face can be most telling! Thanks as always, Danny. You’re the tops.
Thank you A ⛳️
Best explained video in the history of golf
Thank you Chucky 😁
Danny I’ve found this out on my own. You are the only person that I’ve seen go against the grain on the teaching. I stopped watching videos on RUclips and changed irons to king cobra transition s. 16 year old clubs and I went from a 25+ handicap I’m down to a 3.7. You started me on my golf journey 3 years ago so stumbling across this and consistently breaking par with my worst 18 in 6 weeks being a 78 I wanted to show my respect
That’s amazing! Well done and thanks so much for taking the time to share
Tried immediately at the range after watching this video and explanation.. it works like magic.. thanks danny. Keep it coming.
Wonderful to hear
60 yr. old, never a regular and thus consistent golfer, always miss-hitting the ball regardless of club. Took these driver tips to the course & I've never hit the ball this far, this consistently & in the straight or bend that I wanted. I was shocked and amazed, as were my playing partners. So simple & I hope I can keep this trend going this season. Can't wait to catch the irons video. Thanks Danny!
Brilliant Ken! Well done 👍
I gotta try these tips.. Thanks Danny 👍🏼
The best instructor that I've found from youtube ever!! The explanation about the correlation between swing arc and ball direction is the absolute classic physics. Everybody needs to understand this theory to fix their swings. Thank you so much.
good stuff. i just did this yesterday at the range. I now have a two teebox driver flights. my standard fade flight and now a straighter and occasional draw flight.
keep up the good work
Super kind thank you
Definitely the best lessons available. Very clearly explained. I’m captain of Enniscrone Golf Links this year, Shane Lowry’s best course off the beaten track. Danny if you’re in Ireland make sure you come this way.

never believed it could be so simple to improve my driving by closing the clubface from 12 0 clock to 11 o clock. This really works for me, and I'll try to incorporate your 2nd and 3rd tips in my golf swing next time out. I love your simple teaching tips, as I can make them work and instanly see the results. No wonder you have so many followers. Kindly carry on, Danny. Best wishes from Germany.
Appreciate the feedback Ulric
Danny, you’re such a great teacher! I watch several golf teachers on this platform and most have an idea they struggle to explain; they repeat and repeat and I want them to ‘get to the point!’. You’re the best I’ve found and we students out here can see immediate results! Thank you!
Thank you Craig 😁
Wow who would of thought lining up pointed to the right and club closed would make the ball go straighter but the way you explained it makes total sense can’t wait to try this out
Another awesome video lesson Danny. I've been following you for almost two years now and love everything you put out. Very easy to understand because of how you explain it. For anyone that is watching Danny for the first time, I encourage you to watch ALL of his videos. He alone has probably improved my game by 5-10 strokes per round just from his lessons
Very kind thank you KD 😁
My thought (at impact) is getting my watch facing down to the ground. Your explanation of the club path adjustment by changing the alignment of my feet is pure gold - thankyou!
Great idea Mike
Totally a revelation, "why didnt I think of that" moment and its so simple feels dumbstruck why I get those snap hooks! Thank you Danny, this is by far #1 for me. Keep up the awesome vibes!
Pleasure Tone, all the best
After watching, I don't know, a thousand other "fix your slice" videos over the years? This is the one that INSTANTLY fixed it. I mean, the first swing, dead straight, miles longer than my usual unintended fade. Almost too good to be true! Great work, Danny
RUclips has so many “fix your slice” videos but this one is the one to watch, the combination of clearly explaining why it is happening and how to easily fix it will work instantly - I know because it’s how I changed my setup and now hit almost every fairway. So many other videos miss out the mechanics of ball position. Top work as usual Danny.
Really kind Tom, appreciate that
The "geometry" principle is genius i can see it now. Swear to God i just got goosebumps in that UREKA moment. Danny the little tidbits of info is the best bar none - thank you is never enough!
Really happy to help
The slice with a Driver is something that I have suffered with my entire life. Watched lots of tutorials and lessons on this, but nothing has been demonstrated quite so well as this video here! Am putting these techniques into practice and am seeing amazing results! Amazing lesson and now a new subscriber! 👍🏼 keep them coming!
Welcome to the channel Jack
Danny is by far the best instructor on YT. The “ guv” of golf as I call him. Simply explained without losing you in detail. Excellent
Great video Danny that last ball was never going to slice. Def giving this a go. Congratulations on 900k soon be a million
Thank you John
Thank you for an EXCELLENT, VERY CLEAR & EASY TO UNDERSTAND ADVICE.
NO wonder Danny's viewers are increasing rapidly.
As they say in Yorkshire, England , '' NOT BAD FOR NOUGHT.''

