    Luxury watches from Rolex, Omega, Patek Philippe, Tudor, and Audemars Piguet feature on today’s curated luxury watch safari spectacle! Sports watches, dress watches, chronographs, high complications, and simple watches animate today’s presentation for watch buyers, watch collectors, and watch enthusiasts!
    Rolex watches always anchor the “Weekend Watches” video lineup, and today’s episode is no exception.
    The Rolex Daytona in stainless steel and ceramic proves equal to its legendary reputation; this chronograph has incredible wrist presence. The GMT-Master II or Rolex “Pepsi” GMT hit the airline scene in 1954 as a pilot’s watch for Pan Am aviators; today, our white gold Rolex GMT offers a tantalizing prospect for collectors of significant and discontinued Rolex models. And for those who prefer a sports-casual aesthetic, the rose gold ceramic-bezel Rolex Yacht-Master “Oysterflex” combines rich Everose 18-karat alloy with an Oysterflex strap (rubber-coated bracelet).
    Patek Philippe watches represent the ultimate aspirational purchase for many watch buyers, and Tim selected a few of his favorites for this episode. A one-year Patek Philippe 5960/1A-010 ebony dial, stainless steel, full-bracelet annual calendar flyback chronograph stuns the host himself. The Patek Philippe 5235G Regulator is a handsome white gold annual calendar that Tim has declared as his inevitable “first Patek Philippe.” A yellow gold cloisonné enamel dial Patek Philippe 5231J Calatrava world time is ideal for travelers who fly first class. Finally, the Patek Philippe Aquanaut Travel Time is ideal for world wanderers who need to keep track of far flung business partners, family, and friends.
    Only one Omega watch appears on this program, but it is a great one; the Omega Speemaster Moonwatch Dark Side of The Moon. When launched at Baselworld 2013, this 44.25mm black ceramic chronograph created a sensation. Today, the landmark Speedmaster Dark Side remains a stunning statement of uncompromised design vision and execution. Its automatic caliber 9300 co-axial chronometer movement remains a world-class power plant and a point of reference for rival watchmakers.
    Additional luxury watches from A. Lange & Sohne, De Bethune, Panerai, Longines, Jaeger LeCoultre, Tudor, and Vacheron Constantin assure an unrivaled window-shopping experience for collectors of all luxury watch brands and styles!

      The Aquanaut TT is a special watch. Its utility is hard to match, and I appreciate that Patek was able to increase the capability of the core Aquanaut platform without adding to the size.

      Thanks for watching, Joseph! I love Vacheron and Lange, so I strive to feature at least one of each on the show. For my money, those are among the best buys in preowned watches and offer more for your money than equivalent used Journe or Patek models.

    Great show Tim, the Patek that you closed the show on with that bracelet may be my all time favorite PP, it's just a beautiful eye catching watch that really has a distinct look of it's own, the model stands out from any other from the brand, what a beauty ⌚

  • @DavidDatura

    I like the new Winter trees background...soothing 🙂 Anyway, that Offshore was actually quite nice. Also like the subtle styling and accuracy of the JLC platinum tourbillon. And I prefer this green dialed steel Panerai to the bronze version, with a handsome in-house movement under that display back too.

    • @the1916companywatchreviews
      @the1916companywatchreviews  4 года назад +1

      That JLC is a beast. I still love the brand, so I try to highlight its best on a regular basis. As for the 999, it's one of the few Panerai models that I'd like to own. The brand isn't for me, but certain models are appealing. That's how I feel about quite a few brands.

    I have to say the De Bethune DB25 Starry Sky DB25L and the Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre A Quantieme Lunaire are awesome both in their own way.

  • @davidjb3671

    Tim, what is the advantage (if any) of using soldered/welded lugs vs forging, machining, casting (or some combination of those)? It clearly started with modifying pocket watches, but why do it now?
    Perhaps you could discuss this in a future talk. Cheers

    • @davidjb3671
      @davidjb3671 4 года назад +2

      PS - After further thought I guess maybe I can answer my own question in that it allows you to create lugs that look visibly separate from the case ("stepped out" as you say) as a stylistic point. And thinking about it that might be almost impossible for a forging or casting, and actually more expensive and time-consuming by machining. Interesting topic though...

    • @the1916companywatchreviews
      @the1916companywatchreviews  4 года назад +1

      That's correct. Creating lugs that read as separate is hard to do without mechanically assembling the parts and fixing them with screws. Incidentally, that's how Lange assembles its lugs, and it's a step behind Patek, JLC, and Vacheron products with true welded lug construction.

    32:07 If it was initially a single time zone watch then the bezel would be calculating a second time zone, not a third, correct? I think that's what you meant because then you go on to say how, with the GMT-Master II, the 24-hour hand is the second time zone and now you can use the bezel to calculate a third time zone. I have several GMTs. I love them and their history, so I want to ensure I'm understanding correctly.

    The PP 5960: There seems to be quite a difference in market price between the black dial and the white one - the black almost 50% pricier than the white. How come? Different production years? Just popularity? I think both of them look good; the white pops out while the black could pass as a dressy accessory. This from a guy who 'hates' chronographs. Maybe Datograph could meddle me into the game.

      Even the best independents are questionable in the long term. What happens to all the Kari and Akrivia pieces 30 years down the line? They have quite a few bespoke parts of their own in each case. DB is on a better financial footing than in the past, so survival isn't a concern for now.
