    Good exercises for me. The slow ascent and all the time spent in upper register gives me time to carefully note both how I'm making the pitch, any tension and even some vowel modification. One can sort of squeeze out or punch the isolated, dramatic high note in a song but in these exercises any increasing tension in the throat or deterioration of tone clearly show where my technique needs attention. Sort of feel this does for the upper register what so many of your videos do for the passaggio -teach awareness and control. Very much enjoy your videos.

    Great ballz'a fire! I am so, _so_ rusty after a year of no opportunities to perform even on an amateur level, and I have close to a month to get fighting fit for a convention's karaoke night.

      How did it go at the convention? Genuinely curious how long it took you to get back into vocal shape. I've been struggling to get back to that point myself. :)

      @@LostInThought2013 Surprisingly well! I was able to do THREE very demanding songs--Elton John's "I'm Still Standing;" Slade's "Merry Xmas Everybody;" and Queen's "Show Must Go On," at full pelt, with no ill effects.

    Hey jeff do you have any videos specifically for losing the weight in the voice such as pulling chest?

    • @JeffRolka
      @JeffRolka  3 года назад +1

      In a way, they are all about that, as the videos promote balanced phonation. That being said:

    • @JeffRolka

    are we supposed to sing the exercise at 3:10 legato and slide between the notes? i find it so fast the second time through that i'm singing all slide notes and it's hard to hit the specific pitches while keeping up with the piano

    • @JeffRolka
      @JeffRolka  2 года назад +1

      It's meant to be legato; that should be the focus. It may take a little while for the notes to have their full definition, but it's better to go more quickly for this practice. You can always listen to my example to get an idea of how the exercise is intended, and you can also always use the gear icon in the lower right hand corner of the video to slow it down, but I would only suggest that as a temporary measure.
      Best,
      Jeff

    Hey Jeff, Im guessing it's ok to use falsetto if we are struggling with some of the higher notes?

    • @JeffRolka
      @JeffRolka  2 года назад +1

      Better to make a smooth transition to voce piena in testa. That being said, it depends on how you're using the word 'falsetto' because definitions vary from school to school.
      Best!

    I want to thank you for your videos. They helped me improve. I'm a tenor. My voice is getting stronger. But I have a problem. I can practice on notes that are a little higher but can't sing in them. What do I do? Also I'm obsessed with high notes I feel I can reach them but can't do that
    can you explain that to me pls

    • @JeffRolka
      @JeffRolka  3 года назад +3

      It's quite common to be able to vocalize to a wider range than you can immediately implement in a song. The key is to turn the melodies of your songs into vocalizations in order to bridge the gap. I'll do a video on it!
      Great question! Thank you! Thank you for watching too!