Danny is available for personal coaching for any golfer who wants to improve rapidly.
I have benefitted from Danny's advice for many years & I am still playing golf to a reasonable
standard despite numerous health problems & being 79 years old.
GOOD LUCK TO DANNY. YOU DESERVE RECOGNITION & APPRECIATION.
Thank you Alan appreciate the support 😁
Great video Danny, I was working on this exact thing yesterday and tried bringing my right foot back a few inches and trying to swing more to the right and bingo, but you are 100% right about the release of the wrist which caught me out a bit initially. Keep up the great work!
That’s awesome Les
About a year ago I had all sorts of problems with my driver set up from ball positioning to tee Hight. I was playing with some pretty decent golfers one day, one in particular could see my frustration and deteriorating lack of confidence. What I didn't notice was that I was not lining up the ball with the inside of my heel. In other words I was not taking the time to set up properly. He pointed this out as a basic fundamental and after a few holes I wasn't placing my shots way left, a big improvement. Interestingly in you lesson you adjusted your stance which is what I did also and I can say that most of my drives are now finding the fairway more consistently. Thanks, Danny, for this weeks lesson. You continue to instill confidence and valuable tuition to my game. Have a great week!
Thank you Matt happy to hear your Drives improving and thank you for taking the time to comment 😁
I’m a student of John Jacobs. His theory on ball flight is great and really helps me understand the concepts more. You do an excellent job demonstrating them as well . I love your lessons keep them coming! ❤️
Oh, John Jacob. His name is my name, too!
Thank you Ellen 😁
best in the bizz, Danny - your way of explaining and showing your solutions are so understandable!

Danny is easily one of the top instructors on RUclips, if not THE best. I always love getting the notification when he’s posted something new. I end up watching the new one plus some others I’ve already seen as a mental drill ahead of going out to the range or to play a round. Thanks Danny!

Thank you so much for putting these videos online. I’ve always struggled with slicing the driver but as a consequence of following your instructional videos since the start of the year, I now have a very acceptable fade. Thank you.

Danny! Been "following" you for several years!!Best part of your instructions IS your enthusiasm/positivity/engaging smile in all of your videos. My ? for you is are you planning on doing a part 2 in your Senior Golf Series? Hope you are and if you are when is it coming? This has always been a question of mine when it comes to the ball being so forward in the stance and the arc swing… it creates slice metrics. Great vid! Thanks for all the help and tips!

I watched your video last night and tried it on the course today. It really worked for me. Not only were the drives straight but I was also getting more height and distance. I shot in the 70s for the first time in some while. Thank you Danny.

Thanks again Danny. Your lessons have taken me down from 24 to 15.3 in 12 months and I should be at least down to 12 this year. My swing error is that I spin out with my hip which drags my right shoulder wih it and then I get the over the top swing. Any chance of a lesson to prevent this please. If you have done it already then a link to it please.
👍 Andy, common fault this one
Me too...gofer from Az
I remember there was a hole that I just struggled with. OB right side compounded with cart path and a left to right slope of the fairway. I would get to the hole and aim left and still slice right. Round after round, I would aim further left and go further right. I realized that while my feet were aligned left the ball was further back in my stance - hence hitting it early with the face open. This is a great representation of that issue. Proper alignment is so critical for good shots. Great vid.
Slicing or hooking for years 🥵 this needs to stop.
Hope this helps Mark

This video is of simple thinking about it and makes total sense on how I'm hitting it. I've seen so manybdriver videos that has never helped. I will be trying this tonight

The physics of the arc of the golf swing, path of the club head & angle of the clubface brilliantly & simply explained! As a junior, one of the local pros explained this by drawing it out on a blackboard from an aerial viewpoint. That was a real 'light bulb' moment for me & something to refer back to visually.
I'd never thought that the arc shape of the rubber tray for the golf balls could be so useful!
Thank you again Danny for once again, simplifying this complicated game!
Thanks David happy to help 👍
Best driver explanation I’ve ever heard and seen. I’ve heard these components explained separately before but this visual wrapped them together in a lightbulb moment.

thanks Danny. its great how a simple explanation can help so much.

There is A LOT of good golf education and training available on RUclips... But Danny is the absolute BEST!! Fantastic explanations and drills to help develop each and every skill necessary to enjoy your best golf.
Thank you 😁
As someone who is a very BAD slicer of the golf ball, I've found closing off my front shoulder and stance a little bit has hugely encouraged my swing path towards a straighter swing. HOWEVER, if I have the ball to front on my stance it slices regardless; something you've helped me realize! This past weekend my typical 220-230 carry turned into about 260 carry just from hitting it straighter. Thank you Danny! Your tips truly are the best on here.
That’s amazing well
Done
Everything you say makes sense to me. I even started taking lessons and my instructor was pleasantly surprised at how far I had actually come by myself using youtube. I told him it was all thanks to you.
Now to my question. Isn't aiming to the right and closing the club face introducing more faults to my swing?
As a coach myself I heard often, you cannot teach feel, well you just Nailed That Lesson.
Thank You Danny.

