Rolex, Patek Philippe, IWC, and other top luxury watch brands take over RUclips with “Wake Up with Watches” and host Tim Mosso.
As usual Rolex watches take center stage. A white gold Rolex Daytona appears in a rare configuration with a full alligator leather strap, deployant clasp, and sunburst metallic anthracite dial with radially arrayed Arabic numerals. The immortal Rolex Datejust likewise appears in an unconventional combination of two-tone steel and yellow gold, a domed gold bezel, a roulette date, and a Rolex Oyster bracelet. A Rolex Submariner “Hulk” in black PVD and a Rolex Explorer 36mm also are on the table.
Two exceptional Patek Philippe perpetual calendar chronographs showcase two generations of the Geneva watch giant’s legendary compound complication. A third series 3970R in rose gold sports its trim 36.3mm case and vaunted Lemania 2310-based Patek Philippe CH 27-70 chronograph movement with classical elegance. The imposing 41mm platinum 2018 Patek Philippe 5270P strikes a more commanding stance on the wrist, and this watch’s celebrated salmon dial in rose gold tones illustrates why many watch buyers consider the 5270P to be the most desirable of this model line.
Audemars Piguet makes a cameo in the form of a rare full-bracelet stainless steel Royal Oak Dual Time. This 39mm AP Royal Oak exhibits the dial revisions of the 2016 model year on its blue galvanized Grande Tapisserie dial. Watch collectors who travel often will find that the Jaeger-LeCoultre-powered Royal Oak Dual Time is both iconic and an indispensable business class companion.
IWC of Schaffhausen quietly ranks among Tim’s favorite watch brands, and he has selected several exceptional and uncommon models to illustrate his passion.
The Plexiglas-capped IWC Portuguese Automatic 2000 is a 42mm platinum limited edition of 250 pieces that launched in the year 2000; IWC reference “5000” sports the first version of the now legendary IWC 7-day automatic caliber that became the 50000, 51000, and 52000 in subsequent revisions. As an IWC watch purists, Tim celebrates the 1985 Da Vinci of designer Hanno Burtscher and watchmaker Kurt Klaus; this famed hinge-lug perpetual calendar chronograph makes an appearance in white gold.
Additional love for IWC watchmaking arrives courtesy of a 46mm Portofino Hand Wound Eight Days with steel case and blue dial. The 2019 IWC Pilot’s Watch Bronze for The Rake and Revolution magazine impresses with perfect proportioning, a no-date military green dial, and a limited edition NATO strap cut from eighteenth century Russian Reindeer hide by George Cleverly of Britain.

I don't say this enough: Thank you, Watchbox. It's hard enough just to take a decent photo of one watch. But here we are seeing one watch after another, paired with the knowledge to appreciate the watches better.

That IWC pilot's watch is by far the most interesting and attractive on the table. I absolutely love that.

My two favorites this time around were the yellow gold cased Moser and the bronze IWC featured in the thumbnail.

You didn’t include the blacked out Rolex Hulk!
It sticks out like a saw thumb on the desk, I would have loved to have seen it

Good morning from the Old Pueblo. As always a worthy selection from a number of great houses. Your shows have really opened my eyes to a number of pieces from makers I don't really care for. Good to see IWC get some love as well as GO, that regulator is really special, probably my fav of the show although the little gold reverso is amazing. That JLC can get all that mechanism and sound into such a small package is truly amazing.
Curious about the bund straps, they seem to be from the same maker. I always liked them for everyday wear.
    See you next time.
    Cheers

That George Cleverley strap is available on the corporate site for £350, although in a bit different design but same rare “Russian” leather.
Not cheap. But cheaper than £4200 they want for that IWC watch

I'd probably be the only one who dislike that salmon dial on the 5270, maybe I should look at it in person but in video it looks too dark. The 3970, tho, it's just perfect.
I love how the Perpetual Moser looks so simple, less is more sometimes right?

I would love to see salmon dials become the new blue; beautiful!
Ha ha, leave it up to Alain Silberstein to come up with that! There’s a name you don’t seem to mention all that often. I still remember his leather cases, fur straps, and love-hate colors.
Wow, what a history behind the leather strap of that bronze IWC; amazing! It’s nearly the age of my favorite restaurant in the world (1743).

I absolutely LOVE the 3970. If I had my pick (not that I'll ever be able to afford one) I'd probably go with a white metal, but the rose gold looks amazing as well.

In my limited understanding of money and those who have it on earth, it appear to me that with a record number of millionaires and billionaires on the planet, still, the number of people who can afford some of the watches I've seen here appear to be limited to Oil Barons and All-Star Players of the National Basketball Association. I'm not sure that members of the Royal families can all afford these watches. Why is it that my new Tudor Pelagos stopped working on my wrist within the month, when my Grand Seiko Snowflake keeps on ticking and seems to keep showing the same time on my wrist as does on the time clock on my computer?
