Wake up with watches and Tim Mosso; Wednesday morning is the new Friday afternoon for luxury watch buyers, watch collectors, and watch enthusiasts! Four Rolex watches and an impressive array of independent watch brands lead the way this morning, two complications from A Lange & Sohne, and an Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch completes the collection.
The Rolex Daytona stands coequal with the Patek Philippe Nautilus as the hottest luxury watch of our moment. That said, today’s yellow gold Daytona and its sunburst green dial represent a huge departure from the usual steel-ceramic Cosmograph sought by mainstream buyers. Two Rolex Explorer 2 models from different eras give Tim a chance to chart the changes in this core model over its last two generations. Finally, an unconventional Rolex Cellini Prince in Everosegold proves that finding hidden value in modern Rolex watches is just a matter of looking beyond steel sports watches.
Pilots watches fly high on today’s episode. The Omega Speedmaster “TinTin,” a Moonwatch inspired by the Belgian “Tintin” comics, is a rare modern Speedmaster Professional thanks to a short production run and a contentious relationship with the owners of the Tintin copyrights (this model never was “officially” approved as a co-branded product). The 600-piece 2017 Patek Philippe Calatrava Pilot New York limited edition is a rarity even by Patek Philippe standards; the no-date dial with center seconds is one of the few modern Patek watches thusly equipped. The Patek’s 42mm stainless steel is unusual both for its size - rare for a Patek Philippe Calatrava - and its use of steel rather than precious metal.
Independent watch brands have found favor among collectors thanks to unique creative visions, clever style statements, and lower production than mainstream watch brands. Francois-Paul Journe and his eponymous “Montres Journe” have crafted many of the defining luxury watches of our era, and today’s program features two. The F.P. Journe Repetition Souveraine is a stainless steel minute repeater of remarkably compact dimensions with a clear and powerful chiming caliber. F.P. Journe’s Vagabondge III is a world premier thanks to its first-ever constant jumping seconds display.
Maitres du Temps lacks the visibility of Montres Journe, but the Maitres du Temps Chapter 3 is a landmark watch in its own right. Created through an alliance of Kari Voutilainen and Andreas Strehler, the Chapter 3 in today’s episode has been customized with a hand-painted miniature Andy Warhol “Currency” tribute by master micro painter Andre Martinez.
Additional showcases of independent watchmaking include the H. Moser & Cie Endeavour Perpetual, which cloaks its perpetual calendar system under a deceptively simple dial. Laurent Ferrier’s Galet Montre Ecole Annual Calendar proves that you don’t need to buy a precious metal watch to enjoy the finest standards of Geneva watch finish; its fool proof annual calendar system proves that watch collectors need not tolerate cantankerous setting systems for complicated calendar watches.

A quick note: I've added the Panerai Luminor giveaway watch contest link here and in the description: swee.ps/jnIAqkWJP
Best,
Tim
I have been sharing it whenever I see it on social media , and sometimes adding the countries who can enter. As so many people don't take the time to find out they can actually enter, like those in Hong Kong, Europe, etc.
Tim is in the enviably position of a salesman and presenter who fully appreciates his products and they sell themselves on merit
How does this channel only have 71k subscribers?? I know its a giant advert for the stock but Tim's knowledge its still super interesting!
On a broader note, in my opinion, this morning watch show is the best watch programme, bar none, on RUclips (or anywhere else for that matter), given the great diversity of watches covered and the skilled and entertaining coverage itself by young Tim.
First time I’ve heard preternaturally applied to a watch, bravo Tim :)
There is just nothing like this channel. One masterpiece after another , each one worthy of its own documentary. Spectacular job Tim. I Appreciate greatly the opportunity to see these outstanding timepieces so carefully presented and narrated. Remarkably done. ☺ .
That Cellini Prince really calls for a video and not still images. The way the light dances on the dial just makes the watch.