the semi circle and balls teed up around it is a great visual that clarifies what is going on. Solid demonstration Danny.
Probably the best driver lesson I've ever seen. I related to the whole thing. Described me the whole time. Thank you.
Thanks Kage 😁
Thanks Danny. You ate helping to make golf an easier game to play. This video helps me greatly to understand the golf swing in hitting the Driver. This is one video that I will keep in my saved video files.
Just took up golf last year...and of course I have a wicked slice.
The courses aren't open yet (we still have snow), but I'm excited to try this out. It makes perfect sense, why hasn't anyone explained it so simply before.
Look forward to hearing how you get on Colin
The slicing explanation makes perfect sense. I recently realized that I have long been overestimating how forward the ball should be at set up. Perhaps my eyes playing tricks on me? In any case, once I started setting up with the ball a bit further back, my driving has been noticeably more consistent. This video is further validation! Thanks!
That’s great Daniel
I had to revisit this lesson after a terrible day of snap hooks off the tee. Can't wait to get back to the basics.
Love to hear how you get on
Danny I had been hitting a nice draw/straight driver for months, but recently I started hitting slices again and haven’t been able to figure out what I’m doing because I’m pretty sure (albeit I have no access to launch monitor numbers) I’ve been swinging from the inside with a relatively square face. Your visual at 1:18 just made it click in my head that I’ve been recently trying to hit it with the ball way too far forward in my stance. Amazing how the tiniest little thing can alter the shot shape so drastically! I’m excited to implement these teachings again at my next range session and hopefully see the same results you’re displaying here!
Your third tip explains why in his book Five Lessons by Ben Hogan how in one of the last pages he discusses ball position, and in the illustration he shows how with the driver he places his back foot a little bit back of the target line. He plays his ball just off his left foot with every shot, simply moving his right foot closer to the target line as the club gets shorter. Excellent tips, Danny, and I'll be saving this video in my Golf Videos folder for future reference.
Absolutely and he does the opposite with his irons
THANK YOU! This was a total game changer for me, instant results. Ball went straight every time, and some even had a tiny bit of draw at the end. I've never hit so many tee shots to the left before in my life, lol. Now I need to work on aiming better and my short game.
@TechniSean1 that’s great. Well done 👏. Thank you for watching 👍🏻

Best coach on you tube by far 👏👏👏👏👌
Appreciate that Kevin, lot's of great coaches out there
Spotted this drill the other day, practiced it a few times in my garden setup. Took it to the course today and I could not believe the result. My very expensive Ai driver, which had been languishing in the corner of shame in my man cave after spearing balls continuously to the right, came out to play (it was destined for replacement) and worked beautifully! I had until now been forced into taking my 5w off the tee, trading distance for accuracy, not today. This apparently weird looking setup worked straight out the box. It does take a measure of courage to align yourself directly at a lake or OB on the RH side of the hole, but fear not, the ball struck the centre of the club face, and drew majestically into the fairway time after time, and as a result, the rest of my game, for the most part, fell into line. Thanks again for this top tip, I’m now a DM convert.👏🏼
@VonTwinzip that’s amazing. Well done 👏 Keep it up. Keep me updated on how you are playing 🙏🏻
Good, I’m on track with 90% getting this right for my driver. The missing 10 was foot alignment to the right. Thanks 👍🏼

The alignment stick doesn't lie Danny but it takes courage to aim right when you slice. It works though, as you expertly demonstrated. Great as ever Danny.
One thing many of my students do is keep the alignment the same but stick to step 1. They are happy with just a fade
Very pragmatic lesson here. Such a great explanation. Thank you

the draw stance you're advocating is one i actually have to use when putting to get me to bring the putter through in a straight faced single line, the stance corrects a misalignment in my shoulders i must have in my natural set up.

Great to have you here each week Stuey
Thank you again , Danny. Your explanations of why things happen to the ball and how to correct them using swing pattern thing with balls placed around it was fantastic. The old saying " a picture is worth a thousand words" comes into play. Yes, the simple physics of club, ball position, and face angle is so revealing of what actually happens. I wish I had seen this a long tiime ago. I can't wait to get back out on the range and the course.
You're just simply the king of instructors.
God bless and stay in good health.
Danny, I am blown away. I chronically fade my driver. I get lucky and get straight shots sometimes but, never when it really seems to matter. I watched this, went straight to the driving range and I was consistently getting straight if not relatively or at least straight enough hits. I hit some draws, but almost no slices or fades. Still gonna take a little adjusting, but this is gonna be my new stance and swing. The first video I’ve watched where something actually worked when in comes to the slice or fade.
Thanks Jackson glad it helped you 😁⛳️
Thanks!
No problem William 😁
Thank you coach.... that was very impormative. My driver shot was as you described. I tried to compensate it by aiming to the LEFT of the target instead of what you said to the right. I tried closing the club face at set up but I aim it straight. As you know, those things made it worst. So I quit playing. I am glad that I came across your video, now I am ready to give it a try... thank you
I tried this at First Tee in Colorado Springs this afternoon. Down the middle. Thank you, sir. Now if I can just get my distance up from 210 yards carry. I’m working on weekly swing speed training.