Love the LF black, 1st edition. Top 2 LFs for me. Other is British Racing Green
Awesome video Tim! Man you are the most knowledgeable guy about watches I have ever seen. I really enjoy all your videos bro. Thanks.
Can't wait to see what else they can do once the Octo line gets played out. They have the potential to be a great brand.
Great show as always Tim. Lovely array of pieces. 👍
28:16 Tim you've enlightened me even more than usual today! I wear a Steinhart Ocean One 42mm Ceramic. It has been my "gateway drug" and now I'm through the gate and watching your videos every day. Obviously I'd love a Sub or Sea Dweller, but that's too big a jump. I had been looking at some models from Omega and Tudor, and not feeling like I absolutely HAD to buy any one in particular for the relatively high price compared to my modest homage piece. But once I saw that Aquis and started looking at the range of colors and sizes in the line, I think it's a real contender to be my next watch, and at a little under half the price of a pre-owned Planet Ocean, for a NEW Aquis Date 43.5mm, that next watch can come much sooner. I get that the P.O. is mechanically superior and of higher build quality, but so far the Oris is the watch that has excited me the most in the $1000 to $4000 range. It just so happens to be on the low end of it.
I love being able to watch a brand emerge like Bulgari is right in front of your eyes. And it's not just hype, they have the chops to back it up, both in manufacture and design.
The moon watch that the Crystal pop off and was replaced with a Bulova lunar moon.
Very interesting mix of watches styles and complications from high end brands. BP is so simple an under the radar to general public. Would have to fine a bracelet and rubber strap to complete the accessories for that bathasc. Thanks sir for great watch lesson by the best. Safe cycling.
Another interesting and diverse selection Tim. My favorites include the Moser (without “up” and “down”), the LF, and the Lange 1 Tourbillon. I find your review shows a great way to ease into the day or wind down at the end of it (notwithstanding their commercial purpose). But your insightful Monday night shows are next level. Look forward to the next one (may I suggest a segment on your GPHG picks, assuming your Q&P article has been published).
Tim's tabletop of terrific timepieces !
Bulgari is a great watch, Moser so elegant. Patek NY limited excellent, just wish movement was bigger. Lange always lovely. Ferrier; that movement! Journe MR at the end. Boom! Great show...
More fun to come; the Sunday show is shaping up, and I'm planning to feature a Greubel Forsey among other notables.
Best,
Tim
That Journe is very, very nice indeed!
I like everything about Bulgaria except the offset seconds. If it had a classic seconds hand it would be perfect.
Great show as usual! Thank you Tim.
The Octo Finissimo has now become Bulgari’s Royal Oak, a lovely innovative watch line. The sunburst green dial on the Daytona is stunning! I’d never seen this variation of the Daytona before, one of my favorite Rolex’s now.
The F.P.Journe comes quite close to, if not quite bettering the Zeitwerk. Probably a bit of an optical illusion, but it’s crown looks twisted! The Moser is fascinating, with a full balance bridge too, not common in a dress watch.
That Patek Pilot has such a clean dial and style to it, very un-Patek like, really like it! Lange...sublime as usual. I prefer the back of the LF Annual to the front, but it’s growing on me. This Oris is the nicest ‘affordable’ diver out there.
The older, smaller Explorer II is much nicer than the larger newer one IMO which just looks flabby, prefer a Polar dial though. I didn’t like the Bathyscaphe when I first saw one, not anymore though, it’s grown on me big time! The Nautilus is now 70 grand! Ridiculous indeed.
😆 really like those 70s Omegas! The Journe minute repeater is exquisite too. F.P.Journe has grown in my top brands ranking of late...just below Lange for me now, which is my number one.
How exactly is the Moser double crested cote de geneve different than a standard applied cote de geneve?
Tim what was that blue bugger on the caseback of the speedy? That was a strange thing to see.
Absolutely right as always - the green Daytona is THE one to have if you like these things, both from an aesthetic perspective and in value accretion terms. At the other end of the scale on both, of course, is the Panerai - should be nicknamed the 'down the Pan' erai.
It seems to me that the FP Journe RM-036 had a malfunction...
Maitres du Temp Chapter 3 is my favorite watch on the table
Chamfer is a straight beveled side, a smooth round side is called a fillet.
Holy Moser.
Hard to keep track of all the talent, today. Strong table.
It would be a challenge for me to choose a favorite from this group. If pressed, I'd narrow my choices to the Repetition, the Bulgari, and perhaps the Patek.
Best,
Tim
Great way to start a Wednesday morning! Literally nothing bad on the table, everything deserves a positive comment (almost) but two thoughts come to mind; if I had an A Lange, I think I'd wear it upside down, and that Cellini Prince is the classiest Rolex I've seen. Like you I love Reversos but this guy is just perfect (unless I take up polo ).
I love the way you pick them.
Another fantastic show!
The Laurent ferrier is a beauty!
It's becoming an underrated brand. I get the sense that LF came out strong nine years ago, but it's stumbled a bit as a brand -- not as products. There has been some backlash against the brand for early association with the Hodinkee hype machine. While I'm not a fan of Hodinkee, LF was a new brand taking publicity any way it could get it, and anyone could (or should) understand that.
Best,
Tim
Amazing F.P. Journe.
Top shelf. Rare bird
Great show! Some real heat this morning!
Thanks! I worry constantly about the energy of my presentation, so this feedback means more than you might think.
Best,
Tim
Amazing show as usual Tim :) We missed the Monday show, two weeks now, hopefully, next Monday you and the crew will be back :)
What do you think the next Basel world/SIHH 2020 suprise would be?
I really love that Maitres du Temps Ch. 3, that is what I call a piece unique 👍👍
I plan to be back in action on Monday. If pressed on a Basel surprise for next year, I suspect we'll see a new Patek chronograph or perpetual calendar chronograph, and either the Sub or the Daytona will be redesigned.
Best,
Tim
Thanks Tim
Thank you, Toti! I'm fortunate to be able to do this for a living, and the inventory shows remain a highlight of my week.
Best,
Tim
Great watches!!!
Love love love that Vacheron Overseas 😍
VC's Overseas III line is the best be in haut-de-gamme full-bracelet sports watches. It almost seems like cheating to buy one of these used for less than MSRP while people are paying twice retail or used 5711s.
Best,
Tim
That moser is unreal
Isn't that thing cool? Aside from the clever complication and distinctive finish, this watch is refreshing because it's so compact and easy to wear. It seems as though many independent brand watches (e.g., De Bethune Greubel, HYT, etc.) are huge: not the Moser.
Best,
Tim
Darling of the show.
Gorgeous watch! But if one buys an HM&C then they simply have to get one with one of their beautiful fumé dials!
Tim, why do we see chatons with 2 as well as 3 screws? (I am referring to the Lange1 shown)
Style and expense. 2 is cheaper, and it may be that the designers were looking at different vintage calibers when planning these watches.
Best,
Tim
WatchBox Reviews thank you for your reply Tim.
Very nice 👍🏾
I hope we will see decent minute repeaters entering the sub 20k market at some point, that journe was a highlight
A few Blancpain automatic minute repeaters from the early to mid-90s are falling to that range, and they're gorgeous.
Best,
Tim
@@the1916companywatchreviews Thats phenomenal, I had a look and you have sparked my interest. I couldnt find any figures of servicing costs for the blancpain minute repeater, do you have an estimate?
The Oris is amazing value for money
We call the "Golden Hulk" the MONEY DIAL - a term we picked up from the Asian demographic. Sadly my AD just sent TWO to the same Chinese broker in a 30 day period. They did this even after having been told by our Rolex rep that he would only be receiving 3 for the West Coast! They didn't care about my clients that had special ordered (paid) for it the year before. They told me to tell these clients they could cancel their order if they were tired of waiting. What this AD does with the hot Rolexes (SS, new Basel pieces, money dial) is bundle them with old inventory they are having trouble moving and sells them to Chinese brokers, "Take these omegas and IWCs or a Roger Dubuis and you can have your pick of SS Rolexes." - Hello China!
I no longer work there, it was hard to watch and keep quiet.
That Tintin is honestly my grail watch
The color sets this one apart from other Moonwatches. I'm not a particular fan of the Speedy Pro, but if I were to buy one, it would be this or a sapphire sandwich.
Best,
Tim
I am gonna get one of this giveaway from The watch box one day. I believe I can. Ahhh... still can't get enough of A Lange... always make my day end so much sweeter.... Damn they are gorgeous!!!! A German word? SUPER!!!
Thank you for supporting my work! I'll be back with another inventory showcase this Sunday morning, so stay tuned.
Best,
Tim
Wakey Wakey! Marvel needs to get Bruce Banner to wear that Golden Hulk!
They certainly have the money to make it happen! This dial on a steel Daytona would aggravate heart conditions and destroy marriages. I'm holding out hope that Rolex considers this move for the next generation of the Daytona.
Best,
Tim
i think that gold daytona has just blown up and prices have skyrocketed...
It's being discussed more, but we're not quite to the point of people paying twice retail a la 116500.
Best,
Tim
@@the1916companywatchreviews Nonetheless $48-50K is a lot of green!
@@the1916companywatchreviews John Mayer had a music video highlighting it, so the desire blew up.
That new Explorer II is no match for the 16570. My goodness, the older model looks so much better...
Absolutely.
Yes really right!
Great show as always. What happened to watches tonight ? Is it cancelled?
It amazes me how watches that just go 'ding , ding , ding, etc are so valuable. Not my be all and end all complication.
They're hard to mass produce. Perpetual calendars, split-second chronographs, and tourbillon mechanisms have been industrialized and serialized for large audiences, but true minute repeaters (as opposed to quarter or five-minute repeaters) remain artisanal products.
Best,
Tim
Amaze balls!
Dont pay me too much mind because I'm having a very controversial outburst here concerning your comparison between the fifty fathoms and the submariner: I feel like the submariner decided at some point that its technical enough to not need to be classically beautiful anymore, which created the fashion of very mech and robotic looking diving watches. The fifty fathoms however was designed before that wave to retain the blend of artistry and technology, which the watch industry is known for. This makes the fifty fathoms look retro and almost strampunk in its league nowadays. In my opinion though, the fifty fathoms' is the true legitimate "high horology" credible dive watch design which doesn't just use the "because its technical" line as an excuse to look like a tin can. Sorry for offending everyone!
Reveille reveille - all hands heave out of your racks!
Wow, I remember those days in boot camp! Some memories are best left to the past...
Best,
Tim
Good morning Tim! Great show. Just the thing to get up to when the MBA program one is in is grueling and makes one sleep like the dead
Are you studying for your MBA? I'm thinking of heading back to school in pursuit of a JD, so I might follow your lead.
Best,
Tim
WatchBox Reviews indeed I am Tim. I’m considering the JD after it to have that doctorate degree as well, but that is all it is right now, just a consideration.
IDGuy did a great design review, not a normal watch review for the uninitiated, of the Bulgari. Everyone should see his work!
Patek Calatrava Pilot looks like a Zenith Pilot, only not as nice and 5 times the price!
It doesn't feel or look that way in person. Certain qualities don't translate on a RUclips compression.
Best,
Tim
Good job Mosso, even though its Thursday. 😂😂😂😂
Please just take the sunglasses off of your head. Great watches though!
Please. Just one show without Rowlecks.
That's one long arse advert, salesman trying to convince you every watch is a must buy going out of stock, " handful made", exclusive, etc yawn yawn , hence why ur on you tube advertising in stock watches!!
How can you take these guys seriously? They are just trying to push product lol
People buy watches. Now you know.
Best,
Tim
